yeah, a professional historian maybe. But I think you overestimate the quality of general education. most people think Nazi Germany was one giant concentration camp, where the silent nights of Berlin, after all fun had been banned by Hitler's personal decree, were punctuated only by the sound of the Gestapo kicking in people's doors and dragging them off into the night, never to be seen again.

If you were a jew or similar, sure. However most depictions that I ever saw tend toward showing Nazi Germany as a great place to live if you were german and don't mind the authoritarism, rather than the barely functional dictarship ruled by a wacko that it was. Hence why virtually all times alt-history media shows a victorious Third Reich, it is show as a futuristic, technologically advanced society rather than something like North Korea.

>took food out of people's mouths
not true, food shortages were always the result of natural disasters like crop-blight or drought
>hoard to keep the price up
The British didn't do that. However, local merchants in India did (this was reported by both the British and Indians).
>sell it for profit on the global market
The British opened up previously isolated local markets to the global economy. The disadvantages and advantages came hand in hand - when prices were up, the farmers (large- and smallholders) profited from being able to sell their product at a higher price, but the consumers in the cities had to compete with the whole world for food. And the reverse was true when prices were down. This didn't increase the number of famines, it simply made them more visible because they would affect the whole subcontinent rather than just the state that had had a late monsoon. Either way, opening up the markets was essential to modernising India's economy.
>refusing to divert food to starving people when you have more than enough.
In the case of Ireland, they could have done this. But there was logic behind their decision not to, not just callousness: dumping lots of free food on the market, or banning local food from being sold abroad, would have destroyed local producers and crippled the Irish economy which relied on the money from those food exports. In the case of India, there is a persistent myth that in 1942 Churchill refused to divert ships that could have been used to bring food to the starving people in Bengal. What this leaves out is the fact that those ships were taking the food to famine-stricken Greece
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Famine_(Greece)
and also the Japanese navy was operating in the Bay of Bengal, making sending ships in there risky. People who bring this up also never seem to mention that the only reason there was a famine in bengal in the first place was the Japanese invasion of Burma.
