Fox's Cunning Edition: Will you finally play kitsune wizards, sage sorcerors, magi, alchemists, investigators, occultists, psychics, psions, cryptics, harbingers, dervish defenders, etc. now that kitsune can have +2 Intelligence?

Creation Sphere Playtest is still new and needs more people tearing it apart! I've had a busy couple of days but plan on getting to some of the more in depth revisions this weekend so please help with pointing them out and suggesting fixes!

So, I posted this question a few threads back, but I think it got lost because it was kind of a wall of text, so I'll post the short version:

I want to give my players at-will use artifacts. Powerful enough to affect the way they play their characters, but not so powerful as to be exploited. The face feels useless in combat, and the beater just sits on his phone in social situations. I was thinking of giving the beater some sort of Rock of Detect Alignment or something.

Thoughts? How should I design these artifacts?
>>
>>50096088
Those aren't artifacts, artifacts are meant to be powerful enough that they don't have to follow normal magic item rules any longer and completely warp campaigns around them.

You're thinking of custom magic items.

What classes are the face and beater?
>>
>>50096117
Eyebiter Mesmerist and Serpent-Flame Adept Monk.

And the third player is a Psychic Duelist, but I'm less worried about him. He's a clever cookie.

How well can a Harbinger do ranged stuff? Half-Int to Attack and eventually Int to damage(meaning potentially X4 int to damage with Elemental Nimbus Kirin style tree) seems hella tempting.
>>
>>50097316
Feat starvation, none of your base disciplines net you ranged strikes (VM has a couple but they are the weaker ones) which means both of your discipline trades will have to be for stuff that nets you that, and plenty of class features that don't work half as well as a ranged attacker.
>>
>>50097000
Some good archetypes of LE are.
>Dr. Doom,. power hungry manipulative chessmaster.
>Pontius Pilate, ruler uncaring of justice or the wellbeing of his subjects, just wants to mantain his power.
> Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre dame, an arrogant and malicious priest using a religious instutution to justify his actions.
>Gaston from beauty and the Beast. A selfish bully who supports the community becau they idealize him and basks on their praises
>>
>>50097397
DM is using some quality of life feat tax reductions and I'm not going to be full attacking for various reasons. Fuck why does Path of War have to be ranged unfriendly. Melee only this and melee only that. Especially for the fucking SU disciplines, makes no sense.
>>
>>50097429

In this case, you could stack even more INT bonus damage on top with 4 levels of Grenadier Alchemist.

Assuming PoW is allowed, is toughness, narrow frame, martial charge and as many feats into martial training (broken blade) the optimal build for animal companions?
>>
>>50097444

What ability lets them do that.

If it's the coat weapon thing, that won't work due to the ephemeral nature of my weapon and since you can't use rays with strikes I'm stuck with Boosts and Counters(mainly counters and some utility boosts) until at least initiator level 10.
>>
>>50097472
It is the imbue weapon thing and explosive missile discovery. a total of 3xint (+the bomb/item damage) more if you use focused admixture.
>>
>>50097472
Anyway I think I might just quick with that nonsense, because this build eats swifts like a mother fucker. 8 levels of Aegis With Initiator's Soul with that +2 Initiator Trait to net Double Int to Damage, though now I'm questioning is it even worth staying in Aegis that long just for that. There's not a whole lot out of it that I want besides helping me out the Psionic fluff I want.

Your attack bonus is low enough, so don't bother with Rapid Shot.

Improved Initiative will let you fire that first shot or start singing earlier.
Arcane Strike will get you a small bonus to hit and damage.
Skill Focus will start you on the path towards Eldritch Heritage feats.

That sounds like it would get boring this first few times you do this.

Bard / Skald - Focus on Perform (Oratory) to make speeches to Inspire Courage or Inspire Rage.
Wizard (Conjurer) - Summon monsters to fight for you.
Bannerman (Warlord) - Specialize in Golden Lion boosts to grant your allies bonuses and extra actions.
Mystic - Use Elemental Glyphs to give bonuses. Switch a discipline to Golden Lion for the above reason.
Zealot - See the class.
Tactician - See the class.

>>50098597

Yuuuuup, it's Veiled Moon, and easily one of the (visually) coolest disciplines in the book.

