I'm working on a setting based on America, probably taking inspiration from the late 19th century.

-Northeast (Maine, NH, Vermont, etc)
>Wood Elves, primarily, with indecipherable accents.
>Famous Human wizard living in a dark tower.
-East Coast (Boston, NYC, Philly, DC)
>High Elves with thick accents.
>"HEY, I'M CASTIN' HERE"
-South/Deep South (Virginia to Arkansas, minus Florida)
>Plantation fueled Half-Elves.
>Enslaved goblinoids
-Appalachia (Banjos)
>Redneck Firbolgs and stray humans/wood elves.
>Some feral gnome types up north.
>Very rare to run into somebody, when you do they are often clan-like and excessively loyal to their small family.
-Florida
>Orcs
>There was a picture in the 3.5 Eberron book of an Orc on stilts in a swamp. This is what I want.
-Gulf Coast
>Goblins and other goblinoids that have escaped slavery
>Lead by the intelligent Frondrek Dagless, self-educated and freed hobgoblin
-Midwest (Crops and flat. You know)
>Doughy faced kind humans
>Some large cities, nothing to rival the Elves
>Industrious traders and farmers
-Rust Belt (Cleveland, Pittsburgh, anything on Eerie)
>Bitter gnomes
-Great Lakes North
>Dwarves with Minnesota accents
>"Quiet folk here, ya know. Best hot dish in the tri-parish, ya sure you betcha"
-Texas (Texas)
>Goliaths on dinosaurs
>Everything is bigger in Texas
-Great Plains (Flyover States)
>BLAND
>HUMAN
>Pushing westward per manifest prophecy
-Southwest (West Texas, NM, Arizona)
>Land of while magic and enchantments
>Dragonborn native to the area have never been pushed out
>Humans starting to encroach
-Out West (Utah, Nevada, Montana)
>Halflings doing the Longmire thing
>Conflict with nearby humans over what Humans claim is promisedl and
>Tiny horses
-West Coast (Seattle, Portland, Rain)
>Drow
-SoCal
>Half-Orcs and some abolitionist humans from near Ohio
>Freshly settled, somehow already kinda surfer-dude.
>Escaped persecution to start a new land.
>"Dude, check out this axe! Totally stole it from a lich, man."

Halflings control a massive land locked Kingdom?

Halflings never struck me as Empire builders. Maybe I cleave to close to the English country folk Tolkien stereotype.
>>
Why are the orcs and half-orcs thousands of miles apart?
>>
>>50933235
You picked the most heavily forested part of the entire country and filled it with DROW and instead put wood elves on the opposite side of the country where it's nothing but hills and suburbs and cities and nothing resembling a proper forest except the Jersey Barrens?
>>
>Ohio
>not a toxic undead wasteland
>>
>>50933398
Picture them more as small town pioneers, isolated and far separated.
>>
>>50933434
If OP is going anywhere near the Pine Barrens with his party, they're gonna have a bad time.
>>
>>50933235
Elves/half-elves should really have more of a grip on the old south.
All of that antebellum pride and honorable superiority complex really suits them.
>>
>>50933434
Never been to those parts. I was trying to make the Elves have thick enough accents that it's basically another language so I put them up north.
>>
>>50933442
Eerie is. Undead , gnomes with failed experiments, rusted Dwarven industry. Muls.
>>
>>50933235
What's in Canada then?
>>
>>50933500
This is great. Noted. I figured high elves would be more of Eastern elites.

Maybe the huge metro areas are Tiefling kingdoms or something demonically influenced.

is there a fantasy setting with legit (native- or otherwise) american folklore races and stuff in it? would like to escape elves and dwarves and halflings desu
>>
>>50933742
>>american setting
>>european fantasy races
>>not pukwudgies, sasquatches, fastachee, and wendigo

that's probably because the concept of "america" came from europeans, was built and settled by europeans, and became a world power mainly because of european-descended people
>>
>Drow
>Not in detroit
>One job OP
>>
>>50933742
Closest would be Deadlands, which is more about the Wild West with spooky shit than fantasy shit. So the Wendigos, Sasquatches and Pukwudgies would fuck your shit up.

