That's a really stupid fucking question, you know that? The tail is a sensitive and for many species prominent organ that, like any organ, doesn't like getting man-handled without explicit consent - it's like touching, stroking or pulling someone's hair, it's not something you do unless you're intimate or in a sexual situation.

We're lewd and shitty and full of memes, but the people here genuinely want to at least put up a front of maturity. These goddamn images have been cropping up for almost a year now and it's really getting annoying.

We asked for this. We might as well own it.

They've stopped doing this years ago? When was the last time we got an adventurepath with actual honest to goodness love interests or creepy sex stuff?

The answer is Hell's Rebels, and they fucking put a TRIGGER WARNING on that shit - and that answer isn't even truly correct, because there were no waifus in Hell's Rebels either, just Barneyfags clopping up and down a Hell-tower being gleefully petty in some 6th grade attempt at edge.

Hell's Vengeance doesn't even have waifus, the only girl that you can really fuck is the bardic slut in like, Book 2-3 and she's explicitly described as a free-spirit who just likes to spread her legs for men that make her giggle.

>implying Strange Aeons didn't have weird fetish tentacle sex

Oh please, Strange Aeons has tentacles so *clearly* that means sex is going to be a thing. It's not like we've had more explicit insinuations of sex going on like with the Ogres death-fucking a Nymph and her boyfriend or an evil Aasimar taking the knot from her vile wolf-friends or heck, the fact Lamashtu's got a demon mask that literally allows you to mate with horses.

What is this piecemeal armor you chaps are going on about?
What is this NEW fucking item system they have going on now?
>>
>>50804614
>What is this piecemeal armor you chaps are going on about?
It's a way to squeeze out an extra 1 or 2 extra ac in exchange for going full autism.
>>
>>50804614

Okay.

So like.

You know how armor has different bits?

It's that, mix-and-matching armor pieces. The rule is you always take the lowest Dex modifier, always take the highest ACP, and add-up the ACs.
>>
>>50804632
Fuck you, sperg.
>>50804635
>You know how armor has different bits?
Yes, I do know that, D&D has NEVER had accurate armor rules, or plate would not have ridiculous ACP considering it's less encumbering than a maille hauberk.
>the rest of this
You wanna give a chap an example?
>>
>>50804648
>You wanna give a chap an example?

Here you go, my man: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCombat/variants/piecemealArmor.html

And for an example:

>Arms (Tatami-do) - +1 AC, +3 Dex, -5 ACP (30 feet movement)
>Legs (Chain) - +0 AC, +2 Dex, -2 ACP (30 feet movement)
>Chest (Stone Coat) - +8 AC, +0 Dex, -7 ACP (20 feet movement)

This gives us armor with +9 AC, +0 Dex and -7 ACP treated as Heavy armor

Thinking of getting into Pathfinder.

Is the PF community generally better than other communities - If so, why?

How does Pathfinder fare? Is it unbalanced mess, fun, what does it focus on?

What is must have/know for a beginner?

HAHAHAHAHAHA no.
>How is PF
It's spawn of 3.5 D&D, it is horrible mechanically.
>must know
As a beginner, you need to know that there is shit that does work, and there is shit/ideas that WILL NOT WORK AT ALL unless you know an incredible amount about the system and it's options.
I would greatly recommend you google 3.5/PF tier lists, as the dissertation explains the mechanical quibbles of the game handily.

What the heck makes you think /pfg/ players or /pfg/ games are awful? When have you ever heard of a /pfg/ nightmare story? I've been gaming with you dorks for a good year now, and I can count the number of problems I've had on one hand. Pathfinder General is pretty great at making and running games, certainly better than Gamefinder and *way* better than Roll20.
>>
>>50804690
So
>Arms: Plate
>Legs: Hide
>Torso: Plate
Would end up with 9AC, and the ACP/ASF of plate?
With less weight and hundreds off the price?
>>
>>50804648
>>50804844
The biggest ones are Agile Plate (Torso) + Scale/Lamellar Steel (Arms) + Scale/Lamellar Steel (Legs), which is Mithral Full Plate in all but weight and price, costing only 570gp when masterwork for the equivalent of 10,500 gp.

The medium armor results in a 7 armor, +4 max dex, 2 ACP (1 when Masterwork), 30 ft. movespeed, all for 280gp. It's some combination of Chain Torso, Lamellar Horn Arms, Studded Leather Leg, and Masterwork.

If anything, system should be used for heavy armor, at least in pricing. Martials already get dicked in having to pay for the magic items that they do, charging them less for armor is a decent start. And actually, the movespeed thing is also a pretty good boon for them that I'd maybe keep around.
>>
>>50804798
>>It just sacrificed Vancian casting and artificial separation of class mechanics to get them
>Unless you think 2e was shit because it didn't have skill ranks?

