Those children eventually grew up, as children tend to do, and forgot about the old man. Until they started hearing their children talking about a kind old man in the house by the lake.
The adults were incredulous, they could not believe it was the same man from their childhood, that anyone could even live that long. And so a few of the braver ones, those who had spent the longest sat in the garden by the lake, and heard the most wonderful tales, set off.

Reaching the house, they were amazed to find it exactly as they had remembered it, seemingly lacking an owner, but not in disrepair. Entering the garden of their childhood dreams, the few adults felt as though they were but babes once more, looking over to see a kind old man tending his garden.
The old man looked over to them and greeted them as he always had, as though they had never stopped visiting and the last tale between them had been but yesterday.

The adults were shocked at first, but this wore off. They were, after all, in a place of memories, of happy days lost but not wasted.
And so it was that the brave few adults quickly searched their pockets, found the shiniest coins they had and paid for one more story. The story of the storyteller.
And it is this story that they passed around the rest of the village, to their friends, to their families, to their children. Becoming storytellers in their own right.

To this day the villagers will reccommend to any child, or any traveller, anyone with an afternoon to spend sitting still while being taken on a breathtaking journey, to take something precious, even if not valuable, to the old house by the lake, and ask for a story from the kind old man.

Hm, I can't tell if I'd rather have the last line or not, it's kind of needed to fully make the point that the story of the storyteller is passed around, but I'd like ending on the point of people becoming storytellers.
And even then I wanted to touch on the fact that everything given to him, he keeps. So he'll have shelves and shelves of junk, but it's all precious to him because it's what people brought to him when wanting to hear his stories.

A few points before I dive into the statistics bit. "A head taller than me" is still under 6', which isn't unreasonable considering median height for a white male in the USA is about 5'10"-5'11", though I don't know the standard deviation for that. I also said that he would like his job and feel driven there. Not that he'd necessarily make good money. So long as you follow the laws that Time Wars were fought over, you should be free to do as you please. Individual Travellers might have a bone to pick with you but there's no unified authority that controls everything on Ae, despite what some groups would like to think or have others believe. Travellers are a collection of PCs(player characters) pulled together, given access to some really shiny toys and let loose on the multiverse. This is exactly as scary and as awesome as it sounds.

With the Ring I can appear as a hapless human who truly believes a witch's trinket has made them immune to being the night's prey. Hell, that's how I got this way

Mind you I'm not the author but none of those abilities would be exclusive to you and there's a ton of ways to achieve those feats(and so much more) beyond just using ki or magic so I see no problem with it. For example 'teleport across space and into other dimensions' is just the upgraded bracer working as intended.

I remember Highlander saying that Travellers can and will achieve ludicrous amounts of power, if they live long enough. That's why they're all in a monogamous relationship with cheating. Travellers need to be able to make their own purpose, find their own happiness, forge their own path. The alternative is madness when confronted with the sheer vastness of an infinite multiverse. These are likely non-negotiable traits for potential Travellers.

Easiest way to wrap your head around it I've found, is to think of it like the Star Trek holodeck whenever you time travel. Say you're palling around with a tribe and you get word that a rival one is gonna come down the mountains and wipe the whole area out. You decide to travel forward to see for yourself or go backwards to scout out the opposition. This is where you go into the holodeck and get a realistic depiction of everything. Just like the holodeck, what happens in the 'past' or the 'future' has no bearing on where you just left. You're simply playing out potential outcomes or getting front row seats to whatever event you want to witness. Whatever happens there doesn't affect the prime timeline. If you wipe out the enemy tribe in the 'past', they'll still be there when you leave the holodeck. This makes it so time travel alone can't just solve your problems. It's an awesome tool but not an 'I win' button.

Just remember that unlike in Star Trek, when you time travel you're still affecting real people and real events. Treating them like playthings is likely a quick way to getting a lot of Travellers very angry with you.

Everybody knows about SDA, I doubt anybody who's been here for less a year is even aware that he makes cyoas too, too them he's just some of kindof shitposter.

Box Wine hasn't been seen since he finished the Hero Academy DLC, he's either working on more Hero Academy updates or on something new.

Strife has been churning out cyoas like a madman during the summer, his production rate has slowed down since October, and Italics anon hasn't been here in awhile either, probably working on more cyoas as we speak.

There's a couple of cyoa authors that only post anonymously including a Russian anon and maybe even someone from Norway and Germany and a few more named authors I missed and can't remember this instant, because they were just that unnoteworthy.

Yes, though I picture it being a tension point. Kami, spirits and lesser gods within the Travellers all vie for worship, as do some more mortal entities including a single pillar man but there are also egalitarians and detractors heavily opposed to such big headed notions. Such seekers of worship have kept things quiet, and it would be wise to avoid attention.

That is iffy. You could, though many would consider such things to be vanity projects. What an army can spend months to achieve a feeble Traveller could achieve with no trouble. A suit of evil power armor and lucid dreaming? Not bad I guess. The power armor is useless for me though, as I'd rather create than destroy. Even if the armor could find new victims and harvest them on its own (and thus be self-sustaining), unless aliens invade there is no need for such a weapon.

At this point, I think I'm mostly known just for holding the record of being in the most CYOAs. And smug.

Acheld hung out on the IRC for awhile but I think he was mostly driven away from Tunebuggy's /soc/ posting. I mean, the IRC is basically just Tunebuggy's blog at this point with the occasional, supremely rare bout of CYOA discussion. All day, it's just Tunebuggy and some guy named Eskarina flirting with each other. I don't know what to think of it, to be honest.

Box and Quiet also disappeared. Last I heard, Quiet had some shit to go through in Afghanistan or whatever shithole he lives in and never came back. Also was thinking of moving to Canada... apparently he has a citizenship here.

Box seemed eternally depressed for some reason.

kit comes on the IRC sometimes. Drunk, usually. Tends to ping me and cry about how his life sucks and that some of the songs I showed him awhile back touched him some way.

Strife was a good guy but was also driven away by the /soc/ discussions on the IRC. He always tried to talk about CYOAs.

There was a rare sighting of Spadesy a few months back, but I don't recall much of it. Hasn't been seen since.

Dumbledaft and Divergent have been dead for centuries, this place is probably gone from their memories by now.

I'm gonna be honest, #CYOA was never successful. The best we had was maybe when Scientist was active and always talking about his WIPs, but that was months ago. He hasn't appeared since and disappeared after he published his last work... I think it was the Highschool one. We always argued the differences between Illustrator and Photoshop.

But, lately, it's just Tunebuggy. I don't know where this Eskarina guy came from. The two of them just talk about their daily lives, but at least it populates the IRC with something. Otherwise, it'd be dead.

The narrative I've heard is that he currently lives in Pakistan and has distant relatives in Canada, he has the citizenship to visit them. When he was still posting WIPs he implied that he wants to immigrate and live/work in the states due to some fucked up shit happening there.
