A length of rope? I mean, you can do everything (given length and material made from) from climbing to tripping enemies/monsters with it or even turn it into a weapon
>>50108573
It's a dick move because it works
>>50108646
True.
We're in a future setting but the party's too broke for proper future gadgetry, but future rope's pretty dope probably.
Fire. Then, more fire. Apply liberally to everything.

no, we're naming objects which are nearly always useful.
like rope, or a crowbar, or a lighter/tinderkit, or a plain serviceable utility knife
A whistle.
Any sort of quick-acting adhesive or tape.
Chalk, pencil, or some method of marking your location.
Paper or parchment.
Compass.
Emergency rations (not a euphemism)
Smelling salts, healing potions, stimulants, or anything that gets a comrade up and running
Shovel, usually doubles as hammer and weapon.
Bedroll.
Easy-burning fuel.
Some sort of easily controllable explosive.

Fuck I love Animal House. Great movie.

A gun with exactly one bullet.
Everytime shit is falling apart you need that bullet to shoot that other bastard PC who go you in that situation.
light sources
heatless if possible
flashlights, glow-sticks, ampoules of lumenol(blood lanterns), alchemical lights.
torches or lanterns if the above is not available
if glowsticks are available and affordable buy them even if you have a flashlight, cause they're disposable
Immovable rods are a personal favourite of mine, if magic gadgets are permitted. Piano wire or some hard to see max durability wire can make for some nasty traps among other uses.
I'm shocked no one has suggested the obvious.
