BatRep link still doesn't work sub-edition.

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where everyone needs some time to relax between the interstellar wars and endless subterfuge.

Semi-newfag here, looking to go from collecting to actually playing.

1) Are any of you fuckers in the southern new jersey area? Around Atlantic City?

2) What's the best point level I can play at with the following models?
> Aleph Starter Pack (3 DAKINI Tacbot w/ combi-rifle, 1 Deva w/ Combi-Rifle, 1 NAGA Hacker w/ Assault Hacking + Combi-Rifle, 1 Asura w/ Multi-Rifle)
> Steel Phalanx Starter Pack (3 Thorakitai w/ Combi-Rifle, Chain Rifle, and Light Rocket Launcher, 1 Agema Marksman w/ Missile Launcher, 1 Myrmidon Hacker w/ Assault Hacking + AP CCW, Eudoros)
> Phoenix
> Machaon
> Myrmidon Pack (Chain Rifle, AP CCW, Boarding Shotgun, Combi-Rifle)
> Authorized Bounty Hunter

Easily 300. Infinity is a mission heavy game so you need specialists.
>>
>>50883940
That's actually what I'm worried about. The shit in the ALEPH starter seems like isn't useful in Steel Phalanx, and vice versa, because of Impetuous or Frenzy or whatever the fuck it was. Meanwhile, I'm not sure I have enough specialists in Steel Phalanx to make a decent 300. What would you recommend for 300?

This is absolutely true. I have worked hard to make myself only minimally so, but that's simply how people are here.

As for calling LGS, the only ones I've been able to find locally are Aetherstorm Games (Whose owner exemplifies the spoiler above) and Nerdvana, which sells the rulebook but not the models and nobody plays.

Sorry for the late reply Anon. was busy an shit

Try this list on for size

Its steel Phalanx you'll be running the Myrmidons as your main fireteam, with Eudoros, therefore, the impetuous and frenzy will be cancelled.

The Thorakties with 360 degrees vision will act as both cheerleaders as well rear gaurd due to their 360 line of fire. Any rear assault should be halted.

The Pheonix and the Thorakties with rocket launchers are your heavy hitters. They provide firepower to take down big targets.

Last the engineer, Hacker and Machon are just specialist to use in any way possible if needed.

How to play this army is to use heavy smoke grenades and cover your advancement. There are several weaknesses to this army the main one is shock. But apart from that its a basic army. Invest in a greek hero to upgrade it
>>
>>50888201
That's a very unusual grouping for the two combat groups. I thought you wanted as many as possible in one group, and everyone else adds in from the other when someone from the first dies?

Also, 'invest in a greek hero to upgrade it'? I've got a goodly number of heroes. I'm worried about non-hero things. These questions are asked of ignorance and curiosity, not judgement:

Why Eudoros over Machaon for the Lt.?
Will Machaon, Phoenix, and the Hacker myrm be going solo, or Linking?
Will people really not mind my using a guy with a rocket launcher as though he had just a chain rifle?
>>
>>50888201
> 4 thorakites
I just noticed this. Can I use the Agema as a Thorakite, or am I buying another one?
>>
>>50888264
Groupings are unusual, feel free to move them around they were supposed to be a bit more lobsided, but when I remade the list I got lazy. But there is a benefit to it being like this, the main one is that you have equals orders to accomplish what you need, but i would say change it.

Eudoros over Machaon cos if the fire team ever needs to be cancelled than having an extra lieutenant order is nice. Machon would make a nice LT too, since its a little less obvious.

Machaon, Pheonix and the hacker, should not be linked as they need mobility. They each serve a purpose
Machon - Doctor
Pheonix - Heavy Hitter
Hacker - Hacker

To tie them to each other would mean they would need to stay closer to each other.
Instead it would be better to have 3 Thorakati as another link team.

