If you don't mind lots of character death, use five men in normandy for your combat encounters. Its fairly realistic, meaning you will probably need some red shirts to take some hits

It's a soldier-focused rpg with decent mechanics and engaging combat

It's really easy to just scrub out the Warhammer and the scifi and just run it straight.
