Will they ever can Age of Smegmar, lads? Why didn't they just make a new ruleset and kept the settings, make it a skirmish game but keep it in the Old World? It is the perfect fantasy setting, taking the most comfy elements of the genre and blending it with the best historical periods

It's doubtful, they're in this boat and working around the clock to make it a viable brand. Ask any smegtard and they'll state the usual "It's selling much better than Fantasy was in it's last days".
Now, whether this is true or not(or completely related to people getting models for 9th age or buying stuff because it's becoming rarer and they want to get it before it's gone.), GW most likely believes the same thing. However, GW's pretty aware of the botched start it got with AOS, and since getting new management, you can at least tell that they're trying to make it good, which is evident with the re-introduction of points in the generals handbook.

The main problem is that GW is more likely to do what will make a profit than do something just because of a brand's legacy. Given the choice between rushing to fix the disaster that was AOS's launch, and completely re-launching a game they killed off, they're gonna choose the former simply because they're already on that boat.

But, between the announcement of recasting OOP kits and relaunching specialist games, at the very least, maybe we'll get some support for the old universe. (In the case that they remake Mordheim and base it on the old setting for example.)

So I've got this WFRP campaign I'm writing and I want to include a prophecy for my players to muddle over. Tell me what you think.

>>When the Veil closes and the Great Eye sleeps
>>And ancient dragons retire to the lightless deeps
>>Three will rise to bestow plague and pain
>>As the farmer sows before the rain
>>Sun of pox and Moon of blight
>>Despite the tearful Maiden’s light
>>No hope for Man, only endless night
>>Three will rise and rule as one
>>The Sins of the Father
>>Sins of the Son

>>-Grand Theooginist Bardurak II, dead by his own hand after scrawling this message upon his chamber walls

The campaign will take place in Nordland, the idea being to root out a Nurgle cult. I've decided to get back to basics after a few mixed bag campaigns.

Anyone have a complete scan of 6ed rules? All of the ones I've found are missing the skirmish rules. Or if you just have the skirmish rules... (not the booklet that refers you to the 6ed rules). Thanks!

Alright, so Karl Franz's massive griffon is named Deathclaw, right? That's a pretty cool name, fitting for a gigantic bird-tiger hybrid.

But Karl raised Deathclaw from an egg. So at some point, there was this little baby griffon the size of a cat running around the palace, following its daddy everywhere, sleeping at the foot of the Emperor's bed, tearing up all the sheets and curtains and vases and rugs and small children in the palace.

And that cute little kit-chick's name was Deathclaw.

FUCKING. ADORABLE.

Cool battle scenerios? Things to kind of spice things up so it isn't just two lines.

Our group consist of 3 players including myself. I play skaven, then we have a dark elf player and wood elf. I was thinking a sort of "attack the strong hold" thing where the elves put aside differences and attack a huge skaven strong hold that has been looming. Not sure how to divide up points. The defender would get more obviously. But not sure how to make the seige as dramatic without making it over powered. Is there a reference to this type of battle?

Anyone have any other table top battles/scenerio/ themed campaign they have that they liked?

So seeing as the North is like a giant eugenics playground with extra magic Chaos appendages and fickle twists of wyrd, how strong is the average northern tribesman, both Norscan and not-turko-mongol steppe-rider compared to the average Imperial soldier?

If the Imperials have to live in conditions outside of urban towns where they're constantly under attack by beastmen, wouldn't they be pretty damn strong and survivalist too? Or does the Nomadic and tribal lifestyle of not-Scandinavia and not-Central Asia just breed better Men?

How can Imperial boys even compete?
>>
>>49917230
A Norscan is not really stronger than the average Imperial.

They are, however mouch more vicious and stubborn, making them appear stronger out of sheer ferocity.
If anything, they're probably more resilient than the average Imperial, but they are still human to the core and make up to the lack of proper discipline with bloodlust
>>
>T9A releases 1.2 previews
>everything is stupid videos so to read stuff I gotta scour forum posts

is it so hard to just write stuff down?
>>
>>49917230
Norscans are individually pretty strong and tough, but also relatively few in number due to harsh, unlivable conditions and constant infighting. (See high army point costs) The Empire, on the other hand, has a LOT of people living across a LOT of land. Many of those people, of course, become pretty badass themselves due to better nutrition, training, and equipment. Consider that the average man in real life today is taller and healthier than the average man a couple hundred years ago - having ample food and little disease during the formative years is just as helpful as being raised in a tough environment, plus less likely to kill you.

