Don't the Outrider Blackshields do that? All infantry units have deepstrike or something.

It's 175 points more than a fellblade for less HP and less fire power all for transport capacity and 2 void shields.

Yes, an ambush on Sons of Horus if Im not mistaken.
>>
>>50671622
Bitz sites if you're looking for just those. Also ask around your local community, people will prob be okay parting with something like that for free.
If you have 30K/40K bits to stick on to a stick, you can use any polearm weapon with the blade cut off, as in, anything from any model range, not necessarily GW.
If you want actual cheap GW sets, I used a Dark Angel box, I think it was a veteran squad? for a looaaad of bits, it was £15 from the shop as it was old, but it came with 3 banners and a lot of stuff that could have the DA iconography clipped off. There's probably better boxes than that, go take a look in your local shop, I wanted that one as it had robe-y bits as well.
>>
>>50671761
Doesn't make much sense. These guys are doomed, completely cut off and will slowly die one by one. Seem a bit jovial for that. And Who are they taking the pic for anyway? Nobody will see it.
>>
>>50672024
Defiance until the end. And dying one by one sounds great considering the scale of the betrayal, which could account for how the EC lost that many on Istvaan III.
I mean, most people die one by one.
You know a way to make people die all at once? Exterminatus. These guys survived it.
>>
>>50672024
>Seem a bit jovial for that.
The prevailing theme of loyalists in the heresy is "things are shit, don't care, I am so happy I am killing these traitor fucks"
>>
>you don't know what squad is in which transport until you open it up or they disembark

Would you guys be willing to play like this for shits and giggles?

Seems like it could be extra hilarious if you purposely hide dangerous stuff in certain Rhinos and try to mindgame the opponent as to which Rhino they need to prioritize.

What do you think of Justaerin?
Personally I don't think they should have 2W: Horus' sons are 2W but the Gorgon's all-metal children aren't?

>>
>>50670891
Hey /hhg/!

I've been playing 40k for a while and I'm starting to tire of the imbalance and general annoyances of the meta, so with a fearful wallet I've decided I want to get into the Horus Heresy. Not go all out, but working on the side seems like a fun time, especially since the models are top notch.

I think I want to do Iron Hands (if that's a bad idea for waacfag/asshole reasons please tell), and I'm working towards a 2,500 list.

What's in it right now is mostly stuff I've got plus what seems cool, but if you could guide towards a fun and fluffy list that'd be ideal.

>2 Units of Cataphractii Terminators
>Techmarine Covenant
>2 Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnoghts
>2 Tactical Squads
>2 Sicarian Battle Tanks
>Leviathan Dreadnought
>2 Vindicators

That all sits at 1,855 points, and gives me some room for upgrades and add ons. I was thinking about some Jetbikes and maybe some Support/Assault Squads, is that a good idea?
>>
>>50672385
Do the Iron Hands have those risen dudes as a unit option yet? The cyborg undead dudes. I would be totally cool with them getting 2 wounds, or a rule like the old Death Company one where they have 1 real wound and 1 temporary one for VP purposes.

>>50672313

>>
>>50672437
IH sadly have rules limiting taking bike, jetbike, jump and skimmer units. Everything you've mentioned are solid choices, although like myself, there's more heavy support units listed than are normally fieldable.
>>
>>50672490
yeh
>>
>>50672437
You'll need and HQ and sicarans can't squadron so you have 4/3 available HS options. But those are solid choices.

You'll need a transport for your termis. Drop a sicaran and grab a land raider. Throw in a beefy HQ, a pod for the leviathan and you should just about be at 2.5k points, which is the baseline for 30k.

Should I paint the trim on the armour plates on the mk3 boys?

I worry about it being way, way too gold by the end of it. Especially in a legion that doesn't like ornanmentation. Plus it adds alot more time to basecoat each marine.

