Hey there /tg/
I want to try out some car combat. Which system do you guys like? Axles and Alloys seems good for being free and simple. Is there anything else I should check out? Links to rules?
Also, any good tips for making weapons that don't look like they're just leftovers from 40k?

I don't know if it has miniatures rules, though.
A simpler game, but more related to the art style OP seems to be going for...
Car wars compendium 2.5E
There are links in the PDF thread so I won't bother posting them here, but this is what you want.
It's got very detailed car design and game mechanics, and you can use it to build pretty much anything you imagine. Downside is it takes a while to learn, but it's more rewarding once you get there.

CW can be played at any scale you want, just double the distances for H0 and triple them for Matchbox cars. Designing and converting your own models is part of the fun.
