Everyone in the group agreed it should be a case by case thing, and probably never actually +8. Also saw a paizo thread where they all agreed it was terrible. I dunno, Pathfinder is fun but I'm finding it to need a fair amount of house ruling just to keep things sane and running smoothly.

IMO, Warlord. The recovery of bushi seemingly stacks with the main recovery, giving it a far better recovery with gambits and iaido. This lets them keep up the pressure with boosts/strikes far better than warder. Mithral Current and Scarlet Throne are both great disciplines for this as is Primal Fury, though a ZS warder will have nearly the same discipline selection. Traiting/Tradition into more utility disciplines like Veiled Moon, Riven Hourglass, or Elemental Flux would do well also, given the high recovery rate. In addition, the Warlord gives up far less than the warder, who suffers for losing heavy armor, and the Warlord can select bushido earlier giving it another edge. Welp, can't bring myself to build a second character for RotJR, but if any of you nerds still haven't had an idea, I've got a few for you, backstory, potential mechanics, even character art. Feel free to steal, plagiarize, change as you will, or just ignore it.

First is a traveler from far off Vudra. But oh, that's not where his home is. No, see dad was a wandering Varisian, following Desna's teachings of travel, and when you're in Vudra you really can't tell which small town girl'ss got a little bit of Rakshasa in her blood. She sticks him with the kid when he passes back through town, and dad's no deadbeat so he keeps him, even raises him in the same way he was raised. Which is to say, a treasure hunter.

Mechanically what I have is Warlord||Archeologist Bard. If you go Spheres you can grab the Fate Sphere and Fate's Favored (which you'd get anyway) for some neat luck bonuses. Desperado works really well with the picture, but if you want something else then there are other pictures of the same character. Beastbrood tiefling, if you couldn't tell, the +2 to Dex/Cha works well, and you don't really mind the -2 to Wis since Force of Personality helps balance it out, plus adds to the whole reckless adventurer feel.

Second is another tiefling. This one was born to the Shoanti. Shundar-Quah, specifically, living in the Thassilonian ruins in Belkzen. Now that whole place is saturated with some weird shit, so sometimes you get kids tainted by Rovagug. And then left to die of exposure. It's Belkzen though, so instead of dying she gets picked up by orcs, who recognize her as a prophet of the Rough Beast. Our little wild child grows up like that, before she's found by a group of brawlers out of the Land of the Linnorm Kings. They drag her off, rough some sense into her, and after she tags along she joins them on their way south to Kaer Maga. Now that she's been straightened out something weird happens. All her life it's been survival of the fittest, but wants to fight for order, not chaos, and more than that, she wants to find anyone who might know anything about her past. So she trains and disciplines herself, and travels everywhere she can, getting spat on the whole time for her taint, but eventually finding a possible lead to her parents, in some tiny town called Sandpoint.

Mechanically, she's a qlippoth-spawn tiefling (Pass for Human, don't worry), Stalker (Brutal Slayer)||Unchained Monk VMC Barbarian. All out strength, and the VMC does a good job of reflecting the rage that's there just under the surface.

Their wis penalty hurts them a little bit when it comes to being clerics, but its something they do often with luck, community (the ability to donate a save is pretty powerful! with inabin) and trickery domains.

Well kitsune might work, but I'd still recommend beastbrood, since -2 wis is negated thanks to warlord and +2 cha. Your choice, in the end, of course, and Bushi will probably work better, but it's a solid build. For real Indiana Jones feel, you can dip a level in Investigator or Hedgewitch (font of inspiration) on the sphere caster side, gives you +1d6 to all your knowledge rolls.

Why is being good at dirty trick so hard?

On the plus side whenever an enemy provokes an AoO they become Dazed and Nauseated for 1d4 rounds, plus something they're holding gets stolen. The build gets free Dirty Tricks whenever one would normally get sneak attack dice. It can replace any number of attacks in a full attack with dirty tricks using combat stamina. It can upgrade dirty trick to debilitating things (like nauseated & dazed). Plus a bunch of other dirty trick stuff.

Man though is this feat heavy. Is this too far into dirty trick? I want to make a build based around a combat maneuver or able to use maneuvers in general.

To get is satisfactory for Dirty Trick it cost me essentially all my feats, but did give me steal as well. I would prefer to have room for Trip and Disarm as well. Are there any AWTs that I could take that give feats to lessen this load?

I think Genn probably ends up as a slayer with gun training. His identity in heroes of the storm is super fucking muddied, hell even his identity in wow is pretty fucking unclear; he is apparently a warrior there.

Historically he was always super suspicious of the alliance, even though he reluctantly joined it. Part of this suspicion stems from being [Good FriendsTM] with the House of Prestor - who was being led by Deathwing in human form. After the second war he was pissy about not getting the territory of alterac, and his support of perenolde failing, so he built a giant fucking wall around gilneas.

