Provide interesting choices. Make them specific and limited, rather than a generic option that won't engage the reader. "Teleportation" is generic enough that people will have already thought about using it; you're not providing anything new. Choosing between "Teleportation with a 10 yard range to anywhere you can see" and "Teleportation with no range limit between invisible marks that you can place on objects you touch with your hand" is more specific and limited, and gets the reader thinking about which one they'd like more as themselves. Which segues into...

Describe options in real terms. Everyone loves powers that they can imagine using in real life. That's especially true for an urban fantasy concept. For the same reason, you probably don't want to over emphasise combat powers. Everyone's had the "mugger jumps me and I waste them" fantasy, but most people don't think about getting mugged very often. Comfy options tend to get picked because they're nice to imagine, especially when you have enough choices to be awesome and comfy at the same time.

Embrace the fact that if you make a shitty CYOA no one will remember it. Shrug, and make another afterwards. The ones that people like stick around.

(Also, look at World of Darkness. The Disciplines section in any of the Vampire books does all of this. Interesting choices between a series of options with specific abilities and limitations, all described in real terms. Well, except for the combat powers. That's all quantified using in-game terms for obvious reasons.)

Drawbacks are okay if you keep them reasonable. There's a bunch of things that trigger anons here disproportionately, like losing memory or having a girlfriend that has already seen a penis before.

Demon+Blood
Do 100% more damage in the beginning. You always heal as you hit the enemy. Your healing goes down as you get closer to finishing off the enemy, but whatever. Good build for survival.

Diamond+Ghost
Two attacks, both at 50% chance to critical. You do 100% damage normally. Of that, you have a 25% chance to 400% damage, 25% to do 350% damage, 25% chance to do 200% damage, and 25% chance of doing 150% damage. As is, this makes it more effective than Fire, which promises a 150% plus 75%, as you have a higher chance of doing more damage. Pretty much the one punch of Blades.

Frost+Poison
The ultimate crowd control. It's too obnoxious to do the probability table for this one, but pretty much you have a nice chance (greater than 1/2 chance) of when you hit to somehow slow down your enemy. Combine with that you have a constant 1/4 to paralyze, you could easily slay most enemies, as you'll dodge their attacks then completely paralyze them. Followed by lots of stabby stab.

No purpose swords:
>Thunder: 50% chance of doing 50% weapon damage. This basically means you're holding out for half your weapon damage. Fire is more useful.
> Death. The probability of this is insanely low. If you think this is high, go play a 40k game and try to get a 1 or 2 on your roll. That said, it's a 1/50. You have about the same chance of predicting what card you pulled out of a deck at random.
>Explosion: Even with crowd control, this requires that you kill an enemy first for it to be useful. It'd affect you anyway, making it a bigger danger than it's worth.

Aesthetically: The background while fitting makes reading somewhat more difficult than it needs to be. It also doesn't add much to the look of the page. When I made my cyoa I was looking at Bliss's work and I have the feeling that having an interesting but neutral background image really helps in making it more visually appealing. The font is not a good one for ease of reading either. Also I don't think it's good for the headings or titles o be the same font as the choice text. The pictures should have borders of some kind or else they're too distracting. Looking at the good food picture and you can see how it clashes with the surroundings. I would say using text boxes like SDA does would help as well. Dimensions are a bit odd. It should be a single image 1200x9000.

Content: I don't have any problem with the idea but I wish it was a bit more fantastical. The top image could have been of a picturesque building and it could be the school the elite's elite send their kids. With that framework you could have options that were a bit less generic. Allies portion wasn't interesting and most of the powers weren't as well. This is more subjective but I wish you had included some events that would have done a bit more world building. Like the hazing event or the campus secret occult prom or something.

Again I know it might sound dumb but this should be 1 image. The font is way too big and could be smaller and I think it hurts when you have to post a bunch of images to read what could have been a quick post. Font is another problem. Background is lacking. I like the fluff text. I guess this is a divide from the older cyoas but I think that it is more successful when the art for options is drawn instead of real people. Honestly I agree with your taste in CYOAs. I don't mind comfy ones, but they really would be best as the occasional treat of break from the coll adventure ones. Those get me immersed in a setting that I can actually think about for a while after I leave the computer screen, while those comfy ones are mostly a momentary little treat. It's just my opinion, though, and content producers can make whatever they feel like, and the majority will request and give ideas for whatever they want. It would be nice if we had more CYOAs that captured the feel of some of those older, either immensely or slightly, CYOAs.

