Sadly, most of SoB fluff comes from their second edition codex. Gav Thorpe will always have a special place in my heart as a result. A lot of the clerical stuff got phagocyted by the AdMech, since they have religion and tech at the same time.

Repentia are S6 AP2 Armorbane (Eviscerators). Ally for Assault Transports. In my experience, a Land Raider filled with Repentias makes for a hell of a distraction carnifex (or a wrecking ball if they reach charge range). Celestians are terrible though, they're shooty units who think they're melee.

But disregarding that, the topic was GW, not it's fanbase, and if GW makes 90% of it's models pale skinned, then it's on GW to widen it's color palette if they expect to gain a stronger international holding, especially in countries that have gained strong gains in a leisure class like India.

Pale skin is easier to paint if you want to show up face detail since by definition basically and painted detail will stand out against it ( red lips for example). It is much harder to make such things stand out on darker skin tones (especially those deepest, darkest africa skin tones) without entering "firing mah lazor" territory. Given GW's display models are painted on a time constraint its simply better to go for white skin tones to get the desired effect.

Race in 40k is fucking stupid, because none of the traditional races even really exist any more. The human genecode was widely fucked with during Old Night and before, and different planets have huge divergence in skin tone, height, etc etc. It's not as simple as 'lets add some darkies in' because it means nothing in fluff or crunch terms.

Also what the other guy was saying about light skin being easier to paint, dark skin tones are really hard to do with such small surface areas to paint.

ok, so total new guy here. Been trying to get into 40K for awhile now and I've put together some Necrons, but I was really looking more into starting SoB. I just never bothered because they seemed like they were never going to get support and the all metal models. With it looking like them finally getting a push I'm considering shelling out for some metal minis to start an army. I'm fresh off the boat so I'm not really sure where to start. Would you guys be able to give me some advice on what to pick up first?

TL;DR: If you are a beginner with 40k, don't play SoB, get some experience and then consider it, and only then if your a masochist who wants some cunt-punting challenge.

SoB have been really squishy compared to other armies (Necrons are cheesy troll-tier even now, so good choice) and I've only see folks use them in mixed armies like with Astartes or Grey Knights (their weapons are great and complement GKs pretty well as long as (pic related doesn't happen AND IT NEVER DID) Pure SoB is a bad choice, though that may change (I have not read the new codex yet) for now I would focus on their anti-armor capabilities and pair them with another less squishy group as a compliment. I would also suggest that you read the new codex or talk to someone who has/will.

For painting I suggest this YouTube channel, does some good work if you want to improve yourself, especially since dark colors look quite shitty if you screw em up. I have yet to play much either but I love to paint and I love the fluff, I live in MA in the U.S. in the middle of nowhere so I can't play much, the closest place is like an hour away and I don't wanna risk bringing my army to school. :(

This new trend really pisses me off. When I first got in to the game I was 12, which is really about the bottom-line for what age this game becomes appropriate in my opinion, and I never bought a kit and felt dissapointed because it didnt look like the crazy artwork. If anything the artwork made me more likely to look at an army/unit no matter what. Now new stuff just looks bland.

There's a couple ways you could run an army like that. In general though, your goal should be to use Skitarii Rangers/Onagers/Ironstriders to kill things at long range and cover your Sisters while they move in with flamers and melta for the kill.