Then he had to deal with a civil war instigated by Crowley, before the worgen crisis.

The nation of Gilneas had an extremely powerful army as far as human kingdoms were concerned (it was one of the most powerful), they readily adopted gunpowder and they had a strong navy due to both the closeness of silverpine for lumber and the fact that they were on a well protected peninsula. Zul'dare was a major naval staging point for them.

After the worgen crisis, the worgen of gilneas are hunters, warriors, druids, mages, rogues, warlocks, priests and deathknights. It's not certain how exactly they break down into percentages, but I'd say mostly warriors, priests, hunters, rogues and mages with less of the other classes.

In wow he wields a 2 handed sword, but has a mana bar, he's called a paladin but he also uses hunter and rogue shit. For the most part faction leaders in wow don't like to stick to one class, like Sylvannas is a dark ranger, which is kind of like a prestige class hunter.

I don't want to start the whole eastern/western Iaido thing again, but bushi doesn't have to mean Tian Xia. You're probably right on the kitsune being slightly better, and it's up to you, of course. If I can make another recommendation though, it's Desna's deific obedience. It's a +1 luck bonus to initiative, so +2 for you, and +4 to perception to avoid surprise, which is really nice since your wisdom, and therefore your perception, isn't going to be the best. Also it's all about dancing, and since I'm guessing you'll have Perform (Dance) it fits even better thematically.

Other than that they get to take an action to charge it (and it stays charged so you should start every encounter with it loaded) with some bonus damage, and they get blade skills which are literally just talents (like rogue talents) for that class.

Archetypes vary this very generic theme, from "well I want range" soulbolt to "unlimited blade works" to becoming a PoW initiator instead (warsoul).

That's uh, that's it. That's really it. The soulknife is a very straightforward class.

Uh... no. Vigilante's masked identity is nothing like Rage. It's basically an ignorable mechanic that you'd be fine dropping if you really wanted to - you always have access to your vigilante abilities, there's just a risk of revealing yourself as the masked identity if you use them in your social identity.

Past that, it's one of the most versatile warrior types in the game with a high degree of available out-of-combat options. and can be built as a rogue rather than a warrior if you prefer.

Any depth or complexity you want out of soulknives basically requires you take the newer archetypes - and they DO allow for a lot of nifty tricks and even some utility - but you're actively choosing to gain this depth if you want it.

The Vigilante is practically a "build a class". They're officially "masked heroes with a social persona" a-la batman&bruce wayne, but they've got so many ways of being built that you can turn them into magical girls or mad scientists or serial rapists if you want.

Honestly not particularly compelling. Sure, he'd be kicked out of Cheliax, but the question is why would a Yokai be in Cheliax in the first place? It's hardcore LE, and even if that presents a bigger challenge I think it'd be far too repressive for him to do his tricksy stuff. Plus, given his age, he'd probably have been there pre diabolic influence, which raises all sorts of questions, AND Cheliax has no influence over Sandpoint, since it's under the auspices of Magnimar, not Korvosa.

My advice? Make him an ex-Druman Blackjacket. Druma's still got those tasty laws to subvert, but they're not as evil as Cheliax. He could probably manage to get away with his pranks for a while, depending on how clever he is, but eventually they'd crack down, and a disgraced Blackjacket isn't going to find work for a while, not until he finds himself in a sleepy seaside village in Varisia.

Don't forget that Soulknife suffers from the crippling deficiency of DSP's boss having been equally cripplingly retarded, saying that it needed to be kept compatible with the version that it was a FUCKING PORT FROM.

So half the archetypes are from that time, and their relevant shit has since been turned into blade skills. If memory serves, literally the only thing that Soulbolt gets you over just taking the blade skill is what level 1 bonus feat you get.

So half of them are basically nonexistent now. Good luck if you wanted to use one of those archetypes and do it at all better than a normal soulknife!

Personally I think it would, just because I find Druma more interesting than Cheliax, and I think it irons out some problems, which always makes a character more compelling.

The connection to NPCs seems to be a bit of a debate. Some people say treat it like Rise of the Runelords, where you're random nobodies wandering into town. It's an entirely viable path ripe for developing new stories with characters, with no preexisting interaction. Not to get side tracked by mechanics, but it also gives you access to Outlander (Exile) and +2 Initiative has never hurt anyone.

On the other hand, there are people who are treating it like Jade Regent, where you're compelled to go on this grand adventure because of your relationship with the NPCs. Sandru would be the simplest, a Blackjacket would make a hell of a caravan guard. Ameiko is popular and he'd have plenty of stories to tell in the Rusty Dragon with his [ridiculously large number] years of experience.

In the end it's up to you.