>>
>>49910097
Nah fuck off with that.

Age Of Sigmar is a far more original setting than WHFB. Having everything be this abstract high fantasy where the inspiration comes more from the mythological feel rather than its cliches is actually fresh.

We say that these new models lack subtlety (Archaon) or they are lazy (Fyreslayers.) None of you guys complained how ridiculous and out of place the horns on Archaon's head and his horse were, instead choosing to ignore those for his clothes which aren't overthetop. None of you guys complained about the old Slayers models which are infinitely worse than the Fyreslayers ones. You're willing to give love to the Green Knight model's technical achievement but not the new Nagash, Archaon, or Glotkin models which took that level of technique to the next level.

You guys complain about how shit AoS' rules are. Do you guys remember 8e Beastmen? Tomb Kings? Or really any faction that wasn't elves or Chaos? Fucking awful display of balance and neglect.

You guys complain about the RPG Skirmish style AoS is, yet loved those heroes that were far more customizable than their 40k counterparts. Also the faux elitism towards the game "not being closer to a real war game and is now skirmish stuff" is even dumber because if you truly cared about that level of "real war gaming" you wouldn't be playing Warhammer to begin with. Not to mention that AoS encourages synergy through a larger variety of rules than WHFB ever did.

>>
>>49924733
Points for what? To refute your opinions? Don't expect to come into the WHFB General and 'enlighten' everyone that what they like is shit and what you like is great. There's honestly no point because no matter what I, or the rest of the thread, says, you won't be convinced that your opinion is wrong.

Maybe you just have autism, if so I can't really blame you for your behaviour. And if 'accusations' bothers you, then maybe 4chan isn't the site for you.

>"but it's 4chan anon it's all shitposting baby!"
Idk bruh, here I am presenting points, yet the person acting like an autistic idiot here is you.
>>
>>49924871
Again, these are opinions. It isn't controversial, just stupid. You replied to a post that suggested making a skirmish game that didn't require killing Warhammer and went nuts on him. You can't disguise your own shitposting by saying everyone else is a shitposter.
>>
>>49924967
But I gave exactly the reasons why WHFB had to be killed.

>the state of these WHFB fanboys right now
>>
>>49925057
But you didn't? Half of your post was about the state of models, the WHFB ones being nearly fifteen years old at this point. Some were advanced for their time like the Green Knight. I'm not saying that Archaon, Nagash and the Glotkin aren't well made, I just think they're overly huge and way too busy. There's such thing as restraint.

The other half is about rules which is even more subjective than aesthetics as what's 'fair' can never be decided on. The power creep of late 7th and 8th editions was a bad thing, yes, but that doesn't contribute to the death of Warhammer.

The real reason was price and the inability for new players to get into the game. Back when I started I could afford to save up money to buy a box of guys and put them together. Sure I might not be able to paint them but that didn't matter back then. Now prices are just absurd for the amount of models you get. A company can't raise prices, lower the models they give you and then blame the game for failing when they're rigging it so that old players can't or won't update their armies and new players can't get in.

In short, stop treating your opinions as fact and stop being so sensitive when it comes to someone disagreeing with you. I think AoS looks like hot garbage, the models are either lazy (Fyreslayers) or have so much shit piled on them (Chaos). The lore is a joke and it's clear that GW just doesn't give a fuck anymore. BUT I don't go into AoS general and try to redpill people there by saying the game they (might) actually like is shit and call everyone who disagrees with me a shitposter.
>>
>>49925277
>I just think they're overly huge and way too busy
>way too busy
>Likes the Green Knight model
>overly huge
>likes the old Giant model probably, too like every WHFB fanboy

>rules which is even more subjective
>objective balancing based on numbers is subjective now

> but that doesn't contribute to the death of Warhammer
>neglecting over half the playable factions didn't lead to the death of Warhammer apparently

>The real reason was price
If this was true then 40k would've been down in the shits, too. Pricing is not only a Fantasy/AoS problem, but across GW in general. The real REAL reason is sales, which despite the incomplete nature of AoS right now has been achieving its goals.

