Griffith did everything wrong, the minute he fought guts he made countless retarded mistakes that just piled up to a fucking mountain by the time he did pretty much wrote the definition of "did something wrong". Black Knight 2000 was a sequel to Black Knight, which was the first fully electronic pinball machine.
It was designed by Steve Ritchie, who also gave the Black Knight his voice. (Knowing the guy who designed the table is the one saying "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!" cracks me up)
Ritchie's tables are prized by pinball fans. They flow very well, with an emphasis on loops and such, but are also really damned hard, which is nice if you're going to shell out for a pinball table, since it'll take a while before you're as good as the guy in that youtube vid upthread.

It's a Black Knight from Dark Souls. These fuckers are around 2.5 meters tall and hit like trucks.

Their story is that they served the Gwyn, the Lord of Sunlight, as Silver Knights in a war against the Everlasting Dragons. Once the war was won, they were basically the royal guards. Then the world's Flame started to fade and everyone panicked because the Flame was where the Lords got their power, and because as the Flame faded, tons of people started turning Undead, and so the Witch of Izalith tried to bolster it with her pyromancy, but instead spawned untold demon horrors. Gwyn then dedicated a special group of Silver Knights to wield bigger, heavier weapons and armor with fire-protective engravings on it, and sent them to kill the demons with their special big demon-killing weapons. Unfortunately, the Witch fucked up so royally that the Demons kept coming and the Lords kept losing their power because the Flame was still fading, so Gwyn made a sacrifice by burning his fucking soul in the Flame after fighting through hordes of demons with his Knights. Fortunately, it worked, and the Flame was bolstered for millennia. Unfortunately, the resulting explosion incinerated his faithful Knights immediately and all of them turned to ash. But because the world is a shitty place they didn't get to die and their blackened demon-hunting armor came to life with their anguished spirits and walked the land ever-after.

The whole point of the story is that they both did things wrong.

Gut's obsessive need to prove himself the equal and friend of Griffith combined with Griffith never being straightforward with his feelings(and having his own meddling asshole nature fuck him) meant that both of them, despite being the closest companions they could possibly be, understood their relationship in vastly different ways, which eventually tore them apart.

It's supposed to evoke the idea of tragedy, that these two great men who had the world at their fingertips ended up throwing it all away over a misunderstanding.

Guts isn't obsessive though. He just doesn't want to be shackled to Griffith. Guts is really chill about the whole thing and wants his own dream so he and Griffith can be on the same level; it's made clear at multiple points he had NO IDEA Griffith was such an obsessive weirdo.
