First for CSM.
>>
In your opinion, which army has the most interesting lore?
>>
How common is it just to collect an army as decoration and just make them really good looking, not to primarily play with them, even if it comes up once in a while?

Dark Angels. They're a bunch of tree hating robe wearing space knights who want to atone for their brothers' betrayal and escape their cycle of guilt. Take this creepy Craglist's add.
>>
>>50193579
Chaos Space Marines. There's so many different things you can do with them fluff-wise and almost none of them have rules support.

Eldar are let down by poor writers consistently making them look like blind morons. Orks are let down by a lack of good writing from their perspective. Tyranids were ruined by Swarmlord shit. Necrons still don't have much flavor, and what little they have is concentrated almost entirely on a couple characters. Space Marine fluff too often devolves into stale accounts of marines shooting bolters are bad guys.

Chaos Daemons, their stories are ridiculous.
Tzeentch drop his Lord of Changes to the well.
Chaos gods drop Tzeentcht from the mountain(are there any in the warp?) and he broke in to pieces, so he made 2 horrors to find those pieces.
Nurgling drink Nurgle's shit and become sad Great Unclean One.
Daemonette dance to please Slaanesh, and he says GTFO!
Bloodthirster atack Khorne, so blood god drop him from his citadel, after that this bloodthirster become most devoted of Khorne daemons and still lazy bitch on skull throne says FUCK YOU!
>>
>>50193560
>First for CSM.
How would you do an army composed of corrupted Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks?

Video related, assume that they're stuck on a Khornate Daemon World until they all get corrupted:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ZgyNoHtjw

What I'm thinking:
Space Marine Captain: Chaos Lord (HQ)
Tactical Marines: Chaos Space Marines (Troops)
Imperial Knight-Paladin: Chaos Knight-Paladin (Lord of War)
Deff Dread: Hellbrute w/ 2 Power Fists, 1 Heavy Flamer, 1 Combi-Bolter (Elite)
Orks Boyz: ??? (Cultists w/ Mark of Nurgle, maybe?)
Eldar Wraithknight: Chaos Decimator Daemon Engine? Chaos Contemptor Dreadnought? Daemon Prince?
Howling Banshees: Chosen with Power Swords and Bolt Pistols?

I know that CSM are terrible to the point where it becomes a meme, but would a Walker-heavy list be decent for them?

Most factions have something about them I really like.

My first army were Dark Angels though.
First off what I like about Space Marines is, that in order to protect humanity they have to become something inhuman.

And the psychology of the Dark Angels is pretty interesting too. Half the Chapter turns traiter the other does not. Out of shame the loyalist half tries to keep the traitor half a secret and 'correct' the mistake themselves. But in order to do so they end up killing witnesses to their purge. So what started up as the wish for redemption is now a self righteous crusade that is turning out to be just as corrupting as the original betrayal.
They are caught up to deep in a web of lies to escape from and their struggle only makes it worse for everybody.

It's a pretty clever piece of writing really. Cause now you have to ask if a Chapter who places their own interests above that of the Imperium at large can truly be considered loyal.

And then you have the Deathwing. White Termie armor just looks awesome. Not a fan of the newest models though.

My second favorite would probably be Chem-Dogs of Savlar. Mix of nostalgia for Armageddon and enjoying the idea a bunch of backstabbing psychos being unleashed on the galaxy.

Rules are here >>50193817 but I'm going to tell you something else: Apo Barrages are all horribly bad weapons. They are so massively inaccurate that its not even funny. Even with stats like s9-10, good AP and loads of shots, they achieve usually worse results then same weapon without ApoBarrage rule.
>>
>>50193901
>>50193817

Thanks guys, didn't realize it was in the main book.
>Apo Barrages are all horribly bad weapons
That's a shame if true, I haven't had a chance to use it yet (I buying a warlord and I've chosen the sunfury plasma annihilator, belicosa volcano cannon and 2x the triple laser blasters) and the current alternatives to the plasma don't seem that enticing, either the power claw with twin linked vulcan blaster which admittedly looks cool as fuck, but the sunfury seems so much nicer both in looks and stats

>Buying a Warlord.

>>
>>50193921
Did you bet your paycheck on Trump or something. I wish I had, them 150-1 odds.
>>
>>50193921
The volcano cannons are boring but they're effective. I'm still waiting for the quake cannon or the macro blaster. That six barreled fuck you cannon on one end and a stupid huge bore barrel on the other is very iconic to me.