>understand corporate dosnt want it anymore, pretty much fan run now
>come into whfb with questions, love reading the lore, just seeing people talk about it and just finding out more about the hobby
>Divulged into sigmar shit flinging

I picked WHFB (possibly 9th later when I can grasp all the nuances) because I didnt like the way AoS was run. I dont really care its not being run by GW now, I can just make my own plot lines. I'm not sure why people want to tell me to jump ship, like the pdf's, ect. will disappear from my hard drive.
>>
>>49925535
>>likes the old Giant model probably, too like every WHFB fanboy
Sure it was a bitch to put together but I liked the look of it. The new giant looks good too, but I don't have a preference for one over the other.

>>objective balancing based on numbers is subjective now
Yes, it is. Players may disagree that Rule X makes sense or not, or that Unit Y is either too good for its points value or underpowered for what it can do. This can depend heavily on what army said players use.

>>40k would've been down in the shits
I can't speak for 40k as I never played it. I don't know where you get your sources from but I never see anyone play AoS and I've been to three different GW stores lately. It also doesn't help that WHFB models are now considered under the AoS brand as a lot of players, myself included, would like to get certain boxes before they go out of production. I can't say how many 'AoS' sales are actually old Warhammer kits being bought before they get canned, like all the Bretonnia and Tomb Kings lines.
>>

I'm irritated that they gave army books to people who don't care about the army.

With beastmen I'm extreemly dissatisfied with the shamen. My bad ass lord level shammy is gone.

I'm really not sure why they felt the game needed more granularity. It felt fine at the previous scale. Its possible my displeasure stems from my army, where things could have been made cheaper, like bestigor, but they just straight doubled.
>>
>>49910074
I'm going to the only GW in my state, about a 20 min drive, to get the card. And when the redshirt asks me what else I'm interested in, I will tell him that since GW killed Fantasy I only buy recasts. It's not the redshirt's doing, GW will never hear of it, and it's a petty autistic thing to say, but it will also be cathartic.
>>
>>49912600
What are the details? Personally I'm unaware of any other similar prophecies in the lore, and I dislike both rhyming prophecy structures and inventing/killing a major background character influential to the entire setting just for a campaign, but the latter two issues just involve my own taste

I'm a never-DM and I've just convinced a few friends of mine (including our Always-DM) to try out WFRP 2e. I've got three folks so far, possibly more, depending on who else in my group is open to it. I'll be DMing, as the only person who's a Warhammer fan.

So, I need some advice, both just from a "I have never DM'd before" standpoint and a "DMing for WFRP specifics" standpoint. Luckily, my group mostly plays CoC, so percentile die are not an issue.

I am thinking I should do an adventure which could be a One Shot, because unless this goes successfully (which it probably won't, given my experience), I don't want everyone to feel like they barely got anything done in addition to having a session with a shitty DM.

However, at the same time, I'd like to do something which could lead into something more, if there is miraculous success, and to best help me along, I'm gonna be using one of the modules as opposed to trying to come up with something myself.

Right now, I'm leaning towards running the Enemy Within, the first branch of 1e's pre-eminent campaign. It's simple enough, suitably railroady, but still has some combat and mystery to it. There's a site where I can grab 2e versions of all the 1e stats from Enemy Within. Anybody think this is a bad idea?

Also, any general tips for DMing WFRP?
>>
>>49927210
Three men from a noble family form the head of a cult of Nurgle. During the Storm of Chaos, their home was one of the only places not attacked in any way, which is strange considering that Nordland was on the front lines. The noble family in question are the Von Neurath's, vassals to Elector Count Theodoric Gausser.

I like campaigns that matter, but not to the point where it changes the whole of the Empire or the Old World. Another thing I like is a prophecy that isn't completely accurate. It may say one thing or another, but it was just a vision that was interpreted by some guy. He could very well have gotten the details wrong, just like anyone who reads it. I mostly want my players to read it and argue over what it means, which in turn makes them second guess some of their decisions.

>>49927380
I'd suggest writing your own adventure. Even if it's a simple romp you can alter it depending on what your players do. Personally I like letting things evolve naturally. I write a campaign and then depending on how it goes, I can add more details or plot hooks.

For example, my first campaign ever was investigating a cult in Rottfurt with the help of a Witch Hunter. They were mining warpstone in an old iron mine and the magical energy in there animated dead miners to continue their work. I later expanded on this by adding in a Vampire Lord who was using the cult to mine warpstone for him.

