It's to reduce MAD for me, because unfortunately most point buy (or even rolling systems) don't let you have high numbers in every area.

Its for RotJR
>>
>>50709307
Because autism, no, really, the whole problem with you being able to jump farther than your speed is because "well duh, then you'll use jump as a way of movement!" which already happens when you have flight.

Also takes less resources to rise land speed than to rise jump a meaningful distance.
>>
>>50709577
>Can someone give me good primer on the Shoanti?

They're the warrior caste of the Thassilonian Empire left to fend for themselves for a couple thousand years, they're shamelessly Native American in flavor but in appearance they're some mutt combination of Varisian, Ulfen and Kellid.

They've got a lot of bad blood with their neighbors to the South, notably Korvosa - they get along just fine with the native Varisians.

Oh god, I can believe it, especially since Paizo was still a young company and didn't have the clout they do now among artists.

It *really* fucked up the way I perceived the setting, too. When all your artwork is pulp comic or even cartoonish in style, that tends to fuck up the tone you assign to that setting.

For what I know many artist can't stand James Jacobs because the guy doesn't have any fucking idea of theory of aesthetics or history of art. This is proven by his devotion of Reynold's art to which he even fanboys front of other artists.
Also, if you are an artist and you have the disgrace of work in the art for an AP in which one of Jacobs' characters appear be ready to be commissioned for extra official lewd art.

Wayne Reynolds tries *very* hard, but oh my god do I hate his art style. It doesn't fit a setting like Golarion at all, and I wager that's one of the many reasons I had trouble immersing myself into the world until way later.

His artwork is detailed, but *ugly*, it presents a world-view that's vaguely cartoonish and comic-book when it's obvious from the landscape artwork or heck, stuff from Crimson Throne that they were clearly going for a more "realistic" (in comparison) aesthetic, I mean god damn imaging if the art was drawn in the same vein as the stuff from CotCT or Inner Sea Races!
>>

I understand what you mean, but none of those are such big negative aspects to me.
His use of color, his excess, they are all the reasons I love his work.
It drops all that clean pretense lot of old fantasy art has, and is more guttural, more visceral, tactile.

No, it is to skills that are not Wis or cha based, it has no baring on them, would a feat that gives +4 to all charisma based skills give an unfair advantage to charisma over wisdom? No, infact the opposite it allows you to make higher checks with less investment, it devalues the stat in question.

So i want this Shoanti to have made the a vow on the spirits of her dead tribe to kill and eat one of every creature under the sun to prove that her tribe can be strong and prosperous, even when she's the last member.

What sort of revelation would spark this kind of vow? "The Strong eat the Weak?", "the best way to prove that you're stronger than your foe is to eat them?"

I have a general idea here, but i'm having trouble fleshing it out. into actual paragraphs.

You're having trouble because it's a flawed concept from the onset; flesh-eating in tribal societies is seen as either an incredible honor (absorbing your kin's strength and memory) or an act of total domination to your foes (eating their flesh to gain their powers.) What you've made is a character built entirely around what is meant to be a sacred, special thing, a thing your character would do in some dark and dismal night after slaying a major BBEG or after losing a beloved PC.

So she is a goddess of mercy and redemption. But she even before the accident she was known for going full executioner on you if you in the end forsake her promise of mercy.

What happened there was her merely snapping like usual, but in unprecedented scale. And it probably shocked the goddess too, when she finally came down from her fit of anger.

She simply sees it as an avenue of gaining more strength and power. "You lost to me, and thus you must give your strength to me." And while it's worked to a great degree for her, its a corrupted and evil thing.

Okay, so she knows enough about the magic behind eating her enemies... But doesn't understand the context nor significance behind surface-level knowledge that it gives her power? How did she even get such a warped and twisted view of such a sacred thing without anyone correcting her? Either she's monstrous and doesn't care, or she's a genuine cannibal that loves the taste of humanoid meat sliding deep down her throat, and observers brave enough (or mad enough) to stick around told her the cultural importance of flesh eating.

This is a woman that's going to either reveal her monstrous nature or have a huge crisis of self when a genuine Shoanti tells her how wrong she is in this activity, and let's not forget the mayor of Sandpoint is a Shoanti. What she's doing is WRONG.

