Thread for all things capeshit and /tg/-related. I'll kick off with some art; hoping for discussion as well.

Anyone besides me planning out a supers game?

For that matter, anyone planning or playing in a super*villain* game?
>>
I stopped playing superhero games a long time ago when I realized they were just an excuse for players to drag in shitty self-inserts and power-wank to all high heaven. There has not been a good superhero movie made in the past 30 years. And all the ones before that were shit, too. Superheroism is what ruined D&D and made it a pleb-tier game. Superheroism is a genre of plot holes, plot-armor, stupid costumes and unrealistic characters, both obviously in form but also in their personality and motivations. The black-and-white bullshit morality is only really good for children, whether physical or mental, and honestly I can't see anyone getting into superhero RPGs who also considers themselves a functioning adult. The stories are for kids, and even by that metric, most of them are dreck that is not worth even a passing glance.

I played Necessary Evil a bit. It was pure shit. "Dr Destruction" is the literal name of one of the NPCs along this heavily-railroaded piece of shit of a campaign setting. The aliens are decently interesting but they aren't relaly much besides grunts for the characters to kill and evil masterminds. It's generic superhero trash and completely fails to play up the villain angle, wasting so much potential that the game already didn't have. And the read-aloud dialogue was the cringiest thing I've ever seen in a public product.

Most supervillain games are edge-fests anyway.

Yeah, I've always thought supervillain games were kind of lacking, to say the least. Never heard of Necessary Evil, but from what you're saying, more of the same.

>>49835003
Keep in mind that superheroes vary wildly. Golden Age superheroes are only one subgenre. I've played in a very good Bronze Age styled game themed around "what your powers can't solve". It was cut short due to out-of-game events, but what we did have was pretty great and not like a stereotypical Superman story or something.

Guess I'll post here because my thread is probably deleted, some buddies and I are playing Wild Talents and I was curious if anyone had a good way to stat out copying powers? Right now we have a Venom like bruiser, pic related, and a body chemistry altering scientist. Problem is we can't find a good way to stat out the ability for him to add new powers kinda on the fly. We were thinking purchasing an amount of wiggle room for powers. Like 60 points spent for the ability to edit around 30 points of miracles as he views others do them.

thats a good way to do it. i forget how champions did it but the ability to copy abilities should cost so much then give you points to spend on abilities he's seeing.

it really depends on how he does it though too.

i remember a guy who could copy powers but had to be so close to them (maybe touching them) to borrow their powers and also only got them for a brief period. less than an hour.
>>
>>49838367
>>49838983
Yeah, just a pool of variable powerpoints that you edit on the fly is the way to go.

M&M does it at 7 to 5 ratio.

Man, I have got the perfect heroes game for you bro.

So like, most heroes wear body armor because bullets hurt, like a lot. Like they are super lethal. So you have mostly armored heroes. Then there are no self insert power wank characters because they roll their powers, and some personality traits randomly. Not a single hero actually acts like a hero, they always react with fear in danger and blaming others in failure. That's mostly the PCs fault though. Finally this mother fucker runs the tightest, most well fleshed out plots I've ever seen in my life.

I want to play a supers rpg that's relatively streamlined, rules-wise, but also solid enough that its rules actually cover most eventualities and don't either over-generalise or force improvisation. If the scale runs from FATAL on one end to Lasers & Feelings on the other, I want things to fall somewhere in the middle.

I want to play a game that only I (as GM) have to read the entire book - players can pick it up by reading their specific parts only and 'get' the core mechanics inside one session.

Suggestions?
>>
Do board games count? I've been playing the digital version of Sentinels of the Multiverse recently, a co-op superhero card game, and it's been pretty damn fun.
>>
>>49844585
I've played a bit of that. It was nice to have some actual tension even in the friggin /tutorial/.
Altho I haven't gotten the time to get more into it.

that I was boring as hell and didn't have the intelligence, imagination or sense of fun needed to participate in creative pursuits with human beings.

>they were just an excuse for players to
Tell me how boring and retarded I was and the truth hurt so now I try to act tough on the internet.

>There has not been a good superhero movie made in the past 30 years. And all the ones before that were shit, too.
And really I'm too stupid to realise that I could have just written there never has been a good superhero movie made since that is what those two sentences add up to but somehow little things like that are too hard for me to figure out.

>Superheroism is what ruined D&D and made it a pleb-tier game.
and I don't care if I was just writing about superheroes and now I'm conflating that with heroic fantasy because I pay as much attention to what I write as you should, that is, none at all because it's just me dragging in

no, this guy i know runs like... the most realistic and simultaneously lease realistic game i've ever seen. even with body armor bullets are probably gonna kill you. like every time. in a supers fight you might as well not even wear body armor.

Literally everything you said is wrong, because you are projecting, or just making shit up.

> And really I'm too stupid to realise that I could have just written there never has been a good superhero movie made since that is what those two sentences add up to but somehow little things like that are too hard for me to figure out.

Nah I was saying the ones in the past 30 years were shit, and so were the ones 30 years before that. I hate succinctness, and I also hate when people are succinct, or write things succinctly.

What scale of campaigns do you guys like more? Street level? Or maybe campaigns with a more "fate of the world" scope? Perhaps cosmic?

I like to hover around an Avengers/JLA fate or the world level fighting various super dictators and would be world conquerors for most games with the occasional Cosmic Adventure in between

Agree. Street level is best.
I dont mind running a game of the city wide scale but I love running street level
>>
>>49854614
Cinematic level. Above street level, but below actual flights and shit.

Arrow season 3 onward, for all the bad it is, is a perfect setting.

>>49854614
I like street level games that ramp up into city level (or global level or whatever you want to call it) for the climax.

Preferably with returning to the street level in the end where everything is starting to recover and change as the status quo was shaken up during the climax.

It isn't really inventive or even that interesting of an idea but I honestly just don't get tired of it, I love how honest the humble beginnings feel and how spending most of the time just picking up street trash makes it seem so much more serious when the whole city is on the line.

That's generally the tiers of power. The narrowest gap is street and city, because it takes very little to transition from a street hero to a city hero.