My worry is they'll look way, way too fancy next to my mk 4 squads (pictured on the right)

>Riding the ironfire with WE in a shattered legions force

Thoughts on this? Since you'll be bumrushing your WE towards close combat they'll be able to act as "spotters" for the IW artillery
>>
>>50673127
Spotters, or do the IW just attach a locator to them and bomb them on the assumption that give them five minutes and they'll be chopping at the enemy?
>>
>>50673127
It's probably the best way of using the Ironfire. Combined with Surlak's Inductii it can go nice. Golg could bring WE Legion termie squads as troops.
I'll never understand why he's not a Warsmith if he was named as one of the Trident.

Have...er, rage World Eater

>>50673217
I hadn't thought of Golg. I suppose he'd be good as he has a nuncio-vox

I could be going about this the wrong way... What about IF sniper vets and WE weapon master vets in a sacred duty ROW? An attractive bit of riding the ironfire is the fearless bit which stops my WE running away but I could take inductii to get around this....
So many cool combinations I'm really loving the HH
>>

From reading his fluff the impression I got from him is that he was powerful and ruthless, but kind of a dumbass. He's kind of like the archetypal strongman henchman for Perturabo. He'll let Golg loose on things that require a lot of force without a lot of thinking or precision, but he's not trusting him with strategy.

>>
>>50674587
depends. For legions based around stacking buffs in a friendly meta, sure. For anon and his interceptor ordo reductor doomhammer or whatever other bullshit, probably not.
>>
>>50674516
it's boring, but double TL autocannon makes for a decent anti-air contemptor-mortis. the double kheres is cool and all, but 24 inches isn't a lot of inches for actually intercepting anything. that said, you can just spend a few more points for a deredeo and get the same thing but +1S.

desu I'd probably just make another fist/chainfist dread and run it either as a cortus or a normal, possibly with double grav but maybe something else, idk. stuff like melee dreads tend to work better when you have a few of them so they can't get away

I asked the other day, but didn't get any responses. I'm the new EC player that has been floating around recently, and I've been considering getting the Dark Angels Battleforce for some fast attack options and wing-flavored gubbinz to scatter across my pieces. By the looks of it, a decent of the accessories I can trim to remove DA specific iconography off (i.e. swords and hoods), and simply not use the few pieces that are too extensive. Does this sound like a decent idea?

Enjoy your illegal squad once FW gives PA marks their own rules and squads must be homogeneous, because fuck you and Your Dudes.

Personally, I'd reserve mixed armour squads for remnant squads or armies that have fought a long time without proper support. Situations where the minute differences in logistics and performances are overshadowed by the need for boots on the ground.

In a more optimal situation you'd want squads to have fairly homogeneous equipment, since it ensures performance and eases logistics. No need to send 5 types of bolter ammo and PA parts to a squad when they only use one type of each.

All bolters should have the same calibre of ammo. First because STC, second because having bolters that need different ammo would have been a logistical nightmare of unimaginable horror even with squads needing the same, and last because the phobos having the same size rounds as heavy bolters is just retarded.

Got any evidence that bolters are an STC design? They originated on Terra. Why would Terra use something designed for colonies. Like hospital doing surgery with a first aid kit.

>second because having bolters that need different ammo would have been a logistical nightmare of unimaginable horror

Third, it was an era of military development spanning centuries. You want to adapt and use the weapon best suited for you. Even today a military can have several calibers from 9mm to .45, 5.56, 7.62, etc. they all serve different purposes. Yes, it can be a logistical nightmare when everything goes to shit, but nobody predicted the Heresy and thus, when you were winning and had the resources and logistics to support it, having different weapons and armour to suit the different needs of various legions and battlefield conditions, made sense.

>phobos having the same size rounds as heavy bolters is just retarded

Thinking that identical bore diameter means the cartridges have identical properties is what's retarded.

Don't have the list on hand, but 9x venator is still only = 1350 points. You can be cute and for an extra 135 points give them all anbaric claws, because with a wall of armor like this people will throw themselves at them. Or maybe not, now that melta bombs got fucked.