When you get a bit more experienced then I would say it'd be better to attempt a campaign like the Enemy Within. But I'm biased against using other peoples things like that, so I never use modules.

>Is there a more Cucked race than dwarfs?
High Elves in ET:Khaine.

King got Cucked, race got Cucked out of leadership by Dark Elves and Wood Elves, got Cucked out of the homeland by Teclis and Lileath, heroes all got Cucked out of their personal stories, and in the end got Cucked out of any kind of resolution because Malekith did all of the talking in the end.

At least in AoS they got to Cuck Slaanesh into being less relevant than Tzeentch and the greenskins.

>>
Does anybody ITT have experience with Warmaster?

15mm or 6mm is a better scale for WHFB if I'm being honest.
>>
>>49927954
Larger doesn't always mean stronger. Look at the dwarfs
>>
>>49925831
I don't understand it either. I mean i've nothing against AoS and those who play it.
I'm contrarian to the fact that WFB needed to be killed to make space for AoS when the two games can coexist without any problem.

I think its kind of a mix of not understanding why we loved the setting so much (they probably didn't like it from the start) and out of bitterness from some kind of percieved slight they feel we didn to them.

This is probably how Christians felt when the pagans refused to convert. Good thing is they can't really force us to like AoS
>>
>>49930412
it's true though

WHFB literally had not-Egypt, not-King Arthur, not-Japan (called fucking Nippon, which is just Japan), it was the laziest shit ever
>>
Y'know what.

I don't want GW to recreate WFB. Not without major changes. The setting, now that they completely spoilt it, has suffered a demistification it cannot recover from. We'd already know everything of every character, who would win against who, what would happen first.

To me, If they really want to recreate the setting, they should probably take it back to SoC ad start from there.

Speaking of WFB lore, it is heavily implied that something sinister happened to Balthasar Gelt in his early career, but this point seems to be ignored in recent editions (much like everything else)

Would it be a stretch to believe that Gelt was a Chaos servant all along, who exchanged servitude to Tzzeentch for power?
Otherwise i can't think how a simple alchemiost could've beaten the strongest bright wizard that ever lived in single combat
>>
>>49930819

>>
>>49930798
And like a good AoS fanboy you had to rush in and set the record straight, that we're wrong and you're right? Get fucked.

>>49930819
If I recall correctly, you might be speaking of the accident (or was it?) that nearly killed him, forcing him to wear a mask for the rest of his life. The contest was to get to the Staff of Volans, rather than simply blow each other away. Gorman tried to prevent him from grabbing the staff but Gelt was able to protect himself from the flames erected around it. Power may be debatable, but he was clever.
>>
>>49930819
The duel is a story in the 6ed empire book. Gelt basically tanks everything Gormman throws at him. He then subtly weaves a transmutation spell through the fire beam hitting his shield, which is possible because of some magical properties of metal and fire. Gormman is turned almost entirely to gold, and gelt turns himself into living metal to reach through the near impenetrable Firewall that was guarding the staff of Volans. Gelt won through his vast magical knowledge rather than brute strength, he was on defense pretty much the whole time
>>
>>49930848
Literally laughing here. I wasn't the anon who replied to the first posts. Heck, I didn't even engage in that post chain at all. I am just saying if you want to start a discussion don't be surprised when views you disagree with pop up. You are not in an echo chamber or a safe place.

If you say so. The first guy in the chain brought up a simple question, wondering why a game couldn't have been made without trashing WHFB. Then an AoS faggot jumps on him like they always do. Again, get fucked. This isn't about safe places, it's about not being a fucking turd just to stir up shit. But then again I doubt you'd be able to handle that.

And continuing with being a toddler you apparently have a problem with reading. Lines like this "Will they ever can Age of Smegmar, lads?" obviously are meant to stir shit and lead to a discussion about AoS and WHFB where opposing views will meet. So you are shit stirrer. You wanted this. If I am a bit paranoid perhaps it has done intentionally to bring traffic to this thread.

>>
>>49930979
Not really, no. You can tell who is who in these threads by how they answer questions. Most people who belong here will say that AoS and WHFB could have existed at the same time, or another skirmish game could have been made without sacrificing someone else. The AoS shitposters, on the other hand, immediately jump down peoples throats or start trying to convince the thread to abandon ship.

The simple thing here is either contribute without being a shithead or go back to AoS General.