If you are int based you can spend that feat much better, it is a skill that is much better for a cha or wis based character who has lower int, a level one int based character would have 9 for putting one point into an int based skill assuming they start with 20 int, a Wis based with 12 int would have 5, the feat boosts the int based to 13, you were already making those int checks with a 9, the Wis based goes to 9 which is a huge boost from 5 and will show a noticeable difference.

Well she learned that it was a thing when she was three, her tribe was killed when she was 4. And she started experimenting with it immedately afterwords.

She gets picked up by Shalelu after The girl is found spit roasting three or four goblins that had been attacking caravans at the age of seven.

By the time of the game start, she's 19.

In addition she views that the "Eating of Strength" also applies to animals, So she also goes after wildlife. Especially dangerous wild life, like bears.

6th casters are my jam, and Vigilante is baller as fuck. The only time I really even pay attention to full BaB or fullcasters is when theorycrafting gestalts, or doing super niche shit. Had the Ravener Inquisitor been out when I made that Oracle, I probably would have just begged my GM to let me make it entirely Cha-based and played that instead of an Oracle.

I also have like, 5 Magi in the pipe, none of which I have gotten to play because either

Amalthea is way too single-minded about getting the good stuff in her oven, doesn't she know anything about luring the man in? If she's already pregnant or knows the man will be up for another round later that week or even later that day, there's no reason she shouldn't know a thing or two about finishing them with the rest of her body.

Plus, Onryou's Oni-blood probably flares to life in moments of passion, which means she'd be an innocent virgin up until the foreplay starts, and then it's time to grab her horns and give it to her.

I'm just starting to get into PoW, can somebody explain what discipline weapons are about? As far as I can tell you don't need to use a discipline weapon to initiate a strike and don't gain any bonuses for using a discipline weapon.
>>
>>50710739
Because she's supposed to be the ultra-hyper-stereotypically good goddess. Every setting has one and it funny if you can find legitimate reason to kill them.
>>
>>50710791
Using a discipline weapon boosts the save DCs of your strikes by 2, and some disciplines, like Broken Blade, Solar Wind, and Piercing Thunder, need you to be using the weapon to work.
>>
>>50710593

Anon, I get the feeling people are kind of annoyed by your characters because they're way too laser-focused on their kink, or at least with how you talk about them.

Like, I WANT to like Amalthea, I WANT to like Onryou, heck I even want to like this new girl. They've got neat concepts beneath the kink, and yet besides Onryou the kink smudges up the concept way too much.

Vessel for godliness? Sounds cool, and her being hyper-voluptuous fits the theme. But now she's about getting stuffed all the time and only taking it in ways that might knock her up and - okay we get it, she's a fertility character, every woman likes a little finishing inside but she'd know that she needs to snare her man with more than just a tight babymaker.

Same with this new girl, she eats people and is huge, but whenever we try to expand her perception on it or how to make her only do it against appropriate foes you just try to bend it back to how she eats everyone, all the time, because power.
>>
>>50710785
Not the anon you were responding to. That's pretty much the Iron Bull's mindset too. He's good at fighting and lying, in that order, and he's proud of both. Hey Jolly, now that I think about it, how did the Anima Blade's automatic scaling interact with the Mercurial Duelist's ability to add enhancement bonuses and such to their heirloom weapon? Unless that talent got canned in a later iteration, it's not really clear how you'd price it. Did you treat the Anima's scaling +1's as a floating bonus that's added after the fact, then pay the cost of upgrading as though it were an unenhanced masterwork weapon?

Like
>Your Anima is a +1 weapon, but you never enhanced it with your Ancestral Weapon feature
>you sit down and pay 8000 gp in order to add +1 and Keen to your Anima blade
>the anima blade's scaling +1 is not counted, and is added after the fact
>you now have a +2 Keen Anima Blade
>>

I forgot to add the point of this post, a problem with phoneposting at work perhaps, but you need to take the thing that makes your character lewd and just... Put it in a corner while you do the rest of the character. You did this for Onryou and we love her for it, why? Because she's a badass dojo-buster that loves to cook and oh yeah, she happens to have firm H-cups and an adorably virginal outlook on sex.

