Let's roll us up a 40k Planet.

There's been a lot of 40k creation threads going around here, which I approve of, but they're all piecemeal chapters, regiments, warbands and cults.

Let's take this a step further, and roll us up details about an entire planet. After that, we'll roll up a group. It could be the Homeworld of a Chapter or Regiment, or the Forge World our latest cult is working to corrupt. Might even be the next planet of conquest for our very own Ork Klan. Who knows what could happen?

Tables are here: http://pastebin.com/aQBEJJM2

If this turns out decent enough, I'll create a wiki page for the Planetary Classification Tables.

Anyway, to get us started, I need a 1d8 for environment.

Since OP appears dead, I will take over this thread

we got:
>Malicious – Climate and ecology corrupted by presence of the warp, or has developed a malicious mind of its own.

Next roll:

> Malicious – Climate and ecology corrupted by presence of the warp, or has developed a malicious mind of its own.

Well, Shit, Looks like we've got our work cut out for us.

>>50807552
In another time, another place, we might have had Paradise.

Alright, so our planet is an absolute hellscape... Roll 1d8 to see exactly how many people we've fucked over with this Emperor-forsaken rock.

Relic – System contains a relic of the dark age that is irresplaceable to the imperium. Unique weapons manufactorums, planetary facilities, teleportariums, etc. This technology is likely already used by the inhabitants, and is well known.

Ah, shit, so the only reason people stick around is because the Imperium has deemed whatever tech exists there as completely necessary to the imperium

Roll 1d8 for the planet's integrity.

>>50807789
What. The. Fuck.
>Inquisitional Vindication – Population has unique traits that have attracted the attention of the Inquisition, who have subsequently cleared the planet of charges of heresy.

So, it's rife with Warp Fuckery, necessary to the imperium... and the people are innocent?

Alright, roll a 1d10 for planetary significance.
>>
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>50807848
>>
>>50807848

Sounds like the Inquisition decided that whatever that relic is, it's too vital to condemn the planet as heretics.
>>
Alright, to summarize:

we got:
>Malicious – Climate and ecology corrupted by presence of the warp, or has developed a malicious mind of its own.

>Relic – System contains a relic of the dark age that is irresplaceable to the imperium. Unique weapons manufactorums, planetary facilities, teleportariums, etc. This technology is likely already used by the inhabitants, and is well known.

> Inquisitional Vindication – Population has unique traits that have attracted the attention of the Inquisition, who have subsequently cleared the planet of charges of heresy.

>>50807927
And on top of all of that:

> Sibling Rivalry – Multiple colonies or factions present in system. A great deal of tension has evolved between them.

So... how do we interpret this really quick before rolling a group?
>>
>>50807958
How about a planet that has been stuck inside a warpstorm, with only a DAoT planet wide gellar field keeping them safe? And over time various factions fought over this aincent relic.

Just brainstorming here really
>>
>>50807957
Makes sense.

>>50807958
>Sibling Rivalry
First thing that comes to mind is the people of the planet having some major contentions with the Adeptus Mechanus that are present there.
>>
Alright, so where do we want to take this? Guardsmen Regiment charged with holding back the warp daemons? Space Marines that might actually stand a chance? Cult that the imperium gave a pass to?
>>
>>50808342

Why not roll several groups and that's where the rivalry comes in?
>>
>>50808342
Imperial guard ftw!
>>
>>50808404
>>50808399
You know what? Fuck yeah. Multiple groups it is. Starting with Guardsmen, who are probably conscripted from the planet itself, and are probably classified as PDF. So... roll me d100 for Recruitment criteria.
>>
Rolled 90 (1d100)

>>50808476
>>
>>50808497
>Convicts: Serving their sentence on the front lines, the slime.

Yeah, that seems about right. Whatever threatens the people on this hellscape, it's probably not something you're leaping at the prospect of facing, so recruitment is likely treated as effective legal punishment.

Which means we've got Nature of Recruitment covered.

We've already rolled for Homeworld... But give me a d100 roll for predominant terrain.
>>
Rolled 46 (1d100)

>>50808589
>>

>Fanatical: No remorse, no retreat, no fear.

