Fun Stars and Planets for Spelljammer

A planet orbiting a Red Dwarf Star.
It is very dimly lit and rotates slowly, making the days and nights take months.

It is littered with the ruins of its ancient civilization, which ended with a necromancy fueled zombie outbreak. Over time, even the Zombies broke down, although crawling hands and chomping skulls still can be found, attacking any who get to close.

The natives made many underground bunkers since society collapsed. Those who still survive in them are changed ...

An interstellar Nebula, containing floating Cloud Giant Cities, and Genie Palaces. Air and Fire elementals fly through it. The gas has supernatural properties, blocking interplanar travel and enhancing spells (Once per day a caster can cast any prepared fire or air spell w/o using a slot). Vast amounts of it can also be siphoned and condensed into powerful destructive artifacts by the native Giants and Genies, which are stocking for a battle to annihilate each other.

A jungle world and a dark distant ice world. The jungle world is comprised of dinosaurs and stone age orcs. These orcs worship tentacled deities that descend from above. Most of the orcs aspire for nothing more than to be taken away by their tentacled masters. In truth these deities are Mind flayers, who bring orcs back to their icy world on their Nuateloid in order to eat their brains.

A Tidally locked planet with no days or nights (same side always face sun).

The sun facing side is populated by lizardfolk, while the night side is populated by snow elves (can use dark elf stats, but these guys are icy white instead).

Multiple surviving human nations, as well some a scattering of mongrelfolk (animal human hybrids) and strange monsters. The sea is filled with alien giant aberrations (perhaps aboleths?), that mind controll the leaders of some of the nations, and speak to inhabitants in their dreams. (+1 internets to anybody who knows where this is from)

There are some truly strange planets in our own universe that serve as inspiration;

Planet and moon have faces, and the moon is always facing the planet. They're usually "asleep" but every couple decades or so one will do usual face things: cough, sneeze, open eyes and look around, burp, etc. causing nightmarish weather events across the surface.
Legend has it they once both awoke at the same time, leading to a conversation that wiped out the previous sapient race. Now it is inhabited by a (mostly) friendly race of mite-like insectoid creatures who not only don't worship the face bodies, but bitch about them all the time.

Based off of the diamond world in that article:


A planet made entirely of Diamond with a bright blue Sun, filled with contemplative crystalline creatures humanoids. A portal has recently opened to the elemental plane of earth. Xorn and Dao have been raiding the planet for the diamonds. Some evil Xorn have also realized that living crystal is the tastiest.

Crystalline Creature Template: A Crystalline creature has +1 AC, Telepathy 100ft, and knows a single Psionic Talent. Possibly OP but this is made for NPCs

A planet with a pitch black atmosphere (everywhere is heavily obscured), inhabited by gnomes, dwarves, goblinoids and other races that can see in the dark. Vampires and Gnoll Packs roam the pitch black surface, raiding the underground tunnels of the humanoids. A group of hobgoblins has started resisting the monsters of the surface, lead by a mysterious radiant hobgoblin whose bright light repels the darkness of the world (A silver dragon in disguise)

The planet has high gravity, so long rests take 10 hours, short rests take 2 hours, and carrying capacity is halved.
