Have you ever used Dragons in your games?
I think they're supposed to be somewhat common-ish, or at least that's the picture I've gotten from Dragons Revisited.
Something like "Dragons? Oh, haven't seen one myself but one visited the next town south some three years ago, I think?"

I don't get why people are getting discouraged. Because NToRacle has an interesting backstory now? Or because he is such a good skill monkey?
>>
Does anyone have that one pdf with suggestions to fix or differentiate the various martial styles in Pathfinder?
>>
>>50359895
Because all the NTR discussion is annoying and disgusting.
>>
>>50359895
Both considering he's a better skill monkey than most other people and also is an amalgam of shit other people wanted to do.

And honestly I think it's less interesting than the Dwarf.
>>
>>50359895
Both of those reasons, plus a bit more. Putting work into a character only to have it ignored over "lolNTR", "lolTHICC" isn't motivating. It also make it harder to refine the character when nobody will discuss weakpoints or areas that you could improve on.
>>
>>50359903

Wasn't blaming them, but the topic has dominated the past how many threads?
>>
>>50359936
After a certain point, he's complicit in this too because he intentionally made a diplomancer meant to break the romance system.
>>
>>50359950
Literally not how the romance system works.
>>
>>50359950
The whole thing started when he build a crazy high op diplomancer with the intent of progressing with each of the options, but only ending with ameiko or whatever.

He brought this upon all of us.
>>
>>50359955
I mean it pretty much is. The character gets a +52 to whatever they need once a day, the Highest max relationship score is like a 40.
>>
>>50359999
No, you need to raise your relationship above their romance score. All high diplomacy means is he makes the check so every level it progresses by 2 instead of 1. The majority of a character's relationship score with a character is based on events and not gifts/insults.

Do people not actually read the rules for it?
>>
>>50360017
I'm aware, but that's +1 more than what everyone else is getting.
>The majority of a character's relationship score with a character is based on events
I was honestly not aware of this.

I mean that still doesn't change the fact that he built the character pretty much to cheese the system like that. The fact that he seems to be an almagam of several character talents/motivations that have been posted in both threads is also suspect., but I'm not going to fault him for that.
>>
>>50359967
>crazy high OP
he literally took 3 human racial feats
>>
>>50360017

I've tallied the event scores and you still don't have enough unless you spec into diplomacy and play the gift game.

Fighters get shafted in that system.

How's everyone's homebrews coming along, /pfg/?

I just did a massive rehaul with my Avatar class for balance and fluff purposes. Tell me what you think of it, now?

Its a Divine Barbarian, that transforms into an Elemental. He gains access to Wraths, which boosts his elemental transformation, granting him staples like a breath attack, as well as other more unique abilities like controlling nonmagical flames or quicksanding foes.
>>
>>50360017
It's still 4 from trait + charisma + 2 for a gift at each level and all that's before roleplaying major events well, which he'll likely do.

>>50360047
Are you telling me that a +52 to whatever they need 1/day is not crazy high op?
>>
>>50360042

They list the secret events in the back of the books and it's only like, one or two events that give a +2 to someone.

Assuming you complete every secret event and recognize leveling up adds a +1, you're looking at like, a 36-38 for Ameiko in the Book 6 endgame.
>>
>>50360047
To cheese out his diplomacy score super high for no reason other than to bust this system at the behest of memes.

He's also on file for saying he planned to try to increase the romance score for everyone but only end up with ameiko. That's where the NTR thing came in from. And a +32 once a day is still enough to cheese the relationship system for a +2 with nat 1's until 24, which would probably come after he get's more of a bonus to diplo, so it'd go even farther.

Number 2 is the LG website since I think everyone makes more there.

Nah, the Tactician and Vitalist are in the middle of the group, not at the forefront.

If you're fighting instead of sharing buffs and transferring hitpoints, you're not doing your job right.

Doesn't matter if you invest in 2 mental stats, you'll barely ever use your physical stats except Dex.

Not to mention, you essentially take on the role of party leader, party face and party healer. Your group will suck your dick.

>>
>>50360266
Even with fully dumped 8s in all three physical stats you're still not an invalid. Scrawny and worthy of some mockery at the gym, plus you throw like a girl, but you're nowhere near invalid.

Honestly, no one's gonna take a quadraplegic out adventuring with them anyways unless they can permanently effortlessly float wherever and do all the things that need doing without any limbs. Liabilities are bad.
>>
>>50360299
Not really, he could just play an old character.
elderly drop their physical stats a raise their mental stats.

