You pretty much moves into High Wilderness though special knock on the Aver Horizont and go talk with White. Your character is permamenty stuck in to space, though. You can't play anymore.

Yep.

Not gonna lie though-I think it peaked around The Spook's Mistake. I liked it better when it was more, well, about horror and less Harry Potter: Medieval Melee Edition

Also for a being who's supposed to be the ultimate being of the Dark, the Fiend's a fucking chump compared to the Bane, Golgoth and Ordeen

The Old Kingdom by Garth Nix.

Goddamn if it isn't a neat magic system and the bits of the Kingdom we hear about sound nifty. Unfortunately we barely get to see any of it because the characters's we're following are outsiders and kind of in a hurry to move elsewhere as the world needs saving.
I basically just want a Nix-approved setting bible, don't want any more stories. Just tell me about the capital and the giant chain, the Wall and it's guards, the coastal islands.
>>
>>49811255
I haven't seen the Salt ending ones. I'd love to see that though.
>>
Well for what it's worth. Zubmariner adds in a bunch of new content all of which helps flesh out even more of the setting. The immortality ambition in particular seems to delve into Stone/The Mountain of Light and the Elder Continent Lore.

Also I love all of the little nods to the latest FL three part story in Zubmariner. Captain Harris is a badass.

My n-word. I remember reading them when I was younger, can't remember much about the setting but I remember it being a bit like the UK, but Scotland is full on medieval with magic, and Hadrian's Wall is a magical barrier stopping all that shit coming to england. At least, that's how I rationalised it. Need to re-read them, I know that the fourth one came out fairly recently and it's pretty good.

Posting my favourite.

Pretty neat though.

Dark Tower was definitely a setting I liked. I didn't give that much of a fuck about literally everything else (though SK is a great writer, so it wasn't like it was hard to read) but I kept devouring the books solely for more information on the setting and what had brought about the Fall. >>
>>49813806
First age>second age>third age (although i havent read beyond immortals)
The idustrial setting seems a bit similar to steampunk in some regards while the second age has this great feeling of the apocalypse and that the world is falling apart and changing
>>
>>49813193
Honestly, who gives a fuck? Devs can make whatever the fuck they want, and the market can decide whether it's worth buying or not. And it's actually a fun game that at least explains why gender, trans, and whatever, are a much smaller deal than they would have been in actual 1890s London. The Bazaar feeding on love and not being picky is a great start, just for one.
>>
>>49813889
The setting is really unique and changes in a lot of interesting ways over the course of the series, as well as having fairly inventive races and societies. The illustrations are also beautiful which is a big plus.
The Stone Pilot is, and always will be, best girl.
>>
>>49813993

Note that he's saying it's an SJW setting because it randomises the pronouns for some situations and especially for random NPCs.

Presumably he wants a less SJW setting based on 18th century steam sailing where the Hearts challenge for getting terror too high involves you trying to organise a big gay orgy on the poop deck.

Because rather than a subtle touch that you can easily overlook, he wants more historically accurate and gratuitous depictions of "buggery and the lash"
>>
This baby right here, The First Law trilogy.Revived the fantasy genre imo.
>>
>>49810391

Fuck yea. Love that game. Comfy as hell for me on a dark cold day with somethin hot to drink and a whole lot of time to kill. Would love to run a home brew campaign for it one day.

Once ran a Narnia homebrew I made back in High School when the first two movies were out and Narnia was suddenly super popular. Picked up the book series, read them, and quickly ad-hocked something using a combination of Savage Worlds and 3.5. In hindsight it sucked but the players had fun.
>>

agree completely, it was better as a monster of the week horror series than a fantasy adventure with horror elements, I still think it could be cool to have an rpg based on it though

To be perfectly fair to Failbetter when they started they didn't really have the resources to make a proper RPG. The system they use for Fallen London was a limitation they tried to work with. And it's not exactly terrible. The game is supposed to be a slow burn. Because otherwise players could just blow through the content in days or weeks.
If you want something more traditional then stick to Sunless Sea/Zubmariner or wait for Sunless Skies to come out.

Monastyr.
It's from Polish game and if you cut out all the edgy shit out of it (which isn't that hard, fortunately), you end up with absolutely epic noble dark baroque world.

Sine Requie
Gameplay-wise and fun-wise, it's utter shit. Setting-wise it's a pure brilliance. Probably my second favourite post apo setting....

Reign of Steel
... is my fav post apo setting. Not exactly "less known", since it's GURPS, but anyway. It's pretty much Terminator done right. Machines won. And it happend 20 years ago. And they won without pulling some all-out-war, but by simply slowly strangling humanity and then wiping out what was left of it when the ruse was exposed.

What I like most about that game, other than the fact that everything is so unwholesome, is the slow progress my captains make from normal dudes to actual ancient seafaring monsters.

Like, I just fucking SHOW UP in some port and offer the rulers fistfull after fistfull of pearls to get them to ignore my activities.

I have see through skin and unbreakable bones, and my heart is hardened in a literal sense.

I regularly consume manflesh, unleash terrible hunger upon unsuspecting populaces, and sell crates of souls to demons.

I feel like I am progressing into some kind of fucking davey jones.

4) Upgrade your lodgings and write a will

Also, if you really, truly suck and would rather enjoy the story than scrabble for supplies, the entire game is basically stored in unencrypted, static 4 byte addresses, making it ludicrously easy to hack with Cheat Engine
>>
>>49817781
I'm wanting to start it up again too.
Last I'd played I'd been able to get a few of the starting stat boosting tomes from various quests, and those definitely help you out in all areas.

