I really like it, though it is indeed quite close to L4D. The cross-class banter is lots of fun, and there's an obvious fondness for the setting in the game. I wish the grey seer who serves as the final boss (sort of) had been more of a presence in earlier missions, and that the missions had more of a temporal progression to them.

which is hilarious because warhammer fantasy proceeded to end, so i grabbed some secondhand skaven and played other games instead.

All in all, it's a good melee fps (how many of those are there?) with a lot shit to learn to get really good at. The map secrets element and gear grind is fun, the lore and characters fits like a glove and the graffx look quite good.

Def worth a recommendation for battlemallet fiends, but try to get one-two friends along if you gonna pick it up for the first time.

One of my favorite pieces of fluff is Skaven digging under Beastmen territory. A brayherd passes over it causing the ground to collapse into the tunnel system. Now there's a cave that the Beastmen funnel warriors into to endlessly fight Skaven hordes over nothing.

The Pyromancer's bolt struck with an incredible force, enough to rip through the body of a small black clan-rat. Immediately the rat screamed in pain and was lit on fire. Next to him, Thak Clawsharpen jumped away in terror. He looked upon his fellow skaven rat not in empathy, but in fear for his own wretched and flea bitten hide.

The red robed man was already casting again, another wave of flame ready to assault the densely clustered group of rat-like creatures. While short, underfoot, and many being diseased and gangly they attacked in an unending swarm. More then enough to defeat the city they were currently assaulting. They would take heavy casualties from the worthless clan rats of course, that was to be expected.

The clan rats scattered and Thak dived underneath an upturned metal drum. He felt the heat singe his fur and make hot the metal all around him, the screams of the clan rats muted slightly by the metal walls. All was silent.

Thak heard nothing but the stomping of feet in that blackness, the empire's men. He may be small, but he was not stupid, and so he cowered quietly like a rat in his hole, waiting for the men to pass. He heard the stamping of feet and the sounds of faint skaven screams nearby, soft voices silenced by blades. Thak would curse as he heard the emperor's men finish off the other skaven one by one, using their blades or even flame. He knew some were going to be burned because he could smell it, and it disgusted him.

Thak's Clawsharpen stayed in that metal drum for more then a day, his lips soon flecked with white froth from dehydration. He shivered to himself, almost wishing the Great Horned Rat would appear and kill him as to end his own torment. When he could stand it no longer he waited until nightfall, then crawled out from under the drum and fled into the night, his tail flicking as he ran into the underbrush.

Anyone home?

Following the path of bloodied leaves and old rat-tracks he returned to where his clan had burrowed up just outside of the assaulted city. The mud on the ground had thousands of marks from claws, weapons, wagons and tails dragging across it, and so it was easy to follow. It was within a minute that he realized that it would also be easy to follow for anyone else.

The dynamite exploded sharply in the forest, sending shell-shocked birds and squirrels running from their hiding spots. They had already hid from the nasty skaven army of course, but this was just insult to injury. Peeking over a bush, Thak saw a group of man things, the burny ones, who had just collapsed the cave entrance that had been dug. It was a deep chasm in the ground, caved in with rubble. The empire men took no joy in their work, but one saw fit to kick the corpse of a fallen skaven.

Thak slumped back against a log and was stunned, blown away. How could he return home now? He was planning on returning with something, a little piece of warpstone perhaps or a lie of fleeing to preserve from made up intelligence report. Now he couldn't return at all, the cave was blocked. Even worse, he knew he couldn't stay as the braying of dogs sounded closer. The Empire men were probably looking for survivors, and he was one of them.

Multiple times the dogs drew onto his tail, but he luckily stumbled across some slain empire peasants that fled to the wood. He exchanged clothes with the corpses and ran, hoping he could evade death. Death by dog, fire, blade, or even some other kind of death. He didn't desire any of them.

Fleeing now into the deeper forest and into the mountains- the Skaven named Thak was about the least Skaven of all Skaven could be. His body was white and brown; brown on his back, shoulders and sides with a white underbelly. The white of his belly stretched up to his neck and bottom part of his face, but a brown 'hood' covered his eyes, and the white of his belly also extended down to his crotch and groped around his back end, giving both his thighs and fuzzy rat backside a nice white color up to the base of his tail. He was trim of course, but not to the bowing extent that other skaven were. When young, Thak had been fed more food then other skaven of his liter, showing promise. But his clan-master was 'accidentally' blinded with acid and lost in a pit until a new master took over, in which case Thak's promised position was lost. Thak hadn't been blessed by Nurgle's disease, or even been allowed to touch any sacred warpstone. Finally- Thak was also a virgin as one would expect of a skaven of little note. Truly a loathsome creature.