A vitalist / tactician would be like a general or de facto leader or team dad. He doesn't need to be the biggest baddest brute in the group, because he's just as invaluable as a wizard.
>>
>>50360299
I guess 7-8's aren't so bad for most of my physical stats. Especially if I can do a bunch for my allies. I'll play some small race and ride on someone's back so I can use them for cover.

Dragoon.jpg

>>50359839
Have not used dragons, would love to use dragoons. Their shtick is jumping - they're supposed to in fluff be anti-dragon 'knights' capable of actually battling them in the skies due to their extreme jumping and ability to safe-fall, they can go *up* to fight a flying dragon and stay up to fight multiple, they're sort of lightning-bruisers, really evasive in combat.

Probably doable via piercing thunder / primal fury.

FF4 has a funny distinction in the after years where regular dragoons can become "Holy dragoons" and use some white magic in addition to their leaping abilities.

FF9 (in its early prototypes) had dragoons emulate a single dragon: Males often emulating the mighty sky-dragon bahamut, and Women often emulating the terrifying water-dragon Leviathan. One of the main party members is a knight/dragoon and in addition to jumping she also throws her spear quite a bit.

FF14 treats lancers/dragoons as a melee dps that likes to attack from the sides or rear.

Legend of Mana also has dragoons, and they're often identified as "dragon knights" imbued with a fraction of the dragons power - capable of fighting along side the dragon either in air or on ground, they are also rather goddamn good at killing dragons.
>>
>>50360309
I once played a Dragoon.

Soulknife.
Used the teleportation blade trick to emulate jump.

Since I'm using a mindblade, I can throw my spears without worry.

Dragoon needed a LOT of love. Much like many people hoped Cataclysm would be all about the Shaman in WoW (except probably the actual elemental players on the forums; they've looped around past the deep end of jaded and back across a hundred times before, they knew they'd take it up the ass), the Dragoon was in a bad bad place, doing meh DPS despite low utility and with animation lockdowns that were absolutely fatal once you got around to EX bosses.

They needed the help, and from what I'm told they're far more playable now than they were.
>>

One of the biggest problems is everything is completely interchangeable.

So I'm aware that there's a DC10 fly check to avoid losing 10 feet of altitude after taking damage... Shouldn't that be DC10+[damage value]?

Cause it seems to me like a part of what dragoons did was very large singular "fuckoff" strikes that brought their flying opponents down to the ground (if it didnt outright kill them). You see in the heavensward video 4 separate dragoons land their jumping attacks against a dragon to bring it down.

>>50360361
I'm aware. Part of it too was that dragoons had like 0 magic resistance on their gear, so getting hit by a spell just completely destroyed you (you were supposed to be using jump to avoid magic damage I guess?) but in boss fights there were unavoidable aoes, or aoes in general that if you jumped to avoid you'd end up eating shit from something else.

I like how FF14 ones use a lot more halberd like weapons - it seems to lend their weapons a lot of weight and give them something outside of thrusting attacks when on ground.

>would love to use dragoons.

You probably didn't notice this, but dragoon vault-crashing is legit powerful in PF thanks to falling damage rules.

"Rule: Creatures that fall take 1d6 points of damage per 10 feet fallen, to a maximum of 20d6. Just as characters take damage when they fall more than 10 feet, so too do they take damage when they are hit by falling objects. If an object falls more than 150 feet, it deals double the listed damage. Note that a falling object takes the same amount of damage as it deals."

At a height of 150 ft. you could deal 20d6x2 against anything below.

Feather Fall is a first level spell, it's not unreasonable to give them a class feature at say second level that says "You don't take falling damage" (maybe with the stipulation that you have to be concious, and the upgrading it at later levels to outright you don't take falling damage).

Just don't start going on like that one guy a few weeks back that pretended he could add his falling damage twice and then quadruple it as a charge or some other bullshit, since that was fake as fuck.

Anyways, 20d6x2 isn't bad, but it's also not great: For all the movement/time/actions involved you're doing only 40-240, for an average of 140 damage. Which is... well it's okay at level 10, but beyond that is no longer a reliable killing blow. Even as a pounce you'd probably have been better off just pouncing.

