Ea is ridiculous as far as raw power goes, since Enuma Elish literally does infinite damage. Anything that can be killed by brute force is killed by Enuma Elish - But that's all it does. There are a lot of swords from other media that have weird conceptual powers that trump it, and Ea can't really do much against something that can't be killed by mundane means.

My vote goes towards Dragnipur, from Malazan Book of the Fallen.

A sword forged as a trap for a world consuming entity of chaos. It's actually a plane forged into a weapon, and within that plane is a wagon, and within that wagon is the bait for Chaos - A bound goddess. Everyone that Dragnipur kills is trapped in the sword and chained to the wagon, forced to drag it and keep Chaos chasing, until they literally dissolve into nothing, unable to ever completely die. This has to happen, because while Chaos is chasing the wagon, it is unable to concentrate on doing anything else and is thus kept away from the real world. There are several gods chained in it, as well as demons, elves, wizards, pretty much every species and archetype imaginable, all lashed to the wagon and forced to drag it.

When it's wielder allows it to fully unveil itself, every magic-sensitive person in a several mile radius gets flattened by the sheer metaphysical weight of Dragnipur. Even that wielder, one of the most powerful characters in the entire series, nearly gets crushed to dust just by carrying it.

Well, its actual name is some elvish word. Widowmaker is just a translation.

And it has other names too. Godslayer, the Sword of Khaine, Ruin, Kingsbane, etc. It's true name isn't known, Widowmaker is just the most common moniker for it.

The Eternal Sword that can manipulate and cut time and space from Tales of Symphonia is high up there. The user gets all sorts of abilities like traveling back and forth through time, penetrating, stopping time, bounding time, teleportation, and spatial control. Its best feat is splitting a world apart into two worlds that's placed into separate dimensions. The upper limits of what the sword can do has never been shown.

Callandor
The sword that cannot be touched, the sword that isn't a sword. Well it is a sword a really nice sword, but that's mainly a side note. This sword lets you use as much magic as you want even the satan magic.

But is Callandor really a sword though? It's basically a big magical battery in the form of a sword.

Is a sword really a sword if it doesn't do sword things?

If your sword's power is to shoot bullets then it's just a fancy or in some cases magical gun.

I can understand a sword being the sharpest sword, or the largest sword, because these are qualities inherent in every sword and therefore a sword that bears these qualities will be the best sword in that category of sword-judging.

A sword that destroys the universe or shoots laser beams can't really be judged against other swords because these qualities are only incidentally related to its swordfulness, and therefore at odds with how truly swordy the sword is.

Basically, what criteria are we using when we say "powerful"? destructiveness?

Daubendiek from Glen Cook's "The Swordbearer." Very wonderful book, and an unbelievably powerful blade, which acts as a semi-conscious extension of the will of the deity who created it.
>>
>>50201102
Well, this is the classic issue with this sort of thread.

Literally the first post was a sword that destroys the universe when you swing it. Where do you go from there? Conceptual manipulation bullshit. Dragnipur, Callandor, Keening, The Transistor, Monado, Shehai.

But none of those are really used as swords in the typical sense. Dragnipur can be, but it's main purpose is to imprison a world-killing god. Callandor is a big-ass magical battery, hitting things with it would dumb. Keening just fucks reality in about six different ways by manipulating the Heart of Lorkhan. The Transistor literally isn't a sword at all, it's just shaped by one, and it's actually the sysadmin key for an artificial reality - One of the characters in the game calls the protagonist a retard because she's been dragging it along the floor and hitting people with it. Monado is futuretech so advanced that it can analyse and rebuild reality, it's sword-like shape is entirely coincidental and it's also not actually a sword. Shehai is just willpower in the shape of a sword, and the Pankratosword technique is just using that willpower to achieve point-blank nuclear fission.

Then you have the swords which are, in fact, swords, are physically less damaging than the aforementioned reality-killing Ea, but have other stuff to make up for them. Tyrfing, Stormbringer, Frostmourne, Soul Edge, Excalibur, Durandal, etc.