No, I'd just like to come here and discuss Warhammer without having to deal with some idiot bringing in other fandoms. We have Generals for a reason. I'm fine with someone disagreeing with me, I've written stuff here that people have said were shit because they have a different perspective on the Warhammer universe.

If I were to go into the AoS thread, say everyone should go back to WHFB and shit on what they like, then yes I'd be a shitposter. But I don't do that. AoS fanboys do that with all the fervour of a kid in a console wars argument.

tell me about naval combat in Warhammer

I know in the ancient days there was that Man-o-war game. Was it good? Are there still rules anywhere? Was it good for conversions?

I know Dreadfleet was supposed to be its successor, but wasn't much popular.

And has anyone used naval rules from 6th Ed. General's Handbook?
>>
>>49931020
These fan made careers seem a bit OP but it can be worked out, i guess.

>>49931103
Naval combat isn't much of a great part of Warhammer since 99% of things happen in the Old World and everything can be reached by land.

Norscan use boats to raid and explore, and Elves are generally considered masters of the sea because they live on fucking islands.

Man-o-war i don't know, but there is a videogame version of it coming up. As far as i know it's pretty fun.
>>
>>49930694
At least it had cool dwarves and totally-not-the-HRE. Meanwhile AoS has Fantasy-races-but-with-retarded-names and Space Marines.

Never got into Man-o-war, rules should be online, the few models it had were on a different scale to WHFB so don't know how good they are for conversions outside WHFB

There's the videogame, but it's more of a RPG than it's faithful to the tabletop

>>
>>49930694
Yes, and it was the first fantasy setting to do all of those things.

It also invented green orcs, Mexican lizard people, and an eternal war between High/Dark Elves. All of which everyone else copied.

AoS didn't invent a single thing. It just mixed 40k, Marvel comics, and WoW with Fantasy. Hell, you still have the exact same not-Germans and probably not-Egypt too.

>>
>>49934917
Not really. 40k, when it boils down to it, started off with the general aesthetic of a heavy metal album cover. It grew more gothic, but that's still there. It isn't a parody, but there's an inherent tongue in cheek understanding in heavy metal music. A lot of the imagery and over the top flair is understood to be showmanship.

Link related. There are actual Epic 40k models that appear to be based on that thing.

AoS isn't necessarily a bad setting - I'm sure a lot of people actually enjoy the Ragnarok-esque mythic theme going on, and even the over-the-top writing sprinkled with far too many unique words.

But that doesn't excuse the fact that there's barely anything to the rules and setting, and that's actually GW's plan. Instead of putting out a new, fully-fleshed out setting, they're intentionally leaving it vague and somewhat half-finished and proudly crowing that it'll be something that'll be continually changing and updating. On their railroads, of course.
>>
>>49935139
Good point. I was kind of thinking of OnG lore with that one.
>>
>>49935321
The appeal of Warhammer, to me, was that it was centered around the Empire and their gritty early modern German feel. The Empire is what defined what Warhammer was and was about, even though I've always been a Skaven player.

AoS isn't a renaissance setting, so it is completely uninteresting.
>>
>>49935321
I dont really have an issue with CAD models, they are kind of cool, visually maybe a little busy. Fun to paint.

Regarding AoS propper, I thought it was a weird choice to launch a new setting, then release basically nothing but terrain for like 6 months.
>>
>>49935349
That's my problem with it. I think of a wargame or skirmish game, I need to feel their world to give a fuck about the rest of it.

I can picture Tiranoc, Averland, Lybaras, and a greenskin tribe scrabbling in the Badlands. I can find a book where you spend time in each of those on a ground view, and find them on a map.

AoS is extremely vague on civilian life, history, and locale. I don't care about the military if I don't know why and who and where they attack/defend, and who/what they come home to.

I know some people just like models and don't need much but rules, but I don't play games like that because I enjoy playing them. I play because I want to slip into that world for a time. I don't buy Alarielle because she looks cool or has great stats, I buy one because I want the character Alarielle who's queen of the High Elves and burns Chaos with a touch and has a romance with Tyrion who she has to balance duty and romance for. Otherwise I'd just buy a generic Reaper mini for a fraction of the cost, or just not play High Elves. Or at all.