Pretty damn loyal then... apparently getting convicted of a crime and being forced to go off and kill the warp scum doesn't do much to put a damper on your faith in the Emprah. Makes you wonder what they're facing that Lighting Strike tactics are their main method of attack, it almost seems too optimistic.

d100 for the Regiment Creed.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

d100 for regiment friendlies.(16-30 and our next roll is for the local Marines Chapter)

>>
>>50809366
>Imperial Navy

Well, that explains a lot. We've got a large gothic cathedral full of friendlies on our side. Actually... let's roll one last d100 to see who our enemies are. If we get something nonsensical, we'll default to a Warband.

And the Dice gods smile upon us! We've got ourselves a solid BBEG on our hands. Stand by for the Daemon Prince's Warband Creation.
>>
To summarize, our Warp-tainted Desert World has Ancient Relics considered essential to the Imperium, so much so that the Inquisition is willing to turn a blind eye to some supposed heresy.

The local PDF is made up of convicts who are fanatically loyal to the Emperor and his cause, and use their exotic mounts(Camels?) to pull off Blitzkrieg tactics against the forces of Chaos and Warp Fuckery. They've got allies in the Imperial Navy, and an enemy in a genuine Champion of Chaos.

Pretty fucking awesome. Any suggestions on changes that might need to be made to the Planet Tables before we move on?

A Warp-tainted desert, where a Nurglite band of CSM wish to establush themselves?

I have an idea
The whole desert is, for lack of a better term, a graveyard.
The planet, once a lush garden thanks to an archeotech civilization whose remaining wonders the Imperium jealously guards, is now an endless desert. Endless, but not empty. Dotted by ancient ruins, the shfiting sands are teeming with the remnants of life that once called it home. The dry husks of trees and desiccated bones cover the entire surface, at times buried and at times uncovered by the merciless wind, a constant grim reminder of the once teeming life, and the inevitability of deah and decay. Death is in the very air of the deserts, and all who enter are left wandering if it is even sand that shifts beneath their feet, or powdered bones.
It is no wonder than, that the Lord of Decay has found an interest in the planet, and sculpted what little, hardy life remained on its surface to suit his needs, creating gaunt, miserable creatures that suffer and starve in the endless sands, but must live on, blessed by the Grandfather. And it is said, when caught in a sandstorm, trying to survive against shards of bone on the wind and choking dust filling the air, the distant, gurgling whispers of the Plague God become audible to the ear.

I always associate the plague god with rot and decay, which requires atmosphere in the air. Bleached bones on white sand don't make me think of Nurgle.

How about the place was once slowly rotting, becoming a dark and twisted death world, before the Inquisition deployed incendiary cyclonic torpedoes, turning the place into a blasted hellscape?

The existing, corrupt population was extinguished, and criminals sent to rebuild the planet, neatly explaining both the makeup of the population and the reason that Nurgle is so mad about it.

Nurgle is more than mere Decay and Plague. He is also Death and Despair, both of which can be found in a desert aplenty. In a way, the desert proposed is like the final stage of decay, when nothing else remains to rot, and all things settle into an eternal, hopeless state of lifelessness.
Limiting the Chaos Gods to their most stereotypical aspects makes things boring anyway - the Warp and its deities shouldn't be predictable and cookie-cutter.

The SKitarii creation tables are terrible, so maybe not them. How about a Knight House instead?
>>50817763
Since there is some strange tech here, and it is a desert world, perhaps some 'Crons up in this place? I suggest Crons, a Heretical Cult (dedicated to them or Chaos), an Ork Klan, 2 AdMech factions and maybe a SOB Order or something to round it out.
Also, please post a summary of everything so far so we can fluff stuff out further.
>>
Bump before my internet goes.

If someone one could just post a summary of the Inquisitor or the Nurgle Warband, that would probably help massively.
>>
>>50824034
Why not go crazy and have a Titan Legion? It would explain how the local PDF manage to compete with some many CSM.
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Titan_Legion_Creation_Tables

Imperial Knights here, if anyone want 'em instead.
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Imperial_Knight_House_Creation_Tables
>>
>>50824654
Titans would be a little overkill.

Knights sound like a much more reasonable option. Not powerful enough to wipe them out. But strong enough (with the PDF) to keep them the CSM and their Prince at bay.
>>
Op here. Sorry guys, but work called me in, so I'm unable to manage this thread.

