2k point list, r8?

Also, Knight kit advice? Thermal cannon seems awesome, but the battle cannon will chew groups better and a melta+avenger+icarus should wreck armor anyway, right?

Also, name for this force/a better name for the knight? Oromis sounds pretty cool but I feel like I could do better.

Trying to use the Death Masque harlequins in a killteam thing. Is this a terrible idea? Just a set of clowns costs 95 points!

No. Instead buy Heavy Artillery Carriages. They are one of the best Artillery in the game.

So many Imperium fuckers are going to buy this for the Custodes, the Sisters, the Mk III armor and the Tartaros termies.

About to start buying my army in earnest so I haven't committed to anything really. Thought abut switching from SM to Skit since that way I can still field a Knight in 2k games.

They're cool as balls, anon. Some of the best models available, solid but not OP rules (not counting War Convocation), with a fun and interesting playstyle. Highly recommend if your local meta is mid-tier.

I'm thinking about the same thing. I'd like to use them for HH, but I stopped tracking when Inferno comes out. Some time next year I assume. Although if plastic rubrics look good I might just get those.

I've always wanted Thousand Sons as an ally force, but the Thousand Sons as troops with MoT Sorcerer only works on the primary detachment. So the new TS book will hopefully change that or add some small formations.

Traitors Hate, a campaign with CSM vs BA, just dropped some new formations, which are pretty skub, but better than the BL or CS supplements. It's got a decurion-style detachment too.

Codex: Thousand Sons is coming soon with Daemon Magnus. Rumor is CSM will be getting more codices similar to how SW, DA, BA, GK, and DW all have their own books, and Mortarion and Angron will get Daemon Primarch models too.

Keep an eye on it. CSM might become fun again if/when 8th drops.

Okay, I'm glad they are confirmed in 40k, but come the fuck on. Why does Vanilla get Burning Blade and Gorgon's Chains, or SW get Black Death and that Frost Sword thing or the Terminator Armour (in fluff) which allows you to ride a TW.

I mean, I agree, but they're suppose to be Elite units. Both of them. Why the fuck don't they have grenades?

Can any super oldfags give me some help with 40k: Rogue Trader 1E?

Mainly, does opting to Run Away when charged prevent a model from moving in its next turn? I can't find anything that suggest it does except the mention that TURNING doesn't affect its next move, which might be implying that running does. Other than that though, literally nothing suggests it, and extra movements are actually fairly common in RT.

However, if Running Away doesn't affect its next move, I can't see a reason to ever not run. Light armor models will always be faster than the heavily armored behemoths chasing them, so not only do you always escape, you can then just turn around and shoot the guy in your turn and run away again in his. There's no way to guarantee a close combat. Even you start 1/8 an inch from the model, he has the ability to run away when charging.

Or am I just looking at this wrong, and this is just a classic example of how essential Movement Speed was as a stat for melee models? Cause a human in mesh armor is only M3.5, while a freaking genestealer is M6. That's a 12" charge against 7" Run Away, so it's easy to catch up (and force a rout). Also, Jump Packs are a mighty 18" in movement or charge, so I guess they can melee easily.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Can an Inquisitor without a jump pack ever reach melee if their opponent doesn't want it?
>>
>>49898396
>Why the fuck don't they have grenades?
grenades are for the soldiers, not the trophy wives
>>
>>49898391
Your Optimized Stealth Cadre's Wall of Mirrors will turn the entire enemy vehicle support to scrap regardless of any careful maneuvering, strategy, cover, or listbuilding they perform. Then your riptides will waste whatever infantry remains with minimal loss of models in return.

