So me and my sister want to get into Malifaux.

i already own some models (bought them some time ago for painting)

i own
Izamu the Armor (x1)
Toshiro the daimyo (x1)
Yamaziko (x1)
Samurai (x3)

im not sure what my sister should get so we can have a balanced fight, im not sure if i need to get some weaker models because they all have high cost.

anyways she is interested in the Neverborn what should she get? and what should i get?
>>
You should probably both start by picking up a crew box. They come with a Master, which you don't have yet, and usually three cheaper minions models and one more powerful henchman or enforcer.

It looks like you're a fan of the 10T so Yan Lo, Jakob Lynch, ot Shenlong would be a good place to start. Yan Lo has synergy with Izamu and Yin, Lynch has a great box, and Shenlong's henchman is amazing (although he's amazing little more complicated than the others)

If your sister likes the NB I'd vote for Lillith or Lynch (again) as good place to start, but I dunno which crews she likes the most. I'd personally avoid starting with Dreamer or Collodi, since they summon and use out-of-faction models which makes them a little expensive to buy into, but anyone else is fair game.

Where your sister goes after that will depend on what crews she likes, but no matter what master she plays a Doppelganger is usually a solid model.

Finally, if you don't have it yet, get a pdf copy of the rules manual. It's super handy.

>So me and my sister want to get into Malifaux.

Is this the start to a Porn Script or something?
>>
>>50602469
thanks a bunch man! i will look into it all and hopefuly what i chose is avalible at the store, again thanks alot man
>>
>>50602497
>Want to stick it in your sister's pooper but you keep flipping the fucking black joker
Never going to get full VP on this scheme.
>>
>>50602497
i hope not, contrary to popular belief not all of 4chan is into the "cesting"
>>
>>50602469
is Neverborn hard to play as a beginner? i have played 40k for some time but she is compleatly new to table top.
>>
>>50602736
Depends on the master. Dreamer and Collodi would be tough, since they are very much about timing and activation use, but Lilith would be a lot more straight forward.
>>
>>50602973
okay thank you i will tell her to ger Lilith crew box, and i will get the Yan Lo box
>>
>>50603034
beware yan lo's box is a pain in the ass to assemble. so many teeny tiny pieces.
>>
>>50603426
well shit, i'll assemble it on a good day that can be ruinied.
>>
>>50603527
'By Yan Lo's beard' is a saying for a reason, it's like 2-3mm long.
>>
>>50604322
And a separate piece.
>>
How fat is your sister? Also I agree with >>50602469, you can't beat starter kits most of the time.
>>
Can this Malifaux General?
I'm looking for the Into the Bayou book from Through the Breach, but I cannae find it for the life of me. Gonna be starting in the next couple of months, wanna see if it's worth buyin'.
>>
Going off this being the only Malifaux thread. If you were to relate masters to MtG color comboes/archetypes, what would Hamelin, Daw and Tara be, respectively?
>>
>>50609094
Hamelin would be pure black. Daw, black, red, and possibly a little white, since he's a spirit of vengeance. Not sure about Tara, black and blue? A lot of masters would fit in black.
>>
>>50604721
She is not fat at all but not skinny either, but i can see why you would think so
>>
>>50604522
>>50604322
fuck me i might go with the other box
>>
>>50604322
>>50604522
on second thought i will get that box it has nive synergy with models i already own so its woirth the damn beard
>>
>>50609094
I'll even do decks for you.

>Hamelin
What color is pretty much every rat and decay effect in MtG? Add on to that control through attrition and resource denial plus recycling your own stuff for incremental value gains, and Hamelin is solidly monoblack control.

>Daw
Also thematically black, but Daw has a very white control plan. He doesn't outright stop very much, but he makes everything a little bit harder. Daw is basically Death & Taxes.

>Tara
Literally flicker effects and exile, but there's also a time theme and some combo effects that feel a little blue. Tara is your casual friend's Brago EDH deck. There's lots of pretty cool stuff but it rarely lives up to its potential.
>>
I'm kind of miffed that there isn't a box with just a Freikorps Trapper and Librarian, or a two-pack for each of them.

