Since he's a creature he gets unearth, not flashback. But otherwise yeah.
>>50873107
>>50873179
iirc flashback technically works on permanent spells, they just get exiled instead of etbing when they resolve.
...which would make etb abilities not work, unlike "when you cast cardname" abilities.
anyway, the increased cost might not make this better than the original snapcaster.

I didn't make it, this one has been floating around for a while.
>>50864785
saw this in a thread would love to see real
>>50874798
that's an awesome card with lore in the mechanics plus being able to find the answer you need at any time is great too
Man, I've been gone a while. How's everyone been? Happy holidays all around, I hope.
Here's Livewire, from the Superman animated series. I have to admit, I have a hard time coming up with ideas for people with lightning powers that don't involve pinging. Though I was wondering about modifying the numbers of cards that get drawn and discarded with this.
>>50874798
Feels strange to be able to Wish to hand, and Wish your permanents too. I say choose one or the other, probably lower P/T as well. Also, you realize you could just word the abilities so it requires you to exile as a cost, right?
>1, Exile a card from your hand: You may choose [...]
>3, Exile another permanent you control: You may choose [...]
>>50873206
You realize you could use this to effectively steal creatures you don't control, right?
>>50873260
It should unearth for UU or 1U, maybe U.
You can only unearth as a sorcery, so you can't flash in a counter spell.
Never got around to making an actual card.
Yoshi, Who Leads Armies (3)(W)(R)
+1: Place an Honor Counter on target Creature you control. It gains Bushido X, where X is the number of Honor Counters on it and becomes a Samurai in addition to its other creature types.
-3: Untap all Samurai you control. They gain first strike until the beginning of your next Upkeep.
-6: You get an Emblem with "Samurai Creatures you control get +1/+1 for each point of Bushido they have."
Loyalty <4>
>>50877655
I feel like a planeswalker with these abilities should have a much lower CMC to make up for it. If you want to keep the CMC where it is, I suggest getting rid of the Samurai tribal aspects, including Bushido, and changing the counters to regular +1/+1 counters.
>>50877443
That was kinda the point, being that this is a "power creep" thread.