I actually got the missile racks. They're not nearly as effective but I read the fluff about Legio Metallica using long ranged weapons to flatten the earth denying the orks cover and to soften all the titan class threats before they had to knife fight with gargants at Armageddon. That and I was never a fan of the baby kicking load outs on super heavies. You're already shitting all over your opponent. Every time I see the 8 D turbo laser Reaver it's kind of eye roll worthy for me. You don't really need to be a power gamer when you already have firepower of that scale lol

Could any SM Players tell me if a Jump Pack can be fitted onto a Normal Tactical Marine model?
>>
Say, what do you guys think of Biblical influence used in 40k? I don't mean whether you believe in it or not, but for making fluff is it cool or Clichè?

My idea that prompted this is some Daemons/CSM of Nurgle themed around 'Abaddon's Locusts'. It seems like a neat way to build up lore and get a neat theme going. Anyone else use the Bible, or any literature, to build their army?
>>
>>50194397
Uh, anon, I don't think assault marine models are that much different from regular ones. Not like they have wildly different molds.
>>
>>50194397
they can, GW even sold the jump pack separatedly. Tho tactical marine lack the "ready to take-off" legs of normal assault marine.
>>
>>50194417
Sorry my first and only model so far is a fine cast jump chaplain and his back was specifically molded for a Jump Pack

>>50194420
Alright great thanks.
>>
>>50194431
Sorry I just assumed you've been into 40K for years or something. You can use the jump packs on regular tacticals but their comparatively static leg positions might make them look strange unless you pose them well.
>>
>>50194431
And Assautl marine torsos have straps and buckles on the front to make the pack look detachable.
>>
>>50194467
>straps and buckles
But the jump pack is where the power pack is, so I assume it incorporates a power pack as well.
If they removed the jump pack it would lead to the armour losing power?

>>
>>50194402
Dude. Literally everything in 40k comes from somewhere.
The whole HH is Dante's Inferno and the War in heaven. Ahriman was a babylonian demon I think. Lionel Johnson was a poet. Raven Guard are a not to Edgar Allen Poe. Lysander was a greek general.

I mean you can trace literally everything back to something else.
Rogue Trader started out as sci-fi rule set for GWs existing D&D miniature range, which is why a lot of the critters in 40k should seem familiar too.

So yeah it's totally in the spirit of 40k to fluff something after your favorite other thing and transplant that into 40k.

Has anyone figured out a fix for Battlescribe on Android not allowing you to select force type? App doesn't work while it's broken. Kind of hard to let the new guy write up a list when the program doesn't work and the shop doesn't let him borrow the codex of choice. (I wrote up my own lists, so I'm not super concerned, but it's not as easy for people who hate pirating.)
>>
>>50194812
Eldar are the elves in Lord of the Rings too
>>
>>50194864
>people who hate pirating
Battlescribe is more or less the same thing, they don't provide the codex files so they aren't liable for the stealing of the entries. So either he gets over his dislike of piracy or he forks out money for the codex.
>>
>>50194598
Power armour has a reserve power supply, good enough to last until you get picked up by a rhino or something.
>>
>>50193642
Chaos Space Marines and Orks "are" allies of convenience. I'm not as sure how to fit Eldar in but there are some options.

Since you mentioned the Daemon Engine, it sounds like you would be cool using Forgeworld in general. One thing I think you could do that would be reasonably scary would be:

-Run an Ork CAD as your primary, and use Zhadsnark as your Warlord. Take a bunch of Warbiker Troops, and sprinkle in Tankbusta support. Maybe some Looted Wagons.

-Add a Gorepack from Khorne Daemonkin. Give all the Bike units Meltas/Combi-Meltas, run as many Flesh Hounds as you can to support your Ork/Chaos Bikers.

-Optionally if your group is using DFTS rules, a Flyerwing of two Daemonkin Heldrakes with Hades Autocannons (NOT Baleflamers). You get Strafing Run and can still vector-strike flyers, and the lead flyer gets another +1 BS so you're hitting one ground target on 2+, another on 3+. Each Battle Company Rhino you pop is another Blood Tithe point.

You can summon troops with psudo-lascannons right behind vehicles.

Sure you need to roll for the Telepathic Summons power, but if you do get it, it's REALLY OP.

I mean, I wouldnt allow it to anyone. The FAQ is bad example to use here since rules there talk about plasma weapons and FAQ states what those are.

Haemathrope instead talks about Plasma Weapon in the rulebook which is very spesific list of weapons. The FAQ could have gone with that route too but instead chose the more inclusive interpretation.

So no. No Haemo-bonuses for anything other than those 3 weapons in the rulebook. And like I said, thats sad.

Also no Cerastus/Mechanicum Knights for Warconvo. Thats very sad, too.

If Tyranids attack a planet that has been fully engulfed by WAAAGHing Orks and their Warboss, which side wins?

I guess Orks just find the whole thing heaven
>>

Could go either way, frankly. Tyranids have the advantage because they can eat the spores and orks are plentiful, cheap biomass though.