Right now it's like a tax on any Outcast player who doesn't care for Von Schill. I almost just want to buy one of the TTB kits and roll some proxies.
>>
>>50609094
Kaeris would be mono Red burn.
Marcus would be mono green Beasts.
Ramos would be mono Blue artifact.
Ironsides would be White soldiers.
The only true theme to Arcanists is that they all use magic. The type of magic they use is all over the damn place. The only reason that they don't have a mono black master is that anything pertaining to death and decay in Malifaux usually causes the caster to align with Rezzers or Outcasts.
>>
what is a good guild starting box? they all look pretty cool
>>
>>50610967
>>50609912
Alright... As much as I don't want to be an NPE, my shitty, rat-filled pauper MBC deck was my favorite thing for a while. Any necessities other than the Crew Box and Brotherhood of the Rat?
>>
>>50612917
Most of them are good choices.

Torch and the Blade, The Guild's Judgement, and The Latigo Posse are all good starting choices. Each is straightforward and include legitimately useful models. I would lean with Latigo as it is worth the most points wise, even if it takes a bit to get the hang of the interactions.
>>
>>50613227
Not really. Hamelin has some good choices however. The Winged Plague are thematic and a good choice for scheme runners. Outcast staples like Rusty, Johan, maybe Hannah can't hurt.
>>
>>50613511
Yeah, I'll probably get Johan at least. Plagues depend on budget, but I have Alyce, Crooligans and Ashes and Dust as far as schemers and staples go so far. Thanks.
>>
>>50613511
My Outcast staples list would be the Freikorps Librarian, Johan, Sue, Big Jake, and the Hodgepodge Effigy. Trappers too, but unless I'm forgetting an ability somewhere I imagine they'd tend to randomize onto rats a lot with Hamelin.

>>50613491
thanks i think im going with Latigo they look sick for future reference what should be a good upgrade after that box?
>>
So do you think that we'll get Emissary upgrades for the new masters?
>>
>>50613667
Freikorps Trappers being Rare 2 but being only obtainable in the Von Schill box is a fucking joke.
>>
>>50613764
I agree whole heartedly. Lucked out that I got one of mine as a Jack Daw pack in. But still, this is terribly lame.
>>
>>50613754
We likely will, but the upgrades are mostly "boosts or fixes" so we'll need a year or so to see how folks use the new masters. Plus the time it takes for all the new boxes to reach general release PLUS the wave four stuff. So, I'm thinking two years.

>>50613697
What is this? I feel like I know the artist. (sometimes miss the moblin orcs)
>>
>>50604322
the problem is not the size but that it comes with half of his jaw and it's easy to position it too deep or not deep enough. And the Ashigaru are surprisingly nasty to assemble for such simple models.
>>
>>50614353
it says "S. Kwon 2012" in the bottom right corner other then that no clue
>>
>>50614786

Or you could be like me, get him in a trade, jaw goes missing in the process. Think imma just give him a veil or something
>>
>>50613697
Austringers

If you want something more thematic, then Pistoliers and Abuela
>>
how is tara's box?
>>
>>50615522
So far she's my only master. She's lots of fun. Karina is super underrated if you have the models she can summon or if your store is okay with proxies, I regularly get 12 SS worth of models out of her per game. It's a free win if you're against dreamer or someone using papa in a box. And the void triggers are super useful for emptying your opponents hand, getting them buried is just a bonus if it happens.
>>
Okay got a couple questions I have after powering through the basic manual

Do each player draw their own plan pools, or do they both have to take their plans from a single pool? The book doesn't make that very clear to me

How important is verticality in this game? I'm used of having a lot of rooftop running shenanigans with Mordheim, but this one doesn't look like it has a lot of support for that

Lastly, all those effects that say ''If there are no buried miniatures'', does that also apply for miniatures buried by the enemy? If that's the case, wouldn't Tara be kinda useless against Jakob or Zoraida crews when they get the update that makes their lieutenants immortal. since they immediately get buried?

Thanks in advance

>Okay got a couple questions I have after powering through the basic manual
>Do each player draw their own plan pools, or do they both have to take their plans from a single pool? The book doesn't make that very clear to me
I'm assuming you mean schemes. There is one pool for both players. Each player picks two (they don't have to be different from the other player)

>How important is verticality in this game? I'm used of having a lot of rooftop running shenanigans with Mordheim, but this one doesn't look like it has a lot of support for that
There's plenty of support for it. The rule book has rules for falling, climbing, and LoS for elevated models.

There can even be interesting effects from stuff like people getting lured off building ledges.