>>50879170
Thanks for the appreciation, though I rarely make custom cards anymore.
>>50874798
I would put the exile part into the cost. Still nice overall
Abilities are supposed to represent her spear, which fires blasts, and her armor, which takes a lot of the damage for her. Not sure how to cost it though. Kinda sad to see IDW reboot the Spaceknight stuff, I hope Marvel can use Ikon again for something.
>>50881920
Pretty cool. Though it should probably be
>All lands are Mountains until end of turn.
>>50881920
How'd I do?
>>50866004
The +1 needs to specify duration.
The -2 ability is super confusingly worded (the "its" should be "that permanent's", because otherwise it looks like it's referring to Momiji's controller, ie you, making it a wash with the life gain).
And the ult is super underwhelming. The color restriction is just a totally needless drawback, and even without that I'd expect something rather more than simply a single Relentless Assault for an ult that takes 4 turns to build to on a walker that can only protect itself reactively, not proactively. An emblem that gives you that effect every turn would be closer to a proper ult (maybe a bit of an overshoot, but closer than that piece of crap).
Also, it breaks the usual formatting for extra combat phases, since it doesn't give an extra main phase after the extra combat.
>>50881196
The color pie can kiss my ass. One of the many things responsible for the atrophy of interesting content in this game. I agree there needs to be some delineation between the colors, but not to the extreme that it is now.
>>50883741
Not him, but I played many games with color differentiation, but no exclusivity between colors, and it's shit, it starts to look like everything has a color-shifted version. Which entirely kills the reason why colors exist.
>>50884035
I'm not saying you're wrong. There definitely needs to be differences in colors. I just feel that the colors themselves are either two narrow (red, green) or too broad (blue), things like abilities are unnecessarily hamstrung as a result, and that some colors are typecast into dead-end mechanics as a result of theme, and nothing, even a new synergistic theme or concept, can break this mold. Because MaRo, or some shit.
>>50884186
So, your problem is not with the color pie, but what was delegated to each color, which I agree.
>>50884428
In a nutshell, yes. That, and their current "design philosophy", if they have a coherent one.
>>50884428
To expound, I don't think counterspelling should be exclusively Blue. Blue should be the best at it, but at least one other colors should have the mechanic as a secondary ability.
Same with burn; Red should be the best, and most efficient, but not have an (nigh-)exclusive lock on it.
At the very least, it would be nice if there were more cards that offered a variety of abilities that are "traditionally" in other color pies, but with a color appropriate drawback.
>>50885019
I don't really have much of a problem with blue getting almost all counterspells, as long as they give the other colors stack interactions too. Green could get something that gains control of creatures spells, and white could exile spells for example.
>but with a color appropriate drawback.
I am not a big fan of this one since this is what Black does. Everything for a price.
>>50881920
>[muffled dunmer screaming in the distance]
>>50885019
>but at least one other colors should have the mechanic as a secondary ability.
I thought white liked counterspells too
>>50885019
>Non-Blue counters
White gets some.
>Non-Red burn
White and Black get some.
Though I do want to point out that the point of the color pie, at least in theory, is to distribute power so each color has some strengths and weaknesses. For example, Blue gets, and should continue to get, the most counters because it otherwise has a very hard time dealing with threats permanently, as the vast majority of its removal is soft. That said, I will speak out against Wizards when they fuck up, like allowing Blue to permanently exile a creature and replace it with a 2/2.
Oh, and in another example, one of my favorite articles by Maro has him talk about how they specifically push color combos in certain directions, as he noted that RB could actually be used to make an effective control archetype, since B's discard and destruction working with R'd access to cheap burn means it wouldn't be very hard to take control of the board.
Make this card legal.
>>50881920
Mountainwalk
>>50887794
Probably wouldn't be too hard to make work legally.
>>50883116
I like it.
>>50887821
Making it a 2/1 has the same effect.
>>50873107
I think one of most misunderstood aspects of magic is what exactly makes cards powerful
It's not so much the size of the effect, It's more about raw efficiency
This is a great card but in a format like legacy or modern it's worse than vanilla snap caster because you can't snap back a lightning bolt for 3 mana, it now costs 4, even though this generates more value most magic formats are about raw efficiency
A truly better snap caster would cost 1 blue and be a 0/1 with flash
>>50892442
Nah, a 2/1 will trade.
First strike works though.
>>50892558
>I think one of most misunderstood aspects of magic is what exactly makes cards powerful
>It's not so much the size of the effect, It's more about raw efficiency
Definitely. I've seen multiple times where people don't understand why people freak out over things like Snapcaster, but nobody even bothers with Platinum Angel or Wurmcoil Engine.
>>50892632
>nobody even bothers with Platinum Angel or Wurmcoil Engine.
I thought Wurmcoil was a Tron staple (or is that just my local meta)?
>>50892716
It is, but only because you can cast it on turn 3
If you're planning on hardcasting it then it's probably a bad idea in a format like modern
>>50873206
I mean the effect is white but the result is really a strictly blue or black effect.
>>50886997
Certainly not enough.
>>50887647
A handful of cards across several blocks doesn't really qualify as part of their color identity, which is what I'm getting at. Especially when some of those come out of Planar Chaos.
You're not wrong about distribution of strengths and weaknesses. It's just that some colors almost completely monopolize certain abilities, which shouldn't happen.
>>50892881
I get what you're saying. This wasn't a serious effort, it was just a tongue-in-cheek jab at power creep-iness.
>>50893163
You're putting the cart before the horse. The power balance of the pie should be the most important thing, and if that means having abilities get monopolized by a certain color, then so be it. If you add a mechanic to a color simply because you want it to be there, without any regard to how it will affect the color in relation to the color pie as a whole, can you really say that's a good idea?
>>50892442
>>/tg/ is bad at magic
>>50893229
I agree with what you are saying in principle. My counter argument is simple: blue.
>>50893289
OK. And Red impulses and prevents blocking, Green forces blocks and hates fliers, Black can tutor without restrictions, White can give you Hexproof. "Blue" is not a valid argument. I realize you hate Blue and don't like how sometimes Wizards implements crappy design for Blue, but that doesn't justify more crappy design for the other colors.
Making a cycle of monocolor planeswalkers. What do you think of my first one?
>>50893493
The second one.
>>50893514
I really wish I could multi-image post
>>50893529
Here's my personal favorite.
>>50893493
Oh god, it reminds me of the shitty planeswalker duel decks Wizards is making now. Thank god they're just supplemental and don't take up an actual set. But really, this feels pretty underpowered to me, not really feeling it here. I honestly think it could be something like 2G.
>>50893514
OK, not every ability has to incorporate a specific theme.
>>50893529
Then use PhotoJoiner.
>>50893289
Red and green both had blue specific counterspells and other toys to cut into blue's near monopolization of stack interaction.
>>50893541
>>50893553

