From Darkness
I cry for you
the tears
you shed for us
are the blood
of the Elven kind
O Isha
Here I stand
on the last shore
a sword in my hand
Ulthuan shall never fall
There is something comparable in the bricks of shitty fluff in the AoS books?
No there isn't. Warhammer fantasy went out of its way to build a Silmarillion level epic that guided the setting for many years. Though the archetypes of that epic eventually stagnated, the inspired writings of that era moved an entire generation of fantasy gamers.

I was a Chaos player. That poem alone, made me look at the swordmasters with awe and respect when my High Elf player friend deployed them.
5th edition book IIRC, before that turd of Thornton removed all the interesting rules from HE in 6th.

It's dead mate, just let it rest like the true Legend it was.

Totally agree bro.

Nothing that the current GW does will ever live up to what the old GW built that they are currently cashing in on. People need to stop supporting this company already, everything you loved about them is gone.

No disrespect for you chap but I played HE for 20 years and never once lost to chaos. They could just annihilate a chaos army. Their force/point ratio was just perfect to fight Chaos and their magic destroyed the dark powers.
But High Elves fighting Orcs and Goblins was a different matter entirely.

I think you may have the heart of the matter.
They could salvage the whole thing if the open source their old editions.

Especially open sourcing 2nd ed 40K and Necromunda.

That 5th edition book made a sublimely balanced army that could defeat about anyone. Silverhelm core took small fast unit tactics to a whole new level. And Sea Guard were the best defencive troops in the game. You could run a whole army with core and only want for bolt throwers. Most people did in fact because they had all the old plastic Spearmen lying around from the 3rd Ed starter box. And frankly stoic lines of identical spearmen didn't feel out of place with a hyper disciplined army like High Elves.
