The SWHR v0.5.0 is ready for scrutiny, so it's time for a new thread.

I will be posting PDFs shortly.
>>
Lots of new stuff this edition, so there will surely be lots of room for debate, discussion, and scrutiny.
If you see something you don't understand, or a typo; etc, let me know.

Updates will be slower than last weekend, but I'll be lurking so long as there's a thread.

I'm going to be away for a bit but I wanted to go ahead and get the thread in here before I go. I'll read up when I get back if anyone joins in.

Reposting a question I asked over in the other thread:

Are the striker bonuses gonna be reworked for the house rules? I found that some of the bonuses get weird because they're supposed to work explicitly for the DitS rules, like the P-40 Warhawk on the China table, which gives a bonus for Guns (AtG), but doesn't work because skills are now separated by firearm types. Will a striker bonuses table be included, or some footnote of how they're supposed to change for house rules?

I would actually make a note that the striker bonuses apply to using any gun-class weapon (so, not missiles or bombs) when engaging an airborne target, or a ground target instead. That's a much easier change than redoing the bonuses, and it keeps with my original intent that aircraft which were particularly hard-hitting against airborne targets got the AtA bonus, and aircraft which were notable for making air-to-ground attacks got the AtG bonus.

>>50104312
Good thing I refreshed the page before I posted that. I'm gone for the weekend (camping with no internet devices), but if there's any commentary or suggestions for the record sheet, I'd like to hear them and I'll pull suggestions out of the archive if necessary.

There was some in the other thread. Mostly stuff you haven't gotten around to putting on the sheet yet; familiar, more speed information (accel, etc), HP, and the stuff that's being added in the homebrew rules. As far as I'm concerned your overall layout and general theme is completely fine. I like the fact that the bar containing the attributes isn't fuckoff huge like it is on most of the BL/FFG percentile system games. The external ordnance section can probably be reduced in size, but I get that it makes a pretty sheet to have it there and that large. I'd consider moving the Striker box to the left and putting an equal-sized Familiar box next to it. Underneath, reduce the Ordnance box and have Speed/Magic/Hit Points all in a row.

Good work (and good work on the generator in the first place; I don't think I ever told you that in previous threads).

So our first session last sunday night went pretty well for introduction. The party is going to be based in Iceland, allowing for scenic vistas, mountainous dogfights, and relaxing hotsprings for the 510th Joint Fighter Wing, who has yet to figure out a name for themselves.

The plan is to run this sunday at 5 Eastern.

Here, have some below average drawfaggotry I started when the last thread was up but couldn't finish before it went down.
Anne S. Lehtovaara, proud suomi, also known as Erika S. for some (for reasons).

I also saw just after starting to draw that apparently I rolled the height in the old system, and ended up being 1,78m tall... but well I kinda went with that just because my weapon is already an astonishing 2,20m long, I didn't want the size disparity to be *that* big.

>>
>>50107463
Remember that the Neuroi poured out of the Black Sea, so several hundred kilometers north of Istanbul is gigantic super hive that the combined navies are probably doing their hardest to suppress enemy forces coming out of that area

>>50107587
Because the not!Ottomans aren't going to be Islamic anymore, and since there's no Muslims to overthrow the Sassanids, I figured Zoroastrianism would stick around way longer
>>

>>
>>50107617
I was gonna have them be Tegrist, but then I remembered that the Seljuks converted to Islam in OTL when they left the rest of the Oghuz Turks and moved into Persia, so in this timeline with Zoroastrianism still around they'd probably convert to that and take it west into Anatolia and the Balkans.

Fucking hell, Japan, why'd you have to kill the Jews and make everything so complicated.

Aye, another interesting part is that the lack of communism in this world leads to weird after effects. Karlsland has no radicalism, Orussia is still inefficiently absolute monarchist, no Communist Party to oppose the KMT thus creating a united China.

