Hear ye, hear ye. I hereby call to order this meeting of the most illustrious Mages Guild! Now most of you by now will have realised that night has continued on into the morning. Thanks to some quick research by the Astromancy department and of course, by simply looking at the sky. We have discovered that someone or somthing has turned off the sun. Now ignoring the wishes of some of the guild's edgier members. We must find a method of repairing this so all life in the realm can continue to exist. Discuss potential solutions.

Welcome to the Mages' Guild. Pick a name and join in! Conflicts are resolved with d20s when needed, or with playing it out. When the thread dies on /tg/, we keep it going on archived.moe. For additional resources, please visit http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Mage%27s_guild or http://collabedit.com/6fvae

So thats why my night shift hasn't ended yet...
>>
>>50545942
>turned off the sun
What does that even mean?
The sun is radiating heat and light because it's so massive.
Did somebody turn off gravity? Are we speeding away from our home star?
>>
>>50545942
>Looks up from her Oozemancy book into the sky and grins.
Why don´t we create a new sun then? Or are we not allowed to do that?
>>
I'm sure we can all learn to adapt to this new situation. Why blindly keep the status quo?
>>
>>50545942
>scratches his head while looking up at the sky
Now thats something odd.

>>50545990
We're trying to find that out. Is it being blocked or countered somehow? Did someone steal it?

Right now there's just not enough information, and until I can get this stupid torch working we're not gonna GET anywhere!
>>
>>50546012
Generally, because it's too much work to do otherwise, I find.
>>
>>50546038
I'd have to agree there.
Eventually others will start to panic.
>>
>>50546012
Im detectin a little bias here...
>>
>>50546012
>walks out into the conversation
I quite like the night.
Adapting wouldn't seem a problem to me.
>>
>>50546012
I will salt everything you own with garlic if you keep this crap up. We let you blow up the moon almost every other month, leave the sun alone!
>>
>>50546062
>Eventually.
I´m checking the portals. See you.
>>
>>50546062
Now...
>Scratches his chin
This is not something I've ever had to think about fixing before.

>>50546037
Have you tried lighting it?
>>
>>50546157
The sun does not burn.
It doesn't even have any oxygen.
>>
>>50546157
I don't think i've come across a missing sun in my years.

>>50546156
See you. Tell us any updates.
>>
>>50546182
No, the torch.

>>50546192
Then this is a weird situation.
>>
>>50546197
Do you see any pyromancers around?
Are they concerned with the situation?
>>
>>50546218
Now I know. This is s ploy by the pyromancers so that their services as providers of fire will be more in demand.
They are trying to manipulate the free market!
>>
>>50546218
Possibly. They may have made their own. Or stolen it.
>>
>>50546192
On my way.
>Runs back into the building.
Now then. Which one should I check first...
>>
>>50546218
Of course they're concerned! I'm sure that Noel is working her ass off to figure out what the hell is going on.

>>50546157
Working on it. It's dark, hard to see anything.

>>50546182
Hey, if you're gonna keep criticizing, start offering up some answers!
>>
Like any of you see the sun on a regular basis anyway.
>>
>>50545990
MAGIC ANON WE AINT GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIET
>>
>>50546243
Noel would probably be the one who could tell us something about the situation.

>>50546239
They probably do have an alternate sun with them

>>50546241
I... I dont know. I wouldn't know where would be a possible place with answers.
>>
>>50546254
I'm not that pale.

>>50546243
True, it is.

>>50546286
Someone should go check, just in case.
>>
Have you tried turning off the dark?
>>
>>50546320
I cast magic missile at it, but it didn't react.
>>
>>50546254

I saw the sun just the other day.
>>
>Is checking the wastes first.
Nope. Completely dark.

>Walks towards the Aen City Portal.
The light´s still on he- Nope. Just a fire.

>Over a dozen other portals later.
It´s dark. Everywhere.

>>50546286
Reporting back. No good results. Sorry.
>>
>>50546444
Have you checked if the moon is still visible, ie, if the sun is just incapable of beaming at us directly?