>>50824034
Knight house sounds cool. What's wrong with the Skitarii tables?

Rolling for Imperial Knight House's Vow

Basically a poorer version of the IG one with bad AdMech stuff taped on by inexperienced writers.

Rolled 51 (1d100)

So we're there to protect the Dark Age Tech from any threats. Looks like they made a smart move, considering the existence of the Nurglite Marines. I'll roll for first Imperium Contact.

Free Knights! There is no inheritance structure; when a Knight and title become "up for grabs", they are fought over until someone holds it by might makes right.

Amazon-Cognatic - Agnatic-Cognatic, but gender-swapped, which is basically this.

Only females are eligible; if no suitable females exist in the current set of inheritors, males in the current set are eligible; only go to the next eligible set of inheritors when the entire current set is dead.

Reasonable: As with much of the Imperium, ritual guides most aspects of life, within reasonable limits.

Rolling for house demeanour
>>
>>50826815
Yeah we add them. And since we both got 5, the roll gods clearly seek this number!

Uphold the Honour of the House - Our house matters the most.

Basically: If an enemy dishonors us, fuck the orders from came, they're about to get a one-way ticket to Fucked Ville, all expenses paid.

Same thing goes for our allies, if they insult our honor. They'll be getting the Isle seat on the plane to Fucked Ville.
>>
>>50824509
Here is the Nurgle Black Legion Warband, senpai.
Legion Warband
Black Legion
Fanatic. The marines of the warband are highly devoted to their God(s), willingly submitting themselves to the Ruinous Powers and viewing possession as favourable.
Worship Nurgle
The Gods Above All - The warband reveres their God(s) above all else.
Honour Amongst Thieves. Despite being evil and cruel individuals, these Marines have a strong sense of brotherhood. Many would never even consider betraying their fellow warriors an option, and would even sacrifice themselves to save a friend's life
Hunger for Flesh
Surrounded by Traitors - Marines are paranoid that those who surround them are schemers and liars who may backstab them at any moment
Daemon Prince is the figure of Legend
The figure is remembered as a scourge of the Imperium, having ravaged many planets and slaughtering servants of the Emperor aplenty.
Come from a dead world, that was once a desert world.
Bloody Rain - Marines make heavy use of drop pods, gunships, dropships and jump-infantry.
Special Chaos Icons
Massive in size (probably around five to ten thousand marines)
Grew in size by attracting many small warbands to them
Ally is the corrupt governor of the world/sector.
Enemies are the Penal Imperial Guard Regiment of this world.

For the name, maybe something like the Black Death or something?

Enjoys a Bit of the Claret: There's a difference between killing the foe and splashing around in their blood.

Alright, so we've got a house of honor-obsessed, bloodthirsty mech-babes who have the occasional family catfight over who gets mom's title. Sounds good.

Rolling for Figure of Legend
>>
Rolled 66 (1d100)

>>50826995
A Baroness, which is cool. Those are the heads of the houses, right?
I'll roll for deed.
>>
>>50826995
I think we should go for that and mix it with the Eye to Eye result. Makes sense.
>>
Rolled 5 (1d10)

Sounds good! Super CQC Knights who prefer the color red on their suits a little too much.

>>50827023
They are the heads, yes. Hope she's a looker.

Rolling for Domain Size

We don't need to do Homeworld, since that's already decided.

>>
>>50810497
>>50810382
Do the opposite, nurgle's realm is also decay, so why not have emaciated borderline-skelly marines?
>>
>>50827127
I always prefer reaper marines to zombie marines, so let's do that.
Maybe emphasis the despair and brotherhood parts of Nurgle over the plague-y parts?
>>
Rolled 1 (1d10)

>>50827113
I say she was the one who brought this whole sector back into the Emperor's Light. She's still alive and kicking, and terrifies the SHIT out of all of the royals and the PG because she took this sector before, and if they don't do their job. She'll be back for them.