If there's gonna be a parallel Cold War, the conflict may instead be monarchism vs democracy or something

But that's enough historical speculation back to posting witches
>>
>>50107617
I've got "constant urban holding action in western Istanbul to keep the Bosphorus open so the ships can get in and out when shit goes bad" and "constant struggle to keep the Neuroi from getting a foothold on the eastern and southern coasts of the Black Sea by Nottoman and not!Russian forces" so far.

Also maybe ethnoreligious conflict being only barely held in check by the Neuroi that are RIGHT FUCKING THERE Spanish Civil War-style.

>>

I mean, like Japan's martial disciplines often focus on the strength of the user, whereas the discipline of using guns is one of the power of the weapon being used. Blah, brain's not working right.
>>
How would the remaining (read: non-Abrahamic) religions react to the existance of Witches? They seem to have been friendly to the Witches, because there are a metric fuckton of them.
>>
>>50111018
That's because those disciplines you're thinking of all are for close combat. Everyone's disciplines for close combat put a lot of focus on people's strength, because in close combat that's a very, very important thing.

It's also a very important thing in archery, but there's it's a bit more limited since it's a single motion that you're looking it.

For muzzle loading guns you're going to find focus shifting to various ways to make the user just stand there upright and calmly go through the long list of reloading steps, because handling a lit match and blackpowder in close proximity makes that very important. Though that can simply mean falling back on all the material you had already developed to help people not shit their pants as they were walking into combat with older style weapons, and is almost guaranteed to build heavily on your local religious and cultural practices.

But if you want some kind of US-Japanese mix here for martial valor based on musketry then it's the guy who stands there with a Clint Eastwood stoneface as bullets zips past, or through him, because he has already accepted his own death, and will simply do his duty (against his lord, the Lord, the community, or whatever) for as long as he can.

Which is pretty damn close to what chivalry originally was all about (though there a few good spirited jokes may be called for, like thanking the enemy for busting open an artery in your arm since you were pretty thirsty), or the laconic temperament cultivated by the Spartans.
>>
>>50111094
Movie says that humanity and the witches have been fighting Neuroi for millennia, so it seems that most cultures are friendly or support them

>Roman legionary witches putting down Neuroi in the deserts of Judea
>>
>>50111110
That's kind of what I was thinking. The combination of valor and reliance on stuff outside you.
>>
Would martial arts even exist as we know them? Martial arts are suppossed to give you an upper hand if you were fighting another human, but the current enemy can't be properly punched to death.

Also, if the Neuroi existed well before WW1, what form did they take? Catapults? Various other lazor firing siege weapons?
Maybe even the most powerful weapon of the medieval age: the Chevy Cobra?

>I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father. I kill with my heart.
>>
>>50111143
Movie showed off artistic representations of the Neuroi, which apparently looked more bestial than they do now.

Though the Africa doujin has the characters uncover an ancient Neuroi hive buried by the Egyptians, and when the Neuroi get released they look about the same as the Neuroi they're fighting today, possibly implying that the stranger designs the Neuroi come up with are a part of them adapting to fight the technology of WW2
>>
>>50111143
>>50111188
And considering world history still happens despite the occasional Neuroi attack, I'd say martial arts are still around and probably developed similarly to real life. Official timeline already shows their history has mostly human vs human wars.
>>
>>50111143
Depends on how you know martial arts.

That martial arts are purely unarmed, or purely close combat is a very recent idea, that may be held mostly by those who only know martial arts from direct to VHS action movies.

Go back a bit and you'll find that they are simply anything to do with fighting, that has been systematized a bit and are taught as such. "Martial arts" isn't a name , it's a description. You can find both old European manuscripts and surviving old Japanese schools mixing wrestling, fencing, reconnaissance and siege craft. Anything martial, honed to an art, which may involve making a science out of it.

And yes, this means that the stuff the army teach you as a fresh recruit is all properly martial arts.

The feelgood "fighting" workouts, octagon duelling and black belt factories may be less of a thing though, as outright war does tend to weed out the bullshido here in a rather terminal way.