I know I'm like two threads late, but check out my forgework document that I made a long while back for making heavily armored, punchman warriors.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11PB2diPJRaIQjwWeycsI4CjMHo9orpGa0K_BaUjvKWM/edit?usp=drive_web

There are a set of weapons called Armored Fists that allow you to punch people without needing IUS, as they are martial weapons. They are also light, but that doesn't matter if you go the prodigious two weapon fighting route. There also body wraps which do the same thing, but with less style. If you pick up exotic weapon proficiency (Armored Fist), you also gain a + 1 shield bonus, +2 if you are using wielding two or more armored fists, as well as allowing you to use them as shields.

Then, go into Soulknife, and grab the Augmented Blade Soulknife. Its stackable with Warsoul if you want to be an initiator. Don't forget the free gifted blade, assuming your GM allows it.

Augmented blade does a few things for you. Namely, you get access to heavy armor, and you can get TWF right out the gate as a bonus feat at level 1. You also get a psi crystal, which you can use to gain a +4 to initiative. At 4th level, you can gain access to the Split Crystal blade skill, allowing you to imbue them without going through the pain of enhancing them via gold.

Soul knife has all sorts of goodies, like a blade skill that allows you to poach Deadly Fist blade skills(Such as the Flurry line), but you can check that out yourself.

Gifted blade has a list of powers like thicken skin, force screen, and precognitive defense that all allow you to boost your AC further.

On the Warsoul side, you get Broken Blade naturally, and its a free swap to get Fools Errand. Being psionic, Sleepy goddess is a good grab as well. Combined with all of the above, and you should be a heavily armored, brawling machine.

I hope you see this and it helps, armored brawler anon!

It's a dynamic process, but usually I start with a class (and possibly an archetype) and race that looks fun, then work from there. At that point I piece together scraps to get an idea of how they'd act and the immediate family, and by then usually I know what setting/scenario they'd be for so I look at integrating them.

Though sometimes an idea just pops into my head and I have to scramble to find a class/race that works. One character I've had shelved has undergone like, five different builds and a bucket of homebrew minimum, but I still have yet to play them. One day Kai, one day you'll get to be a badass dragonblood and woo your childhood waifu.

A friend is joining a gestalt game I'm running and wants to be vampire Dio. Problem is that he's never played D&D before. Any advice for picking beginner friendly combinations? Starting at 5th level if that helps
>>
>>50100353
So some things about Dio:
>He was NOT a spell caster (not really)
>He had his stand The World
>He has eyelasers

First one side will have to be the Spiritualist to simulate the stand itself. Though I don't think there is a Spiritualist archetype that gives up spell casting. The other half should be a UC monk of some kind. Carry a bunch of throwing knives.
>>
>>50100353
You need to explain to him that Vampire Dio won't happen until at least level 17, ECL 18 if he insists on vampire (Since DSP vampire is worth at least one level and paizo vampire template is PC-unfriendly).
If he still insists, Steelfist Comando Warlord//Imperial bloodline Sorcerer comes close enough.
Also, wtf is this new select an area captcha?
>>
>>50100353
Read the OP faggot what materials are you allowed to use?
>>
How do I Bard properly? It's an all Bard party,

All 1pp allowed, 32 point buy, starting at level 4, and I want to do a Sound Striker/Magician to ensure that I have a unique role in the party. I have never played a Bard or seen a Bard played in person. Act like I am a massive babby scrub with this.
>>
>>50100416
We don't have to worry about za wurdo because he just wanted Phantom Blood Dio

>>50100429
Yeah, we're going to alter the template to make him mostly a vampire in name only for now

>>50100440
My bad. DSP and Core
>>
>>50100337
Beast Shape/Monstrous Physique/Giant Form/Form of the Dragon can be effectively replicated by Magic Jar/Marionette Possession.
>>
>>50100512
>We don't have to worry about za wurdo because he just wanted Phantom Blood Dio
Then be a Steel Fisted Commando, you don't even need a second half to the gestalt, just make sure it isn't a spell caster. Hell a Steel Fisted Commando/Base Harbinger would be fine (though it splits int/cha).
>>
>>50100505
>Sound Striker/Magician
Essentially that is one of the most generic ways to play bard.

What you need to find out is what the others are (what roles they fill). Bards can fill the following roles to a greater or lesser extent:
>ranged
>melee
>debuffer
>buffer
>utility
>general support

They're dogshit at summoning/battlefield control for the most party.

To be unique you need to fill a role that isn't already.

As a Sound Striker/Magician you'd be debuffer/utility with a bit of blasty (but bards are dog shit at blasty).
>>
>>50100173
>barbarian with similar optimization I would be hitting for 1d12+20
You'd probably be using a greatsword since that has a better crit profile and slightly better average damage.