One's best bet would simply to be allowed to count enough vertical movement as substituting for being mounted when charging, allowing you to lance things using gravity as your horse. It's simple, straightforward, and allows as much or little scaling as you can pull off with other existing stuff.
>>
>>50360455

Its an MMO armor. MMO's almost always make the female characters have some sort of sex appeal, and they tend to bulk men the fuck out.

In the Non-MMO's dragoons were always well covered, usually wearing a breastplate with gauntlets + greaves, or a suit of light plate.

Most cars have a little button for it nowadays dude.

The seats heat. In fact they get pretty damn hot; the most common use of that button (especially since they're no longer button, just touch-capacitance spots on the console) is accidentally brushing against it when you're going for something else, and only realizing it two minutes later when your ass is fucking burning hot.

Fucking this.
Every other monster race at least has a schtick that makes sense, but goblins had their only traits ripped out and replaced with WACKY shit to the point where they should have gone extinct.

Paizo goblins are such a fucking forced meme.

Kineticists of Porphyra (not sure spelling on that last one).

There's 3 books already out, they're MASSIVE, MASSIVE upgrades to the Kineticist; to the point where they can actually be not only played but actually good. With all 4 books you may actually be looking at a tier 3 if using the right archetypes (most definitely if combined with Gambler or Avant-Garde)

Thing you're missing is that the 'doubled damage' is OBJECTS.

OBJECTS have a set damage based on their size, which doubles after 150ft.

Falling CREATURES use the scaling d6es, and don't double after 150.

>KOP=Kineticists of Porphyra
It's the series I wrote that helped make the kineticist a far more viable class, with new elements like light, time, sound, poison, and viscera as well as new talents and awesome new archetypes like the hex kineticist and the dimensional ripper.

If you liked the kineticist but hated how little content came out for it, I'd check it out.
>>
>>50360522
>Not falling damage

Yes, falling object damage. Unless you're gonna tell me a large creature falling on top of you deals the same d6 damage as a medium creature?
>>
>>50360530
>Falling CREATURES use the scaling d6es, and don't double after 150.

Which I think is inconsistent with the rules.
Objects and Creatures both fall at the same speed, disregarding wind resistance, etc.

They should both be expected to deal damage scaled by their size and deal double past 100ft.
>>
>>50360533
I liked the idea of kineticists, but they were like fucking 17 pages of text just to explain basic class features and even then they didn't do it well.

I just wanted to fucking do ninpo hand-signs fire-blasting magic and the niggers had to make it a feat of mental gymnastics to do.

The class was supposed to emulate the warlock of 3.5 which was stupidly simple.
>>
>>50360525
They can, well, warsouls can, and "emulate ranged weapon" on basic soulknives can do heavies but not regular firearms as well; although Emulate Ranged completely fails since the entire point is getting around the filthy charge problem (although at least you're saving five to six digit GPs that you'd waste on a 2d6 elemental weapon you'd have gotten both stronger and cheaper just from enchanting Energy on normal guns).

Emulating tech weapons is legit, it's making them useful that requires not only emulation but a full build around them a-la-gunslinger.

Personally I'd never even bother unless maybe if playing a Gestalt; you literally do more damage for less effort by using Discipline Shapes on normal 'advanced' guns.
>>
>>50360547

The issue is with how pathfinder treats objects - they functionally have inherent damage reduction due to hardness/thickness that if they didnt have their damage doubled, they wouldnt *take* damage from falling (and even then if the object is big enough it doesn't).

The issue with soulknifes emulating weapons particularly technological and advanced firearms is that, they shouldn't even exist to be 'emulated' from.

Not exactly the same but closer than you think.

Falling objects have set damage: A Huge boulder at 145ft vs the same boulder at 11ft will deal 6d6 (medium is 3d6). If it falls MORE than 150ft (so not 150 but 155+ since movement's rounded to 5s) it doubles this. The end.

To do 20d6 you already HAVE doubled a colossal object from going over 150ft height. A medium creature, IF it gets to count as a falling object (I'd allow it) would deal 6d6, and take its own full 20d6 falling damage (likely with 1d6 converted to nonlethal because soft target), by RAW.

At level 10, the average monster HP is 130. This is what you aim for in average DPR.

So you're a fine second-line combatant; as long as you're not the team's primary damage dealer (as in the others are under you) then it's good, although that nova makes you perfectly fine for primary DPR *IF* you can pull it off at least 3-4 times a day (if it's a 1/day nova it's as I aid before).