With 27 HP, Av13 front and flare shields... flyers are not particularly scary. If they move they'll waste time getting into/out of position. If they hover, they get insta-gibbed.

I mean it's a total gimmick, but it's also enough firepower to fuck up most threats.

Leaves them looking a little bit brighter than the ones primed black but it saves so much time (I was using brush on black primer) that I'm okay with it. It may not be, but building a thousand marines certainly is. Doing them all as the same chapter even more so, and trying to do them all at once is certifiably retarded. Aside from the fact that you will never field them all, the downsides are evident in how shoddily put together and boringly posed they are. I'd be astounded if your paint job is anything other than total shit. Don't do 1000 marines shittily, do 10 well. Once you've finished them, do another 10 just as well. Carry on like that and you may get to 1000 eventually, or you may decide you'd rather build a second legion, or something else entirely.

Yes, Necron codex even says certain Tomb Worlds began awakening during the Great Crusade but in general the Tomb Worlds started awakening en masse much after the Heresy.

I know Tyranids are not in the galaxy (Maybe) but I dont think its out of the question for their vanguard organisms to arrive on fringe worlds much earlier, infesting worlds and waiting for the Tyranids to arrive, marking the galaxy for imminent consumption. I'd imagine the Great Crusade could've encountered Hive Worlds that were basically Genestealer societies, you could easily use the Warp Cults army list to represent that.

Triarch Praetorians remained awaken during the great sleep as penance for the failure of the War in Heaven and worked to ready the galaxy for the coming of the dynasties. Trazyn claims to have met Girlyman. Szarekh met with Sanguinius and also didn't go into hibernation, but travelled into intergalactic space.

Also don't forget about the Canoptek machines, they may lack the higher intelligence of the Necron leaders, but they'll still protect their tombs with lethal force.
And with some of the FW constructs thrown in, they'd be surprisingly deadly.
>>

what book is that?

the birth of slaanesh took place in m25, thats what made all the warpstorms...after 5000 years the warp storms calmed and empy started the crusade, isnt that how it went?
>>
>>50682875

Yeah source
>>
>>50682819
Because people think the beginning of the Age of Strife and the warp storms were caused by the birth of Slaanesh and the formation of the Eye of Terror, instead of it actually sweeping away the warp storms and signaling to the Emperor that it's Goofy time.
>>
>>50682875
I want to say Codex Eldar 4e, because I know I had a grab from there in the folder that image was in, but the image really doesn't look like it.
>>
>>50682875
Other way around, right? The Warp storms spam everywhere and the birth of Slaanesh blows them all away and allows Emps to start crusading
>>
>>50682856
Also, the tale of the Emperor and the Dragon, Manus' silver dragon, etc.

Wonder what sort of a force you could whip up with just Canoptek machines and Praetorians. Don't the walkers have Praetorians piloting them?
>>
>>50682923
but how would that work? how would the birth of a chaos god blow away the storms? and what caused them in the first place?

>>
>>50682929
You wouldn't even really need the Walkers to be honest, but they'd add a nice spike of firepower.
The constructs in Imperial Armour 12 add quite a bit of Oomph.
Canoptek Stalkers and Tomb Sentinels are dangerous monstrous creatures in their own right and Canoptek Acanthrites have Entropic Strike for extra fun.
And don't forget the Sentinel Pylons (and the Super Heavy version), that adds up to an awful lot of marine annihilating firepower.

There wer so many various and sundry xenos races that even 'nids could be used.

Also time travel exists and while it wouldnt shift whole armies a battle barge of chaos marines from 40k could easily end up in the HH. Hell even Cypher went back in time to the fall of Caliban. And now he's all the way back in 40k again. Dudes probably 20k+ years old at this point.
>>
>>50683156

>>
>>50683194
Which time? THe first time? Some BL book. Or do you mean coming back to 40k? Thats based on rumors that he and the lion are back in december and that I think the BL book takes place slightly before 'current day' 40k. so he had to get back, manually via 10k years, or time travel again
>>
>>50683240
What do you mean "Cypher went back in time to the fall of Caliban"?

