I'm gonna be playing a Dread Necromancer and was given the option, after a series of weird deals, pazuzu, and so on, of changing my familiar later on to pretty much any monster according to my level (currently lvl 3, will go to lvl 10 pretty soon). Said monster will have an ability like the slaymate, and I want to make it somewhat difficult to kill. I was thinking Blink dog. Any ideas?

Arent blink dogs motherfucking lawful good?
I can see plenty of places that would go downhill. Even if it is a brainwashed one.
Especially if it is a brainwashed one.

This aside, just go with an allip if allowed, and watch how the DM is going to fuck over your existence.

Well, it does say "Usually lawful good". Which would probably be reason enough for my DM to make it evil. Or just an undead version of it.

Allip is pretty good as well, honestly the looks lone would almost make me go for it. While at lvl 3 it'd be a good choice with it being incorporeal, at higher levels perhaps the blink dog might have better chance for survival with its hit or miss mechanic?

Why are you so concerned about pet survivability? If it dies get a new one.

Allip is better, because ethereal.
It can just hide underground or a room away, and strike where nobody expects it.

That can get expensive. I think it cost 100g x level to replace a familiar.

One of the downsides of this deal, is that besides the gp cost, it'll also cost xp to replace the familiar. Since the most awesome thing about it is the -1 to metamagic I'll get, I'd rather have it survive than attack (and I need to keep it at most at 10ft from me anyway). I have have an undead horde do the rest of the dirty work.

Well, as the anon earlier said an ethereal pet has superior survivability. It can hide inside terrain protected from attacks.