The second set of numbers is perfect for the level; marginally-below-average rolls will still kill one equal CR per round - which unless playing PFS or basic adventures is what parties end up needing to be capable of (for PFS you're gonna get idiots on the forums screaming to have your build banned if you do 80 let alone 130).

In the second case, you can even say that unless you're ranged, the nova number is actually too high; if you can kill two that's great, but if it's all on a single target with a full attack, that's rather a waste, and that power would be better spent improving other aspects of yourself.

I say this as someone who's used "the Yamato's Wave-Motion Cannon" as a character concept here; it's not that you deal "too much" damage, but rather that you're pigeonholeng yourself out of too much (unless gestalt of course in which case it probably happened quite naturally and forget what I said) by going that deep towards the DPR end of things, and may be suffering extensively in other areas.

Keep that mainstay DPR around the second rating, but feel free to roll your nova back to the former and even down in exchange for greater versatility elsewhere, whether that elsewhere is AoE, multitargeting, or something noncombat entirely.

The damage scaling and shapes are good, but the base pulse just feels off.
Dealing untyped damage is fine for the base ability, but maybe it should gain a type for some of the shapes and pacts? I know mechanically it makes sense but having say, a fire elemental pact avowed able to just go 'whoops you're fire resistant? lemme switch to raw magic' is odd.

For the ability to make pacts gained at 14th level, the avowed doesn't seem to gain anything from doing so. I figure there should be at least some sort of signing bonus.

Other than that I'm in love with the class, eagerly awaiting the betrothed archetype (come on both sides playable as PC's!) and really hoping that a teased Dungeon Lord archetype lets you play dungeon keeper.

3 from class skill, 4 from intimidating prowess, 3 from ranks, 1 from either charisma or intelligence via bruising intellect, 2 from a masterwork skill kit. You should have at least +13, and probably more through either gravelly tonic, potion of enlarge person, or both.
>>
>>50363538
Right now it's
+3 class skill
+3 ranks
+4 Intimidating Prowess
+3 Charisma
+3 Skill Focus
Total of +16, if I use a potion of Enlarge Person or get a caster to cast it it's +20

>>50363588
Don't use skill focus, it's a feat for +3 doesn't scale. The skill kit is 50 gold for +2. Also, with intimidating prowess Enlarge Person is a +5, since it increases your strength.

Compare the DC you'll have to beat. At level 3 opponents will probably have 5/6 HD at most, and +4 to wisdom at most. That's a DC 20 to beat. If you go for Adopted - Ifrit (Fiery Glare) as your other trait you'll beat it every time.

Basically yes, if you go Bred for War you can't, or at least shouldn't, also be going Fiery Glare, unless you can justify a Shoanti tribesman being raised by Ifrits.

In regards to the Faceless Enforcer, you can still decorate your mask, or refluff entirely so that the mask or helmet is his facepaint.

Kitsune are, since they went back to the original myth of kitsune being ascended foxes. In Pathfinder kitsune aren't just people with fox ears/tails, they're foxes with human bodies.

Generally speaking you can get a masterwork [skill] item as long as it is limited to one aspect of a skill; for instance, a Masterwork Item that grants a +2 bonus to Intimidate for the purpose of Demoralize (but not for any other purpose).
>>
>>50363956
That's something else you'd have to ask. I've had GMs accept it, with the reasoning being that Adopted lets you take a race trait as a social trait.

So my players got themselves poisoned because one of them botched a Survival-check and brought back some mushrooms. The Alchemist rolled good on his Knowledge Nature, and knew (and told them) it was poisonous, and used as a hallucinogenic by witches. This prompted half the group to eat the mushrooms, and they've been failing their Fort-saves for well over an hour by now.
And now I want to know if I'm reading it correctly. Specifically, they suffer from this: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/afflictions/poison/red-bedlam
So just to make sure:
This poison kicks in every 10 minutes, causing them to be confused for that round (or the 6 seconds out of combat, whichever).
They can make a save to stop this every time, and are cured when they can do this two times in a row.
It does not "wear off" by itself if left alone.
>>
First time playing Unchained Rogue, with Debilitating Injury do you apply any amount of effects or only one?
>>
>>50364142
>http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/afflictions/poison/red-bedlam
You're reading it wrong. It kicks in after 10 minutes, once a minute for 10 minutes, or until they pass two consecutive saves, whichever comes first.