I mean, I don't like a single AoS character. Look at the Celestant Prime. He was a king, hates Chaos, has an expensive and interesting model. But I don't care because this isn't a character who returns to his people, struggles with his faith, loves anyone as more than a BATTLEBROTHER, has a rivalry, has a promise to keep, an oath to a family member, or anything. He's a former king, hates Chaos. That's it.
I'm not going to buy him if he doesn't interest me. I'd but a regular Sigmarine, give him a greenstuff cloak and buy some swirly buts off eBay from Nagash or a Mortarch and make one. More importantly, I wouldn't buy Stormcasts because I just don't care. They aren't funny, aren't complex, and I don't find them charming or relatable.

That's an AoS wide problem.
>>
>>49935321
That pic is retarded, and i remember when it was first posted and the guy got BTFO for it. None of what is mentioned in the top half is particularly unique or interesting. You could easily make AoS seem interesting by just throwing up random plot bits

another anon must reply what a few of it's units, at least one generic character and at least one monster/warmachine/whatever would be called, what lores of magic it could use and what would be army's shtick. descriptions optional.

said anon then posts his own army name/description/picture and so it goes.
let's start with... Stone Elves
>>
>>49948546
>implying Warhammer needs more fucking elves of all things

During Ulthuan's sundering, lots of elves got trapped underground, renounced the elven pantheon and got cursed for it, eventually turning them into stone statues, they eventually adopted a tribalistic lifestyle and considered their curse as a blessing of sorts, instead of waystones, their souls are bound to stone golems

Since they are in the Old World, no contact with other races outside skaven or other elves

High salt priest (Lord, access to lores of metal, fire, shadow and dark magic)
Deep lord (Lord, with anime-tier crystal structures growing from his back)

Untouched (normal elves, with ASF, no GW option)
Stone elves (T4, generic units of the army, stone growing from parts of their body)
Stonehearts (Natural stone armor, crystals growing in some places)
-options for great weapons, spears, HW&Shield and throwing weapons
-Stonehearts and stone elves can get "cursed boulders" which work like night gobbo fanatics

Deep creepers (Swarms)
Golems (Monstruous infantry)
Giant slug/Deep slug (Slow, regenerating, poisonous monster w/handlers)

Ballista which shoots stone shards?
Magic earthquake generator?
Generic rock thrower?

For the next army (>implying anybody will follow this):
Ancient rome

Guy running his first Warhammer Fantasy RP campaign here. I'm gonna use the Enemy Within's first adventure as a possible one-shot just because it's easy but also not TOO lethal, and gives a sense of the Empire, urban and rural. Also, Shadows over Bogenhafen is fun and can be used if the players have fun.

One of the players and I have created the first character. He wanted to be a fast-talking and stealthy type, and he lucked out by rolling Entertainer/Vagabond. He went Vagabond, and now I've got an "Underworld" type.

Should I encourage my other players to take on Sailor/Fighter/Magic rolls, now?
>>
>>49953010
Yeah, it's kind of weird considering how important and interactive the gods were to ancient Egyptian society. Would have been a neat development if WHFB continued.
>>
>>49953010
I'm not certain what Nehekaran society was like, but maybe it was because they placed a lot more importance on religion than the people of the Empire? The overall pantheon was incorporated into the state, where in the Empire only one part of the pantheon could really be considered a state church, and it's not as important as the secular powers.

Maybe he waits for the enemy to comment on the shitty proportions of his kit and while they're rageposting he quietly dismounts. It'd probably work on me desu

Roster is filling out pretty good so far. Third column + Chaos and Beastmen are DLC. Fourth column is FLC.

During the time of the living tomb kings the Nehekaran gods couldn't directly intervene but they were still strong enough to create their own version of chaos warriors, and send their own "daemons" in the mortal world. I think it was nagash himself who destroyed the covenant between the humans and the gods.

Grimgor- best current black orc Warboss and one of the best duelists in the setting
Skarsnik-night goblin boss with giant squig as pet, most cunning goblin alive and constantly at war with Belegar and the skaven
Wurrzahg-most powerful orc shaman around
Azhag- orc Warboss with nagash crown and a wyvren mount

Not yet in game

Gitilla da huntah- best goblin wolf rider boss, famous for both his prowess and knack for leaving the battle as soon as things go south

snagla grobspit- goblin boss on giant spider mount who leads spider cavalry, hates the empire

Morglum necksnapper- black orc Warboss arguably second behind grimgor. Best known for BTFOing a bretonnian army and ending the failed crusade to wipe out the Greenskins

Depends on your style. Do you like the idea of getting into close combat? If so, infantry or cavalry? Do you want a small but skilled army, or a big but expendable one? It all comes down to taste.
>>
When are we getting the next edition? Age of Sigmar seems like a joke.