Good news is no elves or goblins (but yes to gremlins)
>>
>>50933784
I'm using this. Revised map is incoming.
>>
>>50933768
i like the tone of american folklore a lot more than the european equivalents though. like that movie the vvitch that came out recently, where it's disjointed settlements where society is broken into far-between areas and the wilderness is deadly. i love idea of an unsettled fantasy land where shit like the roanoke colony is a fact of life.

>>50933798
always thought weird west stuff was kinda neat, but i haven't really ever had a huge interest in western settings. i really kinda prefer the pacific northwestern cryptids, the lousiana ghosts and voodoo, and the new mexican aliens a lot more.

I made some revisions.Keep the suggestions coming.

The Mega-Metropolitan Zone from DC to Boston is going to be demonically influenced, causing a problem for nearby elves. Its corruption can be felt in the Midwest and caused the fall of Gnomish society, literally, into the Underdark. The ensuing panic caused more religious Humans to head west following a prophet or prophets saying that the west shall be theirs, including the Southwest. As we wait, the Jersey Devil grows in power.

I kinda like the idea of antebellum Elves fighting a holy war against demons and an ethical war for slavery and anti-race mixing.

Halflings are now superstitious pioneer settlers that keep having mysterious kidnappings and whatnot from various American supernatural monsters. Plenty of room for old timey horror.

I need more for the Pacific Northwest though.
>>
>>50934179
This is a goldmine.
>>
>>50934198
The Pacific Northwest is full of mountains and woodlands, as well as being one of the last bits of mainland America to be colonized or settled. There are really only two cities worth anything in the Pacific Northwest, and the rest is mostly worthless. Also hipsters, lots and lots of hipsters.
>>
>>50934223
Half-Elves are the hipsters, hippies, punks, and general malcontents that live in the Pacific Northwest. They had to abandon their homelands because neither humans or elves really wanted them. They're theoretically superior to both, having long lives but also being able to grow beards, but they tend to just live in their own little foggy hugbox.

Give Texas back its rightful clay. I don't know why in every setting that has it independent they shrink it when that is likely the opposite of what would happen. Many of its surrounding states have sworn to succeed with Texas. At least give back the panhandle.

The wood elves can be real Hatfield and McCoy types with generations long grudges longer than any nation state.

Dwarves are typical miners, structured into companies that they devote their lives to.

Ain't no miscegenation here, son.

You know what we're gonna do? Skeletons. Why? Because the South will rise again.

We are going to have plantations with bone white columns, with slaves who will spend all day making bone meal, the cash crop of the skeleton plantation system. You know how we're going to make that bone meal, right? We're going to have our slaves have their arms and legs chopped off. And then you know what we're gonna do? We're gonna give them potions to grow them back.

Yep. That's right. Living non-skeleton slaves will spend their entire lives having limbs amputated then forcibly regrown so we can chop them off again. And we're gonna make them grind the bone meal out of their own limbs.

The Confederacy of Skeletal States.

In spooky lands where I was born, early on one frost morn, look away, look away, look away.

It's a brand new day, people! Let's get back to work!

I've made a few updates and due to the length of the backstory I've got for each region, I'm gonna have to break it into a couple posts.

That said, here's the revised map. I've added a little more detail on the west coast and filled in a couple more things. Still not sure how I got wood elves on the west coast but whatever.

For those of you complaining about the map, that won't change until I get things nailed down a little bit more.

For those of you Texans complaining that Texas is too small, something something compensation.

The next post will start to go over changes I've made.
>>
>>50942691
Let's start with the most important event that has occurred in Americanus' history

-East Coast (DC, Boston, NJ, NYC area)
>For hundreds of years, goblins had total control over this land and in it they built an impressive society.
>Cities that rose defiantly against the sky, industry chugging away along the coast, trade flowing freely.
>Goblins are always known to be loud, boisterous and shifty.
>238 years ago, a portal to the Abyss was opened. Nobody knows how or why, but it tore a pit deep into the center of the Metrogoblitan area.
>Demons poured out of the rift, and the cities were abandoned. Most Goblins made it south, where they met an unkind fate with their neighboring High Elves.
>Still the swirling malevolent maelstrom spins above the ruins of the once great Goblin cities, spitting out fresh evil for the nearby Americanians.
>>
>>50942691
Let's move down south some

