How do we fix it?

It's only broken if you play with casuals.>tfw have a family who up and quits all at once when I try to get them to play a boardgame

Elder Sign? I really enjoy it, easy set up and take down, quick turn over.

No, it's literally just called Arkham Horror The Card Game: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/arkham-horror-the-card-game/

Phenomenal game.
It sits in a weird space.
Formally it is one of their Living Card Games and probably the most similar to the Lord of the Rings LCG due to being a cooperative game.
However, it has some board game elements (moving around between locations gathering clues to complete objectives, etc.) reminiscent of Arkham/Eldritch Horror and surprisingly some RPG-like elements.
Individual games called Scenarios get strung together into an ongoing story Campaign. You gain XP that lets you upgrade your deck between Scenarios and decisions/outcomes made in one game might change or influence another down the road.
This does make it the type of game where you don't really make just one deck and keep it all the time for every run.
RPG's make a good comparison. Each game can be considered a module in some Campaign. Typically, you make a new character (here, a deck) each time you start a new Campaign.
It sets the bar pretty high as far as being a thematic experience. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of any of the FFG Arkham games or conversely if you enjoy the LOTR LCG and can dig the Lovecraft theme.