You mean there were two Cyphers present there? And if he continued to exist in that timeline, that mean there's two Cyphers active. Maybe more. Is that his plan, just travel back in time enough times to have enough copies of himself to deal with everything?
>>
>>50682967
Think of it this way: the warp storms start when Slaanesh is conceived and get blown away by his/her/its birth in M30.

The "conception" happens in M25-M26 when Eldar society starts getting pretty fucked up. Their debauchery casts a pall upon the warp and puts it into turmoil. There's rarely been so strong a link between the physical galaxy and the warp, and that probably accelerates the evolution of psychic humans and the entrance of daemons onto human worlds. (The big mystery is how Dark Age of Technology humans coexisted with the Eldar, since both were at their peak.)

At the end of M30 Slaanesh is complete and bursts onto the scene with a scream that kills most Eldar, a bunch of humans, and wipes away the warp storms. The warp has found a new balance.

I suppose it was more of a critical mass kind of thing. That was when the Eldar reached their height, when they could afford to fully slip into decadence and not just paint a mural by having a decade long murder orgy, but also find enough people willing to do that, and have the infrastructure to keep it going.

Wargear doesn't work while embarked upon a transport, unless it specifically says it does. Latest FAQ ruled that models embarked on transports are not on the table, so can't provide/benefit from a lot of area rules and such.

>>50683798
That relic doesn't work for saboteurs anyway, since you gotta be on the board at the start of the movement phase for it to work ... and the saboteur is still bussy praying for that succesfull reserve roll at that time.

Is someone claiming that a model with the void shield harness protects the vehicle from the saboteur?

Because no, you're not shooting. The target just suffers its effects. You can't even target a unit, only their vehicle.

Nah, it's pretty shitty. I'd be more okay with it if you could have a crack at the saboteur with Interceptor even, but literally unstoppable damage is pretty poor game design. There should always be SOMETHING an opponent can do, some tactic or counterplay they can use to try to stop it.

Frankly, I think the saboteur was a mistake. The vehicle damage is a nuisance, but it's the ignores cover AP3 that bothers me more. But Bligh plays AL, so it's probably here to stay.

But on anything that has more than 12'' just leaves the opponent with little to no counterplay depending on how mobile the unit is that has it, or if Barrage. The game becomes even more of a who-shoots-first-wins than it already is in that case.

Luna Wolves are pretty restrictive in terms of special units, upgrade kits, etc.

White Scars (which look better as a light gray) would've had quite a bit of Mk. III. They spent the first four years of the Heresy performing a lot of boarding actions so their fleet tried to find a way to Terra. Tartaros are also a good fit for them - they'd definitely prefer being able to sweeping advance over a little more protection. The Scars are a relatively rag-tag force so you wouldn't have to bother enforcing any sort of uniformity over them. In terms of rules, we do need to see how the FAQ affects them. Losing multi-bombing has been bad for Outrider squads. (Jetbikes shouldn't be taking meltabombs, they're a ranged unit.)

The FW color plate shows them with gold and metallic red trim (looks like silver with red ink mixed in - a little pinkish). Other people have used a Scab Red sort of color because a purpler shade contrasts better with gold (but if you use decals, you have to paint over their red too).

Sons of Horus would have relatively few Mk III suits, but they are a good-looking (and strong) legion and easier to paint.

I think things like the Swarmlord are "one of a kind" because the psychic presence is required to make it a "proper" Swarmlord. Or having two on the same battlefield would make them not work.

Then there's genestealer strains which would develop in isolation and/or depend on the DNA of the species they're infiltrating.

The ones who fight to keep names out are the very same ones who pay attention to them, we simply ignore them. But it taints their safespace and they cannot allow that.