People wont mind as its in the ITS rule, you are allowed to proxy models. So if they have complaints then complain to Corvus Belli.
>>
>>50888493
Yes you can,

"PROXIES
Under no circumstances can miniatures from other brands or
manufacturers be used as proxies"
>>
>>50888532
>Instead it would be better to have 3 Thorakati as another link team.
Yeah, can I just do that? I thought you needed a character.
>>
>>50888532
>Machon would make a nice LT too, since its a little less obvious.
Wlp 15 instead of 14 makes me feel like he'd be more obvious? Everything I've seen suggests that he should be the LT when it's an option...
>>
>>50888554
>"I quoted a part saying you cannot do A which obviously means the rest says nothing about B"
Reading comprehension failure. Here, let me quote a more relevant part:

"Each figure must represent faithfully the unit it stands for, including its equipment and weapon options."

(that said, in practice it's only for official CB events and 99% other events will give some proxy allowance)
>>
>>50883477
AD Level 5 means he can AND up to three other AD of any level troop can deploy from YOUR table edge as a coordinated order
>>
>>50883568
thats a solid set up and >>50888201
made you a solid list. I dont know if you were asking but almost all games are generally played at 300 points, its where the game seems balanced
>>
The snipits of lore I've read are confusing.
Are Nomads driven against AELPH for religious reasons? Or religiously devoted to undermining it?
When did they add the workers rights stuff to the faction? I didn't remember it being a big part before.
>>
>>50890456
AD 5 is superior combat drop (Hellcats say hi).

And Coordinated Order Tac jump doesn't allow the other guys to jump in on your opponents deployment zone anymore. It's kind of the opposite as RVZ has to jump into the same section as the coordinatong AD 1 and AD2 guys, actually limiting him.
>>
>>50891220
Nomads hate Aleph for all sorts of reasons. They're the rebel faction, they're not exactly homogeneous. There's a group within the Nomads called the Observance which is pretty much just a fucked up cult, they're probably what you're getting the religious stuff from.
>>
Hey, a friend and I are talking about getting into the game. He immediatly fell in love with The Japanese sector of YuJing. After, I started taking a liking to more general YuJing and their use of heavy power armours.
If he played Japan and I went for general or Imperial service would the games be very boring?
>>
>>50891642
>If he played Japan and I went for general or Imperial service would the games be very boring?
No, not at all. Very different units and play styles.
Keep in mind it helps to have other people to play with/talk to about the game locally and the terrain requirement means not having a LGS to play at can be prohibitive for people on a budget.
>>
>>50891968
Thanks for the heads up. As long as one player wouldn't steamroll the other or be using the same tactics, I think I can figure the rest. Not to mention it being so much easier to talk someone into trying a skirmish game over a fullsize wargame.
>>
>>50891220
Bakunin hates ALEPH because it tried to destroy the Bakunin Mothership outright. That gives the other two Motherships reason to hate it because: A) there is a lot of crossbreeding between the three motherships so they have family members on board Bakunin; B) Bakunin is the industrial heart of the Nomad nation, without their manufacturing capability, the independence of the Nomad nation is incredibly unlikely.

The Observance probably grew a lot in influence due to how viciously they fought back the ALEPH incursion.

Corregidor is home to the descendants of the marginalized populations of earth that didn't make it big. They have a tremendous chip on their shoulder vs what they see as the enabler of all those hyper corps and superpowers. Tunguska's very business model is founded upon keeping data away from all prying eyes, especially ALEPH.

As for the workers rights thing, I think that's an ingrained part of the faction identity, particularly Corregidor which is basically a floating labor union. People from Corregidor look after their own. From first edition Intruders were always embedded operatives to ensure their workers weren't abused. Likewise, Mobile Brigada were the armored fist that made examples of people who did screw with their workers. Violating that innate protect the workers ethos is why the Anaconda squadron was deeply unpopular and ultimately cut loose.
>>
>>50892083
There aren't really any factions in the game that would steamroll another. That comes almost purely down to player skill.
JSA will be using hidden ninjas, angry bike gangs and close combat. ISS will use powerful HI, effective and cheap order generation and transforming robots.

There is actually less crossover in playstyles/unit types between these two factions than there is between say PanO and YuJing.
>>
>>50892137
I thought Corregidor was the industrial heart. Bakunin is where the science and the PR happens.
>>
>>50888738
Besides Hector, Machaon is the best Lt in the Steel Phalanx. Besides WIP15, he's a Lt specialist and gets that extra Lt order in case you need to save Regular Orders or make that last minute Objective Run.