>>50893529

>>50893553
The first ability is functionally nonexistent, so one should judge this as BBB sorcery with two modes, draw or kill.
>>50893543
>PhotoJoiner
One could slap them together nicely in MS Paint in the time it took to figure what the fuck that is.
>>50893434
Funny thing is, I don't hate blue. I play it more than all other colors. Doesn't mean I don't realize that it has more toys in the toybox.
And the last thing I want is more crappy design for the other colors. In fact, I want the exact opposite.
>>50893631
>And the last thing I want is more crappy design for the other colors. In fact, I want the exact opposite.
I don't believe you.

For each Enchantment target player controls, that player must either:
Sacrifice an Enchantment
or
The Enchantment deals 3 damage to its controller.
Why can't Red hit people hard enough in the head that they forget whatever the fuck maintained spells they had?
>>50897992
Think it should be something like
>For each enchantment, its controller sacrifices it unless he or she has ~ deal 3 damage to him or her.
I feel like being symmetrical is more Red, like Aura barbs.
>>50894739
Not gonna happen. It's pretty much impossible to make a good planeswalker at CMC 2 or less, as the mana cost really restricts what the card can do, making it so weak it kinda defeats the purpose of planeswalkers.
>>50893685
Expanding the color pie, questioning the validity of its limits, and looking for new ways to flesh it out hardly counts as blue hate. It is, in my opinion, the most egregious offender, though.

3 toughness is too low, I'd make it a 3/4 at worst, a 4/5 at best. Probably just a 4/4 though.
Also, cards that have used this wording before, use "As it enters", not "when it enters".
Both work of course, but with "as" you can have the hero fight as soon as it enters if you choose power, which is pretty flavorful.
>>50903230
Thanks, I'll change it to a 4/4 and update through wording
>>50864785

I think, this one is the most broken card I made.
This is better than any of the laces. Also better than Painter's Servant. You just change colors of things as often as you like at your whimsy. If your opponent play one you're both locked out of changing colors, though.
Hey, remember Contract form below? What if you could paly it in non-ante games?

Triple black is already a pretty high cost for that.
Sever the Bloodline costs 4 because it has flashback, and it's exile-based.
You could probably get away with 1BB for the cost, at a rare.
>>50907200
I feel like 1BB would fuck with draft. Maybe 2BB, with an optional upside.
>>50907252

>>50909250
Neat, though it would probably get costed at UB over U/B if it has convoke.
>>50909250
Send is not a word and spells on stack are certainly not sent anywhere other than back to their owner's hand.
Also what the fuck are you even saying here.
It can't be a split card since you're only giving one text box and it can't be just a hybrid mana Remove Soul since the name is fucked up.

>>50917315
It's common soft removal. It's not meant to be hyperefficient or unanswerable.
>wouldn't pick in a draft.
Sure you would, if you were in those colors and needed removal. It can shut down a single threat pretty well.
>>50916780
>How're you doing on your set?
Working through the multicolored commons now. I finished up the monocolored ones for this set. After this, I have colorless to do, then I'm moving on to the uncommons. I'm "reprinting" the same common lands from the last set in this one, so I don't have to worry about those this time.
>Card

Just for funsies.
>>50917624

You are retarded and wrong. A 3 mana 2 card answer in 2 colors isn't a good removal spell.