Orks would be fucking overjoyed out of the green asses. No idea who would win but giantic skrap would ensue. And if the fight is big enough then it would pull even more orks into the fight, just like what happened at Armageddon.

The rules are really not that confusing if you use common sense. It's people like you that cause the issues by refusing to accept when it's very clear how something was intended to work even if the wording was sloppy. Instead of being an asshole, consider: you could just stop abusing the nuances of the english language and play the game the way it's intended.

Eating the spores. Didnt even think of that.

Yeah Tyrannoformation basically BTFOs Orks at the microscopic level, they don't stand a chance in a long-term war unless more Orks from outside the biosphere are pouring in to assist (and the Shadow in the Warp will also make it difficult for them to contact those reinforcements in a timely manner).

>>

They can't consume it directly but they can just break it down into base elements like anything else after the fact, given enough time.

Necrons are probably the one race that really has all the advantages over nids though and stands the best chance of kicking their asses.
>>
>>50196066
>I'm autistic because I am literally autistic, I have asperger. So is that good enough for me to play by the rules and not bend them to my own ends?
No that basically means you should shut the fuck up in any rules arguments and consent to being wrong by default because you won't be reasonable.
>>
>>50196060
Necrons usually teleport out when dying.
And Nids avoid Necron infested worlds for that reason
They are the only army that can win a war of attrition with Tyranids
>>
>>50196062
I dont think that the Shadow would be that effective though. WAAAGH bends the reality itself, and I guess at least some of the Orks in the system would get their green mugs in a grin as they sense a gigantic scrap.
And as they do, dont they just "spread the signal"?

But I guess in the end, the endless tide of nids would most likely win

Cult Mech codex has example where mechanicus won war of attrition against nids. When nids had nommed the servitors, they sent out swarms to servo skulls to pick up the non-eaten mechanical parts, installed them to new biological speciments and then sent out the next wave.

I guess it depends on the codex, but I don't usually have an issue

then again, my codex doesn't have many options or units worth using, few formations or detachments (none in the main book), and having everything in front of you can really help to plan your list.

Another technique I've been told is to put all your models on a table in front of you while you are list building so you can visualize your list and see your constraints more clearly.

Speeders are a bit bad. Flamer and H.bolter are total no-no. MM is good for tank hunting but being within 12" is deadly for speeders. With Typhoon you can hang back and snipe a bit.

That said only speeders that are good are Storms and ones in Ravenwing Support Squadron. In RW-SS you should give everyone assault cannon and heavybolter to complement it. And use Darkshroud.
>>
>>50196659
Primarchs, obviously. They replace the High Lords as highest living authority.
>>
>>50196659
Guilliman is the only one without some sort of baggage that he left in his legion that could see them collapse or turn. I'm not too up to date in what happened regarding Imperium Secondus though so maybe he wouldn't want to lead after that, and perhaps seeing what the administratum has become. Khan seems to be the next most stable Primarch, but most of the surviving loyalists didn't really seem to trust him that much.
>>
>>50196598
Twin-HBs is cheap, but that's about it. 1-2 multi-meltas is good for hunting. MM and heavy flamer an all-arounder anti-tank/anti-horde thing. Typhoon for survivability, since it lets you keep your distance.
>>
>>50196691
There is a chance, altough really small one, that Rogal Dorne lives with one hand, playing overly honest grandfather to a bunch of Orphans on some planet somewhere.

Lasgun option for Sergeants.
Mortars, heavy bolters and rockets that aren't objectively inferior to lascannons and autoguns.
Heavy stubber and multilaser teams.
Ability to split up squads into fireteams with ~10 inch unit coherency between fireteams while still functioning as a single unit in terms of morale checks and leadership tests.
Earhshaker guns that work as basilisks but cheaper, can't move and are always open topped.
A poorly armored, unarmed but super fast transport vehicle to give infantry mobility. Think taurox with no weapons and even faster. Perhaps an Arvus lighter (I know about FW).
Make grenade launchers worthwhile.
Allow demo vets to use more than one meltabomb per turn. Make rough riders worthwhile.
Let special weapon squads take hunting lances (WITNESS ME).

So, just had a man to man game, painting and introduction to game session with a new guy.

I played my 'Nids against his IG.
And he has a well thought out army, when it comes to land battles. revolving around artillery and vet squads in chimeras.
Surprisingly, new guy has a good grasp for his army as far as beginners go. It was surprising to see so many of my nids blow up at the first few turns.
But I couldnt stress "Remember the orders phase" more.

He ended up winning two games out of three, in one I brought in some flynids that fucked him over, reminding him that there is air battling to the game as well.

I think he is going to have little (if any) troubles with our resident Ork players, he is exactly the kind of guy they like to play against.
But for our SM guy who hates seeing any of his units die, and will check rulebooks feverishly for any slight chance to bring any of his units back... Well, its going to be interesting.