-Deep South
>The Elves settled here millennia ago, creating a very structured hierarchy. Back then they were one people and were proud of their lack of division. This hierarchy is something they stick to, something they are proud of like nothing else.
>Their pride was tarnished by the industry loving cretins to the northeast. And when the rotten yanks were laid low, some of the southern Elves beamed with pride at their new status.
>The south had risen to prominence 238 years ago. With an influx of higher, clever population in the form of Goblinoids, the Elves were able to nearly triple their output. The landed gentry profit greatly and huge differences start to appear between them and their poorer Wood Elf cousins.
>Wood Elves start to be driven to the hills while the High Elves turn their attention to the new threat where they once had rivals.
>An ongoing holy war ensues and the resources it takes to fight a perpetual hellhole demolished the High Elven economy for most people in the region. In order to fill the gaps, the High Elven gentry turned to their new wards.
>In order to pay their debts of protection to the Elves, Goblins were now being conscripted into labor.
>After the war and the economy stabilized, this conscription continued onward. Currently, the majority of the Goblin population lives in slavery under than hands of nigh-immortal masters.
>This hatred of race-dilution and need for stable labor supplies has made the High Elves unbelievably intolerant of anything green or furry. They have to fight against the ethical "nonsense" spewed from humans to the north saying that perpetual enslavement is not Americanian.

(Goblinoid perspective)
>For 8 generations we have worked for the same master
>Perhaps he is a devil, too, he will not die.
>My family has made it safe to the coast. The elves will not go near the coast. I do not know why.
>I miss them.
>>
>>50942691
>Still not sure how I got wood elves on the west coast but whatever.

Fortuitously I can come up with backstories at the drop of a hat. Here's a suggestion:

The elven lands of East Coast were much larger millennia ago, before humans and orcs, once stretching across nearly the entire continent east of the Mississippi, all of it deep, ceaseless greenwood.

But the elves were also correspondingly more arrogant and prideful. During this time the idea of the "purity of the elven race" came into vogue, particularly in what would eventually become Dixie. This went hand-in-hand with advances in understanding of magic. The elven kingdoms were gradually becoming magocracies, building huge edifices to their own glory, eventually reaching the point of tearing down the forests in Dixie in order to construct monoliths and leylines - and countless statues to their own power.

The most-remembered fallout of this was several of the noble houses turning to demonic pacts to increase their power even further, eventually transforming them into drow. However, a number of elves, from across the spectrum of elvish culture (including some nobles) but mostly the lower classes, instead rejected this turn to elvish superiority over nature and high magic. Arrogant in their own way still, they believed that the purity of the elven race was found in the past, not the future; their ancestors, roaming the woodlands as hunter-gatherers.

Thus, over time, did the wood elves evolve, in conclaves far from the influence of the high elves and dark elves. The largest concentration in the days of yore could be found in Maine, but some of the wood elves went even further afield, seeking pristine new forests untouched by high or dark magic. These elves eventually found their way to Cascadia, where they remain to this day.

-The Northeast
>Since the maelstrom opened the Gnomes of the nearby Northeast have tried to avoid getting within 100 miles of the spiral of evil
>For the most part staying in the colder Northern regions have permitted them some safety, though they occasionally have to push back incursions
>Some goblins have made it here and are welcome. Naturally, being able to see eye-to-eye with their hosts has given them a little more freedom than their southern counterparts.
>The gnomes focus nearly entirely on their industry, known for shipbuilding and navigation, they are the naval power of the east coast.
>From the Appalachians, some Half-elves have settled. Having been rejected by even their Wood elf parents, they have nothing to do but live in the forests and facilitate the growing industry. Many have turned to forestry to provide materials to the local economy.
>Naturally, being this close to an evil influence also increases the chances of a tainted birth. Many Tieflings are born here and remain here, often alone in the cold hills. Some take gnomish ships to far away lands.

Hawaii could be Genasi, especially with the heavy elemental emphasis in Polynesian folklore. A caste-based system based on the elements. Despite the islands being small and so far from the mainland, the elemental harmony of the islands make them high in valuable rare magical resources, causing a large amount of outsiders to try and come to Hawaii hoping to get rich, sort of like a gold rush.