The key words here are "Regardless of strategy". Special rules and powerful units are one thing, but stripping the enemy player of meaningful agency makes the game a boring slog.
>>
Are all armor marks compatible with each other in canon? Like can you just mix and match if you want? This picture implies yes but I've heard otherwise elsewhere.
>>
>>49898511
mixing mark III and mark IV is only possible with the extreme ability of the Iron Hand's best guys according to the Horus Heresy. Mark III isn't compatible with anything otherwise
>>
>>49898415
I figured that's a vital rule due to this armies lack of high strength low ap. With the exception of fusion on the ghostkeel everything else is more anti MEQ

>>49898491
I don't have any riptides, unless you meant the crisis suits. I specifically didn't include riptides for two reasons, 1) keep cost down 2) it seems unanimous that riptides in sub 1500 (and sometimes up to 1850) point games are cancer

But in defense of the crisis suits, they aren't impossible to kill. A single krak middle could bring one down right?
>>
50 points per Golden Boy seems like a lot.
>>
>>49898549
You know that's an incorrect and trollish statement, Anon.
>>
>>49898438
>Mainly, does opting to Run Away when charged prevent a model from moving in its next turn?
not that I can tell

Do remember that (depending on orientation) you have to sacrifice an additional half-inch from your movement to run away from a charge. Turning more than 90 degrees isn't free

More importantly, it's an easy way to knock units out of formation (because their fleeing movement is entirely predictable and manipulable) and potentially out of the game for an entire turn.
>>
>>49898549

>>49898511
MkII and MkIII are compatible because they are the same armor mark. MkIII just has reinforced plating.

MkIV and V are compatible because V is Chinese IV.

MkVI and VII are compatible hecause VII was designed as a somewhat improved VI but with weaker sensors in exchange for armor.

VII and VIII are compatible because VIII is up-armored VII.
>>
>>49898541
God dammit! I meant Crises Suits. This whole Debacle with the riptide meme's gotten me confused about which suit is which...AGAIN! But Crises Suits are still VERY powerful even by the standards of elites. And sure, a single krak missile COULD kill one. A single lascannon could kill a Leman Russ, too. All you need to do is roll a 4+, then a 6, then another 6. Thats assuming its not in an Emp's fist, though, in which case you need a 4+, 6, double 6.

Whats possible and whats feasable are two very different things.

Ah shit, I didn't even think about that. After playing 7E and HoR, it's hard to beat my thinking into these old rules since it plays like a weird hybrid of both.

Still, this is a really impressive game. I wish some of the rules had carried over into modern 40k, particularly Hiding (although HoR does it better than RT) and Blast weapons never scattering more than half their max range (so a grenade can only scatter 4" max). That said, some of this is just great (in a funny way):
>Carapace Armor: 4+ Sv, 1" M penalty, "air-sealed"
>Powered Armor: 4+ Sv, no penalty, "air-sealed."
>Flak Armor: 6+ Sv, no penalty.
>Powered Armor with Flak Underarmor: 3+ Sv, 1/2" penalty, "air-sealed."
Just the idea that Carapace was essentially un-powered Power Armor, air tight and all, while Power Armor required a flak undershirt to actually be the power armor we know today (which somehow slowed you, when flak is described as "does not restrict movement at all").

If the sisters charge, they win hands dow- nevermind, just calculated that, they have a chance but I'd put it at a little less than 50/50.

If the Patriarch charges, it loses the bonus attack from psyk-out grenades, makes 4 attacks hitting on 3's, wounds on 2's with re-roll, allows no armor saves, total 2.59 dead sisters. Familiars attack, 0.88 dead sisters after saves and rends, total of 3.47 dead sisters.

Let's say that leaves the Superior and two others remaining, that's 7 attacks hitting on 4's with re-roll due to Bane of Psykers, Wounding on 5's, ignores armor, 1.75 Wounds. Patriarch cleans up in round 2.

They're characters but not independent characters, they can't join a unit to share the +1 attack bonus. You can, however, join other ICs to them to get the bonus, which now that I think about it, is probably what you meant in the first place.

Come on, Anon. I've got friends, mum said so.
>>
>>49898717
well, you don't seem like a bad guy, so I won't hold this list against you.

4+ to hit, 6 to pen, and 6 to explode for a Leman Russ using a lascannon. Crisis suits have 3+ armor, so most infantry weapons won't pen that, and 4 toughness means most infantry weapons will require multiple shots to wound it, and then they have 2 wounds each, and most of the weapons they fire rip and tear infantry apart. They're like that perfect hybrid unit that is difficult for infantry to fight, but easy for vehicles to stomp, so you don't know which one to use on them.