The difference in height didn't bother her. She was taller than the average Tian woman, or the average Tian man for that matter, so there was some comfort in being smaller, in not being the giant that she felt herself at times. Not next to him, by a good three feet. And she could see that there was more to him than his surface. He was rough spoken and clumsy, but beneath that his soul was strong and pure. And he could dance, putting motions to the song that ran through her heart, joining his joy to hers. Even more than that, he understood what it meant to be a samurai. He knew the pride she gained from the title, and the shame she had felt when she was forced to give it up. There was a bond between them, that of a shared respect for duty and hard work that many others didn't appreciate. But there was more than that. A leaping feeling like a song she had never learned.

She was in love.

The thought of starting in something comfy (Burnt Offerings) and going to play the AP that WOULD have been my first introduction to pathfinder (being, in this case, Jade Regent) appeals to me greatly, though. Admittedly if I really wanted to revive that first spark I'd be bringing back my very first character concept instead of making a new one, but unfortunately for me I don't know how to properly spec a natural attacker in a PoW/Spheres game..

Okay! So!

First things first, there's the various Caravan Guilds and Guides that help groups travel the Path of Aganhei over the Crown of the World, very important! Many of these groups engage in all sorts of underhanded tactics to make sure they're the ones caravans go to for help.

Secondly, there are the Frozen Shadows, a Ninja Clan operating out of Kalsgard that conduct the will of The Five Storms, the Generals of the Jade Regent and powerful Oni who wish to see Minkai ruled under their fiendish grip.

Thirdly, there are ambitious shop owners like the previously mentioned brothel, lots of chances to just ruin someone's day in Kalsgard!

Finally, it's worth noting that crime as we know it isn't especially common in Kalsgard; there are brawls and fights aplenty yes, but those tend to resolve themselves with a good ole group forming around the fighting pair taking bets who will win. Genuine crime like thievery tends to result in one of Kalsgard's oldest traditions being enforced; if a man or woman calls for aid that someone had stolen their goods or is assaulting them, everyone who hears it is *legally required* to come to their aid.

But anon, the character I think my retired swordlord would have an adorable romantic relationship with hasn't been posted yet!

This isn't to say the current characters aren't great, I just can't see Casimir having anything more than a friendship with them - Anja in particular would be like a little sister to him, and I can't not see him try to teach Onryou to dance if he found out about her interest.

Heck, I figure he'd be very open about that kind of stuff, if anyone wants something Crafted or taught how to Craft he'd probably be up for it (he's currently got points in Jewelry, Clothing, Armor, Weapons and Painting, with enough to make Masterworks from all of them.)

Casimir would be opposed to Khair's goals if he discovered the lad's interest in replacing his body. That just doesn't sit well with him, since although Casimir's a well-traveled man he's still a Rostlander, who are infamously parochial and damn proud about it.

I'll be DMing my first campaign on Sunday, anyone have any advice or anything? Should I use a premade campaign, or should I come up with my own? I'd like to eventually work it into a larger campaign once everyone in my group becomes a little more familiar with Pathfinder.

Also, is it possible to play without a mat/grid/whatever? I'm ordering one, but there's no way it's gonna get here by the time I play.

There is no such thing as greater good
that is pure rhetoric
make actual good goal something that players want to oppose

Evil acts are evil so alignment shift so bye bye being a cleric of that deity though

Do they have to be an (actual) part of the church? Could they be a follower of another deity that was able to use magic to infiltrate and become an important member?

Well you make it so hes the BBGG instead of the BBEG, obviously.
Good doesn't mean "everybody wants this to happen". For example a lawful good cleric might be preparing some ritual to purge all evil thoughts from the inhabitants of a city, but players might not like the whole free will being fucked over thing or feel that "good" requires overcoming those evil thoughts. Another good cleric might plan to topple the neutral government to establish a more just rule, but the players prefer the stability or something else of the neutral government.

Another case is its the middle of a war with a giant horde of insects or undead or something you cant negotiate with and the good people are trying to destroy the evil fortress of evildom, filled with members of the evil race, but that will sabotage the war effort since the evil people are on your side (for the moment).

I had an arc in a campaign where a figure known as The Saint was going to use the plane of time to 'erase all suffering' he was going to rewrite history, ending that timeline.

Stop making duplicate threads you cunt.

No, it just gives an 'additional' way to deliver sneak damage that isn't even sneaking. If it said something like "equal to your sneak attack dice" or the like it would be fine, but since it's the exact same bonus; "adds your sneak attack damage" you can't double up.