>>50546295
Alright. Now we're getting SOMEWHERE...
>>
>>50546500
>of COURSE the moon wouldn't be visible!
Uh.
No, that's not how it works. I suggest you look it up.
>>
>>50546483
I second the question. Surely a smaller, dimmer one would be more economical. Not to mention more elegant.
>>
>>50546517
We have been.
When you look up, do you see the moon?
I surely dont!
>>
>>50546517
I can pretty conclusively tell you that we won't be able to see that giant rock, because there's THIS giant rock in the way!
>Sam points at the ground.

Trust me, I know how giant rocks work! That's what I do!
>>
>>50546457
Well, It´s night. Of course the moon was- OH. Maybe we have an Eclispe happening?

>>50546470
I´ll gladly help!
>>
>>50546483
Because bigger is better.
>>50546570
Eeeh...
>>
>>50546560
Maybe we should make Earth invisible for a few minutes to make sure then.
>>
>>50546670
...
>She seems to ponder this.
I mean, it MIGHT work? Is that something you can do though?

>>50546470

Another thing we should do is prepare a ritual to find the culprit.

Those of us who needed the sun for our projects experienced a major setback: I want to be compensated for my lost time, resources and effort.
>>
>>50546470
You're a daft bastard, you know that? Making a new sun would play merry hell with the celestial spheres, causing untold chaos as destiny realigns itself.

I'll not be having any of this damnable retro-astrology fad. You'd have people waking up as toads and such all up and down the countryside.

Too much bloody bother. Just give the peasants a load of ever burning lamps and let's move on to other points of business.

Or maybe the sodding druids would like to prove that they aren't a waste of space and funding for once and conjure up some strains of crops that grow in the dark eh?
>>
>>50546596
>Points at the Growthmancy part of her name.
Just make a fireball. Let´s see how much bigger I can make it.

>>50546741
Just one try, please?
>Looks at you, nearly begging.
>>
>>50546749
You want our Ritualist to drop whatever she's doing and work on that?

...I mean, I can call her real quick but I wouldn't hold my breath.

>>50546777
And what's going to happen if the sun is so close to us that we all burn? Then what?
>>
>>50546832
Not really. I am pretty well versed in ritual magic aswell and with a few others I could find out who did it in but an hour.
>>
>>50546832
>Points at her tanned skin for a second, but sighs in defeat.
Okay. You win. No big new Sun.
>Is definitely not whining like the teenager she is,
>>
>>50546832
Id have to agree on not being burned.
I don't exactly tan.
>>
>>50546911
Alright then. Have fun with that.

>>50546917
I mean, making a tiny sun and growing it might not be a bad idea, but it has to be able to grow somewhere.

>>50547047
...Yeah.
>>
>>50547157
I mean, you clearly have the sun-situation in control. So someone should take care of the idiot who turned off the fucking sun.
>>
>>50547157

You got an idea of where we could grow it? I doubt this disaster ridden place is the right option...

I mean, is the old sun still there?

>>
>>50547452
Thank you so much!

>>50547730
Then we have one in reserve? For later accidents like this?
>>

Id prefer our situation to not having two suns.
Its quite pretty out here anyway.
>>
>>50547806
>Sorry, forgot my name.
>>
>>50547806
Lady, I've been in every damn storage closet in this guild at least twenty times in my life and I've never seen a spare star around here.
>>50547813

It sounds awful.
>>
>>50547730

>>50547908

>>
We should ask the hydromancers from the Arcane Fire Department. Maybe they extinguished the sun.
>>
>>50547865
I can understand your issue with the matter.
it isnt the most suitable condition to live in.

I guess finding the original sun wouldn't be the worst thing to do.
>>
>>50547908
I mean, the pyromancers have one lying around as an ornement.
But I aint goin in there to ask for it. I prefer not being crispy.
>>
>>50547999
I assure you, that is not the sun. That is a portal to Elemental Plane of Fire.
>>
>>50547985
Yeah, Its not somthing that I'd consider "Storage safe"
>>50547996
Anyone got a telescope? I mean we ARE still orbiting somthing right?
>>50548043
Oh thank the gods.
>>
>>50547993
...why does the Arcane Fire department have hydromancers?