Also, 8 marker drones makes for fun times ahead when you shit on every save the enemy could possibly have to not be slaughtered by your shooty list. I remember playing a game where a guy brought two pathfinder squads, and I literally had to nuke them with Basilisks just to stand a chance beyond turn two.

And then the stealth cadre has already been mentioned.

Overall, your list is fucking fantastic, which is why it's considered so tryhard. When u play people, make sure that they understand the challenge they're facing. /tg/ usually frowns on people who bring these tryhard lists against shit like ork armies or some cancerous thing like that.

I've been meaning to read over 2E as well. I only got caught up in RT when a friend asked me to compare the modern HoR Arbites Webber to "the old one," and I went from reading about the Webber to how RT guns worked to how Shooting worked, then Movement, and so on. Said friend (and myself) is extremely open to alternative editions and I figured we might give some RT a try. I especially like all the wargear and special rule options that goes into creating each model.

2nd Edition still has a lot of that too, doesn't it? I think that Mutations sheet chaosfags tout here sometimes is from then.

more or less, though not as in-depth as RT

Problem with 2e is that although the system's a lot tighter, everything's split between all the different books and cards.

If you're just trying out RT, the battle at the farm is pretty much the ideal way to learn the system. Better than trying to dive headfirst in with custom units for your first games.

Patriarch + 5 purestrains = 10 SoS w/ Sister Superior all wielding executioner greatblades = 160 pts each

Sister's charge:
Patriarch 4 attacks
2.66 hits
2.59 wounds, no saves
Genestealers 15 attacks
10 hits
3.33 unsaved wounds (including Rends + failed saves)

Total 5.92 dead sisters (let's say 6)

Sister Superior and 3 others attack back
13 attacks
9.75 hits
4.87 Wounds
3.25 dead Genestealers after saves

Round 2
Patriarch wipes 2 more sisters
2 Genestealers, 6 attacks

Meh, Tau are overpowered second only to Eldar and formation cheesing SM.

General advice I've seen:
Never bring more than one Riptide
Less suits is best.
Accept that you're overpowered.
Everyone hates you because: you're playing Tau/Tau fluff is bad/The Tau don't fit in the setting as they are now.
The fluff is bull even for 40k standards.
The bigger suits really shouldn't be MCs and GMCs.
The non-suits are really cool models.
Your non-suit options are actually pretty good, but will always be outclassed by the suits because GW wants your money.
>>
I wish the tau were humans. They'd be so much better as a rebel human empire using all the same fluff.

Won first game with my Genestealer Cult last night.

The Return to the Shadows to return 1D6 models is silly powerful. Especially when I did it to a decimated unit of Aberrants who came back full strength.

Cult Ambush is a mixed bag because you're not always going to get that 6 (arrival charge)

My Neophytes all withdrew and came back to sit on objectives on the last turn.

Opponent got ... upset when I used "unquestioning loyalty" in a challenge, and tore his guy apart and took no damage.

Yeah speaking as a Tyranid player SitW should not be as powerful as the Psychic Abomination rule Sisters and Culexus have.

However, it should be a DAMN SIGHT better than the useless garbage it is right now. After those two units, Tyranids should be the most anti-psyker equipped faction in the game. SitW should bend psyker armies over and fuck them the same way Tau Overwatch bends over melee armies.
>>
>>49900171

I ran GSC tonight too, tested them out. It was brutal.

The new Genestealers are very powerful, getting 2+ cover saves the first turn and close infiltration distance is exactly what they need. I also rolled invisibility for my Patriarch, making his squad even more stupidly hard to kill.

Infiltrating cultists in Chimeras/Goliaths and unleashing flamers + staff of the subterran master is devastating.

I made a couple lucky night fighting saves to protect my cult's tank and one of their Chimeras, and blew up a Malcador with some random lucky shots from my Sentinels.

The new Genestealer Cult book is very strong, as well as fluffy. I enjoy it simply for getting to play a low-tech guerilla army with improvised weapons and sneaky tactics, but it can do more than just that. Genestealers backed up by heavy tanks and lascannon sentinels are no laughing matter. I haven't even tried the acolyte hybrids yet but just looking at the rules I can tell they'll be nasty.
>>
>>49900517
yeah it kind of occurred to me after writing that, even if you gave all three of those to jump infantry, assault marines would still be worse than bikers

Be careful posting about CSM on /tg/. This is the thing about orks.