-Appalachia
>Applachia is a mixture of foothills, forests and deep mining.
>From the frozen north above Americanus, Dwarves came to the bountiful mines. As usual, they brought with them their strict and ordered society, but without the typical noble leadership.
>This has lead to deep mining companies that rule whole swaths of land and each dwarf a free man within it.
>Whole generations work in the mines for the same company, buying goods from the company stores and living in houses bought from the company.
>Many of them are free in law alone, but live in permanent debt to their employers, debt that will continue to be passed down from generation to generation
>They find magical stones beneath the surface, some emanating with evil intent. Perhaps this is what generated the maelstrom to the east?

>Wood Elves descend from the poorer High elves in the land of Pixie.
>Spurned by their cousins, they moved into the wooded highlands of Appalachia
>Living in very loyal and large clans, they are fairly isolated from any other community.
>Lifelong grudges form between the clans sometimes, causing all out "war" between families.
>They're rednecks.

Alaska implies there's a Canada, which itself is a whole other beast, so it would be easy to make it all out together as one huge unexplored region. This massive region is home to many races of beastmen, varying depending on where they're from. The great plains are home to Bison-folk/Minotaur, the great mountains are home to Cougar-folk/Tabaxi, the great forests are home to Bear-folk, the coastal regions far to the east and west are home to eagle-folk/Aarakocra, and the far north is home to a mysterious race shrouded in mystery since I can't think of an animal. Sasquatch people are rumored to exist in the great forests of the west. These races form massive tribes, full out native american fantasy. They basically BTFO anyone who tries to expand into the north, and have a lot of problems with this especially since the massive amounts of untapped resources that are there.

>Orcish homeland
>Pretty much one giant swamp except to the South.

The Florida Keys and Puerto Rico could be this massive system of Mangroves and Coral, both large enough to hold entire cities at times, intertwining around the massive roots and branches of the mangrove trees, and throughout the giant reefs.
>>
>>50943377
That could work in both directions.

To the north it becomes a frigid untamed wilderness, eventually reaching massive glaciers that are impassible, with not much of anything anywhere, meaning players don't have a reason to go there. Mexico/the south is searing desert and festering jungles, eventually becoming to impassible, sinking into the shifting sands, becoming lost in massive sandstorms, getting eaten alive by massive insects in the jungles, or just everything being able to kill you easily, plus crazy natives who murder anyone who enters their lands.

>Land of the free Goblin.
>This isn't so much a region of its own as it is a no-man's-land.
>Elves will not come here for whatever reason, but it is covered in nearly entirely swamps and thick, thorny forests.
>The freed or escaped Goblins run here to survive and live in freedom again, many families are split apart to try to make it back to a free land.
>Their leader, Frodrak Dagless, a self-educated former slave pushes for goblin rights and tries to send message for support further north to the Midwestern Humans who support abolition
>Because they control the Mississippi Delta they control the trade coming out of the river and through to the East Coast.
>Heavy trade and proximity to Orcish creole language has created another thick dialect here, mixing Gnomish and Goblin and Elven and everything into one mishmash.
>>
>>50943286
A thing that isn't often considered about the orcish race is that they are powerful long-distance-swimmers for creatures with feet instead of fins, simply due to their race's tendency towards strength and endurance. With many of the islands of the Caribbean being within sight of one another and the Americanian mainland, and with the orcish tendency to do crazy things simply to show off their physical prowess, it should then come as little surprise that orcs make up the main population of most of the Caribbean Islands.

One island is called MIp Rut Mutlha'taH in the Orcish tongue; in Goblinoid, this is Pwertoreeko. Humans usually refer to it as Rich Port. The fourth-largest island in the Caribbean, it has for centuries been ruled by a single clan of orcs, sparing it from the constant infighting between social classes on Cuba, tribes on Hispaniola; as well as avoiding the kraken enslavement that happened to the orcs on Jamaica. With good weather, plentiful food, and vast fields of sugar and tobacco, the Richport orcs see themselves as respectable and civilized, becoming a local mercantile power, with many ships stopping off at Richport for supplies or to buy goods coming up from South America.

Of late, the story of the kingdom of Richport has taken a bit of an unusual twist. Several generations ago, a merfolk prince named Arién, growing tired of life beneath the waves and wanting to know more about the surface world, followed a South American ship QaH J'jOn, the capital of Richport. There he laid eyes upon the (to him) beautiful orcish princess Kolat, and fell instantly in love.

(Arién was used to looking at fish all day, it's understandable that its standards were a little different from surface ones).

