Its the only thing that makes 30k IMO.

Everybody is playing deep-meta power armor, then you bust down to door and go "YEEEEEEAH, RAT MEN OF THE COMPUTER PLANET!" and they have to fight a pitched battle against ~200 models at 1000pts running interference for a massive powerbase with 3 wound T5 models with heavy bolters of DOOM and shields for a 4++. Its a hoot. It actually feels like fun, rather than doing the bullshit dance of deathstars, powerunits, and formations. Its literally the only way I can play anything GW related.
>>
>>50112980
>tfw you will never play a game of 100 bolter marines behind a wall desperately trying to hold off 500 rat dudes.
>>
>>50113008
Well, if you live in NC, we can set it up. Whats really fun about it is that I win about as often as I lose, but since my army has +6 armor and rending, we both just keep fighting right up until the end. The bitter fucking end.

Mixing Skaven and DE parts actually makes some fairly quick space skaven as long as you dont go overboard.

How good are Vorax at killing off terminator deathstars? I'm considering getting a praevian+6 Vorax for the jump from 2k to 2.5k. Most people are beginning to get primarchs and putting them with their termies in their preferred delivery method, which is generally bad news for my cover-hugging IH gunline. When looking through counter-assault units, i read about the vorax and loved the idea of bigass freaky predator bug-bots coming to fuck you up. I would prefer not to buy my own primarch, as Ferrus's death is kind of a downer on my desire to use him, and i really, really want to get one of the Legion superheavies eventually instead.
>>
>>50113511
Just paint Ferrus as all ethereally like and say all of the head jokes and the Emperor's love allowed Ferrus's spirit to come back to get vengance.
>>
>>50113573
Well, i could have ferrus and get into primarch deathmatches all i want, or i could take vorax/castellax/whatever and also take a goddamn glaive, which is way cooler than that headless failure of a primarch anyway
>>
>>50113592
Consider the following: a ghost Primarch beating things to death with his own ghost head or robots. The glaive is nice though.
>>
>>50113615
okay, the though of Ferrus haunting his brothers while ineptly trying to hide his identity by wearing ghostly plate armour is hilarious, especailly if he fucks it up by losing his temper and beating things to death with his helmet-equipped head
Still not as cool as the Glaive
>>
>>50113651
>okay, the though of Ferrus haunting his brothers while ineptly trying to hide his identity by wearing ghostly plate armour is hilarious, especailly if he fucks it up by losing his temper and beating things to death with his helmet-equipped head

>Glaive
You might just want to get the glaive at this point. I can't convince you not to get it.

I want to convert the Chaplain from BaC into a librarian for my 1ksons...
On a scale from zero to heresy how bad would it be if I give him the head of a 40k rubric marine?

Also, force sword, axe or staff? I was thinking about a persian style sword, like the wfb tomb kings had.
>>

>How good are Vorax at killing off terminator deathstars?
Darn fucking good. Do the math as any good cogboi should.
For 390pts, aka a bit more than the Spartan, you get Eighteen Fearless T6 wounds with 24 attacks that wound marines on a 2+ and ignore armour at I4 (I5 for Cybernetica), aka 5 dead Cataphractii before any power fist swings. That's not taking the opening salvo previous to the charge. And they have Scout and Fleet to reduce their need for transportation.
Now take the costs into account:
10 PFist termies (400pts) + Flare-Shielded Armoured-Ceramite Dozer bladed Spartan (375pts) = 755pts
You can bring about 12 Vorax for that price, which would both kill a Primarch's terminator retinue (1W) and tarpit him with Fearless wounds. Idk you tell me.

Thats what i was thinking, i was going to put a cheap Praevian in with them and let them deal with nasty, nasty things coming at me. I'm kinda wary of their 4+, which gives every heavy bolter, autocannon and heavy flamer a reason to exist.

Is it worth it to give the Vorax poisoned ammo for the chance to chip off wounds from solo primarchs theres one guy who runs corvus fucking corax solo, if i can manage to kill him with rotor cannons i'd die of laughter
>>
>>50114171
Combined with the Praevian's PE, I guess. Their rotor guns pretty much are non-existent until poison rounds are bought. And a single model with the Scout rule lets the entire unit outflank, reducing the time of exposure to enemy dakka.
>>
>>50114286
I'm planning on using it as a counter-assault unit for when people drop a Kharybdis full of termies/spartans full of Perturabo in my lines and such, so scouting/outflanking isnt a major dealio for me.
>>
>>50114329
Aaa. You said you're IH, right? Legion inductees wil increase your niggas' T by one. Castellax will be T8 W4 3+/5++.
And they can let loose up to 5 S6 AP2 attacks on the charge too (more than Vorax actually) without giving up their shooting (Mauler cannon included, can be swapped for a Multimelta for free).
They cost more, but they'd be able to tank missile launchers using sheer toughness alone, meaning an enemy marine with a MLauncher averages to 0.22 wounds to them. I mean you seemed concerned about endurance and stuff.
>>
>>50114463
True, i just love the whole bug-predator thing the Vorax have going, but the Castellax are probably better. The frag nades and poison rotor cannons make them 80 PPM, while being much more fragile simply due to worse armour and no invuln. I'll think on it for a while before making purchases, both models are great which makes it hard.
>>
>>50114554
If youre using the with a Praevian, you could use his frag grenades instead. Just refuse challenges, that's what the Fearless PE Vorax monsters are there for.

How is the rust effect attempted on the base metal? I feel like the typhus Corrosion wasn't thick enough.

