Demiplane is vast savanna scattered with mountains, crawling with monsters and eldritch abominations. Plane affinity so that we can train various animals as pets for hunting and guarding things. Have village of diverse and exotic amazons that have culture obsessed with hunting and slaying monsters, kind of like Norn in GW except amazons and not shapeshifters. They'd hunt giant serpents that hide under the sand, nomadic centaurs, and giant carnivorous birds that live on top of mountains. Amazons live as tribe that shares everything and are very cooperative for survival. Forging strong weapons and training hunting pets are important to them. I live in tower and am leader of the amazons because of powerful elemental magic that is strongest close to my tower and because I can turn into a dragon to fight off biggest monsters. Take form change so I can be tall, strong amazon. Occasionally travel to earth when things are calm to check how everything is back home.

I did Picking-A-Goddess last night.

It's not bad, but it's plagued with obvious typos and it doesn't seem to have any real criteria for what splits the difficulties apart. A couple of the God options are actually on par with mortals with regards to difficulty, and the Eldritch options are "well they're otherworldly terror beasts that don't understand shit but waifus I guess?"

There's also no real reason to go too high into the difficulties because after a point the options that you would actually spend tokens on become overkill, and Mortal + Monotheistic is 6 Tokens by itself.

It's not strong on fluff unless you're into harem anime (I'm a pretty big haremfag and I found it to be wasteful to try to juggle more than 3 at a time), and it's mechanically a mess.

Fun, but doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Monster Hunter is literally the most perfect CYOA.

Incredibly inviting graphics and a colourful scheme. No space is wasted and is a balanced 3 images. There are small details everywhere. Even the background follows your initiation. Even the descriptions are short and sweet for the layout but explanatory enough to understand and imagine.

The lore ties in extremely well with folklore, and the fickle greek/nordic gods who are more chaotic and self-serving rather than good. Every option tells a piece of that world.

The power section is a unique, and balanced system where melee, ranged, magic and special are all equally attractive and synergize well with eachother.
The stats are done well considering a cyoa. Stats are used as a measurement of power but it is not decisive in who would win, considering the utility of skills and the circumstances.
The option to choose a territory or fight particular monster only is incredibly balanced too, allowing a player to freely choose according to preference and rewards. These are interesting monsters and areas.
The events incite drama and conflict, while all rewards are tempting and useful. The hard but balanced choices of a more difficult hunt vs more tools vs luxury is excellent. It also allows some customization of the player and a non-obnoxious monstergirl waifu awoo section.

>PvE and PvP
Not everyone agrees with this, but PvP is well done for a number of options.
1. Optional, but costly to avoid. Rather than incintive to participate, one is forced to opt out instead.
2. It adjust playstyles and punishes min-maxers.
3. What you do is completely up to you. You can run, you can hide, you can fight, form friends, hire protection, rape, murder. Nothing is off limits for a couple of weeks.
4. It is a trial of survival at its finest. It culls the weak. Let's be honest, those monster aren't the scariest out there. Can you really trust people without civilization and rules?

Author of that build here. There are many insane Travelers and the test intentionally doesn't exclude them. The test is about if you ARE a traveler and the Watchmaker is. I may not have written this part up but I made them a prophet of the third because their strike is SUPPOSED to happen for the greater good (yes it cascades into all three red options). They do not see themselves as a traitor to the Travelers, simply the instrument of a greater will.

I think it's fine. It's not my favorite CYOA and it's never inspired me to make more than one build for it, nor wonder about the outcome or impact such a build might have on the world. It doesn't draw me in. But there's nothing wrong with it really. I never had issue with the PvP aspect or any other common complaints it sees. A fast and agile rogue-like character with some magic tricks up her sleeve. With fast, hard hitting attacks she can stagger opponents leaving them vulnerable. That's the beauty of it the Watchmaker does not even have to "succeed" to accomplish their goal. First off catching an Augur is pretty tricky, and their "plan" would be very difficult to discern since it is not really a plan. The Watchmaker may not even know that attacking the clock tower is their purpose, all they know is to follow the voices. One way or another they die in their attack, but then what? Even if stopped things would happen as a result. Admin would likely feel better security was needed and this could be the spark that causes all the trouble. For one thing the tower might be re-designated a military installation and thus taken away from the collectors, Glendale might be removed to create a perimeter around the tower, the items the commercialists are allowed to sell might be further restricted, a crackdown on the children of the atom could occur as a result of the "Tall Johnny" (freaking out the inheritors), the current recruitment test might be called into question, and the Watchmakers status as a person touched by the 3rd could create all sorts of issues (we know Igra does not like them).

I will say that the culling is needlessly harsh but I also think you're far exaggerating how quickly and effectively one hunter could kill another. If somebody even could make a build that would kill your build in a straight up confrontation every time, unless you're just standing around an open field like a moron for a week straight there's a lot more to it than that. Make friends, run, hide, hamstring other hunters, whatever.