Through a harrowing series of events involving a sea hag, Arién had himself transformed into a handsome orc, and was able to win over Kolat's heart, even after he was revealed to truly be a merfolk prince. The two were wed, and lived happily ever after

-The Rust Belt

>When the maelstrom opened up it shook Americanus to its core. Literally.
>This activity caused the majority of the lake-faring gnomes to fall into a deep crevasse along their once great canals.
>Now a massive portal to the Underdark awaits there
>Gnomish society has fallen. Many have taken to hiding in the sides of the crevasse, Hopi Indian style.
>Many are embittered by the loss of such a massive part of their trade network and are trying to build it back up.
>Suspicious of outsiders, and occasionally having to fight off Drow skirmishers that come from the deep.
>Frequently lash out at Wood Elves because they are mistaken for their Drow cousins.
>>
>>50943458
Yes, by the way, I'm using Klingon for Orcish, and badly-spelled Spanish for goblin. Feel free to change either

Side note, if the orcs really do span the Caribbean, they are potentially fucking loaded, simply due to sugar and tobacco alongside their use as a stopping-off point for merchant ships from South America. Jamaica was more valuable to the British Empire than all thirteen original colonies COMBINED

Surprisingly, the same can be said of Kolat and Arién's many...many...MANY children (pity and envy Arién). Though Arién remained an orc for the rest of his days, some part of his merfolk nature did breed into his children, who were often born with strong swimming ability and, if not true amphibiousness, then at least the ability to remain underwater for lengths of time that were positively crocodile-like.

Arién did not sever all ties with his homewater, either. The undersea Kingdom of Meropis had little desire to rule over a surface nation, but with Arién's marriage to Kolat, that happened anyway. For the most part, Richport remains entirely autonomous from the Meropean court; it does, however, benefit from being the only nation in the Caribbean to actively and regularly trade with the merfolk, exchanging surface goods for undersea treasures and resources that surfacers simply lacked access to before the marriage. Richport has grown only richer since then.

Sometimes, when the stars align, a screaming tower can be seen swiftly rising from the Orcish homelands. These towers are visible, for the brief time that they last, from hundreds of miles away. While everyone else debates what these towers are, and what their purpose is, they continue to happen. Every once in a while, an Orc speaking in a heavy Creole accent can be found wandering lost somewhere far from their home.

Somehow, against all odds, Orcs have found/built Kennedy Space Center, and are "sacrificing" Orcs to this technological God.

Being a Chicagoan this is actually pretty goddamn accurate...

>Shika isn't the oldest midwestern city, and it's far from the safest, (compared to the rest of the Midwest) but for many middlefolk, it's still simply called. "The City".
>far past it's prime with high turnover of folks (settling and leaving are both easy and cheap)
>Very diverse population, Humans, Halflings, Dwarves, Gnomes, and even some Wood Elves all call the city home
>infighting for sure, but because of the multitude of cultures, Shika's residents are (mostly) open-minded and friendly
>long time refuge for goblins and orcs too
>Still the central trading hub of the region because of the old infrastructure built over a century ago, however it is poorly maintained and will soon fall into ruin if not restored

>Despite an outward appearance of transparency and righteousness, corruption and nepotism run rampant through the ruling magocracy that govern the city. Their political influence can often dictate the surrounding villages and countryside as well.
>The magocracy is also known for it's pathetic squandering of the once overflowing coffers of Shika when it was at it's industrial peak
>The citizens are very frustrated with their seemingly incompetent rulers, but don't really know what to do about it

>The City is also known for it's vibrant music, and many of the land's greatest musicians hail from the seedy, dockside taverns, where they would sing of their trials and tribulations, but also of their will to persevere.

I don't know, I just kind of had a creative burp.

That's a nice idea.

You can also lift some more elements from the gothic / Weird West type of fantasy.

Maybe they keep the gifted goblins as magical slaves with their knowledge of 'hoodoo' , keeping them bound in chains purchased off the Southern Elves to limit their magic to only be able to cast on verbal permission from the master.

Every so often a goblin is inadvertently set free from his chains and causes a massacre.

The Central/ more metropolitan parts of Texas are more civil but the frontier could be a real hot bed for zealots and murderers, both on the side of the lizard men as the cowboys.

