I'll go ahead and admit that sunset isn't horrible. It's mainly a matter of how much focus you want there to be on the setting. Sunsets are made to be looked at, they put on a show of colors and are a marvel to witness, especially when cuddling a loved one as is the idea of the cyoa. However, night rain sets the mood for things going on inside. There's nothing there to focus on even if you tried, so instead it just passively relaxes you and lets you turn your attention to the companions themselves

I actually considered this and rejected it due to most fairytales/storybook type princes/heroes not using ranged weapons. May not make as much sense in a high tech setting though.

Your problem is that you either care too much about other people's preferences, or too little about making the CYOA you want to make. You should make the CYOA because you want to see the end result.

As for why I desire comfy, probably because I'm a failure-averse (if a thing has bad consequences and I'm not reasonably confident that I can succeed, I probably won't do it) self-insertionist (I make my builds based on what I'd prefer to have happen to me).

That aside, unless you do go ahead and make the CYOA, we'll never know if there's something about it that makes it that much better than the other survial-scenario-types, leading me to actually make (and post) a build.

Also, you could make it so that you can either sit tight and wait for rescue for guaranteed survival (potential caveats being that it'd be boring, or you might not get that many chances of keeping you or your waifu properly cleaned or fed, or something else along those lines), or you could take any number of risks for some additional fun/reward.

I'm looking for cyoas with lore? What can /cyoag/ recommend me?

Sure. It's taking a number of steps from the CYOA tradition, though. So you know a lot of CYOAs are just character builders, right? There isn't always much of an "adventure." Just a lot of choice. So naturally, the logical progression for CYOAs is to include instructions on how your choices can be used for prolonged entertainment and adventure. I'm coming up with a set of rules (technically that's the only part I've finished typing up. I'm on to the good stuff: choices and lore). Unfortunately, making use of these new features will require some sort of moderator. Perhaps someone dedicated as the master of a game. Yes, let's call them that, a Master of Games. It should be possible, however, to pair a single Master of Games to several regular players. This should hopefully allow you to roleplay your build as an actual character, rather than merely make-and-forget. Due to the roleplaying aspects of this "game"-type CYOA, I feel it should be called a Game of Roleplaying, or a GRP. It could revolutionize the medium!

But in all seriousness, I plan to just cut out all the rules & hard numbers when I'm done so that I can fashion it into a CYOA proper. Will most likely never leave text PDF form (though I might add drawings of some of the more esoteric concepts & races when I'm done)

Oh, but to expand on this, I was trying to gear it to fix things I personally dislike in RPGs, such as having your choice of a dozen races... all of which are just off-brand humans. Or how speed rarely translates to anything in the action economy. From a CYOA standpoint, expect something akin to Defenders of Humanity (but larger in scale) in that most of a character is race + equipment, but there's also going to be things like more developed lore & factions as well as stat points you can place however you like.

As far as setting (and thus racial / equipment choices) goes... I'd briefly describe it as 1 part GATE, 1 part MonMusu, and 1 part cyberpunk.

Once I get the bare-minimum information written into the google doc, I'll post a link for feedback & decide then if I should continue with the project.

One of the retarded things about how the brain interprets stimuli is that colours are perceived entirely in relation to other colours that the person knows about.

If the brain doesn't recognize the colour it will just default to its closest guess about what the colour is, and anything not within the standard visible light spectrum will just not be seen.

So if you think that you'll be able to terrify someone with the 10^40 mouths you have that they can't see, sure, go right ahead and make yourself a nonexistant colour. The best tradition gaming experience I ever had was probably a one shot in Uni where I played a pre-made who was a short woman that was the village whore and drunk (who had fantastic poison resistance and dexterity), all the PCs were convicts and criminals sold into slavery. She failed every single dodge and throwing roll in that game. Despite that she was the second last remaining survivor in some gladiatorial combat dungeon maze at a major city's colosseum 3-4 hours in. At one point a sphinx ripped out her entire left arm, another PC successfully shanked her with a makeshift knife, a couple of villagers threw rocks at her head suffering hemorrhaging and she even took nasty falling damage when the party attempted to escape the slave air ship they were on but were recaptured.

Like holy fuck this character just kept going until the last surviving PC finally did her in with a sword.

But that PC was horribly killed by a giant fucking crab so it was all good.
