The year is 1631 and the Thirty Years War rages on. The Swedish army is on the march to Würzburg, which is the region’s most important political, religious, and thanks to the Marienburg Fortress, military center. Karlstadt is directly in the army’s path, and many fear that the army is keen on taking revenge for the sack of Magdeburg. The Swedish anger is further stoked by Swedish king Adolphus's hatred of witches, and belief that the Prince-Bishop and populace of Catholic heretics are abiding witchcraft. The army will reach its destination in 8 days.

Rumors say that 10 days ago, a group of sorceresses known as The Seven overthrew the ruling class of Karlstadt and laid down their own law: "There will be No More War", disarming the people and closing down all of the churches. The Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, secluding his own men behind the city walls, has promised a bounty of 1,000 SP for the head of each of The Seven, 10,000 SP if the heads of all seven are delivered.

System is 5e, supplements allowed by request. Setting is an autistic homebrew. 900-1000s-ish with plenty of anachronism. Think vaguely Roman collapse-ish, but more medieval: squabbling kings and dukes hiring mrecenaries, isolated villages in need of monster hunters, and plenty of ruins to plunder. Races aren't the same as standard 5e, basically varying shades of human and "elf" (basically slightly different humans, not LotR style).

Honestly a quick check in Wikipedia will help.
It was a war that literally lasted 30 years and caused the death of about 8 million people (a huge number for that time) living in the Holy Roman Empire (modern day Germany which is also known as the 1st Reich) died from plague and fighting.
The war itself started as a religious war between various Protastant rulers in the empire against the Emperor himself and his allies whom disliked the idea of having Protastants in the empire, as they represented the catholic side.
The war itself was quickly joined by all of Europe whom either wanted to fight for their faith or help/weaken the Habsburg dynasty (the emperor).
The entire war can be described as a mini world War since most of Europe participated. Most notably of which are Germans on divided sides including the emperor, Spain on the Habsburg side, Sweden on the anti Habsburg side.