They can never go "toe-to-toe" with their "equivalents"

Orks are bullys. you have to use something big and strong to pick on something weaker. Meganobz go after tanks and any infantry worse than it in fighting. Same for Nobz.

Anything with a 2+ or that is mildly competent in combat, shoot it to death with dakkajets, mek gunz or lootas.

Never try to put meganobz into terminators or nobz into vanguard vets
>>
>>49900733
They're a preview, not the full released rules. They don't release the full rules before the models are even available to buy in stores.
>>
>>49900726

Throw enough dakka and choppa at the problem. Init 2 is slow but it's still faster than the guy with the power fist and 2+ saves fail 1/6 times. 2+ saves are generally better dealt with in melee by overwhelming number of attacks rather than AP2 weapons unless you are one of a very rare number of units that get on init AP2.

According to the two tiny bits of fluff in their new rules, the Sisters are spread thin all across the Imperium. Realistically, it'd about as likely to encounter them as it is to encounter a given Company of a given Space Marine Chapter. Custodes, however, still probably aren't leaving the Palace unless Fenris 2: Redder, Meaner, Cyclopeaner Than Ever Before happens to have them present for some reason.

So do you guys think Khorne Daemonkin will basically be "squatted" by being combined into the World Eaters book when we get it in 8th edition? Since it seems like it would be kind of redundant to have both of them as a playable Faction, and it would be kind of silly to have Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children, Death Guard, and then.... Khorne Daemonkin.
>>
>>49901058
No real need for the WS/BS boost unless you're applying it to vanguard and sternguard vets too since they are all first company.

The only none HQ marines with boosted WS are guys like chapter champions, badass singular guys. The elite aspect comes from wargear and deepstrike deployment.
>>
>>49901061
>That's a kroot thing, I don't recall any Tau with decorative feathers.
Air cast have vestigial wings, which is weird because they're just 6000 years old evolution doesn't work like that.
>>
>>49901111
In the old rules Terminator armour granted +1 BS from all the on-board targeting systems and such. They could keep the weapon skill the same, and add that in, as part of a special rule that also gives them BS 2 Overwatch.
>>
>>49901129
It kinda does when they're aggressively caste-bred like dog breeds. It took less than 6k years for us to turn wolves into chihuahuas.
>>
>>49901097
To be fair after the scouring, the legion wars, every day dickinfg against any other legion, I'm surprised there are still legionaries left from the time of the heresy and warp stuff really fucks your geneseed.
>>
>>49901129

Yes. It can work like that if it is directed. Just see any domesticated animal or plant ever. It can be done in less than 50 years.
>>
>>49901155
>>49901147
I always forget the controlled breeding stuff and the don't cross castes or else part
>>
>>49901105
Yes, but those unaligned legions will probably rolled up into an AoD deal with formations, relics and rules kind of thing.
>>
>>49901147
Humans have been domesticating and breeding dogs for over 20k years, anon. Dogs (more exactly, their ancestor) diverged from wolves about 40k years ago as well.

Get with the times, gramps.
>>
>>49900591
Relentless should have been a default attribute for scourges. As it stands I've always felt they were totally worthless over reavers (or in 5th it was beast masters)
>>
>>49901206
And yet Chihuahuas are not even close to 6k years old, and dogs can still breed with wolves and produce fertile offspring, which means they are still the same species. There was and is no divergence as far as biologists are concerned.

>rules that were designed to move expensive kits.
That must be why gorkanauts are so good.

Oh wait...
>>
>>49901225
The fact that they sometimes fuck up doesn't mean there aren't instances of GW intentionally overpowering units to sell the kits.

Just look at how hard flying Tyranids were pushed in the latest nids Codex and subsequent releases.

Look at how undercosted all the big cash-expensive centerpiece models since the start of 7.5 have been.

They use to weren't they? If I remember correctly they were some of the few that had that rule.

Please tell us what was so great about 6th ed CSM? In what way was it significantly different from 7th?
>>
>>49901470
>>49901483
They were winning tournaments in the beginning of 6th, fuck off retards.
>>
>>49901421
They were crap in 4th as well.

