So I just discovered this exists, there is an RPG based off Leverage. The prime time NBC drama about con artists that ran from 2008 to 2012. It's supposed to be pretty good as well.

I still can't believe this exists. Are there any other professionally published licensed RPGs out based off none nerd stuff?

I've got it. It's not so bad but It needed more work.
I can't remember any similar game.
There was a firefly one with the same system tho.

Yeah cortex or something. Same one Battlestar is based off, but of course science-fiction franchises get our RPGs.

Having never seen the show, can we get an idea of what this Leverage RPG is supposed to be about?

It's exactly the same is the TV show. Which is a typical NBC affair. It's pretty much the archetypal 'show your dad like'
To quote Wikipedia.

A five-person team: a thief, a grifter, a hacker, and a retrieval specialist, led by former insurance investigator Nathan Ford, who use their skills to fight corporate and governmental injustices inflicted on ordinary citizens.

The game runs the same. The player play a specialist while the GM introduce a corrupt bad guy they have to get that at by pulling of sort of heist or con job to expose him or reimbursed the victim. There's a plot twist and a complication and the players a 'but we really planned for this back when' moment as see in oceans 11.

Translates fairly well to a RPG but just odd choice of source material. No real overlap for the usual RPG crowd at all.

One of the creators of the show is a big nerd
Also created Jackie Chan Adventures
And the tv series version of the Librarians which I have never seen

The showrunner wrote a crime based world for the original FATE Core kickstarter, in the Worlds in Shadow collection.
I liked the show. An ensemble of criminal types trying to look out for the little guy is basically every adventuring party I've been a part of.

Yeah, most of them move pretty quickly to chaotic good, except Parker because she has the autisms

>non-nerd stuff?
There's nothing so obscure some nerd won't obsess over it.

I was surprised someone (Eden Studios?) released a Red Dwarf RPG a many years after it was over.

As I said, here >>50723063 I liked the show and the characters. I'd probably recommend the british show Hustle as better mainstream entertainment, but despite being goofier, as a gamer I probably prefer Leverage.
They got screwed a couple times with late pickups, budget cuts and Timothy Hutton's "acting" but it was a fun show.

Game-wise the flashback mechanic, as seen in the show and modelled in game, really speaks to my own preferences as a gamer. I spent hours at gametables discussing minutiae of plans that were screwed long before we ever made our first roll. If planning is never really going to work at the table, might as well just gloss over the specifics until it's dramatically appropriate.

Forgot to add, Parker's mentor sort of served as a bridging point between Leverage and Hustle as he guested in both series and could have been the same character if you squinted a little, in Leverage as Parker's gentleman thief mentor and poor substitute father figure in Leverage, and as an American grifter in Hustle.

The RPG is pretty good if you want to run any sort of specialist-team-pulls-off-a-heist/con game, like a Mission: Impossible style spy thing. Feints, cons, double-crosses, and breaking into places.

The only thing that bugged me in the game was its insistence of "no guns" rule. Yes, it fit that show, and there were good reasons why a bunch of professional thieves wouldn't just blast some fools, but it even glossed over the bad guys using deadly force which was a bit stupid.
>>
Yes, the whole tv show its an "A team" without weapons, as there is even a member who is an expert in hand to hand combat
>>
>>50723557
>"no guns" rule.
I didn't like that in either the show or the RPG. It turn what should be a cool, realistic espionage/crime show into a saturday morning kids' cartoon.

I loved the show. It filled that semi cheesey bad guys doing good hole in my heart. Ive looked over the rpg book but havent done anything with it.