There's no real way to define 'power' in an absolute sense when given so many variable factors and conditions.
>>
>>50201367
I think it should be judged in the same way a sword is judged: how good it is at killing people. A weapon that is not purely a killing tool shouldn't be judged for this. Draugnipur and company shound't be included. Ea works, since all it does is destroy things. Pankratosword technique totally qualifies.

>>50201472
Then Ea wins the thread since Enuma Elish automatically kills reality when it is used. An arbitrary amount of damage, effectively infinity. Everything that is vulnerable to damage is immediately destroyed with an arbitrary radius of effect. The only way to counter Ea is to stop it's wielder from using it in the first place. It's not even conceptual bullshit, it's literally 'This sword hits so hard that the Big Bang happens again'

GG no re indeed.
>>
>>50201585
In that case, it doesn't destroy everything. It creates everything (again).
>>
>>50201618
It has to destroy everything first, by definition.

>>50194466
I'm going to say excrucian weapons.
Aside from being able to fuck up the mortal world (prosaic reality), they can destroy pieces of existence.
Remember wumbo?
Of course you don't.
That's because an excrucian stabbed the Power of Wumbo with Monstrous/Colbrand and it obliterated not only the soul of that power, but all existence of Wumbo past, present, and future.

It's a bit edgy for my taste, but they're the enemy, so I'm okay with it.
>>
>>50195539
>>50201585
Enuma Elish is more metaphorical than anything.
Yes, it tears apart reality-fields up to and including ones generated by world-souls (such as the one surrounding planet earth that makes everyone realize that up is upward and white is not black etc.), but as far as magical power goes it's not that ridiculous, just a little stronger than Excalibur.
Now, Excalibur is strong enough to destroy mountains and blow away entire cities so that's still a good attack, but it doesn't LITERALLY blow up the planet or galaxies or shit.
Destroying "worlds" only helps if your enemy relies on the world for basing its existence (such as elementals) or is using the world against you somehow (like a Reality Marble user). It's just a quirk otherwise. Revealing the truth beneath earth's reality-field is nifty, but it doesn't add any extra damage.
>>
How weeb are we willing to go?

My vote goes to the og Yoshitsuna the Baal Sword can lick mah balls
>>
>>50201827
Nah, I mean, Enuma Elish in Fate/Extra does 99999 damage. The only things that can survive being hit by it are things that can't be killed by damage alone, which are actually pretty frequent in Nasuverse.

Lore wise im pretty sure it unmakes creation/simulates genesis or something like that, I wouldn't use the videogame-translated version to judge it.

Not sure how it would effect things that operate under different laws of physics, like Type Mercury.
>>
>>50202019
Dude, that's just game mechanics. Gilgamesh can also only use Enuma Elish if the enemy is at 1/3rd health or less in that game, are you going to say he's so restricted anywhere else? That's dumb.

Anything that could survive Excalibur could probably survive Enuma Elish. Remember that in Fate/Extra CCC as well, Archer using a degraded imitation of Excalibur is the second strongest attack in the game (after Enuma Elish itself), dealing huge tons of damage.
>>
>>50202064
The Types are very explicitly not able to be killed by damage alone, so Ea is worthless against them. It's the fatal flaw of the weapon.

>>50202073
It's also stated to be the pinnacle of all Noble Phantasms somewhere, though I don't recall where.
>>
>>50202064
Not him, or even particularly informed in regards to Nasuverse lore, but from my understanding it does indeed revert things to state they were in before creation. Supposedly the sword was used to separate the godly realm and the physical, and can just as easily mix them together again.