Eudoros, Phoenix, Machaon etc etc, SP character are high priority targets, so you should learn to just play with an obvious Lt. If LoL really worries you, then take the generic Officer with Chain of Command.
>>
>>50892968
>Play Saladin often, subjecting my opponents to Strategos 3 shenanigans
>People still don't try to gun him down as soon as possible or go for my obvious Farzan CoC camo token hiding in a corner

You assume they just focus objectives, but more often than not they're just bad at threat assessment and think my HRL Fasid is going to carry the game.
>>
>>50892321
>>50892321
Bakunin is both the mercantile trade heart and where the science happens. Lots of smuggling. That mothership was the first to be formed and convince the other two to form a nation with it. I think they might be the largest of the motherships, and either way, there's a lot of Bakunin blood flowing to and from it to the other ships. It's totally the heart and soul of Nomads.

Corregidor does all the manual labor and manufacturing. It was formed from what was once a penal space station full of insane criminals and murderers. The soldiers are also hired out as mercenaries when not needed. The other anon had it right, but they they send the Mobile Brigada pain trains to take over facilities when their workers are mistreated, and ransom it back to them.

Tunguksa is Tunguksa.

>Tunguksa is Tunguksa.

>>
>>50892180
JSA does HI very well actually. The Haramaki are a great defensive (and now offensive) fire team while the Karakuri are amazingly durable for just having armor 3.

>>50894312
Basically the Anaconda squadron was contracted out to a corporation. When the Corregidor labor staged an uprising, the Anacondas stuck to the contract and put it down. Naturally this was deeply unpopular in Corregidor and the squadron was drummed out of the Nomad nation. However, the story hints that the squadron still maintains ties to the Nomad Intelligence service.
>>
>>50900058
Yeah, but JSA HI is pretty much all light and aggressive and none of it is a single big centerpiece, like the Su-Jian or a HMG Hsien with smoke. That's the main difference.
>>
>>50900256
TBF you intimated the difference between ISS and JSA HI is that ISS HI are "powerful" and not durable. The truth is both have excellent HI with JSA's being less durable, but more plentiful and with way better CC. ISS HI are more elite and, as you said, centerpiece oriented on the HI front.

How viable is it to play mercanaries as a faction.
Is it all named characters for the most part?
Where should I start?
The 1d4chan page said it's about combining units from 3 factions, but I'm not sure what that means to be honest since I never seen a list of faction mercenary units.
>>
>>50905782
Mercenaries are not a legal faction yet. The mercenaries list in the 1d4chan is a leftover from N2
>>
>>50905782
Mercenaries as a faction doesn't actually exist.
>>
>>50905865
>>50905870
So I just pick a faction and then look into mercenaries after. thanks.
>>
>>50905782
Quite a few mercs are available to the QK sectorial for Haqq, to the point that you can field nothing but mercs at many point levels.

Would you want to mechanically? Different question.
>>
>>50905922
Because it will be 2/3 KTS and Druze, and one of the merc TAGs. At which point you are looking at Yuan Yuan to max AVA or dipping into the Haqq or Nomad troops available to QK for you last few points.
>>
>>50905915
Army has a function that allows mercs into your faction, but they're not ITS legal. There are a few mercs available for vanilla armies like Authorized Bounty Hunters, Krakots, Warcors, and Armand. But a few sectorials have mercs in their army lists such as JSA and QK

QK is very merc heavy: Druze and KTS are haqqislam troopers, but technically mercs. QK also gets a few Nomads, Scarface&Cordelia, and Yuan Yuans.

He's up there, but there's De Fernsen. Also a HI specialist, no Holo, but AHD and Martial Arts 3 instead, linkable. Not to mention the trademark PanO BS14 Spitfire. But also a lot more expensive.

I'd have trouble pointing out the "best" HI in the game on stats alone, but I guess Ayyar has the advantage of not being in MO. Also that sweet Sniper Rifle profile.