Do that for Amalthea and this people eater, and I guarantee the perceptions of them will improve.

>>
>>50710867
There are some more details about it, like how Piercing Thunder works with Polearms and how there's a feat that allows you to use Solar Wind boosts (normally reserved for ranged weapons) with Mithral Current strikes, but the basics are that most disciplines get a bonus for using a discipline weapon, some require you to use one.

Okay, hold onto your butts because this might get a little lackadaisical.

>Amalthea is born unto a Shoanti tribe
>Lovely girl, a bit impulsive and dim but strong as an ox, and an early bloomer too
>Sets out on her Rite of Adulthood, either this is when something freaky happens to her or it's immediately afterwards, when she's married to the Chieftain's son
>This also means she gets tattoos, which are crazy-hot if they're in the right places
>Five years later, she's still childless, everyone suspects treachery and the pair quietly separate
>Amalthea leaves the tribe, gradually becoming more and more haunted by dreams of Places of Power and desires to lay with men near them
>So begins a long string of husbands, boyfriends and lovers whom she fuggs near places she visits in her dreams, yet she never gets pregnant and the men shortly thereafter die
>She gets a reputation
>Nevertheless, she finds love in the arms of a man she truly cares about
>She visits a medicine woman, who explains that her womb was blessed by the gods as a nexus for mighty souls, but mighty souls need mighty seed laid within her at locations engulfed with divine energy (aka, she needs to fuck a noble-blooded man near a Place of Power to actually get pregnant)
>The medicine woman suggests she try brute forcing it, taking aphrodisiacs and praying to Lamashtu, the Great Mother, for aid
>Worst mistake of her life
>She gets pregnant, but the thing inside her comes out malformed and twisted, her husband leaves her and she is regarded as cursed
>Just as worse, she gets wracked by dreams of Lamashtan holy sites near a tiny town on the Lost Coast
>She is compelled to go to them, but the rare good dream says she will find her true love in that town, someone to give her the sons and daughters she now so desperately craves

The idea is to make her a Plaything of the Gods, someone with a very specific purpose in life but no idea as to what that purpose is.

Basically, the phrase I think of when I want to think of her is "Gods are Bound by Rules, too." She can't just have gods with ANYONE, she needs to do it the *right* way, and since she's an Oracle and not a Cleric she has no way of contacting the powers-that-be to learn exactly what the fuck she needs to do to actually have children.

Another, far less sexual thing I'm trying to go for is Amalthea attempting to subvert her destiny, even if it ends in failure; she prays to Lamashtu to break the Rules, and unfortunately when you break the rules you tend to get punished or consumed by the powers that exist beyond the rules. She would feel a focus of power for Lamashtu in Sandpoint, one that if she destroys she has a chance to break free of Lamashtu's grip on her person... Only issue, when that happens she's back at Square One; find a nobleman and fall in love with him (which would be aided by divine help.)

Fortunately, it sounds like she's really gunning hard for Casimir, and he is a nobleman.

THere's a few things here that i could really use. Such as the haunting of places of power and the "Black Widow" thing is already in place as every husband she's ever had has had a terrible fate befall them.

>Except maybe her husband on Hermea, but after she was exiled there's no information about him. Probably got roasted or something.

Let me respond with that with a question; what does Amalthea get for being from Hermea? A genetically perfect body? She could get that from being Shoanti, and the Shoanti are far more prone to getting accidentally stuffed with divine magic from the many powerful places they have throughout their lands.

And as I said, those tattoos are hardcore.

>However the last time i suggested Lamastu, People hated Amalthea even worse than they hate her now. So, with respect, i'm going to ignore that.