>>50548116
Lemme see if I can find one.
>>
>>50548137
The Hydromancers are employed as fire extinguishers.
Im deadly serious.

Also can ya see anything?
>>
>>50548043
That seems remarkably dangerous.
>>
>>50548309
Not to us. Anyway, last time I checked there was a giant flaming DO NOT ENTER sign just above the entrance.
>>
>>50548354
Of course, of course.
>>
>>50548137
Why wouldn't it have them? They use their water magic to extinguish fires.

Same reason the Arcane Flood Department has pyromancers.
>>
>>50548354
I hate trying to clean that thing...
>>
>>50548373
Hey, we can't help it if redrobes just don't read the signs.

>>50548583
I uhh.
Maybe?
>>
>>50548605
I can't help it that they don't read a sign right in front of their eyes!

I've just about given up putting up signs, honestly.

Let's open another portal into the Plane of Fire where the sun was. I think it can work.

At worst, we'll have a spare portal, which is good thing!
>>
>>50548656

>>
>>50548729

>>50548731

We need to establish if there is anything where the sun should be.

Have you considered that someone might have cast something to make us not notice the sun, then applied enough magic to make that semi-real?
>>
>>50548656

Magic involving darkness I presume?

>>50548731
I'm sure most people would prefer it to not be eternally dark.

>>
>>50548843
>>50548898
I don't know who, but I've done similar on a personal scale to drive one batty and test the principles of subjective reality, but anybody who would do such, assuming both that this is the truth and the sun wasn't merely an illusion in the first place, would need both an arcane amplifier and a symapthetic echo device to reinforce the illusion to the power of the number of minds on the planet.

Anyhow, testing might work, assuming that we can get objects out of its area of effect. From there, we simply have to chain mirrors until it overloads the amount of contigencies against secondary actions built into the spell. Of course, maybe the illusion that WAS the sun kicked the bucket, maybe, if that paper a while back was correct.
>>
>>50549119
I uhh. Yeah. Wait no.
Im not Qualified for this...
Good luck?
>>
>>50545942
I know that we regularly strain the laws of reality, but I think that this is a new one.

I'll supply the meeting with freshly brewed coffee while we figure this out, but unless you want to call the church in here to cast artificial sunlight, the plants are all eventually going to die out.

>>50545978
One of the grad students blew out Lab 6. I got the fumes cleared out, but... you know, when you have a minute. Since you're still on shift.

>>50549181
No hair left and partially blind in one eye.

Really, they think that just because they aren't undergrads that they have full license to go mad scientist in order to stake their claims in the field. Such is life, I suppose; the ones that are intelligent enough to not try killing themselves or are clever enough to succeed will be the new faces in the field, as few as they are.

You know, the more I meditate upon this matter, the more I wonder: Is all this fuss really necessary? Sure, it's a bit chilly now, but do we really NEED the sun?

Either way, is this really our problem? Presumably, we didn't cause it and this more a job for some sort of Clerical order, or a ragtag group of unlikely misfits who band together to save the sun or some such nonesense.

You're a mage now, Obsidia. You either state things plainly, or play grab ass with random people while stealing their pocket change. Now get out there and prove your peers wrong about how you'll never accomplish anything of note and end up back in your old hometown, forced to marry the baker's ugly son and will have ugly children together who will inherit your big floppy ears! I suggest you head to the local pub, as no doubt there is some sort of Paladin or Fighter that is recruiting people, and likely will be expected to keep above the rivalry between your Elvish and Dwarvish teammates who will create a lifelong bond at the end of the adventure while you and some sort of burly Barbarian come to respect your different cultures and methods. Or some such nonsense.

>>50551468

As I mentioned before, the Gravedigging club has made some excellent headway on gathering raw materials for the class Bone Colossus project, and I've also managed to round up some blood sacrifices who lost their way in the dark and ended up here.

Truly this has been a most bountiful day.