Even if whatever build you're afraid of spent 100% of their time killing and hunting for whatever reason I don't see why you're so afraid unless you went out of your way to piss them off personally.Yes, bad things MIGHT happen, but you can just buy your way out of it if it's that big of a deal. "Taran! We were in the vicinity. So, how was it?" The girl hands Taran a piece of paper and a quill. He signs uninterested. "The same as usual. Tracked him for an hour, though, he was with a pack. Two Ancient Wolves. As if one is difficult enough." The girl takes the paper, checks it and order the boys to carry the corpse to the cart. "Well, we thank you for using the Sunken Scavenger services, yadda yadda, see you around!" The boys, now coated in fur and blood, waves to Taran. "North, time to hunt in the ruins." Taran talks to no one in particular, unsheating the swords on his back. Mornings are always so full of work.

I'm an arcane trapmaster - though lacking a bit in stealth, I can Combine my Bindings with Psionic attacks for instant (partial) domestication, Gravity to keep the victims off/on the ground (or freeze them in place by removing kinetic energy), or Barriers to just box them in. Then, the Scavengers pick them up and drag them back to town for me to keep, sell, or kill as I please.
I can also use Enchanting to put more permanent versions of those effects on collars, physical traps, and more creative media - enchanted foods, perhaps?
Beyond that, I'd take the best Kitsune soul I can find (probably from the Desert - Barrier, Gravity, and One With Nature should protect from the environmental hazards) and spend my time collecting magic from the Ruins and having fun in town - depending on town placement, both at the same time.

No, I'm talking about how it seems like you have three seasons of doing fuckall towards your quota before the Master of the Hunt kicks you out.

Using my build (>>50384257) as an example, the first season could be spent on the basics - practicing flight with Gravity, learning about proper trap placement, boning up on the environments at the Library, etc. At the end of this season, I'd get a firm warning about my quota.
The second season would focus on more advanced techniques - which traps are effective on which monsters which frequent which places, designing more potent traps, and practicing capturing real monsters (albeit weaker ones). If I haven't gotten a single kill at the end of this season, I'd get most or all of my rewards revoked.
The third season would be knuckle-down time - going out into my territories, spreading traps everywhere, and trying to fill the first quota. Given that I've taken terrains instead of monsters, I can fill the quota I don't make by levitating Slimes (or any other non-flying, non-ranged creature) off the ground and launching rocks through them with Gravity. If I was so shitty at fighting that literal superpowers and half an Earth year of training doesn't prepare me for this, then I wouldn't have fared much better taking piss-easy monsters and getting dropped into the Culling.

Sounds like a solid plan to me. Personally I am working on improving my armor and weapons. I have throwing stones for ranged combat, a quaterstaff for melee combat, and I wear half plate armor with gauntlets and greaves to maximize my potential agility and defensive prowess as well as augment my hand to hand combat.

The best thing you can do is combo Gravity Warp and Time Warp to make a Stasis spell. It'll immobilize the target, and it's a matter of just strike it with heavy attacks. I don't know if I'm capable of taking down a dragon, though. The biggest thing I fought was a Boss Wurm in the Deep Ruins. Almost died, but since I had a wolf soul with me, I was able to pinpoint its attack patterns.

Barring secret passages across the entire island magically barred to monsters (and also during the Culling), there isn't a whole ton that would protect against wild monsters but not sedated ones.

I mean, if I drop Recall for Poison, I could slap another layer of "this dude ain't getting up" in the form of sleep toxin. Or finagle Water and Frost in there and freeze monsters in a solid block of ice.

The others (that I remember) are all very nice, altough sometimes I feel like they could be more complete in some aspects. I really like Pick-a-Goddess for instance, so I think he has a very good waifu creation ability, yet it is so little utilized in Armored Core, and almost not used at all the Dark Souls-like CYOA, etc.
That said, I also don't have much problem with "used goods", so I might be an exception.

Job hours are poorly explained. When it says "Day, 6 hours" I'm not sure if that means 6 hours every day, or 6 hours one day per week, or anything in between (eg 5 days a week) or any other increment such as one day per month/year/your entire stay (obviously this doesn't make much sense but it can be read that way)

My assumption based on the way it's put together is that it would be 6 hours per week, because that's the same way owners are set up and would allow you to have multiple jobs "on different days". I'm not the author, but in previous version it only said that you could take jobs up to 12 hours worth of jobs, not 12 hours per day, so the distribution isn't really important for the sake of choosing jobs and gaining credits.

Alright, I'm thinking of converting some tables for creating a post apocalyptic raider gang/truce I made a while back into a CYOA but I've got some questions. What's a good image size for CYOA? It'll probably require at least three pages and I'm doing it in paint. Also, how do you feel about multiple types of points in one CYOA? I've got stuff for defining the cultural part, stuff for defining the material part, and some stuff for defining the warlord stuff.

Ey mate, I appreciate that. I've made a bunch more progress since then, as I've set up most of the stuff I wanted for the first few pages and wrote their appropriate descriptions. The only thing left for that is filling those particular pages with images.

I'm also in the middle of drafting a pilot customization page as well as a companions page. The latter won't be just limited to combat support, I plan on including a few logistics and general support personnel as well. I feel like their personality types are a bit lackluster right now however, so if anyone has a specific personality archetype in mind that they would want to see (for female, male, robutt, whatever), give me a shout and I'll work on including it.

For now, you can also have your mecha be a mechafu by giving it fully sentient AI if that's your sort of thing. Why even have pilots at that point? I don't know, I'll make something up like with most of the genre.