D&D isn't supposed to be balanced. 4e was too balanced for it's own good.

>>
>>50804920
>D&D isn't supposed to be balanced
Gygax disagreed with you since Basic.
The different XP tracks, the weakness of (offensive) wizards and hardiness of (defensive) clerics all speak of attempts to balance the game that were thrown out with 3e, leading to the mess that you see here and is defended as being the "correct" way to look at D&D.

>>
>>50804934
>Have you been in any of these fucking threads, you troglodyte?

The thread is anonymous banter. Everyone that gets their username outted is way more civil, especially in games.

>Every fucking time I've played with someone from /tg/ they've been a faggot

YMMV, I guess? Some people find good groups, others get the faggots. I hope you find a good group with us soon! The RotJR and Molthune DM seems cool, and depending on who they pick it might be a real fun experience!

>>
>>50804874
>The biggest ones are Agile Plate (Torso) + Scale/Lamellar Steel (Arms) + Scale/Lamellar Steel (Legs), which is Mithral Full Plate in all but weight and price
Does it count as medium armor due to it being 2 parts medium/1 heavy?
>>
>>50805027

Nope, for proficiency purposes it counts as the heaviest piece.
>>
>>50804926
I'd be 5 AC, +1 dex, 7 ACP, and heavy armor move speed. I'd avoid plate arms if you can. Most other arms come with gauntlets, so going scale, Lamellar or banded steel should be near enough with out dicking yourself on ACP. Even then, this probably is just worse wholesale than the standard armors.
>>
>>50805023
Where ELSE would I do so?
I mean, if you people can go on about kitsunes, ero rp and how much you hate Paizo, surely I can relate my grievances about the game itself.

I was interested in RotJR until it became everyone's favorite thing to talk about for months now. I'm also not remotely interested in "lewd" nonsense and I don't want to play a game full of it.

I'm retarded and thought you said plate arms and legs with hide torso.

Yeah that'd be 9 AC, 1 max dex, and -7 ACP with heavy movespeed for 578 gp non-masterwork. My point on the Plate Arms still stands, they cost a shit ton and the only thing they give you is a fuck ton of ACP. Save yourself some money and failed rolls, swap arms out to something lighter. Or don't and just enjoy cheaper full plate.

Druid is best early game, where you get double action economy and wildshape before both those class features tail off.

Wizurd is best late game because Jason Buhlman has a pointy hat fetish. Also, Simulacrum is probably the single strongest spell in the game bar none by RAW.

Cleric is strong all the way through, and can gate in Solars with prayer beads. In addition, condition removal is so important to not die, I'd rather have a Cleric before any other full caster with respect to party composition.

Witches make the best necromancers due to the gravewalker archetype granting all the important necomancy spells (Command Undead, Animate Dead, Blood Money) at the lowest levels possible, can make their own nightsticks to make up for not having Desecrate, and they can attain pseudo-lichdom by using their archetype ability to possess undead bodies indefinitely.

I dunno, if you can make a knowledge check to establish you know a thing exists, you can make a simulacrum of it. You don;t need a sample of the subject to make a simulacra anymore. Even using it for it's "intended" purpose, at the level you're getting it at, you've basically quickened all of your level 3 and lower slots simultaneously, while doubling your action economy, and if it snuffs it, you just make another one for hideously cheap prices.

Making a Tarrasque simulacra mount for the fighter is always fun too, I highly recommend it.

Does this mean that they get the feats of that character level on top of the spell casting abilities of that level, or just the latter?

As an example, fighter 1, wizard 4 takes eldritch knight 2. He gets access to level 3 wizard spells but does he also get mage bonus feat?

From the PRD:
>You can't create a simulacrum of a creature whose HD or levels exceed twice your caster level.

From the Tarrasque:

You can do this at level 15. For free too, if you can magic jar your way into a 31 STR body before Blood Moneying your way into free simulacra.

Well my favorite from 3.5 got murdered in Pathfinder, the best option is hands down is evangelist due to it progressing your other class for all but the first level and continuing to give you class features from it, everything after that is just gravy, especially for spell casters who will get more hp and skills out of it for one caster level which can be mitigated with a trait.
Aside from that, shadow dancer one level for SU HiPs is not bad if you need to be hidden for some reason since you can attack move and hide, or full attack, five footstep and hide, and pull that kind of shit, and it is the fastest way to get it, you can also get some teleportation but it is overall not a great choice.
Bard/Dragon Disciple can be good for a gish, but the hit to your casting will generally hurt more then the benefits that DD gives you.
Elditch Knight is not bad, but it isn't good because the classes you pair it with do not want to generally fight with their standard actions anyways, to do standard attack hybrid you want something like a Magus who can cast and fight at the same time.
>>
>>50805452

Well, grappling and similar combat maneuvers are now handled with the CMB/CMD system, single-class characters are now much more viable than they used to be, you get feats every odd level instead of every three levels, and the only difference between class skills and cross-class skills is that you get a +3 bonus if you put ranks in the former.

