Let's get something constructive going on.

Let's make our own profile for Magnus. I elect that he would be WS: 7 with 6's in everything except attack. LD: 10 of course.

What kind of psychic powers is he going to have?

Horus - a regular dog, used to be the Emperor's.
Lorgar - a ram, for sacrifices.
Ferrus - used to have an 80% cybernetic rhino. Then it blindly charged something and got its horn chopped off.
Dorn - don't know, maybe an elephant? Or maybe a goat.
Sanguius - a leopard, pretty sure I've seen him associated with them (in skin form at least) Or a hawk.
Alpharius - a snake, possibly a few snakes, no-one is sure.
Fulgrim - white tiger with a diamond collar.
Lion'el - actually not a lion, they give him flashbacks to the forest; he has a pet Watcher instead. Or a cat.
Perturabo - an automata in the shape of whatever animal he wants this week. Goes through them pretty quickly.
Magnus - a crow. Or perhaps an owl - looks smart, but is actually pretty dumb for a bird.
Angron - a lion or fighting bear.
Mortarion - komodo dragon, or something else that's toxic as fuck.
Guilliman - an eagle maybe? Something regal and associated with Rome, anyway.
Corvus corax - common raven.
Khan - some equine variant big enough for a primarch, or a hunting bird.
Vulkan - a salamander, clearly.
Curze - do I need to say this one? Yes, bats, duh.

>perhaps an owl - looks smart, but is actually pretty dumb for a bird.
>Owls are the most infamous killers in the bird world. Most of them are nocturnal with puffy heads and eyes like windows upon which are thrown shadows of nightmare. They like to confess to their killings, to the point of bragging. Owls dispatch their victims mostly through bludgeoning, and sometimes by strangulation. They're found of a bit of scalping from time to time, though mostly for fun. A woman was killed by an owl for the crime of having clashing patterns on her outdoor furniture. A case from 1971 of ow-on-human necrophila remains in dispute.

>In stark contrast to the brutality of their crimes, owls are frequently described as educated and charming, though "smelly". In the darkness before dawn they can occasionally be seen running in gangs with escaped circus clowns and Goth kids out past curfew. Their mating is an almost indescribable, difficult experience to observe, with the participants sometimes dying of pleasure. A barn owl (Tyta alba) once successfully impersonated a mailman for several months in St. Charles, Illinois. If you see an owl, or suspect someone may be an owl, play dead immediately, and play it like you're whoring for an Emmy. 134 species in the world; 18 in North America

Orbital assault I guess?

Would infiltrating/outflanking terminators be shit?

Praetor :170
2+4++, Paragon Blade Digital Lasers

Centurion: 120, Champion
2+5++, Nostraman Chainglaive

Troops: 665 (so close to the edge)
2x Terror Squad: 440

Sargent: Artificer Armor and Nostraman Chainglaive

Terror Squad: 225
10 guys
Sargent: Artificer Armor and Nostraman Chainglaive, Melta Bombs

Elites: 545 Points

Apothecarion Detachment
3x Apothecary: 135

Contemptor Dreadnought: 190
Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon

Thoughts? Criticisms ?

Terror squads with bolters seem a waste. I get you're working off BaC, but what I'd do is leave the bolters off "for painting" (you should be doing that anyway after all) and try out a few games proxying them with bolters and volkite. You can always put the bolters on later if you want.

Also, do the terminators have the teleport gubbins? If not, they should.
>>
>>50070175
I plan on ordering Gorgons and Justaerin soon for each if my armies. They both just cool

1 burning of prospero box.

I want to do thousand sons, and I want infantry slogging and focus more on defensive aspect.

What purchases will be good?

I'm thinking of getting a Sicaran, apothecaries and a Deredeo so I have some general and air defense, but nothing really set beyond that.
>>
>>50070944
I have enough spare boltpistols /chainswords to convert the Tactical Squads.