More importantly, you're doing two attacks already, meaning your potential output is 2d8+22 (against the average CR-appropriate enemy you;re hitting on 6s). Sure the barbarian is getting an iterative next level, but so are you. But you don't need to move up to an enemy to hit them, so you're more likely to get off a full attack. Not only that, but at level 6 you can take Manyshot, giving you a potential fourth arrow.
>>
>>50100512
Take some Elemental Flux maneuvers to get cold damage to attacks.
>>
>>50100536
>Marionette Possession.
As, that's what you meant.

And no they can't really, you just their physical scores don't add on to your own, which is a lot weaker than polymorphs at high strength. If I'm optimizing my physical stats I need the +10 rather than being set to a number.

Hell a properly made fighter is naturally stronger than a dragon with his gear, and fuck making gear for the dragon to wear.
>>
>>50100573
Both of the other party members are multiclassing, one is going Bard/UC Rogue with a whip, the other is going Bardbarian.

I'll be trying to fill the real caster role, possibly with Archery feats.
>>
>>50100579
At high levels melee blows ranged out of the water for damage though.
>>
>>50100593
I assume you're doing this as a non-physically based caster of some kind.

Plus it does have the added benefit of not using up your health pool when you die.
>>
So lets see
Given the rules for the rise of the jade regent, I think Wolf-girl will reasonable be able to access the following styles on the fly.

Archon Style - For giving AC to allies, tanking. Not ideal.
Boar Style - Obtainable but not very good
Brute Style - New Bae, lay on the extra attacks and trips.
Crane Style - AC tanking, AOOs, obtainable, not sure
Dragon Style - Style, ferocity, stunning fist, good for damage
Fox Style - Just a worse Kitsune Style?
Grabbing Style - Grab two dudes at once!
Jabbing Style - probably worse damage than dragon?
Janni Style - Mobility and flying kicks, excellent on the charge
Kitsune Style - Literally better fox style, dirty tricks
Kraken Style - Weird Sunder/Grapple thing. Don't think its good.
Linnorm Style - Go ahead, hit me... Kinda meh.
Outslug Style - Some mobility and punchy-punchy, nice. Have to take lunge but worth probably
Panther Style - I'll eventually have the Wis but.. Eh?
Pummeling Style - Overshadowed by Greater Beast. I guess can still use for DR avoidance.
Snapping Turtle - Probably never use this
Street Style - Flavorful fun for back-alley-head-bashing
Tiger Style - I don't get it. Just bad
Wolf Style - I really like this, but might be overshadowed by Brute hard.

S'pretty good.
>>
This is probably just a glitch in my Hero Lab (gestalt isn't offically supported so it probably is), But i have to ask.

Sacred Fist/Monk Gestalt.

My program is telling me that Since Sacred fist Unarmed Strike counts as Monk Levels for unarmed strike, that i effectively have double my levels for the purposes of unarmed strike. So at level 6 i've got the unarmed strike of a level 12.

I highly doubt this is right, but then again Gestalt is all kinds of bonkers.
>>
>>50100649
that probably isn't how it would work in a real game.
>>
>>50100649
Read the rules of gestalt, if a class gives the same class feature, take the better of the 2 progressions
>>
>>50100585
Alternatively, consider an Undead Bloodline Sorc/Rager for the other half of the gestalt. It even has Chill Touch.
>>
>>50100636
Tiger and Wolf are actually pretty alright. Tiger's big thing is Tiger Claws, which is effectively a launcher that you can use in conjunction with Tiger Pounce to move people around. Plus you can apply the Power Attack penalty to your AC instead of your attack roll.

Brute is honestly pretty underwhelming if you look at it, it seems like a combat style designed for monster more than players since the initial feat has no use unless you've got 10 feet of reach. Not to say that Wolf is much better since it relies very heavily on being able to do a lot of damage as an AoO, but if you combo it with Scorpion Style you can trigger Wolf Savage pretty often.

My character for the Rise/Jade Regent campaign is an Aberrant Aegis/Hekatonkheires Symbiat, with the Symbiat portion focusing on the Telekinesis and Alteration spheres. Unfortunately, my knowledge of Spheres isn't as great as I would like, so I'd like some advice.

What Spheres work well without full caster level and with only a few talents? Besides Warp, which I already plan on taking at least a few talents in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
>>
>>50100609
Nevertheless, do ensure your mobility or at least have a backup ranged weapon on hand, for those occasions where you can't quite get your hands on the target like you were hoping to do.