He was meant to be facing the other way, but the only way he could do so and not be off center was tp make him hide his kneed pad behind the wall, and I'm too proud of the stripes to hide them behind a wall!

I'm finally settled on a legion.
However, regarding the paint scheme; I'm not fond of any schemes done with paintbrush I've seen so far, nor do I enjoy spending hours on single models. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy painting by itself.
So, should I invest in an airbrush? It seems it speeds up the painting process significantly and it allows to get the exact shades without too much trouble or time spent.

What does "scalable" psychic powers mean? Is that where you can pick how many warp charges to use before casting?
>>
>>50116341
That, or the power depends on the mastery level of the caster or something ?
>>
>>50116341
It probably means that Ahriman and other big guys will cast the same powers as random mook squads, but stronger. Like, a full 20 man tactical squad can bend a spoon but a Praetor will bend it into another dimension filled with pain.

>>
>Just a bit of info I got talking to sir alan...

There's been a lot of discussion about angron needing a better save/extra wound etc..

It was deliberate to make him less resilient in book 1, as by the end of the crusade he was essentially dying cos of the butchers nails, and was not as powerful as he was earlier in the crusade.

They do intend to make at least one more version of him before he becomes a daemon prince. This version will probably be more powerful as he is nearing his ascent to daemonhood and gaining power again.

He'll also have different weapons of course.

Cheers.

Glad I painted his eyes Blue and what trim there is as silver/metal, then. You'd have to be blind when I actually start my project, conversion, decals, freehanding, to mistake Word Bearers with red shoulders as Blood Angels (which have a bright, fiery red scheme) vs fully decked out Word Bearers.

You know that all WB had black shoulders right? I like that you painted the eyes blue though. I don't have my copy of Book 6 on me, but there's a thing there that explained it.

Before they had the Red/Black colors, they still had the colors of the Imperial Heralds, Grey with Blue eyes.

The chapters that were sent to Calth were simply the ones that were meant to die out, as Lorgar believed them too winded up on wanting vengeance on the UM and not worshipping Chaos enough.

I really can't tell if your're baiting or not.

If that's the case, then your store is full of retards. MkIV armor was issued to everyone in varied amounts, as well as Cataphractii being the oldest mark of Termi armor, ensuring that all legions had it.

IIRC the ADB Black Library novels describe the Gal Vorbak, Serrated Sun then his Chapter of Consecrated Iron all donning black, and some other chapters replicating this. This isn't a blanket statement for all Word Bearers. Variation is what Forgeworld actually encourages, and in much artwork, Forgeworld gamebooks, you see a lot of different minor changes to different bits of armour with different colours to signify different things - whether they be organizational, esoteric, whatever.

All the word bearer artwork shows them either in crimson with black shoulders, or the grey. Got a pic of a 30k word bearer in red with red shoulders? Because as far as I know, every art of a WB marine in crimson has the black pauldrons.

It's not like word bearers are alone in changing scheme slightly going into 40k, other traitor legions did too without reasons being given. Look at the night lords for example.
>>
>>50116894
We don't talk about them anymore.

Not after what GW did to the survivors.
>>
>>50118313

And what exactly is stopping someone from using red shoulderpads on their WBs? Considering their 40k incarnation has them, it's hardly an unprecedented step.

Not to mention I'm pretty sure that anon was referring to ''much artwork" in *general* shows a great degree of armour/colour variation, which is true. If we're talking WBs specifically, there's loads of art from Collected Visions showing them not only with red shoulderplates, but also in a mixed grey-red transitory scheme.

Word Bearers have silver trim, (typically) blue lenses, shit loads of Chaos sigils/writing, and their red is a dark burgundy.

Blood Angels have black/gold trim, (typically) green lenses, shit loads of blood/angel symbols, and their red is a bright blood red.

Literally the only way you could get them confused is if two equally lazy painters decided to put an undecorated WB beside an undecorated Angel Vermillion (who haven't even been mentioned in 30k yet, assuming they ever will be).

There's "good ugly", i.e. making something look ugly with beautiful techniques, and then there's "bad ugly", i.e. making something look ugly through sheer laziness and/or brain damage. It's the difference between painting Nurgle miniatures using a wide variety of weathering effects and technical paints or simply pouring literal vomit onto your models.

"His" miniatures fall in the second category, if that wasn't obvious enough.

Oddly enough, Reductor can't take Jet Packs.

Rad Grenades and a +1S weapon can ID Space Marines, which is cool. Rad Furnace makes it so that S4 weapons can ID Marines, but seeing as how Thallax with Heavy Chainblades are S7, the Furnace would be unnecessary unless your enemey was making heavy use of rad weaponry as well.

It's honestly depressing how terribly FW wrote the IM army list.

It's like they tried to copy the success of the Renegades army list, but applied absolutely no proofreading or playtesting.

Provenances? Oh sure they can add a lot of flavour, but enjoy the fact that only a handful mix well together, they're overwhelmingly melee-oriented in a mortal army list (wtf?), the only exclusives are for Traitors, and there seems to be no interest in adding more.

Infantry options? Sure, we'll give you loads of different infantry weapon options, but enjoy not having platoons, so the ostensibly-elite Solar Auxilia will handily outnumber you unless you spam Levies.

Vehicle options? Enjoy having only a paltry handful of the tanks/SPGs widely available even in other HH lists, let alone the broader FW/GW catalogue.

Want to transport your infantry? Shell out for those Gorgons goy, unless you go for one specific infantry unit in one specific Provenance. Want artillery? It's two stationary cannons or nothing. Want sentinels? Only scouts faggot. Want tanks? Swallow those Leman Russes, but with bizarrely limited sponson options.