There was a window during early sixth where Baledrakes were one of the most overpowered units in the game, and it sucked for everyone. Loyalists were getting utterly destroyed by Baledrakes Vector Striking transports to death and then flaming the occupants to death. Meanwhile, Codex: Chaos Space Marines was still the steaming pile of shit that it is now, so us CSM players that wanted to play actual CSM were SoL.

>>49900961
The mistake is that they still haven't decided what branch of Chaos Space Marines the codex is supposed to be representing. If it's ancient and powerul traitor astartes blessed by the gods, they need more elite statlines and wargear. If it's shit-tier renegades using duct-tape bolters and bargain-bin geneseed, they need cheaper shit and characters and rules to reflect that. Right now they're stuck in this weird limbo where their basic units are all inferior versions of loyalist marines and all their characters and elite units are, at best, roughly equivalent to their loyalist counterparts.
>>
>>49901434
There's no problem with the personal guards of the Emperor and the primarchs to be eternal warrior, this is just every day csmfags shitposting, there isn't a sudden influx of eternal warrior spam conspiracy against csm players.
>>
>>49901470
>>49901483
Baledrakes in early sixth were absurd. A trio of Baledrakes could easily make back double their point cost over the course of a game. The ability to Vector Strike (with multiple hits) and then Baleflamer the dudes that fell out of the wreck in a neat little cluster was brutal. They also got to start the game on the board, and the game had even fewer anti-air units.

pretty sure you can't infiltrate the transports.
>>

>>
>>49901223
A valid point but that doesn't mean selective breeding was not in effect.
>>
>>49901601
A unit with infiltrate confes it to it's dedicated transport if it's deployed in it at the beginning.
>>
>>49901585
They had several builds back in 4th and 5th and some of them did won tournaments or were in the top tier ranking, unlike marines that were just recently become a top tier army
>>
>>49901592
Custodes don't have true immortality either, dipshit.

>hurrdurr the gods won't reward their champions
The gods will grant any retard that clubs an Imperial Guard Sergeant to death their blessing. Hell, with the new detachment, they literally just give out blessings for free. It's like an all-you-can-ascend buffet.
>>
>>49901629
Sure, 4th, and 3.5 chaos marines were tip top, but they really started to crash during 5th
>>
>>49901607
GK Paladins have psykery, superior ranged weapon options, and transports. It's not much, but it's something. In the mirror match, the Paladins would probably do okay kiting the Custodes around for several turns.

>How long until the game is unplayable
It's already hitting critical mass. It would've been nice if GW could have at least made sure to give everybody top tier rules before the end, but at least we don't have much longer to wait until 8th edition.
>>
>>49901645
Old codex syndrome happens to everybody and should not be a reason to be a little bitch, is shit like the orks, Tyranids and dark eldars what shouldn't happen, whose updates only takes away more than what they received.

>>
>>49901681
I completely agree. I tried for a while to devise replacement D6 tables for each god in my homebrew, but it's just not worth it. From a fluff perspective it's silly, and it slows the game down too much having to generate even more shit mid-combat.

>>49901700
Fliers aren't even really an issue anymore. I think people just have PTSD from sixth editions Necron Airforces and Baledrake spam lists.

Formations/detachments need a pretty radical rebalancing, and Drop Pods could do with a nerf.
>>
>>49901716
Probably, but losing the WK is a big deal for them.
>>
>>49901692
footslogging takes less time than ever with the addition of running (for more than eldar) and all the special movement shit so many races get. 6x4 is not a big enough board for this game anymore. It gives people the strange idea that it's supposed to be a competitive game with how small and fast the fighting is compared to how it used to be. it should be 8x6 or 7x5 minimum

TBQH, I really like seeing Baneblade variants in non-Apoc. At risk of sounding nit-picky, I think them and them alone should remain. I know that opens up a terrible threshold "Well if Baneblades are allowed, why not Knights? If Knights are allowed, why not Wraith Knights?" but anyone whose actually fought a BB knows what I mean, I think. All the firepower and none of the durability of the other superheavies. It has the right balance.