People hated Lamashtu because you said she was picked up by a cult and used as the cocksleeve of a couple monsters until she squirted out an abomination. This features the far more common, and far more insidious, method Lamashtu uses to corrupt people; she promises easy pregnancies and easy births, but in the process you only birth mistakes. This Lamashtan connection not only gives her a reason to go to Sandpoint, it gives her a reason to stop Nualia, as it means she's now free of Lamashtu's curse.
>>
>>50712205

>>
>>50712140
>>50712210

Also, your Black Widow title is not really emphasized enough in her backstory; you want me to actually feel like she's a Black Widow? Spend a paragraph describing how she spent 10 years trying and failing to find a stable life with someone by her side, and how this made her more desperate and more lonely until she did the unthinkable; contacting the Mother of Monsters for aid.
>>
>>50712128
DHB does. We might actually get him to commit suicide.

Also she's ethnically Kellid, Her father was inducted into the Glorious Endeavor to add to the gene pool, And her father beseeched spirits of his tribe to grant his line "The Strength of the Divine". So the Mystical connection was from that. I was hoping i could get some tie into that when the party travels over the Crown of the World.

They hated the Lamastu connection even when i said they just captured her and escaped before they could do anything. Sorry i'm not putting that in there.

>>50712270

But it is good design because it enforces the fluff behind the decision.
Paladins are inhuman. A cleric is a servant, subservient to higher power. He is still a fellow man to you, he is afraid, he gets sick, he is afflicted by things that ask for saves. Paladin is not. Something has caused the paladin to ascend to a new level. The paladin still acts, talks, behaves human, but he is lacking that weakness we find human.

But even with this, you cannot help but be drawn to him. Why? Because the power of his alignment. He is, naturally, a beacon of hope. He helps other out of genuine compassion. You, a being of weaker alignment, are drawn to this creature of pure alignment. Paladin is tapping to power that is not gods, but the power gods themselves to tap directly. Hell, high level paladins are outsiders.

I personally want this kind of idea preserved. Some classes should be very tight packages and not just class abilities to be picked at leisure.

>They hated the Lamastu connection even when i said they just captured her and escaped before they could do anything. Sorry i'm not putting that in there.

No offense, but that's entirely due to you emphasizing the risk of monster dick smashing into her when I'm fairly sure everyone here would be fine with her just contacting the Mother of Monsters for babymaking help - which is the most common reason people go to her, mind you! As I said before, it gives her a reason to be in Sandpoint and a legitimate interest in the plot of Book 1.

>+2 initiative score.

Outlander (Exile) is a trait exclusive to Rise of the Runelords and it also gives you a +2 Initiative Score, it's literally the same thing.

>So the Mystical connection was from that. I was hoping i could get some tie into that when the party travels over the Crown of the World.

Fair enough, I'm saying the mystical connection could also be from being near a Place of Power when she had her first menstrual cycle or something equally fitting. I'm emphasizing the Shoanti because they're simply more common in Varisia and doing the Hermean route is a LITTLE bit more awkward. Sure, keep the Hermean connection if you really want it, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

>Instead of one just run off when he found out she was pregnant, one dieing, and one we don't know about.

Indeed, emphasize how all of them met grisly deaths as soon as they pumped their seed in your woman - heck, I'd suggest giving her TWENTY former lovers, if not more. She's a very, very lovely woman with an eager need to be with someone, she should be burning through men until the men simply aren't coming anymore.

For healing purposes nothing really comes to mind. If you play Black-Blooded or have something else that allows negative energy to heal you then Antipaladin sorta helps (though unless your DM approves you can't use Hand of Corruption to swift-heal yourself). But that would make yourself vulnerable to positive energy then so it's hardly a proper equivalent. There aren't really any other Charisma casters that excel at healing. I know some people mix/match Warpriest and Shaman (or some other WIS caster like Druid or Cleric) for a pseudo-Oradin, but it's not quite the same.

See, the thing about that is there's already shit that steals mechanics from Paladin, and Pathfinder's only saving grace anymore is >options. Paladin itself already has ways to lighten the alignment restriction, even if those archetypes are total dogshit that gut the class down to barely being paladins. It's less "this class shouldn't have a restriction" at this point, and more "there should options". Chosen One would have been a good way to have an archetype that's outside the norm for Paladins, because its fluff is literally "some shmuck got picked as a champion of good".

Hell, its inverse class isn't even restricted by alignment anymore, because Tyrant and Insinuator are both about as good as base Antipaladin.