>>

>>
>>50805884

>>
>>50805729
I would say it mostly depends on your base class if taking a prestige class is worth it. If you don't have any great class features that scale with level (Wizard, some Clerics, etc.), you might as well take a prestige class. The new feat Prestigious Spellcaster also opens up a lot of possibilities for casters if you can spare the feats.

>3.5
compared to 3.5, PF has a bigger focus on single classed characters, and "attempted" to reign in the many balance issues. PF is supposed to be backwards compatible, but these days, finding a table that allows 3.5 content is significantly rarer than it was 7 years ago.

>5e
Probably a better system for beginners; 3.5 anf PF have an internal philosophy of "Ivory Tower Design", which actively punishes people for not knowing how the whole system works, like Timmy cards in MtG.

Useful links:
Guide to the guides: http://zenithgames.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/the-comprehensive-pathfinder-guides.html
Great way to learn how a particular class functions.

Useful knick-knacks: http://www.geekindustrialcomplex.com/articles
lotta good pdf downloads on that site too.

RUUUUUUULES:
d20pfsrd.com is the unofficial archive of all the rules and classes, pathfinder PRD is the official one.

General advice: Best beginner class for scrubs is probably Ranger, Paladin or Bard; they;re pretty hard to fuck up, and introduces you to all the rules of the game at a reasonable pace. Remember that magic is VERY important at higher levels (like 8th plus); avoid fighters, rogues and monks like the plague. finally, have fun

I want to start using extra encounters to disincentive my players taking their time with everything. They'll go into a dungeon, fight one or two encounters, then leave to rest before coming back later, fully recharged, or always take 20 on every check they can because they don't see a reason not to. I don't like that they feel they can do that without consequences. So if they leave the dungeon to rest, when they come back they'll find that new monsters have settled in or the traps have been reset or whatever. If they take 20 on a check, there's a chance a monster wanders by in those 20 minutes. That's reasonable, right?

But I don't want to hand out EXP for those fights, since those fights are suppose to be the negative trade-off for the PCs' choices. Plus if I did give EXP for them, it might lead to the mindset of trying to grind for EXP.

I figured I could fluff all these extra encounters as enemies summoned by the BBEG specifically to attack the party, since summons are generally understood not to be worth EXP because the ability to summon things is factored into the EXP the summoner is worth. But, I feel like that would seem like I'm exploiting technicalities of the rules to keep the players, especially when the party isn't given a chance to fight the summoner instead of his summons for a very long time. Alternatively, I could tell it like it is and just use any sensible justification for the encounters- party leaves to rest, bear wanders into their camp site at night, not sent by the BBEG it's just a bear. The party doesn't get EXP and I simply tell my players they have to deal with it because it's a trade-off for their earlier choice. It's more transparent and it doesn't require literally justifying all of these fights with "a wizard did it".

So in either case, I'm being a bit of an ass, but in one situation I'm using a technicality of the rules to justify it and in the other I'm not hiding my intention at all. Which of these two options seem more palatable?

>not being A FUCKING LAWYER
>>
Let's just get this slippery question out of the way!

What characters do you "want" to see in Molthune Knights?
>>
>>50807266
That's exactly the same thing as what I'm talking about doing, dressed up in different clothes.

In my situation, what it ultimately comes down to is that I, as the DM, am the arbiter of what is worth EXP and by extension, when the party levels up. I'm just debating whether I should bluntly tell my players as much, or use the game's rules about summons to justify my stance without explaining that this is just a way for me to avoid giving EXP for fights I don't want them to get EXP for (fights that are the party's own fault).

If I just discard EXP and have the party level up based on benchmarks, it's no different than having the party level up from gaining EXP when I'm the one deciding what the get EXP for. In effect, benchmark level is saying encounters are worth 0 EXP but certain events are worth exactly enough EXP to level the party up. Which events? The ones I decide on.

