How does one do Spaceborn Life properly?

Depends on the setting?
What kind of space habitat is it?
Is it a satellite of a major planet?
Is it a satellite around a star without a habitable planet nearby?
Is it a vagabond spaceship traveling at FTL speeds from port to port?
Is it a realistic spaceship on a lonely journey through the emptiness of space?

EVA hand signals-but only in an EVA suit or an open environment. Otherwise no hand gestures whatsoever.

Agoraphobic. Wide open space means either vacuum, or a space that can't be escaped from quickly if a breach happens. Unless you're in a body that's rated for vacuum, then it's alright.

To be honest, if humanity ever got to the point of living in space ships, it's almost certain that everything would have dozens of layers of automation and failsafes.

You'd probably be running ecosystems in space, rather than obsessing over filters.