As soon as that Oznat fire team breaks (like by creating the Soggie fireteam) you're going to lose a bunch of regular orders.

It's up to you, probably be better investing in a Haris and some Datz if you are running a Hungries Core (Zerats and Kurgats are nice quality of life units too).

>>50911483
Zerat might be a good plan for objective work. Doesn't cost all that much more than a Vanguard and is far better in almost every way.

Yep, already got a haris, although I'll be grabbing Daturazi as my next purchase. Hoping that my Hungries will be decent at getting a few kills on the enemy cheerleaders before dying. If that fails, they'll probably be put in a defensive area and simply hold their while my big guys do the real work. I swapped out my 3 Vanguards for 2 Zerats, but what loadout should I use? Currently they're both FOs.
>>
>>50911658
Disregard that last question; they need to be FOs. Wasn't thinking there, haha.
>>
>>50911658
I'd invest in the REMs too if you can splurge for it. E-Drone is one of the better Hackers in MAF. Other one can be a Q-Drone or M-Drone/R-Drone depending on your needs. Ikadrons are also cheap regular orders.

Zerat FO and Combi LFT with Mines are both solid options.
Zert

Planned to grab those after Daturazi, though depending on my paycheck I may order them together. I like their original sculpt more, but I've heard it's a huge pain in the ass to put together. Though I suppose the newer ones would fit better with Morats. Guess I'll see when the time comes.

>>
>>50916544

>>
>>50916482
Tempestus Scions, a replacement for the old Stormtrooper models.
The box is one of the worst deals in GW: you pay as much as for a full 10-man squad for 5 guys all because the kit comes with an absurd amount of accessories, fit to build both regular and Command Temepstus squad (as opposed to Guardsmen having separate kits for regular and command squads).
There's a standard, one of each special weapons, like *16* different heads and even fucking Infantryman's Primers. All for 5 guys total.
I love the models, but seriously, why.

>>50916544
People are extremely nostalgic about the dumpy looking Stormtroopers and awesome Kasrkin those guys replaced. IMO the Scions look just as good as Kasrkin (although Kasrkin look more in line with the rest of the forse, being Cadians) and the old Stormies were fucking awful, from design to execution.
>>
>>50916821

and it sucks too since the Death Watch boxes come with accessories to upgrade normal space marines so in turn thats a pretty good deal.

The Scions problem is that they are essentially meant to be played as a support in a guard army but also have rules if you want to build a full army of them.
>>
>>50916852
Oh yeah, I loved Deep Striking a melta Stormies squad while I played 40k.
But I actually used Kasrkin models and got the Scions to use as Inquisitorial Acolytes. Only ever got around to painting one of them though, badly. And half-painting a Tempestor with a cloak and mustache to act as my General.

I actually hated the beret look, which is weird considering I went PanO and love it on the Fusiliers. Maybe because they don't have as awesome helmet option.

The EI wants humanity in its empire because we might be able to help in the quest for enlightenment. But it also apparently decided that a big war would make a nice character building exercise or some shit, so when CA rocked up they immediately started massacring people with no explanation.

Tohaa hate CA for unrelated reasons. There's a huge archive of knowledge from an ancient race hidden away and the EI really wants to crack it open. Cabbageheads either don't want anyone touching the ancient knowledge or specifically don't want the EI touching the ancient knowledge, I can't quite remember.

It's the EI's end goal, not the CA. Keep in mind that the combined army itself has varying goals depending on what member species you're looking at.

Got the first of my Kazaks painted up in their new scheme. I'd started playing Infinity back on the border of 1st and 2nd and had them in the more standard greens, but I started playing again this past year and have probably doubled or more the number of models I have. Decided to give 'em a new scheme inspired primarily by a mix of the Duty soldiers in STALKER and the Helghast. Urban camo, red for highlights.

