Fucking Dwarves. They refuse to cooperate even while we are IN THE ACT OF DIRECTLY SAVING THEIR LIVES and refuse to even acknowledge that we dragged their fucking king out of Drowtroit in once piece. We don't have a way to deal with this bullshit yet.

The dwarves in my current campaign are all bunkering down because some asshole is trying to end the world.

Normally that would be understandable but we kind of need their help to stop said asshole and they won't give it because they're pretty sure they can survive the apocalypse by hanging out underground. They're plan for surviving the aftermath basically boils down to 'dealing with it' whatever the fuck that means.

There's also evidence that the oracle heirarchy is knowingly allowing their people to be manipulated by a dragon, which is just swell.

They haven't even been the least bit helpful to us so far, and have actually hampered our attempts to smooth things over between them and the orcs (who aren't even really doing anything, they just happen to be traveling through the dwarves' mountains).

So far my dislike of them has been completely justified.

Halflings, they are loud, obnoxious and they "borrow" everything from you. Doesn't help that our Halfling player betrayed us as well so there is zero trust to that race amongst our group.

That said the betrayal was fun and no hard feelings and it's great that every character who isn't really tight knitted actually have a common thing to hate.

But they are also portrayed as being very, very insular. I mean, they never even knew the mines of Moria were lost until they walked in.

Tieflings are probably the most hated race overall, given they're the core of an incredibly expansionist and totalitarian empire. They also have a a habit of summoning demons to solve all their problems with results going about as well as you'd expect.

There's also the Orcs and the Drow. Orcs are hated because they're the barbarian raiders on every frontier and use the corpses of the dead to bolster their numbers. Drow are isolated but they're at perpetual war with literally everyone and recently razed three major cities and a whole lot of forest to the ground.

Adventurers.

Every time any kingdom or empire or even religion gets above a certain size, a small group of culturally diverse misfits with special abilities show up and fuck behead it, plunging the continent into civil war and ignorance for another hundred years.

Every single time, they latch on to a single bad apple in the whole bunch and use him as an excuse to kill fucking thousands of people. Most of the time, that bad apple isn't even all that bad, he just made some bad policy decisions or was kind of corrupt.

Trying to prevent adventurers from arising in the first place and keeping these bands from forming just comes off as persecution, provoking an adventurer murder spree against the evil state and plunging the continent into darkness for a hundred years.

That's why there are so many dungeons filled with traps and treasure around, by the way. Because of dumbfuck 'righteous' adventurers, modern civilization is build upon the graves of hundreds of forgotten kingdoms and their fortresses and keeps, all of which got embroiled with mary sue murderhobos and lost.

They can't be reasoned with, they are individually very powerful, and trying to kill them off just means that any adventurers that survive the purges are the most powerful ones AND they now hate you.
Paying off adventurers sometimes works, but usually not for long. They are notorious money sinks, and the moment you can no longer afford to pay them you draw their ire. If you squeeze the economy to raise the funds to pay the adventurers, you are now the evil empire that opposes the people so the adventurers kill you anyway.

The future depends on figuring out how to make sure that adventurers are somehow stopped. Otherwise, we will be stuck in this endless cycle of greed and violence forever.

If your particular profession depends on having an untamed and while frontier, then the course of action that most directly aligns with your self-interest is to maximize wilderness and adventure and minimize civilization, but not so much that you can't be supported by civilization.

Another alternate solution to civilization is, rather than trying to eliminate the adventurous spirit, to instead open up new frontiers for them to adventure in, and to civilize the world while the adventurers are busy slaughtering the non-local shit.

Humans.
Believe it or not, but when you not so accidentally kill your own planet, make a huge amount of poorly built arc ships and fill them with all kinds of assholes not particularly caring to at least match them (so there can be like ships one half full of hardcore Muslims and other half of zealots Christians) then let them fly away in every direction, not caring for their or everyone else safety, while building for your elite a decadent, most opulent space ships and fill them with all kinds of arrogant assholes and send straight to supposed "paradise" planet. Then by VERY surprised when their "paradise" was actually an asteroid thanks for some "miscalculation" it somehow draws ire from far more civilized and enlightened races. Or several less civilized and/or enlightened.

Long story short, humans in my setting are space gypsies and pirates with no permanent home, culture or government and bringing everywhere troubles and dissenting. The space council still can't decide what to do with them - annihilate or brainwash into proper citizens or just tuck them away somewhere far away from every other civilizations. They already killed several ambassadors from said space council for being "unfuckable".

Its less them making sure there is always some place to adventure, and more that they are willing to slap the 'BBEG' moniker on literally any large organization that they believe to not be literally perfect in any way/they manage to get into a fight with. The larger the organization and the more adventurers there are, the high and higher the chances that some dipshit farmboy who hasn't had a day of education in his life will find a magic sword in a tree, go off and become and adventurer, and decide that your taxes are 'unfair' and that the 'evil king' must be stopped.

It doesn't matter if you are the most progressive king the land has seen in generations, or if you have been working miracles to keep the tax rate as low as it is. THIS ONE GUY thinks you are being evil, and he will behead the entire government and plunge the land into civil war as a result. And he has a magic sword and character levels, so you probably can't stop him.

Gnomes. Always gnomes. I had a party destroy a room full of 40 of the bastards using the gnomes own pet Rhino against them to fucking pin 4-5 of the little fuckers against the wall at a time. The rhino had to take actions to shake pinned gnomes off his horn. The gnomes weren't even hostile, the party just hated gnomes that much. The hammer wielding dwarf was literally swatting them across the room.
