So I am curious what does /tg/ think about Palladium Games?
Eh.
>>50035017
Wow, I thought I had a different image attached to that.
>>50034929
The settings and ideas are great, the rules are a mess.
I really like the classic bnw art too.
>>50035054
I can agree with the classic BnW art being nice. It just seems weird as Palladium doesnt seem to have a following on /tg/
>>50034929
The only thing worse than the rules is the books' formatting.

this
>>50035349
well, we had occasional palladium threads going. there are a few who like it. but savage rifts has overshadowed this now.

As far as their games go, I've only really dealt with their Robotech books, but I've never actually played since the rules look so bad I'd doubt I'd be able to convince anyone to join. It looks like there's only one or two ways to actually make it fun, one of which is houseruling like hell, and the other is to either have everyone play the same class or have everyone carefully pick their skills so nobody gets left behind, since class balance is a fucking joke.
As a company, I don't have a very high opinion of them. I've been watching how the whole Robotech Tactics kickstarter fiasco has turned out, and I'd really rather not support companies who act like that. If I buy any Palladium stuff in the future, I'll make sure I buy it used.

They have about as much of a following here as they do IRL
>>50034929
I hope they go bankrupt so they have to sell their IP. Then someone competent can actually make something good from it.

>what is Savage Rifts
>>50037505
try TMNT, it's easy, fun and zany

Palladium Games is run by an unhinged egomaniac who occasionally has a great idea, but who also steals great ideas from other people without crediting them. He's also a pretty terrible businessman, can't publish a scheduled book on time to save his life, and treats a lot of his writers like shit.
So my opinion of PB and the guy who runs it is not good.
But I'm glad he actually had the sense to let the Savage Worlds guys make a version of Rifts with a decent rules system.
Rules aside, I'd love to do some madcap multi-dimensional surfing with wizards and mecha.

We have this thread almost every week if not every day. Other posters pretty much summed it up already; fun concept and setting, shitty rules and no class balance generally makes it a hot mess but it can be fun with the right group and the nostalgia factor is high for those of us that played it in school.
Personally I've found it works best to stick with one-off sessions or short (2-3 session) campaigns with all party members taken from the same world book. Balance is a little more consistent, and you get to try out a lot more OCC/RCCs than you would otherwise.

And yet still flawed in typically Palladium ways.

TMNT and other SDC systems are generally better than Rifts rules as most were written by Erick Wujcik, didn't have that MDC/Megadamage nonsense and were far better balanced.