Good ole Bogdan, one old little fucker but still an objective-completing son of a bitch when required to play ITS games.
>>
>>50922163
Speaking of which, do you guys name your models, or nah? Since I've been playing these Kazaks off-and-on for years, especially my older models all have a bit of soul in 'em. From Bodgan, the Scout that always manages to win me ITS games by being a specialist half-way up the field somewhere to Stanislav, the AP HMG Vet Kazak is has been my Lt in every game I've ever played and contributed a great many corpses of the enemies of Rodina to a large pile bearing his name.
>>
>>50922066

Oh, we both knew he was going to burst on me, it was needed for scenario (To remove me). So, knowing he was going to let loose on me and I had 2 wounds and was in cover, I just said F it and threw the template back at him.

But I see what you're saying. If I was Active player and used the template, since it's not a F2F he could just roll a normal PHY Dodge and move away right?

Chain rifles are nice and I do love 'em. Hell, since each of my Puppers carries two of 'em, I double love 'em. However, they are far from perfect weapons. Your opponent can react two different ways

>Dodge
Almost guaranteed to get out of it if the model has a decent Physical stat. Especially since they only dodge with a -3 if they can't draw LoS to you.

>Shoot back
Now you don't get to dodge, and if they have any gun other than a Rifle, they probably get the better end of the deal.

Remember, that Chain Rifle is only Damage 13. They do work lovely for AROs if you are in a clustered enough area that you don't get shafted by the range and they can tear apart cheerleaders. But regular ole Damage 13 against someone with a half-decent amount of armor is far from a silver bullet.

>>50922366

...direct template AROs are some of the best stuff in the game. If your opponent dodges then he has an OK chance at success (average phys hovers around 10) on top of wasting his action dodging your chain rifle. If he shoots the piece trade is still likely to go favorably for you as you've nailed a DMG 13 hit on something. Especially when it comes to cheaper models warbands this is especially sick.

In the example of a Domaru, you pretty much want to use the chain rifle any time you can with the exception being multi wound troopers where the choice tends to be between EM grenades or engage if they're within 4". Point is direct templates are fucking great.
>>
>>50922285
No, the dude was trying to say that he can dodge the template as you declare your ARO before your opponent declares the second action (which could be dodge). He was still wrong in thinking this makes the Chain Rifle not worth it as them dodging is a pretty fucking great result for you.

Point is, direct template weapons are as good as you think. They're great at being order efficient during the active turn (although I wouldn't rely on them most of the time) and are excellent ARO pieces. Just keep in mind that Domaru have a bunch of great ARO responses given their EM grenades and Kinematica 2.

You get Haris, They get Haris! EVERYBODY GETS HARIS!

Surprisingly though, I don't see it used that much despite the availability.

Lots of profiles got changed, Pheasant Ranks for example are cheaper due to no Monofilament swords. Some new guns like the Red Fury. Otherwise it feels mostly the same, but slightly better for most. Shas is still crap though.

No totally radically different things though, just some different links.

>>50923754

I understand my ARO goes off first and he can declare dodge as his second short. It was just a situation where it didn't matter what my ARO was, he HAD to kill him for scenario--so I went ahead and shot my Direct Template so hopefully we both dropped each other (and he couldn't feed that guy any more orders to continue on).

I still don't understand how Kinematica 2 actually helps and I know it's because I'm 1) New and 2) suck.

So someone moves up around a corner, is within 4" when he does so, then moves back around the corner. I have to declare my ARO then, I declare Dodge. He declares his second Short which is shoot.

If I successfully Dodge however, he is now over 4" away from me so I just dodge 4" towards him...and get shot again after he moves backwards and does it all over again. Or am I missing something?
>>
>>50926861
You can't use dodge to get into base-to-base. There is an aro called Engage.

If you successfully engage, the enemy places you in b2b with them at the end of their move. With a weird engage a model can move ~20 inches.

>>
>>50927480
Well, it could allow you to dodge into your preferable range bands faster. Say your Boarding Shotgun Father-Knight is shot at by an Azra'il. Kinematica lets him get into the +6 range band instead of running away or maybe even get close enough to Engage or Assault next.