Also, I believe Type-Mercury is the single most powerful thing in existence, and that the Types operate on personal rules of existence. Each has their own fundamental laws governing their existence.
>>
>>50194567

Nobody mentioned Eternity Swords yet, huh? The Eternity Sword Series setting is so underrated and unused around here. It is the closest equivalent to Japan's version of Magic the Gathering. How? Well, let's see:
>5 color mana: red, blue, green, black, white
>Colorless mana exists
>Eternals are essentially old school Planeswalkers: ageless, immortal in that getting killed means getting removed from the world instead of death, can travel between one world to the next for various ambitions and goals via Gate (instead of Wake), can manipulate mana (fabric of reality and what life is composed of) draws power from the world (plane) and their strength is determined how much mana there is in the world that could range from nigh-omnipotent-like to barely above human level of magic and power
>Eternals and Planeswalkers even suffered from similar nerf from their respective writers, that is more recent stories bring Eternals down to neo Planeswalkers to make stories easier to relate/RP

Anyways, obtaining an Eternity Sword of rank 1 to 3 will transcend any being into a higher existence and give them gamebreaking on a universal and beyond level. Existing outside of time and can traverse through space and dimensions makes them virtually unrestricted.

Reminds me of my favourite blades in Anima. One of them is this overdesigned sword that makes every weapon nut sperg out when they see it.

In-universe it's a -5 sword because it was designed by a fantastically powerful enchanter mage with zero understanding of what makes a sword actually good. It's great for it's non-sword qualities though.

The other is a simple, plain silver sword made by the elves. It ignores every single defence in the game and provokes an auto-crit on each hit because unlike the other one it was made by a guy who knew swords and wanted the best sword.

That's never said in any story. It's just fanon. It's not "noted" anywhere.

Type entities are perfect beings equivalent to planets. To begin with, they cannot truly die as they don't have death within them. At least two of them passively terraform the reality around them (three if you count Arc), probably all of them do, but that doesn't mean they are the reality.

>The most powerful sword ever

I hate these "most powerful [x]" discussions. Let's talk about the most interesting swords instead.

I always thought The Sword of Hisou from Touhou was actually really fucking cool. Though as described via official text it's kind of confusing, it's basically a celestial tool that lets the user alter the weather. Forming droughts, causing torrential rain, scattering away storms, all kinds of fun stuff.

Other minor properties of the sword is that it is capable of shapeshifting, which lets it basically be stored in hammerspace until the wielder wants to whip it out, and it is basically indestructible, which lets the user channel the full extent of their physical might through the sword without having to worry about breaking it.

It always struck me as a neat weapon for a wuxia game's plot to revolve around.

>>50194507
As great as Stormbringer is it has it's limitations. Beings from realities too far away from those governed by the rules of Law and Chaos are immune to its effects and if the wielder is that far out they lose any power they gain from the sword.

That may not seem like much of a downside but with how much the sword and its bearer gets around Elric runs into quite a few beings who are immune to it.

Nightblood is a much more powerful weapon that makes a cameo in that series. It's a sentient sword tasked with destroying evil that makes anything the blade touches cease to exist. Drakvanr

It's the First Sword, a physical representation of the concept of one person murdering another. If you can conceptualise it as a living and sapient creature, Drakvanr can (and will) kill it. Against anything that doesn't fit that category, it's just a poor quality bronze longsword.

Currently held by Death's Herald, since she's the only one he trusts to carry it and not wreck his efforts at keeping the world cycle going.
>>
>>50204001
Althiel, the concept of purification given the form of a sword. Also known as the blade that forges heaven.

It has never been used or wielded. If it is ever swung the blade will manifest itself in front of every creature capable of consciously doing good or evil at the moment of that creature's conception and cleave it into two, separating everyone from the sins they'll accrue throughout their lifetime before they ever have the chance to commit them. The blade then cuts the very fabric of reality and separates all of existence into "good" and "evil" by a series of vaguely defined abstract conditions. This mass of sin and the concept of evil is then destroyed and althiel ceases to exist since the concept of purification is meaningless in a world where all evil and sin has been purified. The universe left behind is too alien to conceptualize so nobody is sure what it would look like.

