Sort of, but mostly due to sloppy market research. In the last 18-24 months there had been a huge SJW push against magic being actively discriminatory and if they wanted to save their player base they would need to immediately start being über inclusive.

Due to their sloppy research practices, this small batch of telephone pole screamers were loud enough and repetitive enough that WotC thought they were a much bigger part of the base than they were. (which is to say, effectively 0)
This led to designing and catering to a demographic who not only did not make up any part of the player base, (which very few parts of which actively LIKE the changes, though the overwhelming majority is neutral) but continued to make demands of the company they never had any intent of supporting solely to make it less desirable for the plague of white man.

First of all calm down, getting pissy will not prove me wrong nor you right.

Second, as I already said I mostly approve of MtG's diversity. We already have a ton of interesting female characters, constantly go to planes where the majority of people isn't white, and some of the LGBT pushes I thought were genuinely great, like the homosexual couple commander we just got which at first was a very subtle story element in a flavortext. The story of Alesha where they used transgenderism as a vessel for the story about how Mardu is about individual expression was also great (although the writing was very cheesy)

Diversity pushing becomes obnoxious however when it breaks the immersion in the story. The random strong independent lesbian couple in the SOI story arc for example seemed really jarring to me and gives this feeling of "I'm not reading about a world, I'm reading someone's story with a social agenda". I also dislike the push for the lesbian coupling of Nissa and Chandra that came completely out of nowhere. However, what falls as jarring and what falls as fitting is very personal and I can't objectively say where the line is.