Good thing is, I can stay in Overdrive for long periods of time, muscle tearing healing near instantly due to it being minor injury covered by passive healing.. Getting some fire resistant gear and then slaying a phoenix should be easy. Strange monsters will be rather easy as well, with Indomitable making me very resistant to illusions, which I can use by Monster Soul against the damn tough dragons. Swaping to a pheonix soul should also convey at öeast some resistance to fire or lightning, helping tremendously, should my speed fail to get me out of a dragons breath.

The idea behind the build is to live off the wilderness in order to prepare for the culling. I originally went with underground cave, but desert is a better option, the nice open flat spaces is perfect for a high AGI and SKL bow user.

The plan was to collected monster shit form the wilderness which there should be extremely abundant, ferment it for two seasons, boil it in water, treat it with lime and potash to remove fats and contaminants, and filter it through a column of fine particulate of sand, rocks and a few layers of cloth for the ammonia nitrate.

Than turn ammonia nitrate to nitric acid by mixing ammonia nitrate with copper and concentrated sulphuric acid, in a large jug with a covering that is placed in a larger tub filled with water, the reaction produces nitrogen dioxide and than is dissolved in water in the tub to form a really weak concentration of nitric acid.

In order to get sulphuric acid, you burn sulphur in air to get sulfur dioxide within a sealed container, than pump oxygen with vanadium(V) oxide to catalyze the sulphur dioxide to trioxide and quench the reaction with water to get sulphuric acid.

In order to concentrate the acids used, simply simmer them through a alcohol distiller, if there's breweries in this fantasy land than they have distillers to make hard liquor.

In order to make the actual explosive, you mix a equal blend of concentrated nitric acid and sulphuric acid with cotton, cool it below 40 °C and now you made guncotton, a huge component in ww1 and ww2 era explosives.

Dissolving guncotton in diethyl ether (Ethanol mixed with sulphuric acid) and ethanol (Running a whiskey through a distillery a couple dozen or even a few hundred times) make a slurry called collodion and mixing that slurry with nitroglycerine (Nitric acid and sulphuric acid mixed with animal/vegetable oils) and bee wax, you get cordite a ww2 era british gunpowder.

Literally all you need is sulphyric acid and nitric acid.

That's why solve was in quotation marks, the build had alot of weaknesses, it require careful planning and setup and depended on The Culling area to be fuckhuge enough for the build to setup a comprehensive network of carefully hidden trenches, escape tunnels and non magical and magical explosive traps. The idea was to proactively scout and find other hunters with all-seeing eye and killer instinct from a extreme distance, track them down and kill them before they can detect and touch you with their psionic fuckery. Unless psionic powers severely outrange All-Seeing Eye Zoom range. Than I guess I am fucked.

Nullification doesn't bother the build. And Strength is a useless stat when all you're doing is detonating explosives in people's faces and pocketing allows you to carry everything you need without any penalties.

Offense: Use my Ancient Weapon sword and my mobility and Stamina to hit weak spots hard, fast and unrelenting. I can use a short Flurry+Overdrive for damage, and if needed I can use Overdrive longer. However I do rely on melee only.
Defense: I mostly rely on the evasiveness of my agility and Athletics, combined with Sixth Sense. Regeneration heals my wounds and Overdrive aftereffects while Bloodlust replendishes my blood. Premonition also helps with picking the right fights. Maybe a few potions can also help with this strategy.
Mobility: Super high agility, along with great Stamina, the ability to double jump with Enhanced and Wings allow me to dash all over the place. Athletics increase my flexibility and grace.
Magic: I am weak against magic but I hope I can deploy my defense strategy to it.
Perception: I am lacking in hunting and discovering traps. Hoping my Sixth Sense, Premonition and Wings can assist.