The longer he trod through the woods, the worse he felt. The running skaven felt almost agoraphobic, hating the open fields and trees. At any moment he felt as though an elf would spear him with a well placed arrow, or that a beastmen would appear and 'spear him' as well. He shuddered, but thankfully the signs of civilization began to appear.

The dusty old road lead uphill, and the skaven followed it. He didn't stay on the road directly so he wouldn't be seen, but he put up his hood and covered his body, wrapping his tail around his midsection just in case. As it went, the road got narrower and narrower, but he heard the click-clack of wagon wheels far before they appeared, and he ducked behind a tree stump before they approached.

He was hungry, and he smelled food. Without thinking, he crept onto the road ahead and sat with hands outstretched, his best impression of a beggar, and praying to the Great Horned Rat this would work.

The humans passed by in a covered wagon, the back totally filled with bags of flour. He could tell just from smelling the air. But he smelled something else too, something sweet...

Within a minute, a young big-breasted woman appeared, motioning to the pretending rat. He almost growled as she approached, not as a hate for man-things but because he desperately wished to drag such a pretty young woman back to his den for breed-breed. At least that's what all the other skaven talked about, but here and now he didn't feel quite the same.

But he did lower his head, hoping not to catch her eye and reveal his true nature. Anyone who thought the skaven a beggar would truly think that beggar was the shortest, scrawniest and saddest lot there was. The woman spoke softly, pitying the poor rat man.

>"Aww- you poor thing. You like starved to the bone."

The woman turned around for a moment and the rat peeked up his eyes to see what she would gift him, but was surprised when she nearly dropped an entire apple pie into his lap.

The woman smiled, but none of the others of her group stopped for the begging rat except her. Thak was stunned for a moment, he felt... Strange. Normally he would feel nothing for stealing from his fellow rats but this- he was not used to getting something for free.

He spluttered on his words, trying to swallow them up as soon as he spoke them, not trying to give off his speaking pattern and revealing himself to be skaven. But the women just smiled, shaking her head. She turned and left the beggar to his own now, who simply sat there with a whole pie. After a second's hesitation he ate the entire thing, his greedy maw devouring the pie, licking the tin. The man things were only good for their cooking! This pie, somehow, was sweeter then he could imagine- it gave him a strange sickly feeling in his gut that was somehow different from the fruit and jam used to make it.

With one hand on his full and strangely happy belly he crested the top of the road and finally found the destination- not a city with a nice sewer for him to hide in like he hoped, but a mill. It was a tall old thing, running water on one side turned a huge wheel. There was a surrounding area fenced in with a yard, some chickens, but nothing major of note. The rat cursed his foul luck but then saw the owner of the mill- a young human with dark blonde hair, standing outside and watching the wheel turn for a moment as though turning his mind along with it. For some odd reason, the skaven could not turn away from this man, alone, looking so peaceful and thoughtful. His conscious mind almost reeled in disgust at this display of peace, but somehow he was intrigued.

The man walked down to the water besides his millhouse and began to strip off his clothes, Thak noticing especially the jingle of housekeys. The skaven scrabbled down, he wanted to grab the keys to the mill, take it over perhaps. But he couldn't help but watch the naked form flexing and soon dipping into that cold water.

The rat watched the man for an hour before creeping down the riverbed to get closer, finally shaking off his unusual method of learning about the male anatomy. Despite the distraction he was soon within striking distance of the man's clothing. He planned to dash in and grab the keys, but the man got up just in time to start drying off. He took his towel from a nearby stump and stood up, wrapping the towel around his waist. Strangely, that upset Thak more then the man just being there, which had upset him enough already.

Despite the setback, Thak creeped forward with his hand outstretched towards the naked key ring, but then stopped cold when he heard the loud clicking noise. There was a flintlock pistol pointed at him now, the man having turned around when he wasn't looking. His blue-gray eyes burned like steel into the skaven's own.

Hard has a horde of dribbling retards that can't dodge/block causing eternal Down chains, but is just hard enough to get overwhelmed if you go solo, so you can't just ditch them.
I've seen level 10s with greens handle nightmare better than 50s with exotics on hard

Honestly I always liked how the Gotrek and Felix series portrayed them. They are capable of incredible things but they're just so Saturday-morning cartoon evil that they can't get shit done as a society.