Anne actually has several pairs of different colors but all the same model because of an oversight when she bought most of them. Basically it has a few ribbons up top but it's a kinda plain if showy cut, just because it gives a bit more freedom. She's very practical, after all.

Its no problem. I can sorta see why it was stuck as a power, deflection shooting is very hard to master due to all the diffrent things that have to be taken into account.

>Witches launching in mid-air from bombers

Can this be a thing?
>>
>>50123463
I don't see why not, there have been multiple accounts in the strike witches universe where witches have caught each other in mid-air. It would be safe to assume that a modified bomber could carry them like parasite fighters.

Also, it would be fucking terrifying for the enemy. They think They're going to get an easy kill on a lone bomber. Then suddenly it starts launching a load of witches.
>>
>>50123549
We actually used this in one of our campaigns.

It does seem like something quite difficult to pull off effectively, I mean, you need to handle at least as many variables as you'd need to in regular long range sniping, if not even more. Your pic is a good example again!

And no problem, I kinda am too, and now that I think of it, I used to play a lot of War Thunder some time back but just now I realize (and am glad) that the game had a system to show you where to fire to account for the deflection.

>>50123256
Of course! What else would she wear to missions over a jungle, should it happen?

>Westland Welkin
Ultra-high altitude heavy fighter meant to intercept German high-altitude bombers in the stratosphere over Britain, with pressurized cockpit (which still wasn't enough to allow breathing air at the expected engagement altitude of 45000 ft and the pilot wore a pressure suit anyway so he could bail out), dual-layer cockpit glass (inner for pressure containment, outer for aerodynamics, gap full of hot air to prevent frosting), and wings so long and thick for lift they had horrible compressibility issues at high altitude (you slow down, you stall). Fuso's already a sorta-democracy though, militaristic yeah but they still got an election process going on assuming they didn't go full imperial in which case they're the odd ones out in this conflict

So Liberion would form a pan-pacific alliance with Fuso and China, and then instigate revolutions in the European colonies and instead of Korea, war is fought either in India or in one of the Gallian colonies

Britannia would be the wild card. Sure, they love their monarch and got a fuckton of colonies that need FREEDOM, but being not!Britain they'd make a big stink about being a constitutional monarchy and having elections, and how they would prefer to leave behind a parliamentary system instead of an absolute monarchy

This is getting too complicated for a franchise about pantsu girls shooting aliens

>European Union of Gallia, Hispania, Karlsland, Venezia, Orussia, Baltland, and maybe Ostomans

Since Hispania had their version of a Spanish Civil War, they'd probably be under military dictatorship and neutral in this Cold War, and if Ostoman is early 1900s Ottoman Empire they'd be parliamentary like Britannia, probably sympathetic to democracy, but terrified of the monarchist alliance up north.

Instead, add in Ostmark and Persia, since both had ruling dynasties.

So since we just got our 38th witch of the JFW, I have a somewhat tenuous organizational structure for the 509th.
-3 Squadrons of 12 witches, each commanded by a Squadron Leader
-In a squadron there are 3 flights of 4 witches, each commanded by a Flight Lieutenant

Note: this is constantly expanding as new witches are created/"recruited" in these threads
>>
>>50125918
I'm not Mexico-pilot-grandfather-anon, I'd say "No way Jose"
>>
>>50126746
So should we assign squadron leaders and flight lieutenants by age?
>>
>>50129667
I think squadron leaders are assigned on a campaign to campaign basis
>>
>>50129667
>>50130273
Yeah, we'd need to assign the leaders dependign on who would be in what game. No use assigning them until we know who's going where. I dunno if making the leaders player characters would go over well. It tends to end up badly. However, that means they'd all need to be NPCs.
>>
>>50130360
Having leader PCs (maybe just as flight lieutenants) would make for an interesting dynamic, but there has to be good roleplaying to make it happen. Which is rare in games.
>>
>>50126059
Thanks a lot, anon, I'm very happy for the positive feedbac.! And thank you so much for including Anne in your picture there too, it's just too cute.
>>
>>50129667
Just a side note: if I understanding the RAF ranks correctly, outside of flight lieutneants, squadron leaders, and of course the wing commander, other witches in the JFW are a combination of flying officers, pilot officers, and flight sergeants. My assumption was that flight sergeants usually serve as low ranking pilots or as instructors in the JFW they are attached to, while pilot officers and flying officers make up the bulk of a wing. Also, keep in mind that flying officers and pilot officers are the same pay grade and are usually not treated as though one has seniority over the other. For all intents and purposes, they are more or less the same.