Have some rumors of a gigantic, even for orcish standards, baby faced hairless orc that poses as a judge and is capable of extreme violence.

One thing I definitely need is names for all these regions. Just calling Texas "Texas" isn't gonna fly.

-The Painted Lands
>Primarily NM and Arizona area
>Populated nearly entirely by dragonborn and lizardfolk
>Here there be dragons
>Dragon born are, naturally, descendants of the dragons that helped create the continent. Eternally grateful for the land that was made for them, they worship in an almost druidic way.
>Dragons themselves are ancient and rare, but can be seen in the deserts from NM all the way to Death Valley. This terrifies the new pioneers.
>Lizardfolk live to the east of the region, but pepper through the majority of the desert landscape.
>Dragonborn and Lizardfolk that are more agreeable to strangers have been hired as guides to move through their regions. Any that make it outside of the Southwest area are often in awe of the different landscapes.

>The Painted Lands themselves are full of wild magics. Some who come here leave with a touch of the arcane.
>Some say that spending 40 days in the region and drinking from the life giving cacti can turn you into a powerful sorceror.
>This rumor has caused many to lose their lives of thirst.

>A gnomish pioneer decided to set up shop somewhere on the border of Utah and the Painted Lands. Here has created a small workshop with clockwork golems.
>The golems are powered by the magic imbued sands of the area.
>Some halfling pioneers have seen the golems retrieving goods for their master, but haven't seen him for nearly two decades.

>The huge mountain range stretches from beyond Americanus and down to the deep deserts.
>These mountains hem in many travelers, except for the hearty halflings.
>Small towns dot the landscape, few and far between. These frontiersmen and pioneers struck out to make a new life for themselves, many after being displaced by zealot humans.
>Often shy and easily startled, the halflings tend to be a strong bunch. Skiddish at first they will quickly warm up to you, especially if you bring luxury items with you like cotton fabric or coffee.
>Many of the settlers are encountering strange beasts while they're out there. One even claims to have seen a huge man with a blue ox just chopping down trees in the northern forests.

>The northern forests also have sparse populations of humans and wood-elves. The wood-elves are the remnants of a once great empire of elves that turned into the Land of Pixie.
>These poor few have turned to animism and fishing to keep themselves alive, but live a much more refined life than their brethren to the east.
>The humans that live here are often former religions fanatics that have realized that, you know what, there's some crazy shit out there and maybe this is good enough.
>These groups, particularly the humans are plagued with attacks and mysterious burglaries. Odd sightings of monstrous creatures in lakes and streams or horned beasts wandering the forests.

>>
>>50945549
Pacific Northwest here. We have two real cities, portland and Seattle. Seattle developed as a waypoint going to the Klondike gold rush, Portland was a longing settlement. Washington and Oregon are both divided east from west by a mountain range, the west is developed, rainy, and lushly forested, the east is rural, made of plains and mountains until you get to Idaho, a land of mountains and enclaves. Other western towns exist, but they're kinda irrelevant to the nation at large. I'm from Washington, so I don't have much more to say about Oregon except that Seattle is significantly larger and better than Portland, and remains the most significant western port outside of California. Seattle and the northwest's recent economic growth has been propelled by Amazon's presence in town and the desires of a handful of once-Microsoft tech moguls. The western halves of both states are vastly more populous and wealthy than the east, and use this to push a very liberal agenda in terms of infrastructure and social development, but the eastern halves are too entrenched for standing conservative policies to really be touched. Northwest pop culture is stereotypically Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix, both from Seattle, and fightclub was written by a Portlander. Washington also has the Hanfort site, which contributed to the Manhattan project, and because the puget sound is deep and winding it's still full of nuclear submarines.

Yes, actually. It happened quite regularly with designer dogs. The pomapoos and whatnot. Breed two pomapoos together and you can potentially get something that's almost indistinguishable from a regular miniature poodle. That's why organizations like the AKC take pedigrees so seriously. Actually breeding for desired traits takes a lot of work. Mixing two disparate sets together doesn't get you a homogeneous set in genetics.

I mean historically IRL. When Texas initially became an independent territory, it included parts of what is today Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, a little of Kansas, all the way up to a little bit of south-central Wyoming.

