I would probably say Sanguinius could be female because of his aesthetic focus similar to Fulgrim and could end up being a sort of motherly matriarch like figure to humanity. Beyond that I suppose the main factor would be big guys and brutes are men, small guys and dex fighters are women.

Honestly though I can't imagine Malcador's plan going well. I mean these are people that end up not getting raised together and look nothing alike. Very similar appearance and joint upbringing are the primary reason humans instinctively aren't attracted to their siblings, without those the primarchs have no inherent reason not to be attracted to each other. Even assuming the primarchs are all sterile (emps didn't want them to replace humanity) relationships between primarchs seem like they could easily become too close in ways that emps can't combat without causing conflict.

Perhaps but why would a female be a berserker? Why is she stronger than her male siblings? Sereotypes mostly exist for a reason, specifically breaking those sterotypes doesn't inherently improve something and oftentimes makes it worse. Why would the primarch whose legion was from the beginning all about aggression and brotherhood a woman?

On the other hand Fulgrim works fine as a woman because the core ideas of his character don't require male pattern behavior. Men aren't known for being perfectionists as opposed to women and men aren't particularly driven towards aesthetics, in fact women are naturally more drawn towards aesthetics as they can more easily differentiate colours than men.

I mean you could make Angron a woman but what does that actually add beyond some stupid angry women joke? He didn't have any friends anyway so it isn't like making him a woman changes the dynamics of his relationships. Making Fulgrim a woman could greatly change the relationships between Fulgrim and Horus, Fulgrim and Ferrus, and possibly Fulgrim and Curze. The same is true for Sanguinius and pretty much everyone.

Duh. If the setting inherently included female space marines what's the issue? The Imperium as a whole has always been an egalitarian society, as long as you fight for the Imperium and pay your tithes your sex is of no importance. The only issue with female space marines is shoehorning them in when there is no prior existence.

I think the really interesting possibility is actual romantic relationships between astartes, particularly between close legions that often fight together.

I just want a bit more variety in the feminine roles. I like the idea of Fulgrim being a woman because it does suit him, but I also like examples like Russ and Vulkan being women to break up the mold from having all the men in the front line and women nuking/healing. In every forum I go to on 40k I haven't seen one person myself included having issues with females is any part of 40k besides the aforementioned Space Marines. And a few people who don't want them in the Imperial Guard because new military statistics is starting to show women aren't as good as men in combat roles. Since this is a Scifi game I don't have an issue with women in the guard. I'm just getting sick of seeing this thread in one shape or another every day

And you can get that but it doesn't mean that certain characters don't work better as male or female either due to aesthetics (female Manus is weird as hell), personality (female Angron is just arbitrary), or role (hard to imagine Lion being so bitchy about not being warmaster if he wasn't sort of the first born son due to the first legion).

I think Fulgrim would work fine as a female primarch, as would Sanguinius as a motherly figure for humanity, Alpharius and Omegon could be one male one female to justify having a mixed sex legion and thus being able to infiltrate legion with male or female primarchs, and Magnus could act as a psychic counter to the sisters of silence. Beyond that I can't think of any that inherently benefit from rule 34. I think that in order to execute this really well you would either have to make new primarchs from scratch or fundamentally change primarchs or the result is to just have a new sex tacked onto a primarch for no real reason.

Typically. But there's a lot of variation. Angron, for example, is a fucking beast compared to everybody, even other primarchs. A female primarch could easily be an outlier, and likely would be, so there's no reason to assume the fem version of Russ/Vulkan/whoever couldn't wipe the floor with the non-brute primarchs, regardless of sex.
