Would anyone be interested in a game set in the Aliens universe?
>>
>>50522287
Depends on the system.

And what movie.
>>
>>50522287

Yes, very much so, especially if it cleaves close to the dingy retrofuturistic aesthetic.
>>
>>50522297
I'm a newbie to RPGs so I'm trying to figure out which system would be best. Any suggestions, anon?

And probably a mix between Alien and Aliens. More of the former than the latter, horror-focused, with Colonial Marine action for combat sequences.
>>
>>50522318
Traveller.

Alien >>>> Aliens.

>>
>>50522420

I shudder to admit it, but yes, GURPS.

>>50522409

Doesn't that game have a reputation for being nigh-unplayable with tables-within-tables used every combat round, all containing different modfiers?
>>
>>50522409
Goodness no.
>>
>>50522457
>Doesn't that game have a reputation for being nigh-unplayable with tables-within-tables used every combat round, all containing different modfiers?
It's Leading Edge, so yes. It's a simplified version of either Phoenix Command or Living Steel (itself a simplified version of PC).
>>
>>50522318
>>50522336
I'd say use GURPS. I know saying that is a bit of a copout but I really do think GURPS is your best choice in this matter for the fusion of low-key scifi and horror.
>>
>>50522318
>I'm a newbie to RPGs so I'm trying to figure out which system would be best. Any suggestions, anon?

All Flesh Must Be Eaten basically outright rips off Aliens as some of their pregenned enemies. GURPS is another option but it's harder to learn and design a GURPS game to your taste.
>>
>>50522538
And not Traveller?
>>
>>50522544

AFMBE also has the benefit of essentially using the same exact mathematic calculations as Interlock, making it incredibly cross-compatible with Cyberpunk 2020 stuff, with minor retooling.

Traveller and GURPS are also excellent options, as long as they're careful about what material can be used.
>>
>>50522549
GURPS has a Traveller thing to slam Horror into, which makes it slightly easier to horror with.
>>
>>50522579

>>
>>50522607
Why would you even play GURPS Traveller when you already have Classic and Mongoose.

>>50522620
Traveller is great. I played the newest Mongoose edition, the lifepath system is always fun.
>>
>>50522639

Mongoose traveller is pretty snazzy.
>>
>>50522639
I haven't really wanted to play anything by Mongoose ever since I was disappointed by Paranoia.
>>
>>50522676
Then there's always Classic Traveller.
>>
>>50522676

In this case, Mongoose has mostly done right.

They've got a lot of fuckups in their past, sure. But I'd like to think they're mostly a decent publisher these days.

Mongoose Traveller is fine. So is classic traveller.
>>
>>50522639
Mongoose's editing is shit, CTrav's been out of support for 30 years, and you've got access to all the other GURPS supplements. But let's not have this fight here.
>>
>>50522706
Okay fine. If you *like* GURPS then use GURPS Traveller. In any other case don't bother with it.

This game will start by using a premade adventure to get the group started, and will take place in the Spinward Marches initially.

Stuff from MgT1e will be allowed pending my approval. Otherwise, what's in the current published materials is what we'll be using. I have 1 player already, and I'm looking for 3 or 4 more. First come first serve.

This game will be the classic sort of "dudes on a spaceship" Traveller campaign. Once the group gets through the starting adventure, you'll be let loose in the universe.

This, desu.

There's nothing more pathetic than when some guy makes the excuse that he doesn't want to GM because he's always so busy running games for three different groups. Yet he's getting nothing back from that investment.

If you hate both of these things then why are you in a game finder thread? The reason people are posting here is so they can find one of the other since they're not.
>Telliing the other guy he has no friends in social hobby
If you hate this thing then why are you in a game finder thread? The reason people are posting here is so they can find one since they're without any.

I seriously don't understand what the point here is. Someone explain. You wouldn't be here if you both had friends to game with and could gm for them/they could gm for you. If you do then seriously why are you here? Just to boast about it?

Except I'm not the same person you were replying to. I am just genuinely curious as to why you're being an autist. That being said, you being an autistic batman on tg isn't going to help anyone and is probably going to make all the quiet, respectful, and generally good people leave in fear of getting a fucktard like you in their game.
The original guy was asking for someone else to decide whether or not to GM and explicitly said he wanted someone to choose for him. Someone then, as he asked, decided for him and then you and another guy get literally triggered about irrelevant shit you assumed about his 3 word post. At the very least you do have good imagination for roleplaying.

You either have really low standards for gming, or somehow have unusually competent friends.

>GMing is an investment now?

Yes? By running solid games, you'll make your players get ideas and inspiration for games they'll want to run. Giving you games to play in.
>>
>>50546071

You're weird. Why not GM because it's fun?
>>
>>50546174
No, GMing is like a mummy's curse that only dissipates when you pass it along to one of your unsuspecting players.
>>
>>50546174

Because it's still a lot of work and sometimes you wanna be on the other side.

Playing is tons easier.

>>50546174

I do...? I'm talking about GMs who complain about never getting to be the player, because they're busy running six gorillion games.

>If the player/players do don't what the gm wants out of them (or does not want to deal with of dmpc or events or fights not based around the skills of the players/pc but some kind of gimmick) gm gets bored and stops running

There always going to be more players then gm's but both sides will always have to deal with some kind of bullshit all you can hope for is that your player or gm can listen to you and work together

All of your GM gripes only come from playing with fucktards you don't know, poor networking and autismal social skills. Apply yourself.