The Terminators do not have the gubbins, I'm unfamiliar with what they do are they worth the points for just one squad?
>>
>>50070535

scythes with horizontal blades would make awful weapons
>>
>>50070928
The Iron Cage was Fluffems' idea. Pert didn't care, but Fluffems hates the color yellow.
>>
I'm really looking forward to building a Death Guard legion, I'm just going through the Red Book and some old forum posts trying to get a grip on what I want - I really want to utilise their Terminators because they're fluffy and awesome but I have a couple of practical worries (I've been out of the game since 5th so bear with me a little bit)

I'm looking to make a 2000 point force to start and then expanding outward, but am I fucking myself over at the start by wanting Death Shrould + HQ and Grave Wardens in Land Raiders? Is that too big a sink at that point level?

I also want to do big 20 man blobs covered by artillery because that seems fluffy as fuck too for DG, but am I just wasting points on something that's going to get flattened early on without doing much?

Sorry if I'm asking dumbass questions, I'm just not that practiced!
>>
>>50071050
Paints and time.
>>
>>50071063
Generally, terminators spending several turns walking up the board just die like expensive bitches. Night lords can give their terminators deep strike for 15 points for the squad, which will help with this. If you're not sticking them in a transport vehicle, I'd strongly recommend teleporting them in.

It's somewhat doable - they're slow, but if you pick one of their Rites all infantry in open ground can have a big chemical cloud concealing them (5+ cover save as long as no-one is within 12"), they're generally tough, mass teleport from Orbital Assualt is a valid and fluffy choice (the DG are the legion most able to spam terminators), and there's a character that gives 3 units infiltrate.
>>
So I just finished reading Horus Rising for the first time, does anybody have any cool art of the Interex?

>>50071164
You'll want some mobile elements so you can actually get to objectives or to far-away targets (plus a few tanks to keep enemy anti-tank weapons busy), but Death Guard are better at footslogging than most legions.

At 2000 points I'd be surprised if you could fit Deathshrouds AND Grave Wardens AND transports for both, in addition to some infantry blobs and artillery to hold the line. But 2000 points is small for HH. At 2500 and 3000 you should be fine.

All traitors have MkIV because Horus made sure of it.

All of them had it, but premier users of both include the Death Guard - who favour Mk III for toughness and ZM battles, and have a large destroyer contingent, who often used Mk IV (as in, the destroyer models use it) - and the Imperial Fists, whose preference for sieges and space gave them a lot of Mk III, while Mk IV is used for one of their Uniques.

Both legions were also pretty close to their respective seats of power, so could expect to be well-equipped with Mk IV

Furibundus Xenocide Dreadnought

A pattern used by the legions during the most savage xenocidal campaigns during the Great Crusade, it fell out of favor after such gruesome engagements and the pacification of several xeno species meant that its role was fulfilled, although many of them still lie dormant within the astartes destroyer companies only to be awakened so they may unleash their toxic brutality upon the unsuspecting foe.

The Reaping is also cool - rad, forts, heavy support and MTC are all pretty nice.

They're both nice, it's just whether you want to be unassaultable and comfy inna fort, or spoopy coming out of the 5++ mist and kill trees (which is kind of situational but might be neat)

The trick, I think, is to get your core - a bunch of termies and your basic dudes (Old Mort was all about the marine being the most important thing) sorted first, then decide what else you want, slowly expanding your collection so you can just pick either.

When you can have easily have two paragon blades in a standard squad it starts the outweigh the ability to give three characters perdition blades. >>50072785
DESU I'd just make a World Eaters Leviathan with Ursus Claws. Same rules as the Impaler on Khorne Blood Slaughterers, except 24" range and is 2 weapons (one for each fist). If both claws cause a penetrating hit on a vehicle or wound on a Monstrous Creature, the dreadnought drags it into base contact as if the dread charged, and is also able to make a shooting attack with both its heavy flamers. This flamer attack only hits the target of the claws. If only 1 claw causes a wound, the dread is unable to get its full strength/anchoring weight into the attack and the target is dragged 3D6" towards the dread. If they end up in base to base, they count as being in combat as if the dreadnought had charged, but no additional flamer attack may be made. Claw also counts as a DCCW, of course. No additional melee rules. Cannot be used against flyers, but may otherwise be snapshot.