Rolling for House Hierarchy
>>
Rolled 8 (1d10)

>>50827151
They are strict, but in a simple enough way: Might makes right. While knights fighting knights is bad, unless you have confirmed battlefield kills, your opinions are worth dirt. Not to mention the fact that no one, not even the local Daemon Prince, goes against the big Mama. Perhaps fear of her lead the Governor to corruption? I'll handle combat doctrine.
>>
>>50827150
>despair and brotherhood parts
Especially fitting seeing as how they are trying to claim another home. The nurlge marines are devout believers who have been harried and decayed to the point of almost non-existance, at the same time the Imperium needs the world for its Dark Age archaeotech and sends a fanatically loyal conscript unit and duty-bound, honorable knights to seize it. Makes both sides consider this conflict a desperate fight for their very survival.
>>
Rolled 56 (1d100)

>>50827195
Oh yeah. He was so scared that she would rip open his powdered wig of a skull and shit down his flabby neck; he thought joining Chaos looked peachy in comparison. And that they might give him the strength to be rid of the terrifying woman.

Siege! That's how they did it the first time, these Knights sure know how tear down fortifications.

Rolling for Preferred Knight Variant
>>
>>50827216
Nah, the Knights and Penal Legions are here and cleared in order to protect priceless Dark Age tech...
Which could be a terraforming device, which the Nurgle Marines would love to get and restore their home world- in their own, twisted way- back to what it was. They've a really inspiring leader in the Daemon Prince who gets other Plague Marines all sentimental and they go lend a hand to get these guys their home back!
>>
>>50827238
Let us not say he is Chaos yet. I think he deserves his own rolls on the Heretical Cult table, plus didn't we want Necrons and shit round here?
Crusader makes no sense for us, I say re-roll.
>>
>>50827290
I wouldn't say that. It's heavy firepower and we are experts at siege

What better way to siege then to pack the biggest guns around?
>>
>>50827290
And no, just three factions. The Knights and the Penal Legions are to deal with the /massive/ CSM warband and their Prince trying to take the planet.
>>
Rolled 62 (1d100)

>>50827316
We are also meant to have an erection for close combat. Crusader lacks any CQC, if I remember right. Let us see what I roll now.

Rolled 56 (1d100)

>>50827343
Still Crusader! Re-rolling again.
>>
>>50827330
No Xenos at all? Or any other Chaos infulences?
>>
>>50827373
Seems like the dice gods really want us to use the crusader anon. Do you wanna keep rerolling, or try to make it work somehow?
>>
>>50827373
Actually, I got the Castellan. I believe it has Autocannons and CQC weapons, so it works fine for us! Let us roll for for Knights we can't use, or should we just say the Crusader is forbidden to us?
>>
>>50827330
Don't forget our Badass inquisitor Grandma who's leading the Penal Legions
>>
>>50827381
Nope. We just decided on that. Because originally we had just the Penal Legion and the CSM. But when they turned out to be super overstrength and we needed another powerful Imperial force to help. So we chose the Knights.

>>50827407
Crusader is forbidden works just fine!

>>50827415
We've got two badass women. One is the Inquisitor, and the other is a Baroness who retook the entire sector with siege warfare and good looks.

Rolling for house combat strength
>>
>>50827481
BWHAHAHAHA!
So we made these guys to balance out a massive CSM problem.
But now that we're well overstrength, and with the backing of the Guard, how the hell are they an issue?
We need Xenos, dammit!
>>
>>50827481
Holy SHIT we are STRONK as fuck.

And our allies are obviously the Penal Legion. And our enemies are the CSM warband on the planet as well.

>>50827480
Maybe. Not sure. Because now we have really strong Knights who are great at siege and love CQC. And really strong Reaper marines. And a Penal Legion in between.
>>
>>50827521
If it's Crons' they've got to be weakened. Because neither side could stand against their full potential.

And Orks? Well that could work out.

So either struggling Necrons or Orks.
>>
>>50827524
Tossing in an Ork Klan could explain why the Knights aren't stomping the Marines, as they have to keep them in check. A Necron incursion, on this world or off world, would also work.
>>
>>50827561
I don't know. Let us say they awake on this planet. What do they find? 10, 000 genetically enhanced humans, armed with reality fucking weapons and aura of despair and fear that even they give no pause, and how fight tooth and nail to defend each other. On the other side, there's this bunch of giant robot suits piloted by the females of some species which love tearing them apart so hard they can't reform while seemingly insane members of their species charge them on the back of some alien calvary. Seems pretty hard to beat to me.