All of the northern land IRL was ceded in order for Texas to be allowed to be admitted into the Union as a slave state. The parts that are now New Mexico were given to the U.S. government in exchange for debt relief. In a world where there is none of the weird geographic boundary/slavery issues that shaped the admission and boundaries of lot of American states, Texas would have probably kept much of that land.

The no-homogeneous-set thing is usually an advantage, because diverse genes are strong genes. For dogs, it's usually called hybrid vigor, but basically it just means that because the two genetic sources are so different, the offspring is less prone to genetic disorders and whatnot. Breeds that are very popular, like cocker spaniels bulldogs or labs, tend to have massive health problems especially if they're thoroughbred because the genetic pool is so small. Mutts from the local pound, on the other hand, tend to be pretty good physically.

So, realistically, in a fantasy setting the half-elves and half-orcs would be the best and brightest and would kick everybody's asses.

Just imagine a bunch of Mormon Halflings out in Utah.

Yeah, I prefer a mutt to a thoroughbred for that reason. That plus a lot of thoroughbred dogs, at least on the East Coast, ultimately come from the Amish, believe it or not. And the Amish...don't treat animals well.

So my thought on this is that we're not there yet. In one year time about the Manifest Prophets will have a full fledged leader and their followers will turn into something similar to the Nauvoo Legion.

I get the intention isn't to create an entire fantasy caricature of the world, but having America begs the question. What's in Canada and Mexico?

The Mormons believed the Garden of Eden to be in Missouri.

The Missourians really didn't like the Mormons, enough to make it legal to kill them on sight.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri_Executive_Order_44

Something like that could be what causes the split between the human factions, with the Manifest Prophecy humans salty about being denied their holy land of Missouri, but pushing out west instead as it's an easier fight to make than going against the other humans.

These territories would be incredibly massive for medieval peoples. Consider that the entire island of Britain is the size of one state in the entire union and it was at one time split between picts, gaels, saxons, jutes, etc.

I really think you'd do better to just pic one particular region of the US, like the Northeast and just split it up into subregions where individual societies of elves were living. It'd make for a much more diverse and interesting world.

Here's some inspiration from another guy who made hexcrawls of specific regions of the US:

Cali lifer here (Bay Area/Silicon Valley)

You should have enclaves of Western high elves in Cali's Bay Area, Seattle, and Portland. Those Elves still continuing on creating higher elvish tech while all the other elves just living normal lives similar (but a little different) to there east coast elves.

>High Elves with a tiny, tiny dash of Wood Elves vaguely nearby

I'm okay with this.

>-Northeast (Maine, NH, Vermont, etc)
>Wood Elves, primarily, with indecipherable accents.
>Famous Human wizard living in a dark tower.
>-East Coast (Boston, NYC, Philly, DC)
>High Elves with thick accents.
>"HEY, I'M CASTIN' HERE"
Your map shows all of Massachusetts to be wood elf territory, and as a resident let me assure you Boston is not high elven land. They are wood elves with trees made of brick and mortar.

>my area is half-elf

Check the updated maps.

You're goblins now. Well, were. Now it's Goblin ruins surrounded by demonic storm.

Which almost reaches the approximate filth that is Boston IRL.

I think there are some around the Cleveland area, considering it's now an eldritch underdark wasteland.
I would bet that the necromantic arts are popular there, if just that it's isolated away from adventurers and church hired hunters.

CA ex-pat here. SoCal should be twice as big, ending on the nub below the Bay Area.

Within the hypothetical borders, it's nearly unanimous but we live under the tyranny of urbanites who won't release us from their idiotic state regulations because we have a $14 billion annual tax-to-spending surplus.

We also have Jefferson Public Radio, which broadcasts in roughly that area, and T-Shirts and stickers as Souvenirs in a lot of places around then. Oh, and there was a movement and legislative push for it just slightly before WW2.

I won't pretend it's not parochial, because it kind of is, but it really is different in the 'Mythical State of Jefferson" as our radio station likes to put it. Just like everywhere else with our concerns of course, but we have the gift shop flags and t-shirts and hats and the fact some starry eyed dreamers tried to get it done before WW2. Oh, and the radio station.

Broadcasts out of Southern Oregon University.

And it is true that Southern Oregon and Northern California have far more in common with each other.

Like a lot of pan cultural and ecological areas stretching across state lines. A lot of Eastern Oregon is basically like Washington, Idaho, or Nevada.