I'm looking to jump in and play Beastmen. If that's not possible, then Chaos Daemons.

I've got serious cash coming, so I can afford to start this hobby.
>>
>>49964579
Never, unfortunately
>>
>>49964579
You'll have to do with fan editions, or find a group and house rule your own. GW will stubbornly cling to their decisions, so unless something huge happens I doubt they'll make a 9th edition. Hell will freeze over, and the Maple Leafs will win the playoffs, before they listen to their customers.
>>
>>49964603
>>49964615
Is 40,000 a safe bet, or will they fuck that up too?
>>
>>49964627
For the moment, but if GW could make the game Marines and Chaos only then I suspect they would. You'd probably be better off asking in the 40k General as to the state of the game.
>>
>>49964627
there's a lot of rumours about 40k getting fucked up too, and the releases are moving that way (i.e. bombing of Fenris, Primarchs returning, etc)

your best be would be T9A or KoW or something else.
>>
>>49963957
Oh I hate zombies for sure, but at that point cost I can expend hundreds of them to clear the way for the "cool undead," my Vampire and Wight King.
>>
>king is Wight
>knights are Black

name one model in current range that is better than Krell.
you can't.
>>
>>49963961
Okayyy....

...where can I find a good WHFB homebrew/fan-made ruleset/army book for them? Cause they're clearly only in AoS, last I checked.
>>
>>49964941
sorry, what was a troll reply. the fact you took it as an honest advice made me feel bad and reconsider.

on a serious note, Ogres are famed for being one of the cheapest armies, with lowest model count, and pretty versatile, powerful and simple in use

if you don't plan to T9A, you can also try Dwarfs - start with simple (but boooooring) gunline and after that move in some more manly direction (e.g. hammerer horde or soemthing)
>>
>>49964844
gas the ghouls race war now
>>
>>49964844
Imagine WHFB all fit inside something like Ankh-Morpork

>Imperials are regular citizens
>Bretonni are nobles
>Orcs and goblins are random thugs
>Skaven are slum rat hobos
>Chaos are local nazis, holding a few districs
>Vampires are a full-blown mafia, with fabulous dons and lowly zombie and ghoul thugs
>Lizardmen just live in the river and sewers and most of the populace just think them a myth. naturally, fight with skaven all the time
>Dwarfs are regular Ankh-Morpork dwarfs

have no idea what role would others have. elves just don't fit.

Gorfang Rotgut, an Orc who took one of the main Dwarf Holds, crucified the prince on the throne and kept him alive, threw the civilians of the Hold into the dungeons as living trophies, and does nothing but sit on his ass and get fat. Answers to Skarsnik despite being a Warboss, and provides Skarsnik with Orcs.

>>49964905
The ordinary Wight King does it more for me.
>>
>>49964101
>Love the Bretonnians
>Hate that their infantry is useless
>At the same time, don't really enjoy infantry-heavy armies like Dwarves or the Empire

It's a weird sort of feel.
>>
>>49969675
High Elves. Useful infantry and cavalry.
>>
>>49967628

you know you can get bases super cheap off chinks on ebay
>>
>>49970994
Or Reaper. Base Boss, huge expanded range.
>>
>>49969767

Same for DE and WoC. And Ogres ofc, if you count monstrous things.
>>
So as someone who just started with 40k and has little interest in AoS, are the rule/army books for fantasy easy to come by? I've gotten interested in the old world lore and maybe even the game if i could get a group for it.
As well, is there any consensus here of a best edition of fantasy?
>>
>>49972263
if you looked at the OP you'd see most of the recent books are in there in PDF
You can get physical copies off ebay or retailers still
Some people say 6th is the best, others like 8th or T9A
>>
>>49969675
Bretonnian infantry is far from useless. Sure, they're not glamorous, but they were definitely worth their points when the 6th edition book came out. And if you let them they'll surprise you. I've seen my Men at Arms take a charge by Saurus Cavalry, hold and break them, charge a Salamander team, kill them and overrun into a block of Saurus and held them long enough for my knights to flank them.

And if they die, it's only a hundred points or so anyway.