>isn't a good removal spell.

Wow I wonder if that's a way of saying it's a good card or not.
>>50917878
Nah, man. I even said that it's soft removal and meant to allow counterplay. It is definitely draftable, though. How good it is is dependent upon how my block's environment ends up looking once everything is said and done.
>>50917878
You're an idiot. It shuts down a threat well because it is exile, meaning that it's pretty much impossible to get back. Am I seriously going to have to spell out Magic 101 for you?

There's a reason why there isn't a planeswalker based entirely around Auras. This should at the least allow you to make creature tokens. Also, not a fan of the -2 since someone running equipment will probably won't those things to stay equipped rather than coming off. Also, why bother with instant speed? You should really look at Nahiri's first card and take some cues from that.

It lets you get one attack in without fear of removal.
Playable or not? I'm quite proud of how the flavor turned out for this one.
>>50927103
>>50928592
The ult is good, but the -2 feels quite out of place.
>>50936205
It's pushed but Wizards often pushes certain mythics so you have some leeway there. If it's intended as one of the "chase mythics" in your set then leave it as is. It is overpowered, but in a way Wizards would also do it if they wanted this to be pushed.
>>50937264
No.
Nice reference to Ali and coinflips, but no.
It doesn't help against Tendrils which I presume you had in mind when coming up with the card.
>>50937414
How should I reword it so it affects lifeloss effects too?
>>50937445
"If your life total would become less than 1 instead it becomes 1" ?
>>50937465
Something seems a bit wonky about that wording, could you reference an existing card that does something similar? All I can think of is Platinum Emperion and I can't twist the words in any way I'd need to.
Meanwhile, here's the 2nd take, also upped the rarity now that it seems much more abusable, not sure if entirely justified though
>>50936205
On one hand it's a 5 mana creature with a metric ton of abilities slapped on it and Fire every time it attacks, on the other hand it's a 3 toughness creature for 5 mana in 3 different colors with no removal protection aside from the turn it comes into play. Do some playtesting.
>>50937704
It's a repeatable 6 damage for 5 mana with evasion that doubles as a blocker. Even by Siege Rhino standards it ranks rather high on the curve.
>>50936205
>>50937976
Also, I'd remove either first strike or the hexproof ability, and probably even both.
>>50937976
I guess. I'm just always skeptical of high-cmc creatures that are easy to remove.
>>50938087
It has haste. Think of it less as Baneslayer and more like a flying Ball Lightning that doesn't die at end of turn.

Is it supposed to give exponentially increasing amounts of Bushido? Because you can have multiple instances of Bushido IIRC, meaning that the card as written gives Bushido 6 if used on the same creature three times (or maybe 9). Can get even more silly with proliferate or similar.

Thanks for the feedback. What's your opinion on this change:
2RWU
Flying, first strike, vigilance, haste
~ has hexproof unless it's attacking or blocking.
Whenever ~ attacks or blocks, it deals 1 damage to target creature or planeswalker an opponent controls.
4/3
Hexproof is now more constant but you can kill it the turn it etb. Attack triger damage is reduced to 1 but now also triggers when blocking. That damage now also can't target players.