One last note: all squadrons have a combat commander and an out-of-combat commander for operations. This, of course, does not include the instructor for the entire squadron.
>>

This is completely insane, you can't just make a alternate history where Christianity doesn't exist and have Europe turn out so similarly to how it did in our reality. The effects of a change like that would lead to an incredibly different society.
>>
>>50137544
But you can. There are no laws stating that you can't and if there were rules just to satisfy retarded autists such as yourself no one wouls be able to create anything imaginative.
>>
>>50137655
Now now, anon is technically right, such a divergence would create a vast alternate history that is sure to be interesting if done on its own. But a work does not have to be realistic, only consistent with itself, and we're here to talk about girls flying around with leg attachments in their underwear fighting aliens.

And, personally, I find that making sure their history parallels ours but with noticeable differences in the details is quite fun for speculation.

0.6 is just going to be tweaks, more weapons; maybe re-doing Vision, and we'll see where it goes from there.
Semester's winding down so I'll have some more free time in a month or so, so if 1.0 hasn't happened by December it definitely will around the first week there in; I'll just throw a couple of days into slamming together whatever I haven't finished.

If anyone has questions, comments, or requests link to this post or one of the OP posts and ask away.

>>
>>50103409
Okay, I have to ask.
What does flat b-cup, perky b-cup and sub a-cup mean. I'm a woman so you'd think I'd somewhat understand what that means (I mean I literally see boobs every day) and I'm a lesbian with a gf on top of that (which means I see more than my own boobs on a somewhat regular basis) but I'm completely lost here.
What does it mean dude?
>>
>>50142104
As a witch, I feel entitled to reply that I just don't know.
Actually, I think that those differences are meant to just give more options inside a given cup size. Basically rather than implying that "A, B, C" etc are always the *same* size with no differences whatsoever, so there's some variation of what fits comfortably inside that cup size. Most probably just a difference of a few centimeters or in their overall shape. So a sub-A cup is almost flat but not quite flat, while a Full A-cup is as good as A gets. Flat B cup is just a little bit more than A, while Perky B can almost go into C territory. Et al.
That's just my thesis though, am no expert.

I guess that sounds about right. Boobs come in all kind of shapes and sizes anyways. Thing a lot of guys don't realize is that cup-size isn't everything and the general diameters of the chest are just as important. Bras are confusing. I had a friend of mine who is very well informed about brasizes and stuff (because she can only wear costum-made bras... her boobs are quite big) and I still don't fully understand it.
So well... it is nice that there is some variety but I think it is still kinda confusing and needs explanation in the book (atleast a little bit).
>>
So, a lot of people came and watched last night. Not a problem, the witches of the 510th are used to performing for an audience.

Unfortunately the dice were a bit of a bitch in the Training Flight One witch had to replace a damaged prop before she could takeoff, one had her revolver almost crack itself in half because it got thrown off-cycle, and three of the five got peppered with frag grenade shrapnel that left them (or at least their uniforms) a bit holey.

They would have dealt with a second training target, but i got pulled away due to a car crash outside my apartment a large winter squall was bearing down on their location, meaning if they wanted to get out of Russia before its trapped under 3 feet of snow, they need to hurry and pack.

All in all it went decently I think. We will need a better dice platform than rolz though.
