Personal advice is to join open online ones like /tg/'s IRC and poach a group of friends, get to know them and have them and yourself only play in your smaller circle. Most of the people in the greater roleplaying scene don't actually play just like the idea of playing, or are assblasted idiots drawn in by the popularity of being nerdy.

And then there are the SJWs and more specialized autists worth avoiding unless you really enjoy magical realms and cutting edge social commentaries made by a 400 pound whale.