Not sure why you'd use the regenerate reminder text, let alone not the full one. More common usage for similar results is to give it indestructible until end of turn.
+1/+1 counters are not gained, they are put on.
The effect texts don't need to be spread on two lines.
>>50955278
First part seems bit too flavor specific and the effect in general too minor. Like it's literally nothing if you don't have any creatures.
>>50955292
Prowess seems a bit much and unnecessary as the focus of the card seems to be activating the ability often and dumping mana into it.
>>50955311
>>50955317
Pretty vanilla.
And as a final summary of the mechanics and so on what you've done here.
I disagree with making the alchemy/alchemists such a heavy theme. If you flavor the set that a there's a lot of alchemists and alchemy all around you don't really need to tie any mechanic to it. You can just flavor instant/sorcery as alchemy spells and have the effects tied to instant/sorcery cast triggers for example.
There's a may clause in whether you want to cast the tutored card, but you haven't specified where the card goes if you choose not to cast it, placing it on stack obviously.
Alchemical Knowledge seems to be a trend for legendaries and as such it provides massive overabundance of the effect which heavily distorts structure of the game in general. Every card in your hand becomes every card in your library.
In conclusion I'd say the ideas are not necessarily bad, but you're having trouble fitting them into MTG. You'd have easier time making a weird stand-alone card game out of it.
>>50907879
You need to specify the replicate cost, dummy. I assume it's supposed to be equal to the casting cost?
>>50957135
I guess, but:
>So far, each card printed with Replicate has had a Replicate cost equal to its mana cost.
>>50957539
Not him, but that doesn't really mean anything. You still need to specify a cost.
>>50947066
That was intentional. If I were to make it reuse any card that says "counter target" it would get ridiculously stupid.
>>50955746
Thanks for the advice I'll put some work in. Soul binds formatting got really messed up for some reason which is why the reminder text got messed up but your right I should just make it indestructible. I should probably make gate of truth have additional costs instead. I'll fix some of the card errors and as for the alchemists I think I only have 7 or so in the set maybe even less so I don't know if it's going to be that bad but again I'll make some edits.

Someone who is being controlled is still a separate player from their controller. Controlling someone doesn't stop them from being your opponent and vice versa.
>>50965140
This should be a 2/2 for 2 with the effect not just an enchantment. The effect is too narrow to be useful on just an enchantment.

I actually love this, despite being quite powerful. I wish her minus two was more like, "Add X mana of any color to your mana pool where X is half the tapped permanents you control rounded down."
And the ULT should pop out 5 Lone Wolves with shroud.
>>50950751
I'm not sure I understand this but it gives me an idea for a pretty stupid G/U card.
>Oozoid Equalibrium
>3GU
>Enchantment
>Whenever a permanent enters the battlefield, exile it. That permanent's controller gains control of a green Oozoid creature token with X/X where X equals 1 plus all mana in all mana pools. Oozoids have the card text of all permanents in exile. If Oozoid Equalibrium would leave the battlefield, instead exile it and create an Oozoid.
Butchered that text, but basically unstoppable Oozoid apocalypse. If you try to stop it, it just comes back.
>>50953624

>>50965487
Awesome. AWESOME.
Idea was to build a Planeswalker that would interact well with Werewolf tribal. Thoughts? Is the wording on the first ability correct? Is the second ability too Blue-flavored? I wanted her to be able to find creatures with one of her abilities, so that way the +1 and the ult aren't useless.
>>50966587
>>50967016

I'm not sure about the wording on the "X/X ... plus 1"

>>50967016

>>50970670
>remand
Closer to Arcane Denial. In fact very close.
>>50970670
Interesting, but nothing about it is white. Maybe have the controller gain life equal to the countered spell's converted mana cost instead of drawing an extra card, or change it to UU.
Also it should read "Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, put it on top of its owner's library instead of into that player's graveyard."
As it is, it counters uncounterable things, which makes it even more pushed than it already should be at CMC 2.
>>50970751
White sometimes has the ability to put creatures on top of its owner's library (Oust, Excommunicate). I wanted to make a stronger remand that requires color splashing. The second effect is so that the card cannot be recasted unless the player has card draw or waits another turn. I could make it flicker the spell until its controller's next upkeep, but I was worried it would be op.
pic related was tricky to make
>>50970751
>Also it should read
Not him, but it doesn't have to use the "countered this way" wording. Same with Remand versus the Venser bounce card.
>>50970900
With most legendary cards, the first time they reference themselves you have to use the full name. Anyway, I think the ability should just cost more rather than use this really weird thing where you activate the ability then pay another cost on top of that.
>>50971007
That was a typo.
Anyways, here's a non-meme card. I wanted to make it have Partner along with Pia, but (1) I didn't have enough space and (2) who would play with mono-colored partners?
>>50970900
I think it would be easier to just have Robbie Rotten gain all the abilities, power and toughness and types of the creature rather than completely copying it.
Also, Legendary is a supertype not a type.