Basically, 2 Heavy 1 S8 AP3 shots at 24". No inbuilt options like a DCCW. I figure it would be around 20-30 points, so at *least* as expensive as the Grav Flux Bombard and Cyclonic Melta Lance. Maybe just 20 since it takes up both arms, so you can't do, say, 1 Ursus Claw and a siege drill, or a claw and a lance, etc. Or maybe that should make it more expensive?

They swore an oath to protect the people of the Imperium, rather than be the Emperor's Executioners. Or something to that effect.

Basically, when they butted heads with the Inquisition, both were in the right, SW for upholding their contract to protect the people and Inquisition for their contract to protect the Imperium. So, since neither could really claim the other for acting beyond their Emperor given rights (or something), neither was technically wrong and it came a matter of exchanging punches (via cannons) to see who was the most right.

Or that's how I always understood it.

Tbh it's more of a tactical thing. People always use the hyberbole argument of the BAfag bringing 80+ assault cannons but an army like that would actually be pretty bad and inflexible.

In reality it's much more effective to use the assault cannons how they were "designed" to be used, sprinkled in on things throughout the army. I routinely run javelins with assault cannons instead of multi meltas and even before the red book buff they were a really solid cost effective unit. I give my levi titty cannons and my cortus iron man cannons. They're annoying but theyre comparable to what other legions can take.

This is all without mentioning how hard it would be to actually get enough assault cannons to make the fabled assault cannon spam list.

This cloaked marine is supposed to lend a stealthy vibe to the squad, though he will be only one of three models in the 10 man squad with a cloak and no armour on his arms.

I figured, some people model Worls Eaters with buff muscleman arms, I figured a couple low-key models here and there in a Seeker squad that have foregone vambraces wouldn't be untoward.

However, this was also to see how the choice of scout arms on a PA torso and legs would look like, because it is one of the ways I am considering modelling Pariah Armour for some Blackshields.

Other RG dude here.

MkIV with beaky helmet looks actually quite nice, but then again, that helmet is just sexy.
Shouldn't be too unfluffy either, just say it's an experimental model that led to MkVI, or a very early prototype.

I like the MkIV packs on beakies, but only give them to characters or special dudes, for the most part, I don't mind the 40k jump packs on MkVI armour, in fact, some older fluff states that the single turbine is actually newer in design than those. YMMV, as always.

My understanding of the Oaths of Moment were that they sort of like promises that the soldiers swore to their Primarch and the Emperor/the Warmaster before battle.

I'm imagining them to be things like "I solemnly swear to decapitate at least a dozen mooks in close quarters combat" and "I promise not to lose my bolt pistol again".

>I promise not to lose my bolt pistol again

>>
>>50079163
I like an odd purity seal here and there, they can provide much needed colour spots to an otherwise monotonous model, but yes, the pre-moulded ones are just shitty, even worse is that they all come in the same place. Makes converting MkVII legs into MkV/VI a nightmare. Even worse is that the old MkVI kneeling legs have one almost on the crotch that is very awkward to remove.

I recall that oaths of moment are like promises a marine swears to fulfill in battle, only used once and issued before combat. Purity seals, on the other hand, are more like awards of devotion to the emps, iirc.

With some cutting, they make great clasps for cloaks and the paper bits look good on WBs.

Though they probably would, I doubt it is a good idea to give techmarines and apothecaries the Nails. A techmarine for example probably goes berserk when a servitor or assistant doesn't handle a machine properly, butchering every servitor and serf he comes across with his arclight spanner gizmo.
Likewise you don't want an apothecary to enrage whilst performing surgery on a legionary because he smelled blood or something.

The standard ability is tied to eating flesh and drinking blood. That's why "flesh eaters" and "blood drinkers" were in the original RT lineup. It's also why there are so many blood letting/drinking rituals in various chapters, separate from the blood angels.

the brain bit is just fan memes

Well, honestly it's not a bad addition. Adds to how gross it is, and to those who don't know the lore it would be a smaller logic leap.