I guess that puts you in the camp of saying I should just bluntly tell my players what the deal is, though. They level up from the things I want them to level up from, instead of leveling up from the things the rule book says they should.
>>
>>50807361
Well obviously any good knight needs a good lady.
>>
>>50807237
Honestly, both of them seem kind of artificial. Why not give them a time limit instead? Something like, "if you don't get to the BBEG by the time for the next full moon, he'll be able to complete a ritual of power and will be much harder to defeat." Or something more abstract: "Yeah, the BBEG captured an entire village. You can probably save at least some of them if you hurry." And in general, a BBEG who just faffs around in his throne room waiting to be defeated isn't much of a BBEG. He should be doing SOMETHING important, and giving him extra time to do it is probably a bad idea.

Even if the time limits are generous, just general awareness that there IS a time limit ought to discourage undue tardiness.

Does Laria count as waifu?
>>
>>50807497

What if I want to make a huge tough guy that just wants to do the right thing even with absolutely zero noble education?
>>
So I have two choices for my character:
>Daring General Cavalier
LOTS of followers. I would bureaucrat the heck out of the lot of them to run my nation/army. The character would grab some Martial Training feats to get a couple of manuvers. Since he is a daring general and gets THREE cohorts they would be spaces out over multiple needed things. One would likely be a Eldritch Scoundrel Rogue, another a Warder, and the third probably a Ranger.
>Sanctioned Spellcaster Witch
Former KGB agent essentially. Would be specialized in information gathering. Also I would work through the implications of being a witch by starting a coven. Witches grow stronger the more witches there are because witches can share spells between familiar at no cost. Witches are incentivized to group up due to both the coven hex and the fact that witches get more spells the more of them there are.
>>
>>50807561

Who's Laria?
>>
>>50807545
The first and biggest issue is reloading, repeaters require two hands to work the crank, so you need a way to reload your crossbows as free actions and free hands to reload them with.
Once you solve that you should be good, really can't recommend it though it looks like it will be bad.

impossible, that's not how mage hand works.
>>
>>50807650
The problem is rather the non-magical, for
>An arcane trickster can use Disable Device and Sleight of Hand at a range of 30 feet. Working at a distance increases the normal skill check DC by 5, and an arcane trickster cannot take 10 on this check. Any object to be manipulated must weigh 5 pounds or less. She can only use this ability if she has at least 1 rank in the skill being used.

Strangely enough it brings up the 5 pound limitation again, but not the non-magical.
>>
So would this effect skills?
>any stalker class features that previously used his Wisdom modifier now use his Intelligence modifier.
>>
>>50807570
Followers tend to slow things the fuck down and everyone's going to have some. I would not recommend it; a full party of everyone-with-NPCs is going to be straining things a bit already.
>>
>>50807832
No, because skills themselves are not actually class features dingus. "Class skills" are just checking a condition related to skills.
>>
>>50807788
Actually, this text doesn't include mage hand at all (though it is a prerequisite for this prestige class), so my assumption is that mage hand is implicit.
Since that text doesn't mention mage hand or a restriction on magical objects...

In a fight, even if he notices it, what would be the difference. Being noticed the problem is usually that he would attack you and try to take it back or that the guards would. Sure, if he catches you he can try to guard against it. But that would and should hamper whatever else he's doing during his turn.
So here I'm asking.

I would like some clarification on this skill. Particularly when it comes to stealing in combat. Since you're not in close range, you'll never get an attack of opportunity, and you wouldn't need any combat maneuvers.

Basically I want to know under which conditions you can use this ability to steal something in combat, or opening some guys belt, or putting a bomb in his pocket.

Found it.
>Against a foe unaware of you (or not attempting to prevent you from touching them), you can loosen a secured item such as a shield or backpack with one DC 20 Sleight of Hand check for each strap or other fastener holding the item in place. Once the item has been loosened, it can be removed with a DC 30 Sleight of Hand check as a full-round action. As normal, you cannot attempt such a Sleight of Hand check against a foe aware of you during combat and a foe can notice your work with a Perception check opposing your Sleight of Hand check (though a successful Perception check doesn’t prevent you from completing that action).

What I don't understand is why an unaware foe would be different than an unaware peddler. Even more so if he's engaged in a combat with someone else.

Also, how does it effect out of combat? Does the item float over to you or is it immediately pocketed?
>>
>>50805343
Yeah, even Paizo just assumes you'll play a catfolk that looks however you want somewhere between cat and human. I think that's for the best.
>>
>>50808481
If you succeed on a DC 25 sleight of hand check as a standard action, you take a small object (weighing less than 5 pounds) from the creature. They can attempt an opposed perception check to notice. That's as far as the rules go.