I'm not sure what you mean by "lieutenants", but I assume you mean the people they hired.

If by the "no other buried models" you're referring to the Void Wretch, then yes, it's all buried models. If the opponent has something buried, you can't declare that trigger.

However, certain models (like Void Wretches) still have attacks that can target buried models, and in that case they're basically helpless against you.
>>
>>50615654
There's a shared pool of schemes and a shared strategy.

It depends on the terrain yo and have, same with hazardous terrain. The terrain layout is huge in determining your schemes.

Yes, it includes all buried models. Make sure to read the card carefully, they usually have different exceptions. Like Karina can't summon if there are buried horrors. Tara can unbury anything and then get to control it if it's an enemy model.

I'm not familiar with Jacob or zorida, why would Tara be useless?

>>
>>50616750
Happy to help.
Your English is very good.
>>
>>50616787
Thanks. It's kinda shitty how having to struggle with a shoddy translation just adds a new layer of difficulty when learning a new game. Malifaux' spanish translation isn't bad, but some lines are too ambiguous where I'm sure they wouldn't be in the original
>>
>>50616750
It's all good. I just said "I assume you mean ____" so if you meant something else I didn't lead you astray.

>shoddy translation
The wording and grammar on some on the rules is already very specific - having to work from poor translations sounds awful.

>>50615654
>>50616542
There is support for multi-level stuff, but I don't think it works fantastically.
Or at least is fiddly to interpret in places, especially in view of how much of the model range operates on Ml attacks.

Say for example Lillith was standing right at the foot of that cliff and wanted to Melee attack Rasputina - reach 2" from the models base would suggest that Lillith can just about reach the top of her own head when swinging a sword.
That seems silly.
Equally silly is ignoring the presence of the cliff altogether, so that Lillith can reach anything withing 2" of that cliff edge - that's just not how walls of rock work.

We play "Reach + Height" from the base, or "Reach from any point in a cylinder of Height above base", but neither work perfectly.

Even in the Pic Related example, it seems silly that, even if the boxes were Ht 2, Raspie still couldn't see the Neph because LoS to the base is blocked.

>Yeah, I'll probably get Johan at least. Plagues depend on budget, but I have Alyce, Crooligans and Ashes and Dust as far as schemers and staples go so far. Thanks.

Ashes and Dust is a great dude for Hamelin. When you top three models are Hamelin, Nyx, and A&D you opponents face when you tell them they can just ignore conditions is the best (remember hamelin and Nyx can choose to accept conditions while A&D literally cannot get any condition including fast)
>>
>>50618145
That's what I meant, I see no miniature that works around climbing, or jumping from roof to roof and such, I get the feeling Malifaux isnt really built around verticality
>>
>>50618569
Yeah, I figure A&D with Sewer King and obeys would be nice
>>
Does Nihilism make you immune to Scheme conditions?
>>
>>50618767
Aside from not having anything focused around climbing/elevation, it's generally a wasted investment of AP getting to an elevated position - you get about 10 actions from a the average model in the average game, and spending more than one or two getting up somewhere eats a significant chunk of their ability to affect the game state.

There's no huge advantage anyway usually - if you can't deploy high enough for clear sight lines, burning a turn or more to get a shot on your preferred target is often less efficient than just popping something already visible, especially because the target will probably still have some cover (-ve flips to attack/hit).

As the game system works at the moment there's just not much use for multi-level tables.

Has anyone done much gaming on enclosed tables, like a sewer or entirely-interior board?

I was talkign with a comrade about how it would affect gameplay, with the number of auras/pulses and shorter ranges that Malifaux operates on, and sight lines or movement lanes being so easy to control and block.

Without the free space to manoeuvre, neither of us could really decide if it would be a new and interesting or just deeply frustrating experience.
>>
>>50619534
Holy crap, that's pretty strong

I kinda like this about Malifaux, it doesn't shy away from giving a miniature a skill that basically completely counters some other

And I already hated Hamelin.
Especially with Nix and Hollow.

So if the printed suit gets erased on a miniature that can't use soulstones, is it impossible for it to get dual suit triggers?

Tengu. Very fast guys who can be where they need to. Some things depend on your master. Torakage with a smoke and shadows set up aren't bad for Misaki. Guild Hounds with Luna are cheap options for McCabe.