Sorry it's so shiny, it's an effect of using Tamiya Smoke. Not actually after feedback yet, still working out how to edge highlight this model in a way that won't make it look shit.
>>
I figured out what to name my counts-as preators for my Chapter size force.
Ship-Captains. Exactly, each one is also the captain of the ship they traverse the warp in, with the entire group of space marines and their appropriately shared equipment.

>>50079910
I like it looks good so far. The black isn't pasty, grey, or weak.
>>
>>50079910
Looks clean, nice. Since you have him headless, actually, do you have any spare beakie helmets you could stick on him? I've been dying to see what the primarch models would look like with helms.

>>50079937
You're doing space woofs, right? Don't they have established names for that rank?
>>
>>50079910
Looks rather nice, friend!
>>
>>50079951
More like Space goats.
I am using the paint scheme, and the eventual rules, but really doing my own thing with the fluff.
>>
>>50079951
And, the Space Yiffs whole thing is there really isn't an established way to go about things, aside from 13 great companies led by He-Man: Space Daddy issues edition.
>>
>>50079951
I have a shit ton of beakie helmets but none that are painted and free to stick on Raven Raven's body. I could put one on and take a photo for you if you want to see if the scale suits?

>>50079937
Dude, that's actually not a bad idea. It's original but not "Lord Storm-Praefector" or "Fangtenant", you know? Run with it.
>>
>>50079961
>really doing my own thing with the fluff
Explain

>>50079974
>Space Yiff's whole thing is that there really isn't an established way to go about things
Really? I thought their organization and method of warfare was pretty straightforward. That's the kind of thing you'd say about Alpha Legion, or Sons of Horus or something.
>>
>>50079984
Yeah, wouldn't mind. I'm just curious about the whole thing.

I kind of want to do a helmeted Vulkan or something.
>>
>>50079951

I honestly don't know if they have the same ranks as the 40K versions, where captains are Wolf Lords and Grimnar is the Great Wolf. May be different for 30K, I haven't read any BL or new FW material on them.
>>
>>50079984
I would love to see if the scale works.

>>50079993
>Point 1- my own thing
I want a 1,000 ish space marine force to fuck around with

600 standard bolter marines.
30x 20 man squads.

150 tactical support marines
30x 5 man squads

30 apothecaries
1x per tactical squad

75 heavy support marines
15x 5 man squads

75 terminators
15x 5 man squads

40x assault marines
2x 20 man squads

25 command marines
5x 5 man command squads

5 Preators

aside from the Assault marines, all of these are placed into five separate companies, or Ships (May even do Longships because fuck it, Vikings in SPAAAACE) consisting of

6x 20 man tactical squads, with one apothecary each
6x 5 man tactical support squads
these two units would often be assigned together- one tac squad, with a support squad in tow, acting as one 'Bolter platoon'

3x 5 man heavy support squads
3x 5 man Terminator squads
These units would only be deployed with two of the 'Bolter platoons' would also be deployed with them

There would be a command element only deployed when the entire Ship is deployed, with the 5 man command squad and the Ship-Captain.

The assault marines are JUST for the 'Veteran' Company, and would act both as a forward recon team, and as a divisive part of a pincer movement.

I USED to have the vehicles- light, heavy, air- all mapped out as well but I fucked up and deleted it. Been too lazy to go through that again.

>Point 2- No real organization.
Obviously there were basic organizations like tactical squads, but it was really up to the Wolf Lord of each great company how everything was organized.
>>
>>50080063
>5 Praetors
REEEEEEEEEEEEESEEEES PUFFFFS!

A Praetor is a Chapter Master equivalent. One! One! You get One! One!
>>
>>50080109
That's mostly for the rules and the weapons available.

>>50080063
Along with the Assault marines, LOW type vehicles would also only be for the Veteran company, and in general there would be very few vehicles in play for any company.

Sorry for the extreme contrast, my phone's camera isn't too crash hot by today's standards but hopefully you get an idea of what it looks like.