Getting a basic upgrade to the starting gun lets you kill a lot of the weaker enemies without much damage, and if you learn to cling to the butts of pirates without a rear gun you can kill them no matter what.

always, always, get a family in port. Scion is absolutely essential if you're playing with permadeath as it lets you keep 100% of your money to move to a new generation if you want to reroll the map and/or restart failed quests. You also get the ability to do the salt lions all over again, which is a nice bundle of cash.

For the uninitiated, the generally accepted lore for this clusterfuck of a setting is basically, Nanotrasen, The currently dominant megacorp of the setting leaped forwards due to discovering plasma/phoron a strange material with all sorts of crazy ass reactions that doubles as a superfuel.

The station the game takes place on is run by players and is pretty universally considered a shithole of psychotic people with hairtrigger tempers and they're usually ready to kill each other if they are provided a reason.
Antagonists include Syndicate operatives who work for an organization that isn't much better than NT, Syndicate nuclear operatives who are literally willing to suicide bomb the station because they hate NT so much.

Changelings(Aka the Thing) which absorb peoples DNA and have all sorts of abilities to prevent people from escaping them.

Space Wizards(may or may not use actual magic depending on who you ask, it might just be tech made to look like magic.)

Rogue AIs, like we're talking HAL 9000, if HAL was either an impotent 5 year old or a technomagic god depending on the AI.

Xenomorphs

Vampires and Werewolves

Crazed Cultists whose dark god or clockwork god actually exists and can be summoned from beyond with a proper ritual and enough brainwashed converts working together

And blobs. Giant fucking macrocellular organisms that just want to eat the station and kill the crew who try to stop them.

Unplayable after your first couple characters because it has no fast-forwards and the developer intentionally made you travel slower than a fucking rowboat, then made any "upgrades" past that also not worth it because they burn resources faster than the fires of hell, and the optional speed boost has a constant chance of literally blowing up your ship.

Anyway, if anyone does have the Grieve/Hate ending capped I'd appreciate a look.

I don't even know what goes on in them. Seems to be widely speculate Hate involves somehow nuking the Bazaar with Judgement-y death but what on earth is Grieve about?

Huh. And here I was beating myself over getting my captains killed repeatedly.

>tfw my first captain died from trying to sail into the Dawn Machine's asshole and then bumping into it too much

my advice is upgrade to a good ship with a strong forward as soon as soon as it's economically safe. deck/forward wombo combo will fuck up most monsters and ships creating a pretty steady supply of supplies/ivory/other random bits to sell or use. once you figure out how to fight effectively you could even take down some of the boss enemies.

20 fuel will get you anywhere on the map + a bit more, assuming you don't mind taking on a bit of fear and know where to buy more cheap fuel while at zee.

10 supplies will last forever. seriously. you come across so many opportunities to resupply while at different islands.

after you get a good feel for what waits at each port you can start taking advantage of opportunities and thats where the profit lays.

Generally fuel is more important than supplies. Except for repairs.

Some of the basic character quests get you engines that actually save fuel for faster speeds.

Progression is still a bitch, but there are things that can be done.

No need to reskin it, Sunless Skies is looking to be incredibly rogue trader from what's visible.

You can slip right past the dawn machine, it's actually not that hard, just go around the side. The red crystals sticking from shore don't collide. You'll lose all your fuel, supplies, and probably get maxed out at 100 terror though.

>Some of the basic character quests get you engines that actually save fuel for faster speeds.
""Faster"" speeds. Uh huh. Yes I've gotten significantly better engines. No they're not really that much faster, and they cost so fucking much to operate you're trapped doing trade routes. Good fucking luck if you haven't finished exploring yet.
The "basic" quests you're talking about take fucking forever as well.

The game fundamentally needs a 2x and 3x speedup button. It's not "progress is a bitch" its "the developer is a fucking Tree Ent".

The core problem that makes the game unplayable is simply that if you die 6+ hours in, you've got to replay the entire fucking 6+ hours again... and the core of the game is just the same story bits you'll just repeat over. Imagine if every time you died in The Witcher 3 you had to start all over AND you could only walk everywhere.

On top of that, when you die, if you do choose to keep the marked map to save yourself 3+ hours of literally nothing, it ruins the only real source of XP in the game (marking the map).

No thanks. It's a fuckload of nothing for hours on end, and the game almost has no soundtrack to speak of.

If I ever get round to running an AW game, I'd probably base it on this setting, the tech level just feels right for a post-apocalypse

not him but I'll do it
>the world ended
>someone decided that making cities mobile was a good idea
>now towns and cities roll around on treads and attack each other
>when one is destroyed the winner takes the raw materials from it to use
>there's also the anti-traction league and their stationary settlements
>there's also some seafaring cities which raid along the coasts and engage in naval city-fights
>people also travel between cities by airship and there are permanently floating docks which they use as pit-stops

This sounds like the coolest fucking stupid thing ever

it gets better, in the first book London gets a death ray from the pre-apocalypse which it can use to reduce other cities to a burning wreck, it uses this to travel around Europe (referred to mainly as 'the great hunting ground'), which it had previously been too weak to survive in.

>>49840525
Not either of them, but its probably the best YA fiction i've read in my adult life, just the right level of ridiculousness to be enjoyable without going full retard. Doing it as a traditional RPG would be difficult, itd make a good computer game though
>>
>>49840555
>itd make a good computer game though
Shit yeah it would.

I imagine something along the lines of FTL, but with a lot more complexity and depth.

>>49840610
I was thinking more along the lines of a game like Sunless Sea but made by a Paradox that had its DLC policy castrated

Fuck it, lets cross the streams and go deeper.

Dwarf-Fortress inspired city simulator that actually travels on a world map in real time.