The same way we solve all our problems:

Throw magic at it until it either dies or wanders off on its' own and then claim credit for it afterward, of course.

And if we can find some way to stick it the Bard College in the process, then all the better.

OH! I just realized that we can launch the bard college at whatever is theoretically blocking the sun and confirm its' existence!
>>

Excellent idea! We throw the Bards College at it. If they die on impact, we can study the damage to determine what it might be, and if they return, they won't shut up about what they saw! It's a fantastic plan.

>>50551782
Immolation might interfere with initial impact studies. I suggest we launch them from here in an incorporeal state to reduce drag and random deterioration.
>>

>>
>>50551931
Buddy, our jobs are very different. I make coffee, help file paperwork, and grow a very deadly species of tree. This is made harder by the fact that I'm a giant. You just fix magical things when they get broken
>>
>>50551963
Eh, good point.
How's the tree doing?
>>
>>50551819

We need to learn to stop relying on the Chronomancers. History has gone a bit weird, and I'm pretty sure half you people didn't exist before, I have been both older, younger, and had a different name, and now I'm not sure where I keep my penis anymore, since it's not in what I thought was the usual spot. I think I also had a different name before.

>>50551782
>>50551836
>>50551883

We have to make sure that the gravitational forces and energy that would have accumulated on its' journey there would catch up on impact to create an even larger impact.

The best way to achieve such an effect, use the version of the Transport spell that uses gravity dilation, but skip some of safety incantations so that way it will pick up any debris on the way there so once it refocuses into normal space, it should absolutely destroy the hypothetical creature blocking our sun.

>>50551931

Mervyn, can you and your assistants acquire enough sleeping drought to be vaporized into a gas and knock out roughly 250+ highly drugged up Bards (Probably all on Traveling powder, so err towards too much rather than too little), gas the bards and place the enchanted Ur-Iron stakes into a pentacle format around the Bard College?
>>
>>50551986

>Runs off in the direction of his cottage

>>50552006

>>
>>50551931

Oh, yes. I will need several well placed, um, assistants. Preferably ones who don't mind losing a bit of their physical selves. Its not a requirement, but it makes for less whining in the long run.

>>50552003

I can include a glyph that can tether the incorporeal college to whatever you need for the transportation spell.
>>
>>50552046

We'll send some red robes down with those stakes then!

>>50552059

I think that's exactly what is needed to make this all fall into place! That and a demon.

Admittedly the Demon won't really add much, but I always feel better weaving a demon summoning into my magicks.

You know. Just in case.
>>
>>50552083
Alright, I'll get moving.
Try not to launch the place while Im in there.
>>
>>50552105

As with all things magical, I could make you a promise, but that signals causality to interfere. Just know that should the unthinkable happen, it will be an absolutely spectacular display and your memorial will be nicer than the other fallen Magical Maintenance crew.
>>
>>50552083

Nah, familiarity is a good thing. Oh! Pick a sturdy one. We can use it as the focus for the tether. Just make sure I can slap the glyph on it.

>>50552105

The implication there isn't telling us not to start while he arranges thing, but just to make an attempt not to launch him while he's there.
>>
>>50552216

Oh! I know just the Demon! He calls himself Iblis Invictus and I have used him in 37 magical explosions now. He's perfect, and I know that he'll absolutely hate every second about it, while also being enraged by the very sight of me!

My bones are clacking in anticipation!
>>
Eh, commotion time again? What has happened now? This one sees many necromancers now, yes? Never a good sign this is....
>>
>>50552303

Sun's gone. It's okay. We think that there might be something standing in front of it, so we're going to lob magical bombed formed out of the Bard College, a Demon, and Unsafe Transportation Magics to test if there actually IS standing in front of the sun or if the sun wasn't just a mass delusion that we are all coming out of.

Either way, it shall be quite the spectacle.

Want to help us someone a Demon that doesn't want to be blown up again?

This is why we mages are superior. We always come up with real, working solutions, no matter how actual the problem is.

