Yes, but iirc she did advise commanders on matters of strategy, carried a standard and was injured in combat at least once. She wasn't a fighter by her own admission, but dismissing her entirely as a mascot isn't entirely fair either. How about some good female characters that actually embraced their feminity? Beautiful, charismatic and competent women using influence and soft tactics to achieve their goals? Or just plain capable managers and administrators? Or maybe supportive wives, someone who epitomizes the phrase "behind every great man is a great woman"? How about great mothers?

I want to make a couple NPCs like that, but I'm having trouble coming up with inspiration, since looking up "good female character" leads to things pretty much like this thread.

The consequences of them cutting out small events from the books ends up causing big problems further down the line. Like how them having Tyrion's wife genuinely being a whore means that a lot of his characterisation during a DwD gets lost (as well as him never revealing to Jamie how Cersei's been sleeping around on him, which leads to his re-evaluating his life and deciding to try and be better), or how them trying to make Stannis out as the evil guy (so he doesn't risk seeming more sympathetic than D&D's waifu) makes the Tyrells much more sympathetic later down the line, and Brienne much less sympathetic (as well as removing a lot of her more nuanced characterization by making her an older, much stonier person).

Honestly, I could rant for days about this. As you can see, I will, given half the chance.

Don't recall that ever happening myself. She still has the sword as of the last season, it's almost a plot-point.

As for Stannis, he ends up burning his daughter in an attempt to break the bad weather keeping them from marching on Winterfell (they can't go forward because of the snow, and they can't go back to Castle Black because they'll be trapped there for the rest of the Winter.

In the end, it's Ramsay, who ends up a complete villain-sue up till the very end of the sixth season (despite all the hints D&D tossed out that his chronic villainy would come back to bite him) and his legendary 20 good men (somehow) destroying Stannis' army supplies that forces his hand.

Credit to Stannis' actor, he does manage to make it look like the decision absolutely destroys him, but it's still a complete mess.

The whole fifth season was an utter clusterfuck, really. Only good bit was Hardhome.
