We've Been Hijacked Edition
Let's all talk about something else besides the latest book Sub-Edition
In the last thread we had another issue, one Anon wanted to know if he could mix and match Termie arms, not even people posting their latest work and game results could save the bread, we do not have those links you're looking for and never will, new OP images were made, and it went all downhill from there. >>50496947

Thanks, masking tape is definitely useful for that. It just needs to be cut thin enough and positioned well, one stripe after the other and then you take off one out of two so that you get an equally sized parallel gap eveywhere.

My metal is super simple:
-Prime Black
-Leadbelcher
-Agrax Earthshade in the recesses
-Nuln Oil everywhere
-Stormhost Silver for edge highlights and battle damage
-Sponge Rhinox Hide and Abaddon Black for weathering/dirtying

Because I keep it at Leadbelcher, my IW are darker than most, especially after the liberal sponging that I do. I'm okay with it since I picture and base them in the middle of trench warfare.

I'l just hoping that the airbrush I'm treating myself this Christmas will help me get a smoother finish and a huge time gain on priming and basecoating the metal. Right now I'm doing everything by hand.
>>
>>50505630
>>50505759
Oh my bad, I read hazard stripes instead of chopped sprues!
Yeah they're great for that! All you need is to cut them to a point, then I follow Duncan's tutorial on rusty weapons.
>>
>>50505759
>my IW are darker than most
I think they're as Goldilocks would say "just right", at least within the "spectrum" that matters as what "just right" constitutes for that legion in my opinion.

My own current "recipe" (can't remember where I found it, sadly) is:

>Leadbelcher
>Heavy Drybrush Ironbreaker
>Nuln oil
>Runefang Steel (to taste, generally a lighter drybrush)
>Gloss varnish
>Then a "wash" of black oil paint (W&N) thinned down with white spirits

I've forgotten the precise details of the recipe the guy I learnt it from used, but I can't remember where it's from, which is inhibiting me from going back to it because I haven't painted IW in a looooong time. :(

>>50505793
Hazard stripes can be hard to get right too, what's your method?
How wide is the tape you use? How do you measure it if you cut it? And have you tried it on uneven surfaces?

Ehhh. Any of the fist-mounted examples fits that criteria, like flamers mounted on Dread CCWs, or at least some of them.
Then nigga here has a quad-autocannon on each forearm.
Tell me how is he supposed to rip out a heart with those? The cannons will fill up with gore. No biggie but it's a paint in the iron to clean that out.

>>50506007
The tape I use is the standard 6mm from Tamiya, but I cut it in half to make it 3 or 2 mm wide with a ruler, basically cutting it vertically, to have 2/3 long stripes that I cut horizontally, in order to have plenty of thin stripes.

I then start applying them from one corner of the surface to the other end, putting one stripe next to each other and taking off 1 out of 2 stripes to get an even spacing. Then I paint yellow on the corners of the stripes to seal the edges and avoid the black paint going under the tape. 2 coats of black between the tapes, cassandora yellow wash on the yellliw and done, just need to be weathered.

I found the "painting the edges of the tape to avoid paint foing under it" here:

It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the shaven head
But the Red King is yelling, "No!"
And her Emprah has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the holoscreen

But Prospero's a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could shoot in the eyes of fools
As she cancels their powers as...

[cHorus:]
Witches fighting in the main hall
Oh man!
Look at those wizards go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Wolfman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?

It's on Sek-Amrak's tortured brow
Mortarion has grown up a cow
Now the astartes have struck for fame
'Cause we go make war again
See the army in their million hordes
From Ibizium to the Norfolk Broads
Ruling Terra is out of bounds
To my sergeant, my dog, and town

But Prospero's a saddening bore
'Cause I fought it ten times or more
It's about to be fought again
As I ask you to focus on

>Same applies to tartaros armour which also has MKIV looking helmets.

Key point being "looking". It's not a MkIV helmet slapped onto the body, sticking out because various bits of it doesn't fit into the opening on the torso, it's a helmet modeled specifically to fit into the terminator body.

I once put a Marine helmet into a terminator body and it took a lot of cutting and filing to fit that thing in there without looking like his neck is stretching out of the torso.

>>In his astral scryings, Magnus learned of Horus’ nascent treachery. The Warmaster had been seduced by the Dark Gods. Aghast, Magnus projected his consciousness to warn his father as he created his great works upon Terra. In doing so, he damaged the Emperor’s sanctum beyond recovery. The Emperor, enraged, did not listen, and banished Magnus from his sight. He then ordered Horus to unleash the Space Wolves, capture Magnus and bring him to Terra in chains. Horus instead told Russ to bring utter devastation to the Thousand Sons. The war that followed was apocalyptic.