When the build was made Bliss forbid it, he said we weren't allowed to take anything with us to earth and bring anything back with Visitor and all the stuff available at the markets and alchemy labs was rudimentary limited to medieval or renaissance era stuff.

Its a metal bowl with a lron/copper liner and gunpowder sandwiched between the two. So I want wanted to penetrate the armor of a modern main battle tank which is what? 1k-1.5k~ mm of RHA? I need a metal bowl with at least a 1 meter radius. I can store that in my pocket dimension and shoot the EFP slug with unleash. I'm probably going to play it safe and just commission a 2, 3 or even a 5 meter radius EFP warhead made, just to penetrate those iron mass abusing hunters.

And this is just a metal bowl with a sheet of iron and copper on it, simple and basic stuff any competent blacksmith can hammer out with the most basic tools.

You forget muscle tearing is a pretty common thing on smaller level, happening all the time you exert yourself or extended periods of time or very heavily. Huge chunks of muscle just ripping happens rather rarely and mostly after adding up a whole lot of micro tears and/or really akward posture and/or too high exertion at once.

I do kind of agree with you, but only because it's a human flaw, and not the CYOA's fault. PvE is always underestimated and PvP overestimated. The CYOA is 90% PvE and 10% PvP. Exempt also exists. But the paranoia the PvP poses strikes more than that of the monsters. However, I think everyone would piss their pants when facing a monster the first time.

Remember that the people bitching about the mandatory PVP always claim Exemption is a massive cost instead of a reasonable portion of your points. They're not planning on going out and hunting dragons, they're mad they can't coast on slimes without giving up everything.

The idea of a 'meta' is the biggest mistake. A few threads on /tg/ where everyone can see each others' builds before making one (or more) of their own isn't representative of what this would 'actually' be like. It would generally tend towards a more random distribution of builds, with people prioritizing safety more than they do here.

Of course, a proper party can shore up his weaknesses a great deal, but he certainly didn't 'solve' the CYOA.

Because Bliss the author said guns and explosives worked the same way in MH as it does in the real world. He was so concerned about people taking legendary weapon just to get a fully customized legendary gun that he simply didn't allow it to happen and required skull weaponry and another skill I can't remember right now in order to get a gun.

In addition the only divine intervention you'd get is if you're a terrible hunter and the Master of the Hunt simply boots you out of his domain or worse, hunt you down and kill you like prey.

Enchanted gun as in an ancient weapon with skull weaponry in order to allow it to shoot. So basically it's just allowed because skull weaponry, which is under the control of the cyoa rather than real physics. He also said that charge up allowd it to be more of a sniper and flurry like a rapid fire. I'm going to play devil's advocate here for shits and giggles.

All seeing eye gives 360 degree vision and a zoom in function, killer instinct gives improved tracking, night, x-ray and blood vision. Between the two abilities the build can't be caught off guard by stealth builds unless he's sleeping or his eyes are incapacitated for some reason.

He assumes the explosives he plans to make will be enough to penetrate the armor and toughness of defense. This is the only argument that can't debated because we know next to nothing of how hunters compare to real life military weapon performances or how much magic nullifies his bombs, shaped charged and EFP warheads. But he certainly can fight magic with magic, with enchantment and arcane magic he make his explosives do arcane magic damage.

His only weakness is traps, magic and psionics, poisons, toxins and venoms, in addition to having comparatively low stamina due to lacking well stamina, so he won't do well in prolonged engagements. But I get the impression from his build that he plans to do hit and run attack and run away on his soul spirit steed, so if everything goes well his low stamina and endurance isn't a problem.

He can solve literally all those weaknesses by taking detect magic, poison and indomitable, which means raising his strength up to 2 and probably dropping both SPD and SKL down to 9.

The skills he might need to exchange in order to do so is probably losing charge up, blade arms and flurry, this way his close combat potential suffers a lot, but if all he's going to do is throw a bomb attached to a knife in people's faces, he doesn't need to be master of CQC just the ability to chuck the damn within the vicinity of the target and quickly and with 9 speed and skill he certainly can.

I plan to get the souls of an arachnid, a fox, and a strange, and use the former for weaving enchanted robes, and the latter two for combat.
