This is kind of what I was hoping that expiditions: conquistador game a few years back was going to be like
I still think it's a fun idea. lots of weird monsters and hostile terrain, disease and natural toxins, sparse villages that may or may not be hostile that you might have trouble communicating with, mysterious old shit overgrown with vines, etc.
