I think it would be a pretty effective shock encounter. A forest where the body of medium or smaller creatures are impaled on giant thorns.

Burn the tree. It's the only way.
Could you imagine the feast after a fight like that though? Sure they're probably gamey as fuck but it's gotta be better than hardtack.

What's the size of a dire shrike though, is it small or medium or what?
Im picturing it standing at about 3 feet at the beak.

Go up to a forest, see a bunch of mangled corpses impaled on the spikes and branches of giant trees. That would be a real sight.

If you run into one of these mega-shrikes near their cache, there's a solid chance he'll just pick you up and drop you on a spike. Leave you there to die in agony, then come back and eat the body whenever it likes. You can tell the cache of a man eating mega-shrike because their pellets contain human bones, and also bits of metal like armor, belt-buckles, and sometimes coins.