To my eye the helmet is a fraction too small.
>>
Alright /hhg/, I have my 3 boxes of BaC and 2 boxes of BoP to start building my IF army with. I have 60 mkIII and 90 mkIV marines to set up the base of the army like a Departmento Munitorum Expeditionary Fleet Logistician and I want you guys to help me with the finer details.

I've already set aside 40 mkIV marines to use as two tac blobs, at least 30 mkIII to use as breachers (are there any special weapons to consider making extra troops for? I was thinking 3 graviton, and 3 melta, but I can spare more to make flamers, etc.), 2 mkIV and 1 mkIII for apothecaries, and a dozen each for vet squads with various weapon loadouts to choose from.

I have 3 Contemptors (probably going to cannibalize one to give the other two more weapon choices, maybe turn it into a Mortis?), 15 Cataphractii and 10 Tartaros termies which I plan to magnetize, and I even picked up one of the cheesecake-eating Legion Heralds to convert into a Praetor or a Master of Signal/Siege Breaker.

I want to know what tanks I should consider picking up, as that's the only thing I don't really have any knowledge of, and if there's any additional units I can make with my ~50 marines that are left over. I want to try and be able to build 1850 for the 40K kids in my area, and 2500 or 3000 for actual games.
>>
>>50080134
It is a little too small, but in general it looks great on the model.

>>50080146
Sicarans. Cheap, Anti-air, and in general better than Preators. You want to keep them cheap in your army to take more than one, especially considering you will probably have an infantry heavy list to begin with making any armor a larger target than normal.
>>
>>50080169
>Preators
I meant predators.
>>
>>50080131
You really should be running them as centurions, m8.

And >>50080063 really doesn't sound like any kind of unique fluff, it's just a big bunch of dudes with idiosyncratic deployment doctrine.

>Obviously there were basic organizations like tactical squads, but it was really up to the Wolf Lord of each great company how everything was organized.
In the Horus Heresy, that's how everything was done.

>>50080146
What the fuck is up with people buying ludicrous amounts of plastic dudes lately. Christ. If you're running that many marines, you should look into a goddamned Mastodon or Thunderhawk. Failing that, you can't go wrong with a Spartan, and you should think about having some flyers, land raiders, and artillery support. Depends on the legion, really. And as >>50080169 said, Sicarans are always a good bet.

>>50080134
That doesn't look that bad, honestly. Bit small, but that's workable.
>>
>>50080204
People are buying large quantities because they just MIGHT need those marines and making special weapon squads with them.

I have a metric ton because I bought bunch on discount from people who realized that they don't have time to actually invest into 30k
>>
>>50080204
I am NOT going to field all of these.
I recognize this is way way wayyyy past ever being able to field all of them, so it doesn't really matter if 'preator' or 'centurion'
>>
>>50080256
B..but you said you were doing it for the rules and weapons available. If you're never going to field them and are just doing it for the fluff, why wouldn't you want to make it accurate?
>>

>>
>>50080285
A very strange, particular kind of autism.

>>
>>50080204
Two BaC boxes were bought over a span of 6 months while they were cheap (as they've actually climbed in price with the announcement of BoP), one BaC was sent to me free from GW as a mistake(I'm assuming from a mixup involving the order of the first one, I have not heard of any issues, haven't seen a charge on my card, and I'm not going to complain), one BoP was a birthday gift, and I pre-ordered the second one. I'm planning on selling the Custodes and SoS to pick up tanks or more mkIII, and then I won't have to fucking worry about looking for and paying out the ass for any specific Heresy armor when I decide to expand my army.

Considering I don't really spend cash on any other hobbies, I'm fine with it. Also got myself a 3D Printer, which I'm going to use to print Deimos pattern Rhinos and fuck around with Land Raider designs.

>>50080169
I'll definitely take a look at Sicarans. Any help with arty? I guess Rapiers are the popular choice for that. Might have to deal without while I get everything else set up.

>>50070807

Late reply but I say yes because
a) it's cool as fuck
b) power fist/axe doesn't let you use +1I in challenges
c) power sword/maul are for weak babies with AP3/4
d) it's the only weapon with AP2 at initiative, and if you're getting charged you were probably fucked anyway
