I actually did this for a game.

The player asked for eternal life and got a huge crystal apple that gave eternal life when eaten.

He eventually ground it up and ate it in powder form.

He'd never experience the long-term effects, slowly turning into a mirror-leafed tree brimming with red, crystal apples.