A revolver or double-pistol will hit fairly reliably as long as someone tells you which way towards enemy.

Interesting, but With Dragon and Pummeling i've got difficult terrian and allies out of the way, plus a "pounce". The 90 degree swerve might be interesting tho.

So just to make sure I'm reading this right, when crafting magic items, with just increasing the DC by 5, I can go from a minimum of 1k worth of a work a day in an 8 hour period, to doing 2k worth of a work in an 8 hour period (1k worth of work in a 4 hour chunk)? It says I can't work LONGER, but two 4 hour chunks is still 8 hours.

>This process can be accelerated to 4 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item's base price (or fraction thereof) by increasing the DC to create the item by 5.
>The caster can work for up to 8 hours each day. He cannot rush the process by working longer each day, but the days need not be consecutive, and the caster can use the rest of his time as he sees fit.
>>

Here's a thought: Combat Style Master. You can start a round in Dragon and Charging Stag, then switch Charging Stag for Pummeling as a free action mid-charge (after your 90-degree turn). I'm assuming MoMS.

Am I an asshole for giving an enemy this:

>Hellem's Gauntlet
>Hellem's Gauntlet is an enormous contraption of metal and stone that is worn over the hand and forearm. Three free spinning metal sigils on the forearm move to detect the Linger Aura to teleportation spells. When within 15 feet of a Lingering Aura of the teleportation subschool the wearer can pinpoint it. By spending a full round action the wearer can tear open a hole to where ever the teleportation effect lead, allowing himself to pass through. Alternatively he may reach through to attempt to pull something back, making a CMB check to drag the enemy through the portal. Whenever an enemy the wearer is threatening uses a teleportation effect he may use an immediate action in an attempt to drag him back through, as per the drag combat maneuver. If successful the enemy does not teleport and instead remains in their square. This ability may only be activated once every 1d4 rounds (rolled after use).

>How does Gestating a Sphere Caster Work?

>>
>>50101439
That's just grappling and doing nonlethal damage.

Check out the Warder class and the Fiendbound Marauder archetype for it, since that gives you probably the easiest entry into grappling (it gives you the grab ability).

To actually be effective at mid/high levels, though, you need at least 9 levels of Monk with the Tetori archetype, so that you can cancel out Freedom of Movement and actually be able to grapple at all, since by level 10+ a bunch of enemies will have that and be un-grappleable.
>>
>>50102292
So with a valet familiar you get 4k worth done a day. If you also hire someone with cooperative crafting it boosts to 6k worth done a day.

If you're a dwarf wizard taking arcane builder you can get a maximum of 37500 done a day. This will allow you to make the most expensive wondrous item in the game The Mirror of Life Trapping in 11 total 4 hour sessions, for 5 and a half days of work.

I threw this backstory together in about an hour, Whatddya think?

Onryo(?) Kaijitsu is one of Lonjiku's cursed children. Borne through normal copulation with his wife, Atsuii; Onryo was a complete shock. neither of them, to their knowledge, had engaged in enough demonic activity to cause them to bear a tiefling. Giving some creedece to some long curse on their bloodline.

While they still loved her as a daughter they hid her away as best they could. Keeping her on inside their manor in Magnimaar at all times, resigned to give her a gilded cage to save face with the rest of the Varsisan well to do. However, her voracious appetite and her natural rowdyness kept that from happening. The little demon child ate nearly as much as three adults, and broke nearly everything that could be broken for fun. It became increasingly difficult to keep Onryo's nature under wraps to the point it was simply an open secret.

This when they happened upon a traveling cleric of Iori, and requested that he attempt to instill some sort of discipline in the wild child.

The Cleric took in young Onryo and make her his apprentice for 4 years. While the Wild Child is still there after those years of schooling, She now has a sense of "Time and Place" and "Moderation". In addition, her primary vices were channeled into constructive means. She learned culinary arts, and martial arts. She gained a fair amount renown for her talent and artistry in cooking, swinging her reputation back from Unruly demon child to somewhat respectable demon child.

She now currently plies her trade as a chef at her older sister's establishment, the Rusty Dragon.

Figuring out the Craft skills I want to take, mostly. Gotta figure out a good balance between "shit the party will use" and "shit that might be fun to use." Weaponsmith is a useful skill, but Winemaker sounds as much fun as Glassmaker as Mason as Painter. It's an effort to fine-tune exactly what sort of craftsman this character is, and even though I've got enough skill points to get 5-6 skills, that's still 5-6 out of maybe 20.