The sword was forged as a prank by a god of chaos in order to prove the hypocrisy of the god of all good who refuses to swing it and keeps it locked away.

the vorpal sword from fables can kill anything, regardless of where it hits the thing you're trying to kill, in one hit

it's heavily suggested that it swings itself, needing only the will of the wielder to enable this trait.

Nephillim. It's a sword forged from solidified shadow. It sounds a lot more edgy than it really is, I swear. It was actually forged as a weapon of mercy.

The sword is a shapeshifting weapon that actually has a lot of limitations; IE it can never exceed its own mass, and it can only cause mental stress and the sensation of pain instead of physical damage to an actual living being, hence the mercy part. One can't use it to torture someone because the pain is numbed entirely after a certain amount of damage, and just makes the victim too exhausted to stay conscious. However, the fact that it's a shape-shifting weapon makes it utterly bullshit in the hands of someone really imaginative, especially when they realize that 'shape-shifting weapon' does not preclude shapes that are not recognizable weapons. It's entirely possible for a wielder to walk into a barracks and KO everyone in it in a single attack, if a wielder figures out how.

The idea behind the name is because a celestial made it out of shadows and thus pointless religious reference in a setting that doesn't even have the titular creatures. I'm planning on cursing the party's murderhobo so he can only use this weapon, since he has no imagination and the PC would learn a valuable lesson from not trying to kill everything and everyone that remotely annoys her.
>>
>>50210927
Doesn't count. The knife isn't what does the damage in this case, it's the sheer Determination Chara had that made their attacks literally reality destroying.

It can wound anything, devour souls thus inflicting 'true death' on anything it kills. Has its own sentience that allows it to aid its wielder in battle, increasing their skill with it greatly. It can increase its wielders physical, mental and magical ability immensely by feeding them power from the souls it devours. It provide great defense to magic.

It can and does kill monsters, demons, angels, gods, dimensions, and all of existence.

Engraved on the blade is the fate to end all that is, was, or ever will be.

>Sword that Smites Evil
WAGA ZANKANTOU NI... TATENU MONO NASHI.
>>
The most powerful sword ever is an overdesigned 2 meter long katana that no one has ever used because they don't want to be called weebs by the other fighters.

His was probably my favorite Zanpakuto.
He was also my favorite shinigami.
And my favorite character.
And had the best subplot.
And should have been where the series ended.

wait, you mean just end it with Butteflyzen? Or do you mean Gin should have succeeded in killing him?

TC 87 though, so it is technically the best, the best kind of best

There's got to be a sword with the property of winning any battle where it's drawn out there somewhere. I want to place my bets on that one.

>I remember that shitty film adaptation
>Shitty
>Universally praised as a tool to get people to read and interpret Shakespeare.
>Contains everything from Guns, Drugs, Sex and iconic snapshot of rose-tinted 90's life.

I disagree with you.

The Sword of I Win and Fuck You Kevin
>>
Im partial to a sword that was in an old slasher rpg game called Revenant.

I don't recall the background exactly, but it was crafted by some evil, or it killed some god and became tainted.

But in essence the sword would never touch anything, reality itself would split and bend to allow its passage, it could cut through anything, anywhere. Utterly unstoppable and able to kill divinities.

It's actually killing intent that determines damage.

Shakespeare is shit though. The only reason he hasn't been forgotten is because teachers keep shoving him in people's faces.

This. His works are not that interesting.

Someone agree's with an opposing view of yours, must be the same person. Hurr. How is your echo chamber going?

Shit is too harsh. He's anachronistic entertainment literature with some nice dirty puns if you know ye olde English.

He is not the crown jewel of literature, but he's not Twilight tier either.
>>
>>50218528
Well if you wanna go Indian there's a bow that does that.
>>
>>50219178
Shakespeare is great. The issue is that he wrote stage plays, not books and anyone who tries too look at his stuff through the lenses of literature is a freaking moron.