Also you should know the Fenris has a world soul in the shape of a giant wolf. It's this world soul from which the Rune Priests draw their elemental and primal powers from.

Magnus was trying to poison the World Soul by injecting with the Warp but it resisted. It manifested in the heavens fought against the great serpent of Chaos.

So the Woofs are right. They do not draw their power from the Warp, they draw it from Fenris. In your face TSfags.

>This is huge if true though. If this is confirmed then it basically confirms the Imperium has created a warp god with the Emperor worship. If this is the power of one world imagine a million.

Not necessarily. Fenris' "soul" could have been there since the very beginning, and not created by humans.
Just like eldar gods, it's been admitted dor a long time that benign entities live in the warp, but they're such a minority compared to the malign ones that they might as well be a black dude in a golden gated community.
>>
>>50512431
I don't think humanity created the World Spirit. The planet has magical leylines that Magnus tried to tap into. Who put those there?

The fact that Fenris and Fenris alone has a world soul among the worlds of the Imperium means that the planet is special for reasons unknown.

>The Rune Priests inside the Thunderhawk were not found wanting. On approach to Grimnar’s location, they had begun a summoning of their own, and the belly of the Ironspearwas strewn with pelts, bones and blooded runes.

>With a terrible, ear-shattering roar, a vast lupine head reared out of the burning sea. A fiery mane cascaded from a colossal skull of molten rock, jaws drizzling ropes of darkening magma as mountainous haunches pushed a tidal wave of lava across the endless ranks of Thousand Sons. The Fire Breather, mythical totem of Sven Bloodhowl’s Great Company, had emerged from its volcanic lair. Jaws lined with jagged stalactites crunched down on the winged serpent conjured by the Thousand Sons, dissipating it in a burst of flame. The titanic wolf-thing came crashing back down into the lava beyond, tidal waves of red-hot liquid slopping over the massed ranks of Rubricae.

Some stuff from the WoM thread. By the call of the Woofs, the planet itself rose to defend against the Chaos invaders.

In the sky above, the Wolf World Spirit battled the Chaos serpent. Tearing at it refusing to die without a fight.

When the fighting was over, there were Chaos daemons and TS still hiding on the world dark corners and beneath the soil. The planet itself drove them out from their hiding places so that the Space Wolves and fauna can hunt them down in the open.

Fenris is one badass planet.

Magnus stabbed the world with his Silver towers and tried to have the warp pour through the planet's leylines.

This was done to poison the world spirit to death. If world spirit was a warp enity, then why would the warp kill it? It would be like trying to drown a fish in water.

Sounds a lot like the exodite world spirits, to consider what seems the closest analogue. Those are also non-chaotic, yet made of warpy-type-stuff, think the souls of the exodites contribute to the world spirit somehow. And they have been known to help defend their worlds at times, though perhaps not as directly as that wolf spirit.

Exodites were around in the 31st millennium, so technically this post is almost on topic. Almost.

I for one like it when Emps simply wants to bring Magnus to Terra and scold him but Horus changes the order to Russ, it makes sense for me. A huge misunderstanding makes more sense than "my son deserves death", and take into account I'm into Mortarion's witch-hating club.

It also makes Horus more evil

Wow it's as if John Oliver himself was giving me one of his hilariously biased comments.
It's not about scolding Magnus. Maybe, who knows, there were a lot of possibilities.
He could have used Magnus to power up the shield and win the webway back, or kill him Himself, or to inquire face to face about Horus' treachery (talking about the warp through the warp is just inviting disaster, the chaos gods could have manipulated the vision to say "Disregard about Horus, I suck dicks"), or maybe just to scolding as you so narrowly propose. But we will never know.

Also, nobody died in Monarchia. The city was destroyed after they gave them like 2 days notice to evacuate. What the Ultramarines destroyed was the city itself, a fuck you to Lorgar's feelings, which then the Emperor humbled by making them kneel. I mean, Lorgar's plan was indeed to grovel at His feet, but not in that way.

ADB did say in his books and short stories that Angron's abilities were tremendously impaired by the nails, going into description of how much he had lost because of this, how he could have been a philosopher that people would fight to listen, yada yada.

Then if you add what we know from MoM, aka that Angron's nails went down his spine and neural system, i.e zven breathing and simply moving was painful, it's easy to imagine the Nails robbed him of a solid 80% of his potential.

Chances are, without the nails he would have been a bit like the Khan I'd say. A no-nonsense guy, keen on warriors brotherhood, but still a great thinker.
I'd even wager his combay abilities could have been even greater, since he'd be in control, and without having his body slowly dying.