>The CA does want to kill everyone, it's why it has not opened communications and has shot down every diplomatic attempt made by the humans.
This is what ALEPH wants you to believe. The AI running the Human Sphere is fucking terrified of any competition, especially when an AI that has a galaxy-spanning empire working as its data cluster shows up on the block. There is absolutely no way ALEPH can portray CA in any sympathetic way because as soon as there is even the slightest hint of doubt in human minds which AI overlord would be more benevolent, it's clear ALEPH is fucking gone.

EI desires the control over the Human Sphere not only because of the Tzechi Digester that the Tohaa planted on Paradiso, but also because a culture that produces AIs is of utmost importance in EI's quest for enlightenment. Hell, it's not even the results of a massive planetwide efforts, either. Knights Templar made some crazy ass shit that got them shut down hard, the Black labs of Praxis most definitely have some serious research going down and there are rumours that the Old Man on the Mountain is an AI as well.

Believing that EI would kill every human is absolute nonsense. At the absolute worst they'd simply be exchanging one AI overlord over another, except EI wouldn't give them any illusions of being in charge. Yeah yeah, muh O-12, muh Buerau Athena, I sincerely doubt they'd be that swift at pulling ALEPH's plug, because by then Concilium would be turned into glass due to a "severe Shasvastii infiltration" or some shit like it.

Speaking of Shasvastii, it is thanks to EI and the Ur Hegemony that their race even is alive and has a hope for future. EI is an AI of peace and prosperity.

>>
>>50921147
EI is everpresent in every single comlog with 100% efficiency. Every single comlog of every single soldier of Combined Army is part of EI's grid. EI knows quite well what's going on, but a degree of autonomy is necessary for the various species of Combined Army to perform at their peak efficiency. Therefore, it is logical to ignore a few rogue acts here and there. That doesn't mean every member of CA can fuck off anywhere they want and do anything they want, however.

That's exactly how EI works. In Campaign Paradiso book you can read how O-12 analysts are both surprised and terrified that EI has no server cores to speak of, no viable way of dismantling its presence like you could with ALEPH. Achilles thought killing the Avatar would scatter the invaders, but they kept pressing on with no fucks given. Unlike ALEPH, EI has no need for reinforced unobtanium bunkers guarding its servers and suffers no drawback in computing power if one of those servers goes down. EI uses all its citizens as its core, all the runtimes, calculations and actions are spread out across a vast network of comlogs that spans the entirety of the Ur Hegemony and all expeditionary forces. EI can download an aspect of itself into any comlog, without sacrificing any of its computational power of its main runtimes - thus, it is everpresent.

It is fallacious to think of EI as one single entity that sits on a throne deep in the center of the Ur Hegemony and gets information through e-mail. A Charontid, Skiavoros and Anathematic can theoretically be present in the same operation. All three of them are EI aspects, separate in action, autonomous and capable of devising their own plans, but at the same time they still form the EI. It's like digital cells of a digital, galaxy-spanning body.

The fact that EI has hard-coded necessity to think in a vein similar to the Ur Rationalists is a completely separate thing. All this really means is that EI is forced to share their paradigm of understanding existence, rather than be free to think whatever, discover space zen-buddhism, achieve nirvana and tell the Ur that they still have a long way to awaken the buddha within and disappear from reality. That's what the previous project did and that sucked.
>>
>>50931662
Aspects are not the EI, they are copies that can develop their own agendas and personalities.
>>
>>50922257
I don't really go on naming much of my guys unless they earn it or its part of a joke. For example, my Aragoto Hacker who's famously failed four WIP rolls in a row in the same game to press a button is now permanently called "Baka" or Fool, and I'm permanently afraid to field him because he continues to fail basic WIP rolls.

Depending on my audience the Bald Keisotsu who's most easily distinguished for being a FO is either named Baldy, Brazzers Guy, or Saitama.

I call an impersonation marker for my BS Hassassin Fiday "Barbara, from accounting"until revealed otherwise.

For the most part any name I come up with for "my dudes" tend to stay in my head and individual units get called by their generic troop name.

I like to think of my Haramaki Link Team as the "Tokusentai" because I like to imagine them making flamboyant poses, playing Rock Paper Scissors to see who gets to fight as spearhead in CC, and other miscellaneous things the Ginyu Force from Dragon Ball does.