You know, the whole fainting thing can be avoided if people just committed and shed their pointless mortal form in favor of being an undead horror!

i thought quest threads were unwanted here

and before you say this isnt a quest thread, whatever it is should be forbidden
>>
>>50553514
That counts as touching.
>>
>>50553537
I mean, I've seen like 6 themed rp threads this week.
Do you shitpost in those as well?

Look, if it bothers you so much, just hide the thread. It's super easy to do.

If burning the demon is what you want, then perhaps you could weave a contingent spell into the product that would ignite the demon if the college fails to impact the theoretical block and create a new sun and/or ignite the old one?
>>
>>50553461

KEEP IT IN YOUR PANTS AND GO BACK TO THE CRUSADERS GUILD BECAUSE YOU ARE CLEARLY AN AWFUL MAGE!

FINALLY!

>Guttural chants an murmurs
>Temperature of the room falls
>The Box is Opened
>The Demon unwillingly goes intot he box before being shut.

And... I'm spent. You will all have to finish the bomb without me. All you need is the Bard College Mervyn prepared, the Glyphs, and the Gravity Dilation Transport spell, but ignore the bit about expelling debris gently, and bind the demon in before launch.
>>
>>50553584
I don't want a burning demon, I want a DEAD demon!

...good enough.

The glyphs are in place, actually. Well, they will be in place.

>hands over college map dotted with glyphs

Align the box to the center, have the anchors aka assistants in place as shown on the map, place the map on top of the box, break the seal in the corner here and poof! Ready to go.

Hi, I live a couple of villages away but traveled here with a trader for a few days.

Anyway, I think there's something wrong with my girlfriend. About a month ago she turned super pale and started disappearing at night. She also refuses to kiss me and stares at me weirdly at dinner. She also stopped eating anything I prepare and is never hungry.

She's also a lot bitchier than usual. Can anyone help?
>>
>>50555171
Sounds like she's sleeping with someone else.
Sorry m8.
>>
>>50555171
Oh, she's just a vampire.

The best cure for that is to tilt your head to the side and wait until she's better and you're just like her.
>>
>>50555128

Are you suggesting we cut him open, see what makes him tick, take measurements of innards, and sew him back up and send him on his way?

I have a 95% success rate doing that, but I can't say I've learned much at all from any of the apprentices I've done this to.

>>50555171

Have you noticed she's if she's started to wear a lot of scarves, collars, garters, or corsets?

Does she seem to prefer leather?

>>50555209

This is not something you should do with a new vampire, at least not while she's on an empty stomach.
>>
>>50555243

I wasn't specifically suggesting that, no. I won't stop you if you think it will help. However, you don't seem to have confidence in achieving useful knowledge.
I was thinking more along the lines of sudden and semi-random accidents to replicate today's participation.

>>50555171

Vampires are some of the more borderline of the not-quite-dead. I suggest caution and wariness to charms.

Don't vampires just eat people? I definitely heard that vampires just eat people. Not looking to get eaten by a vampire.

If she was a vampire she wouldn't be in the sun, right? She's never at home during the day and whenever I come back from the blacksmith's shop I work at she's gone.

>>50555243
She started wearing a lot less and is never at home. Christ I hope she's not a vampire, that would seriously bum me out. She started wearing the hooded cloak my mother made her two summers ago and it's not quite cold enough to wear it around here yet.

>>
>>50555402
>She started wearing a lot less and is never at home.

She's either a street walker or a night walker.

Do you use a lot of Garlic in your dishes? Is there silver in your home? Religious paraphernalia?

Get yourself a a mirror. When she IS at home, try to secretly see if she casts a reflection. If she doesn't, Vampire. If she does-- Prostitute. Or perhaps a ghoul. We'd have to examine her ourselves to know for sure.

If you share a bed, try to check her for unusual marks or wounds.
>>
>>50555822

Make sure she's not a ghost, either. The whole ghosts who don't know they're ghosts thing has some truth to it.
>>
>>50555948

Of course. Nothing worse than accidentally letting a Ghost know they're a Ghost. if you're not careful, you could very well have a poltergeist on your hands.