He was trying to salvage gear, and try to keep all of the daemons at bay until the door was ready to be closed. He was heavily invested in the Webway, and if I recall correctly he didn't close the door instantly. He was too busy thinking about what could have been.

The Custodes and the SoSs had swords. Space Roman Martian Super Science failed too. I doubt even One Punch Lion Man could have lasted long. Unless he went full metal psyker and started psychically punching daemons then things would go far differently.

No he sent custodes in thinking they could fix it by using the same stuff used to make the mechanicum webway
They did well at the start but were over ambitious and ended up being driven back
The problem with the novels is 90% are set in the first 2 years
Then we have had so many shit short stories during Kirby and Goulding trying to Jew it up
Now they have had to time skip most of the stories so planned trilogies end up as duos and we go from loyalists kicking arse and making a difference to oh we had no effect and lorgar somehow has got into the webway - but somehow chaos don't use it much in the next 10k years
Heck in weregeld a major ravenguard character is written off in one sentence that his ship didn't make it out of the warp

would it upset people if I used an odd 40k MKVII helm as a MKIV helm with a mantilla respirator?

how common would mantillas be? also my word bearers when I get around to painting/building them will be themed around near the siege of terra, in the ending phases of the shadow crusade. the armour MKs will be very mixed and have battle damage, to show the breaking of the old great crusade and pre-heresy armanent lines, so I'll have a good bit of scavenged armour like MKVI from the raven guard they slaughtered at istvaan

That's a Reaver privilege, and the thing with the Reavers is that they mixed and matched sub-patterns until it would looked like a lot like modern abstract art to some other marines(and a lot of folks here). A Reaver could take a Mantilla helmet and by the time he's done with it you couldn't tell it used to be a mantilla.

So played a night fight battle for reals last night. Huge storm rolled in after we had started and knocked the power out for the rest of the night. We said fuck it and grabbed some candles and proceeded to murder each other in the dark!

Sort of-ish. They're basically what the Ultramarines are in the modern 40k in a way. They're flexible, but unlike the UMs they're highly competive. They might misinterpret something a legionary from a different legion said as a challenge and wonder why he's mad after they took care of the problem. They're prideful because Horus is top Primarch, he's their dad, therefore they're top legion. Did they mention how great their dad is yet? Well get ready, buddy, because they're about to.

doubles game 1500 pts per person, rough lists where a combined SOH infantry force with couple of 20 man tacs, a storm cannon levi, contemptor and a vindi, who were paired up with a Cassian Dracos force rocking some more dreads, preds and the usual smattering of firedrakes and pyros.

They were up against a two mechanicum force mainly consisting of 1 side castallex and usrax and the other thallax and usarax with the odd domitar and thanatar smatterings.

Highlights include me unable to kill the leviathan who was stuck on 1 HP for most of the match, the Thanatar getting cyberthurgied every 2nd turn to wipe out 20man tac squads like it was nothing and rag tag bunch of 5 SOH tacs sneaking across the deployment zone too grab the winning points at the bottom of turn 6 because a lucky vindicator shot stopped some usarax from raping their faces.

SOH + Sallies loyalist vs double Dark Mech

Protip on ursarax always take fists on them, initiative 2 means they are going to be striking last mostly anyway, and nobody wants a bunch of jump pack str 10 robo killers bouncing around their flanks.

>>50517766

>>
>>50518022
Was going to make DarkMech since they have all the cool toys. Didn't look into Ursarax that much, now I read the rules I kind of want some for beating up Spartans and such.
RIP Domitars, I might convert one into an Arlatax but since I doubt I will have more than the Homunculex until they have a proper model probably wont be getting more than one.

Holy shit, I saw a pic of that Scoria and wanted to base mine on that. What's his upper torso and head, by the way? I can't find anything that looks like that and I kind of want to have him be standing tall as opposed to hunched over. He's going to be standing on a custom Fortress of Arrogance-style Baneblade quite a lot of the time, and him leaning over a control panel isn't quite as cool as him standing tall in the turret watching the battle.

Entire army looks totally badass, but mine are going to be a bit less openly chaosy since I will have to occasionally ally with loyalist armies and they'd look out of place a bit. Just picked up the paints for them today, in fact.

Is it common for players to have a large chunk of their army converted from other kits? So far my Mechanicum has planned for 40 converted Adsecularis, 2 converted Castellax guns, a converted Enginseer squad w/ Servitors, converted Ordo Reductor artillery and some converted Magos and Baneblade to be Scoria and his ride.
Seems like this is a lot cheaper than buying Forge World everything, but would it be frowned upon to play with mostly non-FW models? Assuming the conversion is at least decent, I plan to take my time on this.