This brings up the question, how does one define 'youngest'?

Closeness to grave, or nearest to minimum age?

Also, taking into account age after venerable, spider is 21%, goblin is 28%

Do Orks even feel pain in large numbers? The only time an Ork has fear is when they're either alone or up against a truly unstoppable foe.

They're hooligans, and that means being fearless around your mates.
>>
>>50712686
Just because your a hero doesn't mean you have to run in like some idiot. Sometimes you need to play smart.
>>
>>50712740
Orks also fear Yarrick, you forgot that one, though I guess technically he counts as unstoppable because they think he is.
>>
>>50712686
Yes, they were saying the fact that there was danger took away their agency.

I mean the anti-paladin did end up killing both of them after they resolved to run in anyway.

As many as you have access to. In practice, it's better to stick to two or three, because higher level maneuvers and stances tend to require a certain number of maneuvers known from that discipline.

Actually, Evil does inspire his lessers. But through the opposite.
Good predicates cooperation while Evil predication competition.
Being helped by others makes you want to help others. But on the flipside, being constantly abused by everyone also makes you take that behavior too.

You have a big Antipaladin. People fear him because he is Evil. People also admire him because they want to one day be strong enough to beat him and take his place.

>>50712624
But I see that as internal. Paladins cannot actually fail fear saves intentionally since immunity stops that. Externally people see fearless person, even if he has fear internally.

>>50712634
Well I like that the Grey Paladin is weaker than normal Paladin because that makes sense fluff wise. He sacrifices his power for more flexibility in the social game.

Also that options problem goes deeper than just Paladin. Pathfinder is in weird position, it is like if MTG was forever stuck in legacy format. Paizo could EASILY write better rules if they were not so comfortable just writing new rules on top of new rules, none of them that well connected to each other.

Parents or upbringing. Say she was raised in an observatory that served as one of Desna's temples. She couldn't stand the idea of being cooked up staring at the stars all day, so left to explore the world herself.

She has no interest in praying,

I don't think Chaotic gods are big on requiring prayers anyway
So what if gods approach your character in her dreams?

You can help people for selfish reasons, you know. Whether it's for appearance or for some greater purpose, you can help others and not be a good person. And while it's true an Antipaladin can "help" by blasting and bashing, a Paladin can do that as well on top of healing to boot.

>sacrifices power for flexibility

But Grey Paladin doesn't sacrifice power to get flexibility. He is straight up worse than a normal paladin in all aspects besides "he gets to put NG or LN on his sheet". It is a terrible archetype that does not even do what it is advertised as doing.

The "LG warrior" schtick is cool and I agree that a player should get rewarded for sticking with it, but it's not good to punish a player for wanting something slightly different. You cannot get a similar "Charismatic Holy Warrior Guy" class for other good alignments without really stretching. In 3.5e there were variant Paladins, of which Paladin of Freedom was one, and "basically Antipaladin" was another. PF has not ported the former for mysterious reasons, though I recall one anon saying that JJ's response as to why boiled down to "I don't like Lawful things, including Paladins".
>>
So I'm a Mythic Champion Daring General Cavalier.

I'm level 13/mythic rank 4 and have mythic leadership. My GM ruled being mythic counts as a special power. I have a castle to house my men. Plus I am a noble, so it counts as Great Renown. I also have the Crusader mythic ability.

My total Leadership score is 27.

I have 3x the normal amount of followers and 2 cohorts.

I have:
405 level 1s
39 level 2s
21 level 3s
12 level 4s
6 level 5s
6 level 6s

2/3rds of these followers have to be warriors.

So is this enough to have a mercenary company. With my cohorts we have a total of 492 individuals.
>>
>>50712839
That is open to interceptions.
It also scales with your character level.
Not being afraid of something at lvl 3?
Pretty brave, but still human.
Facing down cosmic horrors near max level?
Staring down a pit fiend?
Much more impressive.
>>
>>50712899
Nobles usually aren't leading mercenary companies. Those sound more like retinues rather than mercenaries.
>>
>>50712900
Basically yeah.