Same for the player gripes.

The only valid gripe is that GMing is work and planning, and it can be a lot to manage.

I'm strongly considering running a game set in the Dredd universe, based on the 2012 movie.

The idea will be to have the atmosphere be very similar to the movie, in that there's very little to no campy-ness, and it's mostly dark, gritty, and realistic. In certain senses of those words, anyway.

The players will probably be gang members of specific or multiple gangs in a single MegaBlock (What the gargantuan apartment blocks in the setting are called), or perhaps low-rank Judges fresh from academy, or something in between.

I won't be starting this for at least two or three weeks, probably, but is anybody interested in it for the time being?
>>
>>50554194
What system will you be using?
>>
>>50554194
Comic Dreddiverse or movie Dreddiverse?
>>
>>50554445
Movie Dreddverse.

I'll have to look into the comiverse a little to see parts of the lore that would fit in well with the movie's universe, but in regards to theme and tone, it'll be like the movie.

>>50554382
Probably GURPS, but if there's anything better I might be open to convincing.
>>
>>50554603
You could always try Traveller, one out of the 3 Judge Dredd roleplaying games uses Mongoose Traveller 1st editions ruleset anyways.
>>
So, I figured this might be the thread to ask in.

I'm new to tabletops. Always wanted to play, never got a chance to try. About a year and a half ago, we met a fellow who was totally willing to run a game for a group of us who were interested, and in fact had been DMing for about 20 years. Everyone was excited, and we settled on Pathfinder.

In that 18 months, we've managed one game. The DM always shows up when we have a game scheduled, and another person is there about 95% of the time, but the other two are usually either no-shows, or three hours late. It's an online game, and while we're all in different time-zones, we all have abundant free time, and are willing to move schedules around to organize.

But at this point, so many games have been missed that I don't even get excited when a game is scheduled anymore. Instead of that sort of advent calendar 'ticking off the days until game day's feeling, I just kind of end up feeling vaguely pissed off until game-time, when half of the group doesn't show and we have to cancel again. But the two flakes are adamant that they want to play.

What do?
>>
>>50556291
Normally I'd give them a deadline to get serious, but if it's actually been 18 months I'd just give those two players a deadline of next session to get serious, and drop them if that doesn't happen or if it doesn't stick.
>>
>>50556291
How the hell did you guys let this happen?

I'd say drop the two players immediately, and try to recruit different players.

As to you personally, I would advise you try to join a different game, unrelated entirely to that one, and get some play time under your belt.
>>
>>50509337
request sent
>>
>>50556377
I guess we may have to, then. We've been trying to keep everyone together.

>>50556405
I mean, we kind of went into it understanding that scheduling would be a bit of a hassle, but it was supposed to be a real fun thing, since none of us had ever played before, and had always wanted to. Except the dm, who had plenty of experience. And since we've known each other for a long time, we figured it'd be a good way to try it, but yeah, after 2-3 missed game-attempts each week, it gets a little hard.

Thanks to both.
>>
>>50556478
>>50556291
Don't just assume you have a good GM because he's got "20 years of experience." For at least one and a half years of that time, he's been running a shitty game with shitty players, and that type of behavior doesn't just come out of nowhere. Chances are he's been running shitty groups like this for all 20 of those years.

I can't even tell you how many games I've finished in the last 18 months because the number is so high that I'd have to actually refer to game logs and count them. You could have been having fun during all that time like I am. Get out of that group and find someone else to game with, it's not going to get better.
>>
>>50556767
I'm not saying the guy is the best. I mean, the one game we managed to actually play was amazing. It was everything I had dreamed about tabletops being like. I didn't mean to bring up the experience as proof that he was "the greatest dm ever". I just meant that we had no idea what we were doing or how to play, and that he at least knew that. But yeah, I guess you're right. I would have liked it to be with people I was familiar with - In part because orthodontia makes me sound like a third grader when I talk to new people - But I guess my options are to find other people or just not play.
>>
>>50556881
Play with anyone long enough and they'll become familiar.
>>
>>50557052
Sometimes players are hunks of iron ore, and need to be really really worked on to become shiney.

Sometimes players are old spoons, and they shine up a lot easier.

Sometimes players are turds, and you know what they say about shining turds.

This also goes for GM's as well.
>>
I know this sounds like a meme but is anyone running a game where I could play as a skeleton?
>>
>>50557052
I get you. I just mean that none of us were. We didn't really have anyone who we could ask for clarification on things, and when somebody showed up telling us stories of the games he had hosted and played in, it was like "Wow! Is this really going to happen? We're going to actually get to play a tabletop game?". And then, it just sort of... Didn't. I guess. Like I said, the one game we got to play was a dream come true. And I would totally love to continue from there, with the same people in the same setting. But after having so many games just not happen, I guess it's kind of losing its magic.
>>
>>50557144
You can play as a skeleton hiding inside meatbag
like all of us do

>>50557064
I wonder if I'm a turd or a spoon

This is indeed your dad's DnD. Spears, sandals, and sorcery. Player-driven plot. I have a region with things to explore and active factions in it, as well as some overarching events and a way to introduce more, but what you make of it is up to you.