Circumstance bonuses and "no that's a combat maneuver instead" obviously will come into play, but that's all up to the GM's discretion.
>>
>>50808657
>What I don't understand is why an unaware foe would be different than an unaware peddler
The text specifies AWARE foe. You're going to take notice of someone hostile coming near you and trying to touch you or grab something in the middle of a combat.
>>
>>50808710
I meant the DC 30 on an unaware foe.

As opposed to the DC 20
>If you try to take something from a creature, you must make a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check. The opponent makes a Perception check to detect the attempt, opposed by the Sleight of Hand check result you achieved when you tried to grab the item. An opponent who succeeds on this check notices the attempt, regardless of whether you got the item. You cannot use this skill to take an object from another creature during combat if the creature is aware of your presence.

Pacific Standard Time.

I was hoping it's be 5pm or laster PST so I could duck out of work to play.
>>
>>50809171

I am on the east coast USA. That is why I was confused by the GMT +11

>>50809183

I tried to pick a time that would work best for me and as many people as possible.

>>50809202

I have no idea why it is showing up like that. What timezone are you in?
>>
>>50809198
Seriously, you need to chill.
>>
>>50809224
I'm +10. Australian time zone is a hell of a drug.

Give the Stamina rules from Unchained an actual read if you never tried.
It is actually a very good rule subsystem
>>
If you're holding a glaive, but fire off a spell that turn with one hand; are you still threatening its reach?
>>
>>50809238

You are 15 hours ahead so 9 or 10 AM Thursday or Friday is when the game will be played your time.

Sorry aussie.

Fuuuuck.

I could make it if it ended up on Wednesday. It's landing on the two days I work with free days either side of them.
>>
>>50809247
Personally, I'd be down for a gestalt game that didn't have PoW/SoP, so long as it had the feat tax reductions and used Stamina rules. Would be pretty fun.
>>
>>50809198
No anon, you are the cancer.
>>
>>50809300

I wanted to keep peoples friday nights free. Apply anyways I say
>>
>>50809324
I suppose. I mean worst comes to it, I'll just try to think of it like a thought exercise, same as RotJR.
>>
>>50808759

Now that's just mean! Don't call me names just because I told you the truth, that's what I'm here for! You're being all gleefully optimistic and genki when, while this is absolutely a comfy game, that attitude is a touch too weebish for a campaign set on the Inner Sea!

My advice? She's the genuine article, a proper intelligent tactician that did it because she wants to do something great, something good! She's over-qualified and under-appreciated, likely a Taldan or Chelaxian that got overlooked because her family (God love them) got too much of the wrong sort of reputation - she's highborn yes, but treated little better than a particularly famous cheese vender.

It also provides a sweet contrast to the big guy; she's a high-class woman that knows the minutia of command, while the other guy's a lower-class man that knows what the people really want and need.

Too bad you just get better games by removing gestalt
>>
>>50809468
>this fun is BADWRONGFUN and you should never want to try it for yourself

fuck off
>>
>>50809486
Uh huh sure
The cold fact is that, it makes games horrible to GM
>>
>>50809252
Not at that exact moment, if it matters.

But letting go of your 2-hander, casting your spell, and grabbing the 2-hander again is just two free actions, so you fire a spell and continue threatening the rest of the time - except while casting that spell specifically.

Few mages would ever use those staves otherwise.

You know, like Judy Hopps or Nick Angel!

>>
>>50809600
Of course it is fun to the player
But it is rarely worth the trouble for the GM

Whata if they're playing alone?
>>
>>50809627
I would generally agree with this as a GM, but as long as the GM is willing to take it on no big deal. The thing is when players call a GM shit when he doesn't want to do it. If players merely want it and accept no that the GM doesn't want the issues that come with it then everything is fine.

>>50809640
How autistic would it be to try to play an AP by yourself?
>>
>>50809591
So underemployed cops are the only comfy thing? And QT mage tacticians who want to protect their village can't be?

I have played games by myself when I could not find anyone to run them with. I also go to movies alone and restaurants too. It is all about doing what makes you happy. Even if no one wants to join you.

>>50807545
Ace Bolt Tiefling with Prehensile Tail racial trait. The tail can reload the crossbow, but you still need the Crossbow Mastery feat.
>>
>>50809627
I'm expressing that something would be fun, not demanding a GM use the rules I want. I know someone who GMs far more insane chargen rules and is enjoying themselves. Everyone has different ideas of what constitutes fun.
>>
>>50809627
Alright, that's a fair enough explanation. Remembering who can do what is a nightmare.

Low level party wants to buy magic equipment. Given that selling them a +1 sword would bankrupt them, what are some fun "low impact" items to offer in the 500-1k-1.5k range?

Are consumables the only option? I'd prefer Paizo only but 3pp/homebrew would probably be alright to fill out the roster.