It doesn't NECESSARILY mean that he acts all inhuman and such regarding it, it's up to the player.
>>
>>50712893
Helping others and benefiting from it falls into neutral behavior.
What moves the soul is self-sacrifice. Paladin gets hurt and singed to save you. That makes an impression.

>>50712897
Gets to put NG and LN to his sheet is exactly the flexibility I was talking about.

Also I found that Warpriest is good enough for making holy warriors for other alignments. Sure, you do not get the same amount of pure power as Paladin, but I found sacred weapon and the blessings have enough options to make a lot of holy warriors.
>>
>>50712899
Also the non-warriors I am thinking are majority going to be experts and adepts. Essentially the support for the actual combatants.

At 6th level the adepts now have access to 2nd level spells.

So it's 4 level 6 warriors, 1 level 6 expert (the quartermaster), and 1 level 6 adept (head physician).

My two cohorts are a Ranger and a Bloodrager.
>>
So I was looking into building an Inquisitor and I stumbled upon the Hexenhammer. Witch being my favorite class I was really interested, but it also doesn't seem particularly good.

Do you think I could still make a decent character with this archetype?
>>
>>50712969
If you want a flexible Paladin play an Inquisitor
>>
>>50712958
I am in an odd position as a mercenary. I occupy a "non-landed" title. I have properties that exist in another noble's lands that are inherited. In this case it is namely the rights to major docks in a port city and the canning industry there.

However the castle I have is essentially rented from another noble as he owns the land. My character spends most of his time in travel as he does not need to spend enormous amounts of time at home (he leaves the handling of the properties to a younger sister). He leads his men abroad to bring back fortune and fame for his family.

So I'm more paramilitary?
>>
>>50712994
Another good one.
Paizo did really good job with the divine classes, there is a nice variety of them now.
>>
>>50712974
The question I have is should I change my ranger companion to an Avenger Vigilante, as he qualifies for being a full BaB class?
>>
>>50712969
> Helping others and benefiting from it falls into neutral behavior.
That doesn't mean evil characters can't do it.

> What moves the soul is self-sacrifice. Paladin gets hurt and singed to save you. That makes an impression
That's nice and all but I'm not seeing how that justifies paladins being LG-only.
>>
>>50712994
What if you want to play a Paladin for the class abilities and just don't want to be LG? And don't go suggesting archetypes, because we all know they severely nerf those abilities in the process.
>>
>>50713035
I am not trying to justify classic paladin.
You either want it go or you like it, it is a question of opinion.

Also extreme alignment characters should not do too many neutral actions.

that is not good design

>>50712969
>>50712994
>say that Paladin's schtick of "charismatic full BaB holy warrior" being restricted is dumb
>told to just be a Warpriest or an Inquisitor to "give up power for flexible alignment"
>implying I would be giving up power if I went either of those classes

Being Wis-based and 6th casters is inherently better than Paladin.

Also
>implying self-sacrifice is a purely lawful act
>>
>>50713008
I suppose it depends on your interpretation and the setting. What kind of enemies are you fighting? Are you loyal to a sovereign, despite your title being honorary? "Paramilitary" wasn't exactly a thing in the feudal system. A lord could very much do what you're doing exactly, using his men as glorified mercenaries, but the moment your Sovereign calls you, you would need to send him your men to fight for him. That's how it would usually work, anyway, so the term 'Retinue' still works. It only means 'One who work for someone with a high rank', in context.

Just trying to give you another perspective on the matter, but I do like the idea of a mercenary company.

>>
>>50713092
That it's actually pretty easy to play a LG Paladin in a NG fashion. It all depends on how you roleplay.
>>
>>50713073
>Have you read Sacred Servant?
Yeah, and if you read it you'd realize it affects the alignment of the deity, not the paladin.
>>
>>50712969
>Helping and benefiting is neutral

Only if the benefit was the only reason you did it. You can help, get paid, AND feel good about having helped people.
>>
>>50713114
That doesn't help people like >>50712021 and >>50712136
>>
>>50713114
I didn't say you couldn't but the problem is people will see "Paladin" and immediately jump to conclusions. It requires just as much group buy-in to do Paladin well as it does to do an Evil group and not fall apart.

>>50713141