I'm thinking of settling on Painting/Weapons/Jewelry/Sculptor/Clockworks, but if you've got any suggestions I'm all ears.

I'm looking at it on a Sphere Magus because I was shopping around for the ability to modify appearance for fluff reasons, but that's a lot of resources for something so simple. >a thought on why dogs are important to humans & why goblins hate dogs

Your average goblin will, at level 1, have a +10 to stealth checks (average 14 dex, +4 size, +4 racial). If they are trained and dexterous this can, for an NPC, jump to +15 (17 dex, +1 rank, +3 class skill, +4 size, +4 racial).

Your average human commoner will have a +0 to perception checks. A naturally wise and trained commoner can have up to +6.

On a take 10, a goblin can hide from an average commoner unless he rolls a 20. On the same take 10 a skilled goblin becomes impossible to find for an average commoner, and only locateable by a skilled commoner on a 19-20.

Now we all know goblins love to eat babies, and as such goblins will try and infiltrate human communities to find them.

This is where dogs come in. Not only does a common dog have a +8 to perception, but he also has scent. Goblins can not readily hide their scent, making their tracks findable on a take 10 for the dog, and once they get within 5 feet they can pinpoint the goblin.

Next is CR. A common goblin is 1/3 cr, as is a common dog. A commoner is also 1/3 cr. An average commoner has less than a 50/50 chance however because your average raiding goblin is a warrior as opposed to a commoner. A dog tips this in the commoner's favor however allowing him a much better chance at victory.

The dog is the natural friend of the commoner plagued by baby eating goblins, and the natural enemy of said goblins.

Let's talk about world building for a moment friends, and in particular food and restaurants. In the modern era the idea of restaurants, essentially establishments purely dedicated to serving food, is actually not a very old one. The modern idea of the restaurant was born out of the French Revolution and the aftermath there after.

For most of history the idea of having a chef prepare food for you was limited to the wealthy and powerful, often nobility, but otherwise as well. Private chefs were the name of the game for most of history. One could secure food at dormitories, meeting houses, and the like, but they were generally poor affair made by the unskilled, and "modern" restaurants were almost unheard of.

After the french revolution a lot of nobility died, and a lot of chefs were out of work. This lead to the invention of the modern restaurant. This is also the reason french cuisine and french cooking styles dominate classical culinary education.

So the question is, does your setting include modern restaurants? And if so what cultural climate allowed them to exist?

In my game, said taverns will basically be modern pubs with food quality depending on the chef. The city itself is a cosmopolitan northern metropolis with an institution of higher learning and a busy port.

At level 3 a party can easily afford the magical package, at level 2 they can easily afford either the mundane or alchemical.

That really depends. Toxicant can Daze a target at level 6, which effectively removes them from combat, and their poison is more debuff-focused. Eldritch Poisoner can only stagger until level 15, and their poison is more damage-focused.

>My character had a diet of exclusively water, mayonnaise, and animal blood.

Why?

>some extra attacks on prone foes
First feat is pretty much useless
Second feat gives you an extra attack against a prone opponents...that doesn't stack with medusa's wrath neither greater trip...so nothing? you get ONE extra attack instead of tons of other potentially extra attacks? woah, so great
Third feat is ok though

Yeah, basically.
You can use other swift, free action stuff like Smite Evil or similar for example.

I think Esoteric should be the one winning though.

Could be cultural thing - half-French/half-Inuit

>and their tiny SA progression is barely anything when Treacherous Toxin (either of them) exists.
But that has this line to prevent it from being useful: "This can't cause the save DC to exceed 15 + 1/2 your character level."

How are you getting the DC to 50?

Please note, plasma's a really bad thing. so don't recommend it to players, but it's a good thing to make a high damage weak attack that can't hurt the well prepared but burns civvies like bankers at Auschwitz.

because of the half and half, BOTH immunities apply to their halves, and BOTH resistances apply to their halves. So a plasma weapon dealing 20 damage, against someone with resist 10 and 10, takes 0.

I'm making a Kitsune Fighter that uses the new feat to let it choose human feats to get the human feat Racial Heritage to get proficiency in the Ratfolk Tail Blade, then burning all my other feats, including Fighter Combat feats, on Magical Tail to get nine-tails by level 8-ish. Should be fun.