Otherwise, this was the first time we properly met, seems like a chill guy, who is willing to be very flexible, and plays for fun instead of WAAC.
I like him.

>Terminator Squad (Halberds, Melta Bombs)
>Interceptor Squad (Halberds, Melta Bombs)
>Interceptor Squad (Halberds, Melta Bombs)
>Nemesis Dreadknight (Personal Teleporter, Gatling Psilencer, Greatsword)

The Melta Bombs can be switched for Flamers at will, I only play Knights at smaller games and some asshole always spams high AV. But if you aren't expecting lots of armor, then go all out with it. Or grab a hammer, but no one does TEQs where I'm at, so I don't really know if they're worth it.

I was originally thinking of going with 2 squads of Termies but I was worried about getting them into position effectively, especially if the other guy goes first and manages to blow the Interceptors off the field. I guess they can always just DS normally though. Has that been a problem for you?

I am used to Dark Eldar where you can pretty much count on half of your shit dying if the opponent actually manages to shoot it so I usually run redundant stuff that's not strictly necessary. But I guess target saturation doesn't work so well when you only have a few squads lel

Well yesterday was actually our planned meetup, and it ended up in a disaster. It became an argument between ork players and SM guy.

They didnt even though they didnt even bring their armies with them, and I was supposed to play with the new guy. Ork guys blamed SM guy for making an "overpowered" lineup for a new guy, and SM guy had a spergout about how formations are only way to play.
>we've been quite much looks over function so far

So we decided to meet today together, just the two of us.
He still knows about formations, but doesnt really understand, so we went over that for a while.
He kinda got dragged into infighting in our group I thought was mostly over, but his army sparked it again.
>>
>>50198058
Yeah, that was me. I hope everything blows over quickly with you guys, always great to hear a new player getting into things. I sympathise, our LGS resident smurfs player acts the same a lot of the time, except he is just a dick period, so I brought in the WarConvo and blew him and his skyhammer/gladius up today. Feels good.

I look forward to more tales from NewGuardGuy and his group, been a nice story so far. Enjoy yourselves and the many explosions he will probably bring you.

Our SM guy is an absolute ass when it comes to the game, he has absolutely no mercy. I think when it comes to it, I'll stand by the new guy as an assistant, and help with rules, and make goddamn sure SM guy doesnt try to pull some bullshit to win.

What happens when a Chapter is reduced to one or very few space marines for whatever reason, so it can no longer sustain itself?

Are they supposed to go out and die in battle?
>>
>>50199830
>What happens when a Chapter is reduced to one or very few space marines

Several different possibilities:

The Chapter is disbanded and the survivors are folded into a different under-strength Chapter.

The Chapter is put on hold to be re-grown. It effectively goes through a re-founding, with the Chapter's tithed gene-seed being used to grow new sets of complete gene-seed to be implanted in new recruits.

The parent chapter absorbs the remnants of the successor chapter. This would probably be very common among Ultramarine, Dark Angels, and Blood Angels chapters.
>>
>>50199830
Well, it happened to (Beast Arises spoiler) The Imperial Fists, and the Fists Exemplar were used to re-found them. So that's one canon example. Otherwise, >>50199870 hit it on the head.

What happens to Dreadnoughts who find themselves suddenly dispossessed of a Chapter?

I recall there being a Death Watch Dreadnought that was part of the Mantis Warriors at the time they went missing.

The Inquisitor at the time threatened said Dreadnought (who was disobedient regarding his orders to capture a Trygon alive rather than putting an end to the miniature Bio-Titan) with ejection from the Watch, meaning he'd have nothing.

>Maximus Thane led the heroes of the Imperium, standing tall in the cupola of the Land Raider Dorn’s Fist. The Imperial Fists marched in tight lockstep, their yellow armour gleaming in the smog-choked morning of Terra. The Imperial Fists were newly gathered as brothers still, and nearly half of those who had taken up the yellow and black to fight on Ullanor had fallen, but they marched as one: Excoriator, Executioner, Iron Knight, Soul Drinker, Black Templar, Crimson Fist and Fist Exemplar had cast off their prior identities and subsumed them into the deeper brotherhood of Dorn. Old ties dissolved into the rebirth of a greater past. Continuation would be their legacy, though none outside the ranks of the Adeptus Astartes would ever know the Imperial Fists had fallen.

Most of them and their chapter master are from the First Exemplar. However, a lot of them are from other Fist successor chapters and this includes the Soul Drinkers.

And this is funny to me. The Soul Drinkers were confirmed in their series to not be from the geneseed of Dorn. So non-Doen geneseed was used to revive the Imperial Fists. Does that confirm that the Imperial Fists got cucked?
